At that time a service call was $5.00, a thermostat cost $15.95, a brand new dual Wall furnace was $39.95, We were located at 5057 Long Beach Blvd. and our phone number was 20-4985. 62 years later American Heating lives on and not much has changed. We are 4 blocks from the original location, our phone number is 424-4985, and a service call has only increased less than $1 dollar a year! Long Beach Heating and Air Conditioning is without a doubt the most reliable HVAC company in Long Beach. We remain locally owned & operated by Tom White, who started working for the company in 1978. Our Motto is "Big enough to take care of your needs, but small enough to give you personalized service" Today's technology and the reliability of years past.
Water had started dripping out of my heatpump so I needed someone to check it out. Mark, the technician they sent, was extremely polite and helpful and identified several potential causes, adding insulation to a sweating water line to eliminate one of them. The drain pan will need to be replaced and I'll be calling them back when I decide to get the repair done.

We called on a hot day. At first they said they were backed up for a week but, when we asked them to squeeze us in they did so and got out to us the next day. Technician probably spent an hour checking everything to make sure he'd found the actual cause of the problem and then told us he'd hold off a week on billing to make sure that we had time to be certain the problem wouldn't recur. Also took time to show me how to reset the system again if needed. Both receptionist and technician were polite and appropriate.

It was the worse situation! I want everyone to know that Tom White the owner and president of Long Beach Heating and Air did not even have the decency to call us to apologize, NOTHING! It would have made a world of difference, but NOTHING. I called today only to argue with Sarah AGAIN. I told her that she has the worse customer service skills I have ever dealt with. First arguing with her yesterday, than today, for her to constantly talk over me and still be sarcastic and rude. I had to prepare my sick 16 year old cat for this event, worried enough from that, then to wait from 8:30 am, when security called to let me know the crane was here, waited and waited. Called Long Beach Heating & Air at 9:30am only to get a busy signal over and over again. I called at 10:30 am and finally got through, only for Sarah to tell me I was wrong about the date, after I told her the crane was here. Sarah said she only knew what Tom had written on his desk calendar and that the crew all knew that the install was to be on Friday 6/21st. I told Sarah I wish I WAS TOLD THAT. When Sarah called back after 3:00 PM, to let me know that I was correct in the date, by that time I was very upset, it was a slight "sorry", but can we do it tomorrow? As if!! What would any other customer expect? That it is not a big deal, oh well, move on.... to another company! Most importantly I had faith, trust and hope that Tom White's company would be a good pick! I am completely wrong. Still NOT ONE WORD from TOM WHITE, because as Sarah said he has over TEN BIDS a day for FUTURE customers, but could care less once he has them. Sarah said she has never had this happen with any customers, which I find hard to believe. She actually LIED and said she profusely apologized to me and has Bob who was with her to prove it. Yet, I NEVER heard her "profound" statement of apology, a slighted "sorry". Regardless, if Long Beach Heating and Air treated a customer in the same city, same neighborhood as we are, the ratings are WAY OVER RATED!!
Description of Work: NOTHING! The crane showed up, waited until he was told they CANCELLED! He told the security guard that he was charging Long Beach Heating and A/C for the time, cost of crane, etc. Long Beach Heating NEVER CALLED ME TO CANCEL! The WORSE customer service with Sarah who continued to argue with me about the date, only to have her call back at 3PM to say she was wrong!! NO APOLOGY, ONLY SARCASM and COMPLETELY RUDE!!! 03/10/14, As an over due requested update. Never received any apologies for RUDE Sarah, received an email from Owner Tm White asking to change my review. We did get the heating and a/c at cost, that is great. When they did not show up, that's when I signed up for ANGIE'S LIST and found Long Beach Heating and Air was the first one on the list. Tom is great at representing his company, still the morning of service, when NO ONE showed up, calling them until the finally answered, and having to deal with Sarah.... it's a nightmare all over. Sarah had NO contact with Tom White until that afternoon. I had to call, wait, call, wait, call, wait until after 3PM that day of installation. All this review would be totally avoided, if I received an apology. Instead all I got was Sarah, saying she was sorry if I was mad... Still waiting Tom White for any excuse, apology for Sarah's rude customer service. P.S. One major concern, as I stated to Tom White, repeatedly, was my ailing cat. He died July 3rd, 2013.

Service was fine. I asked service tech if he needed Angie's list coupon. He said no. When I got the bill the service call was listed at $80. I called to get corrected and the person in the office indicated that there was a difference between a service call and what I had done (wasn't clear what it was) THEY ARE USING BAIT AND SWITCH. She called back to try and explain but still no logical explanaition. When others on Angie's list are offering A/C check and tune up for $39, why they think that they can do this is beyond me. Another A/C contractor you can't trust.
Description of Work: I called for the $60 Angie's list service special. They accepted. Unit only needed to be checked as it was running fine. Was a bit low on refrigerant so they added one pound.

Our AC unit was installed in 2005. Since the 1st year, it would routinely stop working after it had been unused for a while. Almost every year since then I've had to have it serviced in order for it to work. To date, no one who serviced it could identify root cause of the problem. Some had a laundry list of needed repairs to `hopefully` address the problem but somehow inadvertently started the system... usually not knowing why it wouldn't start in the first place, at which point the costly reapirs were no longer necessary. The serviceman from LB Heating & A/C, Mike D. came 1.5 hrs early (called first), listened to our story, checked the control panel, then the AC unit on the roof. He was able to quickly show me how/why the other repair men were able to start the system, explained why we were seeing this problem every year and then tested the proposed solution and explained what he was doing and why. The fix worked and this was the first time in all these years a service specialist was able to difinitively identify root cause, implement a fix and allow me to feel confident that I will not have to call him back next year for the same issue. Great job! I am very saitisfied with the experience, work, professionalism and expertise. Highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: The end fix was to change the capacitor to one that was tailored to the 50amp requirement and added a hard-start kit to that.

Our air conditioner decided to go on strike on one of the hottest days of the year so far. After sweating out a rather unpleasant night, I called in the morning and they were able to schedule a call for that day. It was a late afternoon window, and the technician, Mario, arrived on the early end of the scheduled time. He promptly diagnosed the problem and got right to work correcting it. He had everything he needed to complete the work and replace the thermostat unit. He clearly explained to me the differences and relative advantages and disadvantages of my choices, and was prompt, neat and efficient in completing the job. Everything is now back up and running, and we've been enjoying the lovely, cool air since.

I'm now a believer in Angie's List! Great company. Honest and professional. Went for a second opinion with LB heating after getting a bad diagnosis from ARS Corona. They immediately said that I had a bad heat exchanger and needed a new furnace. Upon further review, LB Heating said the furnace is fine and "if" I needed a new exchanger it would have been covered under warranty. $60 well spent.

He runs a good company. What I like is I help sponsor a nonprofit and when they air conditioning was a problem there, he sent somebody out and helped us out with no bill. He is a community member and he is just a good guy. We have used him 3 to 4 times with different problems with the forced air heating and he was terrific. What he charged me was nothing out of the ordinary. He was on point. He was no higher or no lesser. He is very professional. He shows up. He has good people working for him. He takes his business seriously and has sense of pride.

They were very professional from the first phone call. I had requested a smaller wall unit AC and they came out to give me an estimate. After reveiwing all the pluses and minuses I ask for an estimate on central air. They were totally honest with me from telling me they would not sell the wall unit because I wouldn't be happy with the results do to construction of my home - then I asked them to install central air and they contacted me back to tell me they would not put the AC in with my size furnace because it would need to run continuously. Thanked me for working with them and wished me luck. I decided to have them install the correct size furnace and AC to work efficiently even though the cost was quite a bit higher.They came on time and explained step by step to me during installation - cleaned up after themselves and we love the new system.. Have bragged about them to all my friends and would definitely work with them again.

Tom, the owner, came over to give us an estimate. He was very knowledgeable and encouraged us to get multiple quotes as well as having the work inspected no matter who we chose. Once we let Tom know that we wanted to use Long Beach Heating and Air Conditioning, he was very flexible in scheduling when the work would be performed enabling us to take a minimum amount of time off work. He scheduled the start of the job on a Friday, and was even able to have the workers come for a half of a day on Saturday to ensure everything was finished on Monday. The work went quickly and smoothly. The only hiccup was when one of the workers who was only there on the final day tried to convince my wife that we really didn't want to have an inspection. The other workers were courteous and pleasant to deal with. The inspection went well and the heater was been working great this winter.
Description of Work: Installed a new forced air heating system including a two-stage heater, new duct work and registers, and a new thermostat in ~1300 sq ft 2 bedroom home.

The entire service experience was excellent, professional at every step and fairly priced. During my initial call, I indicated that this was a self-install and said that I needed start-up service. I was pleasantly surprised that I did not get any patronizing remarks from the scheduler about how they could not be held responsible for self-installs, later problems, etc. On the contrary, she stated that they had a service technician who was very familiar with Mitsubishi split systems and that she would send him to do my work. I was quite impressed with the guy who was sent to do the work. He definitely know his stuff--asked all the right questions about how I had installed the system, was careful and thorough, and did not cut corners. There was none of this, "Oh, you don't have to do that. They say that in the manual, but it doesn't really matter." Long Beach Heating & Air Conditioning gets straight A's in my book. I will definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Start-up of new Mitsubishi split AC system (rooftop compressor and 4 room cooling units). Checked system for leaks, vacuum pumped lines, released refrigerant into system, and performed operational check. I called them right before July 4th and because of the holiday it took them a few days to come out. After looking at my old AC unit they instructed me that blower motor was burnt out and i shoud just replace the entire unit because it was so old they would not be able to guarantee the unit would work after the fix. It took them several days and several calls to get some quotes for new units (they said i'd have it the next day). After choosing the new unit, and trying to get them to come out to do the work, they wouldn't return my calls or emails. On the rare occasion I was able get a hold of someone, she just told me lots of excuses on how busy they were. But it was the same excuses over and over. And i was never able to get them over to get the work done. After over 4 weeks of calls (with no real answers-only excuses), during one of the hotest summers i can remember, and a wife who was 6 months pregnant at the time, I told them to forget it. I couldn't take their excuses anymore, and my wife and i were beyond stressed out by these people. Right after i CANCELED business with LB Heating/AC... I called DIFFERENT local AC guy... he came out early the next morning (friday), removed the motor, fixed it over the weekend and had it installed Monday morning. He also told me my ac unit was old but looked in good shape. He was able to clean the coils even though LB Heating/AC said it was impossible without having a crane come and lift the unit up.
Description of Work: I canceled all requests for services from them. It tooks days for them to return phone call and emails. After 4 weeks of terrible communication, and endless excuses i took my business elswhere (and am so happy i did).

We had called Long Beach Heating and Air to come and inspect our heating system. The first visit Kristopher was able to inform us that due to the age of the heating unit it was not going to be reliable but he couldn't see any major issues with it. We called them out a second time a few days later and they were able to come in the morning when we had had the heater running for a time. This time Kristopher was able to see how the fan was not working properly and let us know that there was no safe way to fix the problem since the entire unit just needed to be replaced. This company is very prompt not only in their scheduling but also in their follow up. We received an invoice via email later that day and it was detailed enough to send to our landlord without having to explain anything any further. We are very happy with the service we received today.

This was a tough one. It actually ended up being a rodent problem without any clearcut indication that if was. Chris persisted and kept at until he solved it. Chris was courteous and professional. They provided us with prompt service when others couldn't. We will definitely use them again.

We are more than satisfied with the installation job that Long Beach Heating and Air recently did at our house. Not only did the owner of the company, Tom, come out to do the estimate, he spent nearly an hour at our house checking around and pointing out potential problems they might encounter during installation in our 1940s house. He spent the time to sit down with us and made sure he was able to provide us with the most thorough estimate he could. He also encouraged us to get other estimates, rather than some companies who just push their company. We received our estimate within days and were happy with the pricing. Another company quoted us a slightly lower price, but the worker spent a total of 10 minutes at our house and never once thought of the issues Tom pointed out to us. When the work began, Jim, Rick and Butch were very friendly and respectful of our house. They made sure to clean up at the end of the day so we wouldn’t have a mess to deal with each day. The work was finished in a timely manner, despite the workers running into a couple problems with our house and lack of attic space. Bottom line, we would highly recommend Long Beach Heating and Air to anyone who is looking for an honest, thorough, and friendly company.

They did a great job and they even went the extra mile in several different ways. We appreciated the fact that Tom, the owner, called and gave us some tips on what to watch out for with our new central air installation before we have a new roof put on the house, which we will be doing in the near future. Tom asked if we had any exterior paint leftover so they could paint the metal flashing that covers the lines that run down the outside wall of the house. When we said that we did not, he let us know that they would take a chip of paint and get some paint to match and they would paint this for us. It's these kinds of extra considerations that make this a really great company and one that we are very happy with.
Description of Work: They took down an old A/C unit from the roof and rerouted the cooling lines and electrical and installed a new cooling coil and a new condensor unit that is now in the backyard by the corner of the house. They also installed new registers in all of the rooms so that the air flow can now be adjusted to flow in all directions.

The installation went above and beyond. The installers were always on-time and incredibly clean. They never left a mess. The install started on a Tuesday and finished on Friday. The new system started with the heater install, then went on to the condensor. I had agreed to start the install on Monday, but like the forgetful guy I am I wasn't home and left them hanging for a day. This wasn't an issue at all and they finished the installation ahead of schedule. Very clean installation, very professional. I would highly recommend their services for a new installation. This was a major undertaking and was completed by two installers in about 4 days.
Description of Work: This was a completely new A/C and heater installation, this included the ducting, vents, condensor, heater and all drain/refridgerant lines. Our house was built in 1950 and there was no existing system, so this was a new install. The contractor also included a service to blow in new insulation after the system was installed. 4 ton, 13 SEER Bryant Condensor was installed outside and the heater was installed in the attic. A new electrical disconnect was also installed from the main panel to the Condensor.
