The company (also known as SCHIC), called my elderly parents (85 & 90 years old) and pitched them their energy conservation services. They presented themselves as being associated with the CA Energy Commission. My parents signed a contract with them, but within a day, realized that they made a mistake. According to California law, they have 3 days to rescind a contract by notifying the contractor in writing. The day after they signed the contract, my parents mailed a letter via USPS priority mail to SCHIC and sent a fax notifying the contractor that they wished to cancel the contract. The company stated that they did not receive either the fax or the email and that they intend to go forward with the work as originally agreed to. We have followed up with the company, making numerous phone calls, but they have still refuted that the contract was canceled and have not refunded the deposit.
