We were very pleased with So Cal Builders. Avi is as professional and punctual as they come. From the start, we received detailed plans of his ideas, all the necessary contracts and agreements, and he was very receptive to our recommendations and numerous design changes as we requested a few more items be added to the contract (mostly resulting from our own wishlists). He was responsive to our calls, regularly communicated via email, and keep us posted on the project's schedule. Avi was also mindful and proactive of the many irritating things some contractors are known for: trash, rude employees, parking, noise, and generally being evasive of one's life during the construction. Our backyard/patio went from a small-sized patch of grass next to a small-sized patch of cement to a large, open medium-sized patio. He installed high-quality paver stones, installed a custom gas fire pit with a custom concrete bench for 7 people surrounding it, built a new BBQ/bar counter with a built-in BBQ and cabinets, and circled the perimeter with a custom planter box border to keep greenery and shrubs for privacy. In addition, he installed various electrical outlets for entertaining conveniences. We were very please with the work, with the price, and most of all the professionalism which is rare. There were never any concerns regarding absences, shabby payments, or delays to the project. Those alone are worth the price!!! A++

We searched around and had multiple quotes from contractors on our project. We were needing to demo an exterior bay window and door to install a 12'x8' panoramic door wall to create an indoor outdoor living space. Some contractors would do the install but not the design, others would do the design and install but no permits. Avi did all of it from start to finish and came in towards the lower high end of our quotes. But without a doubt we got what we paid for. Construction steps were communicated in a timely manner, and his crew was on time every day. They were respectful of our neighbors, and took great care to keep the fallout of demolition from making a mess in the rest of our home. Once the door wall was installed they did the finishing drywall, paint, and carpentry. The door looks likes it always been there and that was great. Then they finished the exterior edges around the new opening and blended to the original stucco from 1952. We couldn't be happier with the result. Avi does not cut corners and is worth the money. Would highly recommend!!

Went fine, price was outside my budget, so I did not do the project.

Avi ?and his crew were very professional and did ?an did ?an excellent job as it ?was outlined in the contract. However I was just assisting my friend and was not completely engaged 100% of the time which caused some additions a changes to the contract that increased the total cost significantly. I also suggested to Avi that in in the future he should arrange a "Project Meeting" with the customer to ensure that both him and the customer is on the same page as to exactly what items and ?material should be provided buy the customer and when it ?will ?be needed. Avi should also visit the job site more often to be sure the project is going as planned and to convey this to the customer and discus the project going forward. I would highly recommend So Cal Builders & Design Inc for the Quality of their work and their price.

We've used Avi and his crews before, they put stamped cement in our backyard, they also remodeled our kitchen. This time we wanted to put stamped cement on the side of our house. The crew came in and did a wonderful job, cleaned up everything and did exactly what I wanted, which was to slope the cement so that water wouldn't build up at my porch. Great job, it's amazing watching them do the cement and stamping it, its beautiful. The next project we have lined up will be to replace our roof, and we'll call Avi and his crew to take care of our roofing needs. Thanks Avi.

Bought design Angies list deal. It ended up being just a quote most contractors will give for free. He felt I wasnt far enough along with my plans to make a design relevant. For me I bought the service because I needed help getting to the next step. He seemed knowledgeable and his price was probably middle of the road from rough estimates Id had in the past. He readily offered a refund since clearly I had expected something else. They sent me a check immediately. Was my first time with one of these deals so I feel like the misunderstanding was on my side and shouldn't reflect poorly on service provider. I'm guessing that these 50$ deals offered by various service providers are more enticements to find new clients than an actual design service. I would rather not give a score, but this site requires it so I'm giving a B instead of an A based on the deal not the providers work. My experience should not deter anyone from using this provider if they already have a good idea of what they want done, also clearly refunding the fee was not an issue so this is a no risk proposition for interested homeowner. Note: date is not accurate, but Angie's list kept reminding me to review, also for some reason comment field doesn't allow apostrophes - so excuse the grammar.

Avi saw our patio problem, gave us an efficient solution to our problem.? Included ideas for planter looks that would fit our space.? Included plans for new stairs - wider and all cement.

We took advantage of a promotion through Angie's list. For approximately $50 dollars So. Cal Buiders and Design was to consult and provide a design with 3 D rendering of our backyard's hardcape. The deal seemed too good to be true so we were skeptical. But SoCal Builders and Design delivered with superior service! From the initial contact to the delivery of the design, we were impressed with Avi's professionalism and knowledge. The design he provided was very creative in his use of existing structures (which were in excellent condition) with new elements to produce a cohesive, beautiful yet functional backyard that gave our house an updated look. The 3D renderings he provided allowed us to visualize the backyard from multiple views/angles. Through it all, there were NO high pressure sales tactics when we told him that we were not yet ready to build because of an existing project Avi politely told us to consider his company when we were ready to tackle the backyard project and even gave us advise and pointers on the existing construction project we were undertaking. We were so pleased with So Cal Builders and Design and Avi that we will definitely recommend them to friends and consider them for future projects.

Avi was very professional and has remained so throughout the process offering prompt responses and support to our needs. The construction crew has been courteous while in our house and asked questions when unsure how we wanted details finished. Construction was able to begin immediately after contract was sign and there was no wait time. They did the design and permitting for the removal of a wall in the kitchen which went smoothly. Part of construction also entailed removing the old floor and laying down a new subfloor. This included moving a gas line. They provided many options for cabinets and counters. The quality and look of the final installation is very nice. We supplied all our own appliances, tile, sink and faucet. There were multiple times when we did not have all the right parts needed to install appliances or tile and had to do last minute runs. Luckily we were available to do so, but that may not always be the case so I would make sure you get a clear outline of what is needed on what day in advance. I'm very happy with how the kitchen came out and the service level provided. I would use So Cal Builders for future projects and recommend to others for their needs.

This provider came out to my house, looked quickly into my back yard and told me that he could not do anything in the backyard because it was too big. We then went to the front yard and he told me that he could only do 500 square feet. The Big Deal that I purchased through Angie's List specifically stated that there was "No limit on size of yard or project." The deal also stated, * A discussion of the types of hardscape options available including firepits, outdoor kitchens, decks, patios, stamped concrete, pavers, patio covers * Viewing of available hardscape samples * A 3-D hardscape design. This will include hardscape materials recommendations for your project $100 credit if customer decides to use service provider for project. Although he had me look at stones with the driveway, I only receive three photos of work to be done and did not receive the 3-D design. This provider did not deliver what the deal stated and what he promised, so I had no work done.

It was so much more basic than I thought I was going to receive. Very little detail in the drawings.

Everything has been done on time, as promised and very professionally. We are not quite complete but should be within the week.

Mr. Abid was very clear and captured our vision of what the patio will look like.

Avi was pleasant, cordial and knowledgeable. He gave us design and recommendations for our front yard.

Avi showed up on time and walked thru the project. He fully walked the job site which consists of a rather steep and slippery hillside on the side of the house. He asked a lot of questions regarding what we wanted and took photographs. He showed us examples from his portfolio and gave us rough estimates based on different options of building materials. Avi returned 2 weeks later (I had been away for a week) with detailed renderings and final pricing. The pricing was dependent on the materials used (cement blocks + stucco versus split face blocks), whether or not we wanted a custom wrought iron gate and the overall timing. He was willing to give us a nice cut in price if we would schedule the project at the same time that he had another project in the area. The final pricing came in below the rough estimate and included full details (4 new retaining walls 3' high x 85' long with re bar and cement for the foundation etc.) Unfortunately, earlier that day we received some bad news that meant that we now needed the funds we had put aside for this project. Had this not occurred, we would definitely have hired them for this project. Should our financial situation improve, we will contact So Cal Builders & Design Inc. We found Avi to be pleasant and knowledgeable and would love to do business with him in the future.

It was a job done by what I consider to be a true professional; that is, he removed only one paver and carefully so as not to damage it, then when no reason for its lifting could be found below it, he then replaced it, cleaned up, and left. I was happy as a clam. When Avi came to my house to see the problem and give me an estimate, although his minimum charge is $1,000, he estimated the initial work to be only $500, which was a blessing for me, since I would have paid $1,000 and more to prevent a tree root from damaging my entire front porch and foundation, so his approach was realistic, is a good word for it, in that he does enough good work that he can choose who to work for, and his assessment of my problem and me, as a customer, was exactly correct, and that's what I mean by 'realistic'. He found no need to sell me on all the gruesome possiblities, and made it clear from the start, that until he saw what was beneath the shifting paver, it was all conjecture, and true enough!! I deal with vendors constantly in my line of work, so to find such an excellent service provider on Angie's List was one of those things in a person's life that does turns out to be exactly as promised, and I find that's rare in our world. I would recommend Avi and his company to anyone who needs an honest assessment of their problem, well-qualified personel, and a fair price, and it just doesn't get any better than that.

Very nice guy and professional. He was very articulate and he supplied exactly what I asked for. He seemed to be a little less experienced than others I looked in to, and his bid was a high. However, I appreciated the rendering he did. I didn't agree with his suggestion of bringing boulders in to add the slide.

Came to the house and asked us what we wanted. Took pictures of home, showed us pictures of what we could do so we had lots of options.

We did some work ourselves to remove old drywall, and discovered that the back wall was rotted through and underbuilt, and one of the ceiling beams had been inadequately repaired. We spoke to a number of contractors, some of whom wanted to tear it down and start over, others wanted to spend a lot more money on finish instead of focusing on getting the garage safe. Avi was willing to work with us to keep costs down and get the structure safe ASAP. He reframed three walls, poured a 18 inch deep footing to support the foundation, and replaced the roof completely. In the process, he discovered that there were two roof structures, which explained a lot of the sag and damage. Avi's crew was able to rebuild the entire roof and reframe everything in less than two weeks. He was also willing to come up with novel solutions to keep rain off of the bad wall. A week later, we had 2 inches of surprising summer rain, and a leak in the roof. Avi had someone out to check on it and repair it the next day, at no cost. Very responsive and very good work.

Since I have a few properties and been dealing with contractor for a long time, I can honestly say that Avi from So Cal Builders & Design is one of the most dependable contractors we have ever had the opportunity to hire. This is the third project we are doing with him and this time we gave him keys to our new property and trust him implicitly. He finished remodeling of the entire unit, including new kitchen, bathroom, flooring and painting in record time. There is NOTHING this company cant accomplish!

Vendor supplied "3-D" rendering which was helpful and which helped cement the deal. At the time of the presentation of sketches, I asked questions about how the job would proceed, like would there be underlayment under the DG, could they use benderboard instead of pressure treated to contain the waklway, and would a foreman be on site throughout the job. Got assents to all questions. Turns out that the first day or two there were long stretches where there were only a couple of heavy-lifters working without supervision or, really, tools -- aside from picks and shovels. They seemed to have no drinking water either; I suppled water, also they happily commandeered my garden handtruck and wheelbarrow which they employed in fine fashion to move concrete chunks to the truck and the dirt to the back of the lot. I allowed them to put the dirt back there, saving them many trips to the dump in their pickup. The underlayment was omitted due to what the vendor called an honest mistake... says he thought I had not requested it. Actually, I don't think I had requested underlayment; I had merely asked if that was a part of the job and was told it was. Therefore, I of course expected it. Workers arrived between 9-10am most days...kinda late. Agreed upon details were omitted, some important, but vendor took care of most of them when pressed. If I hadn't been on top of it, it's possible the vendor would not have compacted the DG or put an end on the walkway to minimize loss from erosion. So I kind of got the feeling that the vendor and his sub-contractor (not an employee of the firm, it turns out) had some miscommunication between them, and the job was carried out in the way many ill-supervised contracting jobs are carried out. In the end I decided that modern pressure treated wood wouldn't pose a threat to my huge pine tree, research suggested that underlayment wasn't necessary on top of the kind of heavy soil that we have in this neighborhood (tell that to the weeds), and I took the eventual compacting of the DG (by machine) as something of a victory. The short L-wall looks and seems serviceable (if not the neatest job in the world but I don't care) and we'll see how well the patio area was graded to shunt water to the driveway and swale. The area looks more or less like the 3-D rendering (although less sterile) and the walkway is no longer a safety hazard. And then there's the fact that the job is now done, and the back area has been transformed for the better. I certainly could not have done it by myself.
