Clif Jones Painting Company

It was great. Clif was very responsive throughout the whole process, from the quote process through the end of the job. He and his team were always on time and very professional. They kept the worksite very clean. They invested a lot of time in the prep, which makes a huge difference in quality and longevity. He clearly takes great pride in his work and it shows! We had a very positive experience and would certainly use his company again.

Clif and his team are fabulous-they did an amazing job on our home, which is two story. They were impeccable in their work. I would recommend them to anyone who needs painting work done. They were clean, always on time, totally accomodating when we asked for touch up work that was in addition to what was originally planned. I cannot praise them enough!

Clif Jones Painting did an outstanding job prepping and painting the exterior of our older home and detached garage. The crew was reliable, courteous and accommodating -- and very skilled at their work. The prep work, in particular, was stellar. We are delighted with the end result and have received many compliments on the paint job. In fact, after watching the work proceed, our next door neighbor hired Clif to paint her house. It looks great as well! We highly recommend Clif Jones Painting.

It overall went very well, albeit slightly above the original estimate. We were very happy with Clif's professionalism and the quality of the work done. The work was unusually extensive due to the fact that the original painter on the house after its remodel failed to properly prime or treat the wood- leading to some significant damage. As we had already been aware of some of the damage (but not the cause), there was no sense that Clif was trying to upsell us on services. In general, the work was done quickly and efficiently. The cost was a bit higher than planned, but the need for the wood repairs, and the desire to have the work last for decades far outweighed the marginal cost increase.

This is the first time I have ever felt compelled to write a review on Angie's List, because of the exceptional quality and user friendliness of Clif and his entire team. The preparation was as efficient, careful, contained and respectful as possible. The entire team was incredibly professional, and Clif is a great person to deal with. There is a synchronicity among the painters and Clif, who is a very experienced and helpful guide. As this is our first home, this is our first time having a whole house painted, and Clif made the process painless, and even fun. He was extremely helpful in picking colors, and held our hands every step of the way, which (apologetically) we were a bit needier than most clients I'm sure. But Clif has a patience and a resilience that years of experience brings. In the end we are left with a gorgeous new look for our home, a profoundly positive experience, and nothing but good things to say. I could not recommend Clif or his team more highly!

I was going to hold off on reviewing this company, but I feel the need to warn others, after Clif bothering me about work he does not want to perform, out of the blue, on one of my very few days off from work (and, I thought, from Clif & his workers as well... but apparently no such luck) -- Thanksgiving Day. Clif does a lot of boasting, and it turns out getting him to deliver on what he boasts is a very arduous process. He consistently does not do what he says. All I expected was for him to do what he said. He said he'd be on the job site every day, which is far from true, among many other things. When you have concerns, if you like to be told things like (yes, these are direct quotes): "Why do you hate me so much?" and "Calm down"... And if you want to be told you are "flat out micromanaging" him, that you are "confrontational", and "combative" when you ask a simple question about the work being done (or not being done, as the case may be)... Then this is your man to work with. Clif Jones is the most unprofessional person I have ever worked with. His employees are good and easy to work with. Yet, his degree of unprofessionalism leaves me in awe. If it weren't for his workers, I would give Clif an "F" in professionalism. Clif's foreman, Marco, communicates very well and listens when I speak -- even if/when there are mistakes -- instead of talking over me without letting me get even a sentence out, as Clif consistently does. If I could hire Marco without Clif, I would. As it is, the huge hike in price above other companies that Clif Jones does his best to justify via copious boasting & bullying, is really not worth it to me. Nothing is worth the way Clif Jones has behaved. My advice is shop around. Your options that are several thousand dollars less are probably a much better choice. Don't believe the hype (of Clif Jones). I will elaborate more when it is not Thanksgiving Day, and when the job is complete. My update: I spent 10 hours today working on my own home with Clif's employees (I am very adept at the work, I just thought I was paying $16k for them to do it, not have to be so involved and work myself as well). There were many areas that were not properly scraped or sanded (and/or not scraped or sanded at all) before priming & painting -- I could peel the paint off with my fingers, literally, as I showed the workers & other witnesses. His workers were stressed because they said Clif told them they would be in trouble if they did not finish my house today. Even though Clif told me I was paying for three full weeks of work -- 6 days a week, 8 hours per day (be warned, they only actually work for 5-6 hours per day, on a good day) -- and it has only been 2.5 weeks of work. Clif is rushing his workers to wrap it up and it shows. I had to demand for them to do the work, and after much resistance, finally they did... But they did not finish and worked into the dark, and it was a very rough/unfortunate way to spend the evening. These emails (below) speak for themselves. If you want to be threatened to be sued and/or have a lien put on your house -- because you ask for time to review receipts and to have the job actually completed on you home: wow, Clif Jones is your man. Note: Marco said he was instructed by Clif to not leave my home until he got a check from me. Even though he knows the job is not complete. This is very creepy and unprofessional when the workers are already at my home 3 hours later than they are supposed to be, and you are a woman, alone, having this conversation in the dark on your patio -- where the worker is standing & says he will not leave. Clif put both Marco and me in a horrible & unprofessional situation, and I filed a complaint with the Contractor's State License Board tonight. I have ever experienced anything like this degree of bullying from someone I am hiring to do a job. Emails: Clif, It's clearly best to do things by the book with you. I should not have issued a check at all to you when the job is not yet complete. When it is complete, I will pay you, as agreed. In light of your hostile email, a stop-payment has been placed for the check I wrote to you. I should not have written it to begin with, as the job is not complete, and all my giving it to you did was cause hostility... Which is the opposite effect of what I wanted. As stated, I appreciate you and your employees not being at my home from now on unless I am here to supervise. I look forward to the job being complete. It will take me time to figure out all of the receipts & materials -- and to sit down in the daylight to do so. I've been working with your men all day, helping them do their work on the house, since 730am -- because they said told them they had to finish today. I will give Marco a check for the remainder of the actual job bid, $5095, but not for the supplies -- until this is sorted out in a way that is fair and accurate. I also need to look the house over in the daylight to give my final approval. It is getting dark and they aren't done yet, there are a few things that aren't done yet -- like a switch-plate under the walkway that they removed & said they would cut to fit and/or replace. There is a missing screen & missing parts for two other screens. My plants & things are still moved around from the guys moving them. I will need at least one guy here another day to take care of these things -- in the daylight. Clif did an excellent job from start to finish. He was very prompt in coming out to the house for an initial review and quote. His guys started on time every day on the job and were very neat and clean. We had a lot of things around the job that we were concerned about from the point of view of paint drips - granite table tops and counters, built in grill, granite tile, awnings, etc. Not a drop on anything! It was as if they weren't even there except for the beautifully re-finished metal surfaces. Clif was on the job at least once every day to supervise the work and direct his guys. The crew was also outstanding. One of the reasons I love Angie's List is finding great contractors like this. Probably can't say enough good about Clif and his company!

Because our job was a small one, the initial setting up of a date to complete took a little longer than expected. But the job was completed in one day as requested and well done. They even threw the gallon of paint in for free to make up for being a little late.

Clif Jones and his wonderful crew did an outstanding job on my house. No detail was overlooked. Clif is excellent with color, and helped me choose well. The crew showed up daily, on time, and took extra care with everything. The prep work was meticulous; the cleanup spotless. The job took 6 days (plus 1 day for power washing) and they finished exactly as scheduled. My house now looks so fresh and lovely, and I am thrilled with the results. I can not recommend this company more highly.

This is my very first experience using Angie's list (literally my very first call). I contacted Cliff Jones Painting Company in Sherman Oaks, CA late morning on Friday, 9/11, hoping to schedule a date/time for an estimate. They received the "gold" rating with Angie's List, and I have received emails from Angie's List naming them a "top-rated service provider," providing services "in my area." I picked the first telephone number listed on the website for them. When he answered he must have been in his car. He wanted to stop by that same day (within a couple of hours). Unfortunately, I was not able to accommodate this on such short notice, as I was working. He stated that he wanted to come by the same day because he was currently in the area and because, as he put it, "I don't make it to that area very often" (meaning Chatsworth) just a block down from Porter Ranch just before Mason Park. He took my information and telephone number, and said he would call me on Saturday or Sunday to schedule something. It has been almost a week since my initial call, and he never called back. I guess my business was not important enough or the area/zip code was not within his desired area. The website does not indicate services are only available in Sherman Oaks. I would not hire this vendor. You only have one chance to make a good first impression. I'm not impressed!

The large wooden mid-century beams, colums, and trellis, and there were quite a lot of them, were falling apart with dry rot, peeling paint, wrapped beams, etc. They really needed to be rebuilt but that would be a HUGE job. I just wanted to get a couple more years out of what we had, or at least survive the potential pending El Nino winter without anything collapsing. I am an Interior Design who works in San Francisco and New York. I am a member of ASID (American Society of Interior Designers). But I've never worked in Los Angeles so I have no contacts there for painters. I called a few people that I knew, an owner of a Mid-century Modern and high end new home builder to see if they had a pinters to recommend to no avail. I tuned to Angie's List. I found Clif Jones. I called and met with him and liked him. I researched his license, insurance, references, current job sites, workman's comp, interviewed his workers, checked his standing with the better business bureau, and looked at finish jobs. He was very well vetted and passed with flying color so I hired him. We set a date to start. To my surprise, he called to ask if it was ok to start a few days earlier. Then he finished a week fasted that expected. Everyday the job sight was cleaned up and left as if one had been there, sparkling. At the end of the job, the place was cleaner than ever. I walked around expecting to pick up something and clean up something (I ALWAYS do on ALL my jobs), and I found nothing. NOTHING!! There was not a speck of dust, not a spot of paint, not a broken branch, footprint, nothing. Without doubt, it was the single best job I have ever see, and I have seen many. I wanted to get a couple more years out of the wood before having to rebuild, but I'm sure, without doubt, I'm going to get 7-10 more years. AMAZING!!! Clif Jones is now the only painter I will use or recommend in LA. Thank you, Clif!!

Clif Jones is a person with years of experience and always gives me excellent advice and guidance. He color instincts are right on and I know this because he is the only painting company that I have used in the last 20 years. He is always responsive and his crew is top notch! Clif's painters are all experienced and kind. They are clean and respectful. They were on time each day and each and every day they thoroughly clean up and the only way you know they have been there is because you can see the progress they have made. Their pre-work is superior which is essential to ensuring a long lasting paint job. I have had people walk into my home and comment on how clean and fresh my home looks thanks to Clif and his crew!! Clif Jones Painting Company is worth every penny and I am grateful to have them service my home!!

My husband and I were delighted and thrilled at the results of Clif Jones and his team's efforts at painting our house The prep work was extensive and so thorough. Jose the head of the team with his 3 helpers was so polite, pleasant and hard working. They were very punctual and worked extremely hard every day. They didn't smoke or play loud radios. My house looks gorgeous. Clif came by every day to check on progress and was very available by phone or email. I have never hired such a professional group like this before. They will always be my painters. I will recommend them to all my friends. We were so impressed. I felt sad when they all left. I thank them for all they did to my beautiful house. Really outstanding in every way??

Clif and his crew are stellar. They were extremely accommodating, creative in making suggestions for color and enhancing our interior. They showed upmost professionalism with punctuality, tactful consideration of our floors and furnishings, cleanliness and honesty. We felt very comfortable leaving them in the home when we were unable to be there. I will only use THIS company for any future painting needs.

Our house needed an exterior paint job desperately. We needed some wood replaced around windows, sills and deck railing. The job included intensive sanding, primer and two coats. It required some creative scaffolding. A lot of time was spent up high on ladders. Marco and his crew were meticulous. They cleaned up at the end of each day. Clif was responsive to our concerns and worked with us to get samples so we could pick the right color. We were told the job would take two weeks and it was two weeks to the dot. There were no sudden add-ons. No one tried to sell us anything we didn't need. The house looks beautiful. These guys are true pros who clearly take pride in their work. The job actually came in a bit under budget - to our surprise. I highly recommend them.

Clif Jones Painting was another great Angies' List find. We recently bought a house that had not been painted approximately 30 years. What was left of the paint was chipping and peeling. The underlying wood was beginning to rot. We urgently needed to paint the house to stop the damage from progressing. We chose Clif Jones based on the number and strength of his Angies' List reviews. His pricing was very reasonable. (We had obtained quotes from several non-Angies' List companies and they were absurdly expensive.) Indeed, at the end of the job, Clif explained that the house was so damaged that it required about 25% more materials than he had estimated. Importantly, though, he nonetheless honored the original contract price without quibble. It was clear to us that Cliff and his team took great pride in their work, and wanted every aspect to be done correctly. Marco led the crew on a day-to-day basis. They were all fantastic. They spent three weeks cleaning, repairing, and painting our house. They were on time every day. They were very polite and pleasant. And they were very professional. At all stages of the project, Clif, Marco, and their team were a pleasure. Now our house looks brand new. I may be biased, but I think it's the prettiest house on the block. All of the old, wood windows open and close without sticking. We are pleased with every aspect of their work. Quality, pricing, experience -- the whole package. I wouldn't hesitate to hire Clif, Marco, and their crew again.

He was great. He was really nice, and gave me a quote and he was honest. I ended up using someone else, they were cheaper.

Perfoection is not a strong enough word. Cliff came out to give an estimate on Saturday during a 4 day holiday. Timing allowed his crew to start the following Tuesday. They sanded the areas which allowed sanding, Scraped the detail areas around moldings and other surfaces. All was appropriately primed and painted. I was present during 60% of the work. The crew worked without distraction. They cleaned up each day and left no mess or debris during the project and none at the end. The final product for the house seemed to say it was 1937 again for this 1937 built house but with better/newer quality paint.

PERFECT! Clif's crew are the VERY BEST! Always prompt! Careful, organized and easy to communicate with. There were 7 terrific guys in my home for 2 full weeks and there was never a problem or issue that wasn't resolved quickly and easily. Clif's daily supervision was great and his attention to detail incomparable! I will soon be working with Clif again soon ~ on the Exterior of our home. His company is the only one I have used for the 16 years we have been in our home! Kudos to Clif AND his guys! Terrific All.

DrClif and his expert crew did an fantastic job. His crew was professional, polite, and in general demonstrated that they take pride in their craft. Each day they tidied up and when finished, they left the with the job looking perfect.

Whoever thought painting your house could be a fun experience?Clif Jones Painting Company painted my house and it was just fabulous. His workers were efficient, polite, effective, hard-working, organized and very collaborative. I highly recommend him and his crew. I would gladly use them again.

I bought the 249 deal for 2 painter all day. However , when they took a looked at the area to be painted, they said it will take longer due to the area that needed to be fixed with wood filler before they can be worked on.They came on time and started laying plastic sheet all around the house. They scraped off the old paint filled and smooth the area with wood filler and primed it. It took 2 day to do that part then it rained. They finished up painting on the third day. They did a good job and left the place like they've never been there.

I can't say enough good things about Clif Jones and his crew. They were punctual, efficient and absolutely professional. Clif checked in on the job every day and was always just a phone call or email away. There was a lot of high ladder work on this job and it took 4 men 2 weeks to complete. The crew always cleaned up every day before they left. These are professionals and it shows in their work. The prep, which is really key to a great outcome, was outstanding! In total, they went above and beyond to ensure everything was done right, even tweaking minor things they encountered along the way. I am so appreciative of the careful job they did and I would give Clif Jones Painting Co. my highest recommendation.

This is the 5th time I've used Clif Jones Painting over the past several years and again, I am thrilled. We had new lighting installed in our dining room that resulted some pretty ugly holes on our walls. Clif's crew did an excellent drywall repair job and there is absolutely no trace of the patching. In addition, a good portion of our living room was painted, our den was painted and the entire master bathroom-- ceiling to floorboards were painted. The crew was excellent, spoke English and were incredibly neat in their work space and polite. They did a massive amount if prep work and an outstanding paint job. When the left the place was spotless. Their attention to detail is one of the reasons why I like Clif Jones Painting so much and their work is excellent. Clif came to my house for an estimate, gave me a very reasonable quote, and the work was done within my time frame as promised. I couldn't ask for more. I highly recommend Clif Jones Painting.
