I bought a condo that needed a lot of updating and was referred to Pier through my realtor, Beatrix Molnar. He was fantastic! He took out the ugliest shower stall, converted the bath into a bath/shower (which took some finessing since the walls weren't straight), leveled a drop-down ceiling, installed both bathroom and the kitchen sinks and faucets, installed my kitchen cabinets, appliances, the bamboo flooring, baseboards, ceramic tile in the bathroom, and kept me calm throughout the stressful process (and didn't charge me extra :)). Everything was completed to a high standard. He was also a clean worker, which was very important to me given that I was living there while all the work was being done. His prices are very fair and he was responsive when I wanted things redone (they were done by a someone helping him that he no longer works with). AND he was able to have all that work done in a little over 2 months! I highly recommend him.
Description of Work: Remodel of kitchen and two bathrooms - demo of shower stall, converted the bath into a bath/shower (which took some finessing since the walls weren't originally straight), leveled a drop-down ceiling, installed both bathroom and kitchen sinks and faucets, installed my kitchen cabinets, appliances, the bamboo flooring, baseboards, ceramic tile in both bathrooms

I would give the customer service and professionalism I received an "A" rating. Pier was quick to return my call and give me an estimate. He also took the initiative to contact the lock company directly to determine how to correct a problem with the door handle. Very pleasant to work with. However, regarding quality of workmanship, I would give a "C" rating. The front door should have been sanded, smoothed out, and painted prior to installing the door lock. Since that was not done, you can visibly see groves from the previous lock, the door does not look smooth, and there is paint on the door lock as well as parts of the door exposed where he could not reach with his paint brush. Very nice man, but the quality was average. UPDATE to my previous report. In my previous report I gave Pier an "A" rating for customer service, however rated him a "C" for work quality. When Pier saw my report he contacted me immediately because he was concerned that I was unhappy about the quality of the work he performed. In fact, he insisted I do not pay him unless I am 100% satisfied with his work. He offered to correct any work that did not meet my satisfaction and promptely returned to do so. I am completely happy with the work Pier did and was impressed by his commitment to customer satisfaction. He was pleasant to work with the entire time. I would revise my ratings to a full "A" for all services provided.
Description of Work: Fixed gate latch and replaced rotted board; replace front door locks with some modifications; and shaved and painted two doors to correct sticking.

He drywalled over the air ducts and they vent. My husband had to pick that out when he left. He also did not cash the check for four months. The drywall has since bubbled, so I will have to do this again. I would not use him again.
Description of Work: He came and put up some drywall in my home and the ceiling around the shower.

The last time I spoke with the the member's was on the day I completed the work in July of 2009; they said they were 100% satisfied with the work, paid me the money, and signed off on the job. As a matter of policy, I never collect final payment until my customers are COMPLETELY satisfied with my work; I take my work and customers’ interests seriously and always make sure everything is done to their satisfaction. It is difficult for me to determine why the members are not satisfied at this late date (6 months after job completion), as they have NOT contacted me about their concerns. I would have expected them to call me at the first moment they were not content with the job. However, what I do know is that the only reason why drywall typically “bubbles” is because paint is applied without first applying a primer. I did not paint their drywall. However, I did warn them that if/when they did paint the drywall that they would need to use a primer. As for the applying drywall over the air duct, I only covered those openings that they wanted covered, and as I noted above, they approved all work on final walk-through inspection. I am sorry that the members are not satisfied with their drywall. However, their claims are not warranted and I find it both odd and problematic that they are first mentioning their concerns six months later and over this forum, rather than a call to me months ago. I take pride in my work and always do whatever is necessary to make my customers happy.

Pier came first to give us an estimate and after that it took a couple of calls to schedule the appointment, but he was very polite. He was two hours late for the appointment, but did call to explain that his helper had not showed up. He did a great job, very neat and even though he had to take the cabinet doors home to complete them, he returned the next morning and installed them and they fit perfectly. He cleaned up everything and even offered to come back again to put the old oven out on the street for pickup. That's service! Plan to use him again to renovate our bathroom cabinets.
Description of Work: We needed to replace our existing wall oven with a new one which was larger. This necessitated removal of the old oven and enlarging the hole in our kitchen cabinets to accommodate the new oven. The existing shelf had to be relocated as well as the cabinet doors re-sized. Finally, the new oven had to be installed.

My first experience with Pier was very positive, so I had him submit a bid on building me a new shed. He submitted an estimate within a few days and we agreed on a date to begin. Although the work began one day late, because of an emergency with another client, he and his helper arrived promptly on the time set for the second day. Most of the work was completed that day, with just a small part of the roof, some finishing, paint and shingles left to go. Pier agreed to return the following Monday. That day he arrived quite late in the afternoon, but he and his helper worked until after 8:00 pm that night and even helped move my belongings back into the shed because of a forecast of rain. Now just the shingles remained and Pier arrived a few days later to complete that part. I did notice some small patches that needed painting and the helper was sent out the next day to finish that up. Pier charged me a very fair price for a beautiful shed, whose roof line mtaches the slope of my carport perfectly and is painted to match my house. The construction is as solid as I would expect a home to be. The two men cleaned up every day and left the workspace spotlessly clean. I did not mind the delays as much as I might, because Pier did a very good job keeping me informed as to why they were delayed and when they would be back. From start to finish, the project went from October 5 (estimate) to October 20 (final paint touch-up). Actual work time was about 25 man hours over 4 days.
Description of Work: Tore down and removed old shed. Built new 5 x 4 x 8 foot shed, with door, shingled roof and 4 shelves around 3 sides.

He had given me a bid a few weeks ago. Iwas surprised by the price--it seemed high--so I checked with 4 other handymen. No one else seemed to know how to repair it or told me that it would have to be taken down and rebuilt--for more than Pier was charging me. I called him back and arranged a date. He confirmed the day before and showed up exactly on time and went right to work. He finished and cleaned up and was done in about 4 hours, charging me exactly what he had originally quoted. The job was done well and the lattice is very secure. He even painted over the screws on the inside so that they would be less visible.
Description of Work: Pier repaired a latticework covering on my carport that had been installed by someone else less than a year ago and was coming apart at various locations. He installed vinyl "beams" with wood on the inside to the top, middle and bottom of the lattice and then secured the lattice to it. This is how the installation should have been done in the first place!

Pierre was professional, came out, gave me a written estimate and let me know how much time the job would take and what I could expect. He and his co-worker showed up promptly. Pierre had to check on another job but his helper continued with the project and got it finished in record time. The assistant was friendly, capable, and polite and he cleaned up after himself. It was a very good experience

His exact words were: "I will be working on a job real close to you. How about 2:30"? I said great, that I would leave work early. I then left work early, using my paid leave time to do so. By 3:00 PM he was not here. At 3:30 PM he still was not so I called him and needed to leave a voice mail message as he did not pick up and told him how concerned I was that not only did he not show up at the time he specified but that he did not even bother to call me. By 4:10 PM I just had to leave for prior appointment and left a note on the door to let him know I would be back shortly. I got home at 5:00 PM and my note was still sitting there. At around 4:45, while I was still out, he called and left a message that "...my car wouldn't start". I have trouble believing this. Not that a car might not start, but that if he really attempted to keep his appointment with me, he would have tried to start his car at 2:15 or by 2:30 or by 3:00 or by 3:30, or by 4:00 PM, etc and to not just call to let me know "His car wouldn't start" -is really so unprofessional! So, my first time trying Angie's List has been a complete bust. By the way, besides his voice mail message he left over 2 hours after he was supposed to be at my house-I have not heard from him since!!
Description of Work: NO SERVICE PERFORMED AS HE DID NOT HONOR HIS COMMITMENT TO COME AT THE TIME HE STATED: Earlier this week I called "P" from Angie's list to do a minor service and asked if Friday 7/24/09 would be OK.

Response from P's Handyman Services Inc
She and I had an appointment at 2:30 pm on Friday, July 24, 2009. On that morning I had difficulty with my car, as it would not start when at a customer’s home in Long Beach. (I had taken my car to Sears Auto for routine maintenance the week prior, mentioned a possible weak battery, and was told everything was fine; as I do not want my car to interfere with work, I stay on top of such matters and service it regularly.) Throughout the rest of that day, my car died numerous times, putting me greatly behind schedule and struggling to merely get from point A to point B. So as not to miss all appointments, I attempted to keep going, rather than get the car serviced that day. Needless to say, I was running about 45 minutes late to each job throughout the entire day, as I often needed to have my car jump started. Later that afternoon, around 3:30 pm, she left me a voicemail message, saying that I should have been to her home by 2:30. I finished a job around 3:30 pm and was ready to race over to her home, when I heard her message; she said to please call her right away and that if I could not make it on that day, then it was OK, and we could reschedule for another day, as she could not wait. I was relieved, as it seemed she understood, and at approximately 4 pm, I returned her call and got voicemail. In my message I sincerely apologized for being behind schedule, informed her of my car trouble, and asked her if we could please reschedule. I called her again later that day and left a second message telling her to call me at her earliest convenience with a suggested day and time for me to do the work. I never heard from her again. This situation was unfortunate; however, I did everything I could to keep all appointments on that day and inform my clients of my schedule when it was certain I would be late.”

This house was built around 1946 and the ancient toilet flange was not holding the toilet bolts. The toilet had moved, the wax ring had leaked, and part of the flooring was rotted. Pier came to the house and discussed it with me. We agreed I would cut away enough of the floor to allow us to see the framing underneath to evaluate what would be involved in repairing it, then he could give me an accurate quote. I did that, and he came out again. The structure was mostly undamaged but the framing was rather weird around the old flange and needed to be augmented. Pier gave me a quote and we arranged for him to come back and do the work. He was prompt and communicated well, and did a great job to give us a nice, solid floor that we can now tile or finish however we want. He also followed up to make sure everything was satisfactory and that we were happy with the outcome. We are, and would use him again.
Description of Work: Installed 2x6 framing under the floor, cut off old cast iron toilet flange and installed new ABS flange. Installed new 3/4" plywood sub-floor using screws and adhesive. Installed new stop valve, supply hose and new toilet (I purchased them, he installed).

The crew was right on time and was careful not to damage the hardwood flooring under the carpet or the patio under the pergola. There was no trace of padding or capet or scrape wood left. Couldn't have gone better.
Description of Work: Demo'd and removed all trace of a pergola over our patio including disconecting electrical lines. Removed and took away old wall to wall carpet and padding that had been down over 30 years from two bedrooms, a hallway, dining room, and living room. Took down two valuable and delicate antique light fixtures and installed new fixtures. Also moved remaining furniture from house to either the garage or to the curb for pick up by the city.

It went very well. I had to change the schedule in the middle of the job. Pier was flexible and accomodated that.
Description of Work: Pier installed five interior doors with new hardware. He shaped the door sides as needed to fit well into the existing frame and hardware slots. Pier opened the face of two closets. He replaced the needed framing and drywalled the surfaces. Pier replaced a wall the previous owner had removed. This included modifying and adding electrical outlets.

Pier came out and gave me an estimate for removal of existing cabinets and replacing them with a wall and shelves. He also quoted on removing a window and then putting same window back in. When he took out the cabinets, he said it would look better to replace with cabinets he'd design for our TV and audio equipment. He is a perfectionist - and came up with ways to make the new unit blend with existing closet and bookcases (new unit fit in between these). He even made molding that matched the rest of the room to tie it all in (he couldn't find replacement molding in natural wood, which is what we needed). The window was much harder to take out than he first thought - required more stucco removal. The stucco repair is perfect. He ended up charging me a bit more for the changes from the original quote and it was fair and well worth it. We are so pleased with his work.
Description of Work: Pier made cabinets to house our TV and audio equipment. He fit these between 2 existing units. The end result is fabulous. Looks like one complete unit. He also removed a window so we could put a couch into the room. The stucco repair is perfect. You would never know the window had been cut out.

The tile is awesome - he did such a nice job. He cut out an old oven fan that was covered by drywall (that Sears left) and finished it off to where you could never tell it was there. When he ran into problems with installing our back door he was able to remedy the situation because of his obvious experience in construction. Very friendly, very informative and he and his 1 man crew tried to take special care of our new Pergo floor. They came in and worked around new cabinetry, floor & appliances to finally finish off our kitchen remodel with no damage to what was already there. We are very happy with the results.
Description of Work: We hired Pier to come finish a kitchen remodel that Sears started and left far from finished. Pier did numerous detail finishes to complete our kitchen like fixing, patching, & smoothing drywall, installing glass tile backsplash (very precise and looks AWESOME), painting wall colors (3 different colors), installing new door and security screen door, cut and installed crown molding, and creating a new window sill for a flowerbox type window.

Upon meeting Pier, he was extremely nice and very prompt. He had excellent ideas and completely understood what we wanted to do. He also had the most competitive price compared to others we had spoken to prior to Pier. After our first meeting we were very confidant in his ability to do the job the way we needed and in our time frame. The job was put on hold for a few weeks and when we called him the second time, he was more than happy to schedule a time to begin the project. He was excellent in communicating with us his time-frame and keeping us updated on the status of the parts ordered. He showed up right on time and immediately began working. For having construction going on in a busy office we hardly knew he was there. He completed the project in less time than was expected and completely went above and beyond our expectations. He cleaned up everything and if it was not for our beautiful new banner system you would have not known there was any installation done that day. His solution was very unobtrusive to the eye and we have received ample compliments. I would recommend Pier and his services to anyone. He was efficient, honest, ethical and more than capable. In fact he will be here Monday to do more work for us.
Description of Work: Pier created a completely new, innovative and more efficient way of hanging window banners. Supplied and installed one inch thick X 2 inch wide X40 inch long wood, painted wood white and 2 medal hooks for each piece of wood in 19 storefront windows.
