I had confirmed via email with Pier approximately 2 weeks ago the date/time to meet at our new home to obtain an estimate for some remodeling work. I did not hear from him the last couple days to confirm which I think is odd, however I emailed him very early this morning to confirm our 8:30 am meeting today. I had my daycare provider arrive one hour early, and was late for work in order to meet him at 8:30. He did not confirm, he did not respond to my email (even now at 6 p.m. still no response) and he didnt show up. Not sure why he thinks his time is more valuable than mine? I just spent an extra hour of daycare fees in order to meet him! I will not use him or recommend him as I think it is completely rude to just not show up and that is surely a clear indication of how work will be done. This could have been several thousand dollars worth of work, apparently he doesn't need the job. Thanks anyways for wasting my time and money today. I wish only serious workers advertised on Angie's list.
Description of Work: Pier did not show up for an appointment this morning to provide me with an estimate for work.

I never received a response back when I sent the customer a time and date. I did not check my email early that morning. I also take my work very serious .I am sorry we were not able to meet but in your comments you thought it was odd you did not hear from me maybe you should have called me by phone.I find that email is not 100 percent accurate.

Pier, as usual, did a great job. He built the doors custom, and on site. They look great, are secure and lockable, and add a touch of class to my spanish style home. In fact, I just met with Pier to go over a few more projects that I am considering. He always gives a detailed, fair quote, and will work with you to customize it to your needs. Also up front about any add-ons or upgrades, which will happen when working with old homes. You can't avoid the surprises. Pier is my "go-to-guy!"
Description of Work: I have used Pier for a number of projects, but the latest was a pretty big deal. I had exterior gates and doors that were old and unsightly, that I wanted built new and secure.

He came late to our appointment. When the job was done, he said that he had some extra work to do and wanted another $100 - in addition to what we already agreed on. He also didn't provide me with an itemized receipt after the job - he didn't tell me how much the fan would be initially.
Description of Work: He installed a bathroom fan.

The customer received a written quote just like any other job we do. the customer was called when running late. When Installing the ceiling we found a pipe running in the path of the fan. This led to more work that was not figured in original bid.Customer was told and verbally agreed. That verbal becomes part of the quote. When the job was completed the customer was asked if he was satisfied 100 percent. He paid the total amount due.Now 4 months later he is writing in and saying that he was over charged for the work in which there was no damage to the drywall. My question to the customer is why did you pay the bill and why did you wait 4 months to respond. The only time ther are additional charges is when things are hidden that the eye doe not see.

On time, very professional, on the door the concrete was uneven so he had to do a little magic and all was good. Pier said what he would do and he did what he said, couldn't be happier.
Description of Work: Pier was just great. In one day he replaced an old rotten gate with a beautiful new one that matches the old one perfectly. He also replaced an old rotten door with a fiberglass (weather-proof) one.

Pier is very personable and he knows his stuff. He can trouble shoot on the spot which is the sign of a true professional. Pier cleans up after himself when he is done with his work and I am using him again for some other work around the house.
Description of Work: Pier moved my microwave oven which was about 15 inches above my stove higher. To do this he had to build a matching cabinet that was above the microwave, remove the existing cabinet, remove the microwave - mount the cabinet, shorten the exhaust tube & then remount the microwave. He also repaired several drawers in my home.

I spoke with Pier over the phone to tell him what services I needed, and to set up a time to meet. I also shot him an email with a picture of the door style I was looking for. Everything was fine with his punctuality, he showed up a couple mins late, but definitely less than 5 mins, so that wasn't a big deal. Where he really lost me was his pricing. For one, he gave me the cost for the style door I was looking for in wood, and fiberglass. The fiberglass door (I wanted fiberglass) he said would be a couple hundred dollars more expensive than the wood, which when I went to the place where I would buy the door, the opposite was true. Then he hit me with his labor cost...which would be $800.00 for installing the new door/jamb/trim and an additional $200.00 for installation of a security screen. So a grand total of $1,000.00 labor costs, $1,250.00 for the door, then whatever the cost of the security screen. I got 4 different quotes from people who actually hang doors for a living, and Pier was the highest by nearly $500.00 from the next highest bid. When I asked him about his price, he said he doesn't negotiate, which is fine, that's his prerogative! He's got a high rating on Angie's List for some reason...maybe he's the greatest handyman who ever was, but I couldn't get past his labor costs to find out.

I am responding to [member name removed] comments. First, I am a custom finished carpenter by trade, and a very typical thing that carpenter's do is hang doors; thus, your job was certainly within my areas of expertise. Second, typically when a person is seeking 5+ bids for one job, more than likely that person is looking for the cheapest price; people who select me do so as I perform excellent work...excellent work takes time, and you get what you pay for. Finally, my on-site estimates are free, regardless of how much of my time it takes to prepare; thus, I find it inappropriate that you would rate me poorly merely because you did not like my bid price.

Pier's a busy man with a lot of clients but he was here everyday, if he was going to be late he'd call. He has 1 employee, Greg, who works very hard. Both men worked 12 hour days, if needed, to finish the job's. The remodel took 5 business days - it would have taken any other company, at least, twice as long. There's nothing this man doesn't know how to do & do it well! Phase II of my construction is starting July 15th - he's replacing my 30 yr old patio slider and kitchen garden window with energy efficient new windows. In a few months we're going to begin Phase III - kitchen remodel.
Description of Work: Removed & disposed of old furniture, removed & disposed of carpeting, replaced carpeting with beautiful hardwood floors (entire 1st floor) that exactly match the existing on 2nd floor. Installed floor molding throughout 1st & 2nd floor. Sanded and stained 1 front double door and 2 garage doors (1 for my neighbor). Fixed dryer from getting water all over the garage by installing clamp on plastic tube that sends the water outside (don't know what it's called).
This is the 2nd project Pier has done for us at our home. He is a really smart man and works hard to give you a great job. He uses only the top grade woods and hardware as well as name brand paints. His apprentice Greg is not only a hard worker but a nice person too. They were both very considerate of our home and left it clean and as dust free as possible every day. This project was planned 2 months in advance and was done in 11 days (2 days ahead of schedule) Pier's work ethics remind me of how I trained my children to handle a job and customers I will have Pier back to install a new 1/2 Bath in about 3-4 months. Tony
Description of Work: Demo a ceiling bearing wall, support with beams in attic, take floor down to floor joists repair termite damage, put in new sub floor and new flooring. Replace all kitchen cabinet doors and drawers (top grade hardware). Paint existing cabinet framework, furnish and install 6" crown molding, install dishwasher. Paint entire remodel rooms (2) with 5 color pallet.
He is excellent and does a marvelous job. He really thinks about what will work with what you want. He gives you options and clear explanations about those different options. He and his brother in law our excellent craftsman. My garage cabinets are better than my kitchen cabinets. I would highly recommend their services.
Description of Work: They remodeled our garage. They custom made the cabinets. They built a platform for the washer and dryer and put the washer and dryer on the platform. They built an extra step for the garage into the home. They started with the studs. They installed a ceiling and a ceiling fan. They put in wall boards with insulation behind the wall boars. They also installed flooring.

We had to rip out the walls in the bathtub area to fix a plumbing problem. Pier came in and installed subway tile, painted the entire bathroom, and repaired the ceiling in the living area. The place looks great. Let me say My apartment building was built in 1923 and the job was not an easy one. I have used him before and will use him again when needed. Great job Pier!

Second time we have used Pier to find a leak. This time we knew it was in the upstairs shower and he and Greg quickly discovered the reason why ... poor workmanship when the house was remodeled prior to us. He had to remove the lower 6 inches of the shower tile including floor and glass doors and a few floor tiles to ensure we did got all the potentially "wet" sub floor. All was reinstalled to better than new condition (there is NO chance this shower will leak again). Looks like nothing ever happened. We will definitely use him again if needed. Very high quality work.

Pier is easy to work with, knowledgeable, skilled, and efficient. He listened to what I wanted to get done, and then made helpful suggestions, which led to a better project. All the doors work like they should and everything looks great. He's a real craftsman, which is quite rare these days. Not cheap, but worth the price to have the work done properly. I've already asked for an estimate on another project.
Description of Work: Reset exterior doors so they would open and close smoothly. Installed deadbolts. Sanded, stained and sealed door sills. Painted porch details. Reset interior cabinet doors to open and latch properly.

I started by calling a siding specialist from Angie's list, and when I described the problem, recommended me to a handyman because of the size of the job. I really appreciated that honesty. Anyway, I read reviews of several of handymen and called/emailed two of them for bids, one of whom was P's Handyman. The other never returned my email or called me back (which is typical for many of these guys). Pier returned my email and told me quite honestly that he was about a month out just to bid the project. Because my project wasn't urgent, and because of the consistently favorable reviews on Angie's list, I thought that was fine. Pier gave me a specific date and time for the quote, and he was there promptly. The problem I had resulted from a change to my roof line during an addition to my house that was done 11 years ago. He commented about many things concerning this addition that really opened my eyes. Anyway, I received and accepted his quote. Pier is very busy, so if you have a project that's urgent, it is not likely that he will be able to do your job. But if you have the time, it's worth the wait. He scheduled our work about 3 1/2 weeks from acceptance of the quote. He arrived on time and completed the work on time. I checked in with him several times throughout the day and he was eager to show the progress made. Gregorio, his assistant, also deserves kudos as he did a great job as well. The work completed looks better than the original. The only think I had to do was get the paint to match. They cleaned up everything and you can't tell they were ever there, except for the stellar handy work performed. I will absolutely call Pier again for other projects.
Description of Work: Removal, reconstruction and painting of about 35sf of water damaged board and batten siding above garage where siding meets roof.

Pier came out to give an estimate on our kitchen because we had a really bad experience with an unlicensed contractor. He really helped us out with the situation that we were going through as far as obtaining a quote for everything that went wrong with our previous contractor. If we move forward in the future with the fixes, he will definitely be on the top of our list. Very punctual and very informative and cooperative.
Description of Work: We called Pier out to give an estimate for our kitchen.
Pier was prompt in his arrival. He got right to work and kept us abreast of the progress and gave input on the needed repairs. He is a great communicator. He spent two days doing the previous mentioned repairs. His quality and professionalism is exceptional. He is prepared when he arrives and does not waste time. As you can see from the above list of items there was a variety of needed repairs. He was qualified and skilled in each area. The finished product was very desirable and looked better than the initial product when the house was new. He has an eye for perfection and the skill to match his eye. He was also very aware of safety issues with regard to the repairs and made sure those issues were first on the list. When he finished the job he cleaned the area and left it the same as upon his arrival.
Description of Work: Pier and his helper performed some window sill repairs, installation of outside railing, fireplace upgrades and repairs, stairway railing adjustments, bathroom tile repair and installation, and kitchen cabinet adjusting.
Overall, Pier was great. When he came out for the estimate, he explained exactly how he would address all the issues that I needed to have fixed. During the work, he and his helper did a fantastic job of making all the repairs, ensuring they were done correctly. I would definitely use Pier again!

This is the second time we have used Pier to fix our oak furniture. The first time he fixed the leg on our oak diningroom table. We have 2 oak highback chairs that we tried to fix when the seat split apart in two different places. We needed Pier to help us. He heated the glue that we had used to repair the chairs so he could get them apart and properly realigned. He put the chairs back in perfect alignment and refinished them. They look just like new! We were worried that we would have to get a whole new diningroom table and chairs set because they don't make our oak color anymore. So we are very happy that Pier saved our beautiful table and chairs! We recommend Pier to fix any wood furniture that you might have that needs repairing.

Pier has expert knowledge in cabinetry and did a wonderful job of putting the cabinets together. He was very careful with our existing water pipes but still managed to place everything together beautifully. Thank you.
Description of Work: Pier installed a set of 5 steel cabinets in our garage. It wasn't an ordinary install because we have water pipes where we wanted the cabinets to go. Pier put the cabinets in with great care and matched up all the cabinets so they look very professional. I would highly recommend Pier for his expert knowledge and professionalism. Thank you Hal and Wendy Friedman.
We did not bid any other companies. We got an estimate from Pier only, based solely on the excellent reviews he received from Angies List Customers. This is not my normal way of hiring contractors. I always get several bids. But the reviews were so outstanding and once we met Pier we knew he could handle our job. We had been dealing with a slow shower leak for almost two years, trying to fix it ourselves with no luck. Within 5 minutes of looking at our bathroom, Pier knew it was a failed shower pan. Pier was easy to contact and returned calls within a reasonable amount of time. We had a few reschedules on our estimate appointment but we worked it out. He emailed a detail bid within the time he said he would, and while it was a costly job, we felt the price was fair based on our knowledge of friends jobs and our own experience. The job took about three weeks to complete (M-F), a little longer than Pier's original estimate, but we had some drying and wait time during the process due to the amount of water and rot in our shower. Not Pier's fault. Also, Pier did come on one Saturday because we were concerned about the tile grout, turns out it was the grout's fault. Pier fixed it with another layer of grout. The job moved along smoothly and Pier and Greg did a great job of cleaning up every day and keeping us informed along the way as to what was coming next. Pier made several creative suggestions that really enhanced the final look in the bathroom. In the end, the job turned out fabulous and we were very pleased with the work. Pier is a perfectionist in every sense of the word. He wants to make sure you are happy with the job, He was honest and provided exactly the service that he said he would. As our job progressed it was apparent that we had hired the right guy. He is extremely knowledgeable and experienced. Much more than a handyman. However, he takes small and larger jobs, which is great for people looking for help beyond what they can do themselves. Lastly, please note that Pier does most all of the work himself, with Greg helping. Pier will come to your home and give the estimate and schedules the job and works the job. He was in our house every day during the process. Because of this, he is a busy guy and you will have to wait for his services. From the time I signed my contract with Pier, until he started our job, it was a full two months. You will have to wait for him, but it is well worth the wait. I am planning to hire him for another job soon.
Description of Work: Complete removal of existing shower (including shower pan), and replacement of rotted shower stall. Rebuild shower walls from studs, including complete rebuild of shower curb and shower pan, cement. seal and and tile entire shower. Level and tile bathroom floor. Remove existing vanity and move electrical outlet to better location. Remove toilet and re-install new toilet.
Pier's bid was comparable & he came in on budget. He is a very hard working perfectionist and it became clear very quickly that our project was going to be well done. It seems he does have some time-management challenges due to the fact that he will stay until it is just right. He was hands-on; coordinating and overseeing every step of this project. Pier has very high standards; Greg, his right hand man and the companies he brings in reflect that. Our kitchen is exactly what we wanted and Pier exceeded our expectations.
Description of Work: Pier & his crew totally gutted our kitchen. He designed a new kitchen meeting all our unique needs. Custom wood cabinets matching the stain we wanted were made & expertly installed. Oven & cook top were relocated, including relocating the downdraft. New refrigerator, dishwasher were installed, which meant new electrical & plumbing. Because of the new design, the original stone floor needed some adjusting. The quartz counter top is exactly what we wanted and installed flawlessly. Back-splash tile & tile mural was installed. All new code outlets, etc. were put in - including a new electrical panel. Additional work space was exactly as designed.
I can't thank Pier enough for the beautiful work he performed on my home. This was my first experience working with him. I had deferred many needed projects due to a horrible experience I had approximately eight years ago with a dishonest contractor and terrible, sub-standard work. Quite frankly, I was just scared to be taken advantage of again. I met with Pier before the holdays in 2012 to discuss the project, but an illness in the family prolonged my start date until after the New Year. At that point, I had to wait until Pier had availability. He was well worth the wait. We discussed the project and the order with which projects should occur. We discussed project materials and he provided his valuable opinion on the materials I was considering. He recognized the issues I had with the previous poor workmanship , and rectified those issues. He provided valuable insight into the projects and improvements at hand. He was professional, friendly and knowledgeable. Pier and his helper,Greg ,were respectful of my family as we were living in the house during this rather extensive remodel.( My two sons, - 8 y.o/11 y.o,. enjoyed their daily Major League Baseball banter with Pier who is a die-hard Tigers fan. We are a split household - Dodgers/Angels). Pier and his crew cleaned up as much as possible each day. All unnecessary construction materials were removed from the site daily. His crew was trustworthy and I felt comfortable with them in my home. Pier is a master finish carpenter, the molding looks beautiful. The doors work beautifully. The painters were terrific and cleaned up each day. Pier has an intuitive knowledge and natural curiosity about how things should work, it was really quite extraordinary to watch him troubleshoot the problems that arose . He can fix anything! I wouldn't let anyone else work on my house. If you want it done right the first time, call Pier.
Description of Work: Replaced weatherproofing, threshold and hardware on front entry door. Re-balanced to open and close as new. Replaced and balanced several interior doors including hardware and hinges. Replaced hinges and hardware to other existing interior doors. Balanced to open and close as new. Replaced and balanced exterior back door. Replaced hardware, hinges and locks. Restucco and paint to match exterior of home. Removed and restored existing 1953 cabinet doors of master vanity and built-ins. Sanded, painted, hardware and hinges replaced, balanced to open and close as new. Re-routed over the counter microwave exhaust ventilation (from interior flow) through kitchen cabinets and roof for exterior venting. I apologize I could not get to the phone when the member called the first time, as I was in the middle of doing a job. I was still on the job when the member called me a few hours later, but was able to answer the phone on that occasion. The member needed a gate repair and when I told the member I was booked out for the next couple of weeks, he disconnected the phone call. This was the only interaction I had with this member.

We located Pier of P's Handyman (owner) on Angie's list and met with him for an estimate and requested we be scheduled in. Unfortunately after we got into the project there were additional problems that had to be addressed so the cost of the job increased over the initial estimate. However, we believe you get what you pay for in most cases and Pier was very creative and knowledgeable in dealing with each of the challenges as they came up. He has a General Contractor's license and we would consider him more than a 'handyman', at least from our previous experiences. There was additional electrical, plumbing and duct work required--corrections from previous jobs that had to be addressed before we could move forward in some areas. He made new cabinet doors and drawers for the kitchen, moved a cabinet over to accommodate a new stove, ran a new water line for the fridge. In the bath he replaced the cabinet, sink, faucet, light, medicine cabinet, mirror and added a cabinet over the toilet as well as a new vent fan. We are very pleased with the job he did and will call him in the future for additional work
Description of Work: We have owned a townhouse since the 1980's which was originally built in the 1960's. It is used as a rental and had been maintained and repaired as required. Most of our tenants have been good people but there is always the exception, fortunately few and far between. When our last tenant moved we decided it was time for more than just clean and paint. The bathroom needed a replacement sink and faucet and the kitchen needed a new stove and sink, and cupboard doors and drawers were beyond needing just paint.
