This is the third project that Pier has done for us .I would not hesitate to call him again for any project I may have. With a 70 year old house I expected that once we started demo we would find problems that needed to be addressed. (water damaged sub-floor, termite damage. Pier found them all and was very fair with the added cost to bring our home up to current standards. He and or his crew were on site daily for the 4 week project. I have received compliments from the building inspectors as to the quality of work being preformed. I have had neighbors stop by and ask for Piers phone number, to look at their proposed project . I would recommend Pier to anybody who wanted the work done right.
Description of Work: On our 70 year old house he Remove 4 layers of roofing, re-sheeted and applied 3D composite shingles. He sandblasted all stucco. Patched all cracks and damaged areas, applied a brown coat and stucco color coat. He gutted my bathroom put in a new tub tiled walls to ceiling and laid new floor tile. He installed new drain lines for laundry.
Pier came over about a week after I first called to look at the necessary repairs and followed up promptly with an estimate. Given the extensive repairs required on two of the doors, one a double door, the estimate was reasonable and given the good prior reviews on Angie's list I felt comfortable in accepting the proposed estimate. The work was slow at first, but I could tell that was because Pier and his assistant were being meticulous on the requirements of the repair. They carefully and beautifully restored the two exterior doors that needed the most work and then wrapped up with the other two, where they were replacing the rotted or warped wooden thresholds. They cleaned up each evening before the left and left no trace after they were completed except four beautifully restored exterior doorways. I was especially impressed at the manner in which they handled some of the unexpected and unusual requirements of the repair including a reversed door jamb, poor framing support, having to cut back tiles, warped doors, and prior repair jobs which left mystery nails in the door and a small replacement piece of wood in one case. The doors all look fantastic now. The two needing the most work are now better looking than when I bought the house over ten years ago. The added benefit is that they now seem to be completely sealed, keeping out both noise and the weather. I could not have asked for a better result.
Description of Work: Door repair on four exterior doors. Two had extensive repairs required. The other two were more minor repairs
To start, we need to set the record straight. Pier is not a ?handyman? (e.g., a person who does odd jobs). He is instead an ?artistic craftsman? blending both artistry and highly skilled, precise, workmanship to everything that he does. I wanted to remodel my bathroom which included working on a concrete slab with plumbing running in the slab and sewer running under the slab. I wanted to move the toilet and then extend the shower into the area that had been previously occupied by the toilet, significantly increasing the size of the shower (which turned out much larger than I had anticipated, to my delight). This also necessitated customizing a new bathroom vanity to accommodate the redesigned room as well as maximum space. Walls could not be moved and there was no place to add on to make for a bigger room. I got a bid from another company for a cost of $12,370. They were doing other work for me that involved built in desk and book case as part of an office. There workmanship was very good, but there were problems encountered that, while resolved, left me a little concerned with tackling a major revamp to my bathroom. I had used Pier on a more limited project installing two solar fans, and in talking to him was impressed with his approach, as well as the workmanship on the installation. So I got bid from him for the bathroom remodel that came out to $19,200. It took me all of about 5 minutes to select Pier?s bid even it being about 40% higher. This was due to several differences: The first bid was very general with 10 items listed generally. Pier?s bid had 29 items listed, with great specificity on each one. For example, one item listed was listed simply as ?plumbing.? Pier listed the plumbing to be done as an item (e.g, relocate shower drain; relocate toilet drain and water line; etc.). In addition, Items that I had to purchase and brings to the site myself if I were to use the other contractors but were included for Pier to purchase and bring to the site: Purchase and install Shower and floor tile. Purchase and install ceiling light/fan/heater/night light combo unit (this was his suggestion that gave me the bathroom heater I wanted but had not been even mentioned by the other contractor). Purchase and install frameless shower glass. Obtain and pay for city permit. Furthermore, in the shower, his work consisted of using waterproof concrete wall boards, complete waterproofing of the pan with heavy vinyl, and then several coats of a waterproof sealant, while the other contractor was only going to wetmop a pan. In seeing the quality of materials, the process, talking to Pier, and doing my own research, Pier?s method if far superior, much more certain to prevent any shower leaks through the tile and into the supporting wall board and studs or the slab, and was a high quality method of doing leakproof showers. I think the only way for this shower to leak is to intentionally punch a hole into the floor or wall. The work was also complicated by the old plumbing. Apparently former owners had done some form of remodel that left unused drain pipes below the slab, and had done repair work when remodeling a few years ago due to leak. This work was not only done without permit, but violated code and left the building unsafe. Rather than doing the work necessary to preserve the integrity of the studs in replumbing the shower, they cut notices into each of the studs leaving their integrity compromised. This unforeseen problem had to be rectified. In addition, the rerouting of the drains turned out to be a much more complicated effort than originally thought, and required breaking up a large portion of the slab, including a portion in the living room to be able to connect to the main drain at a point that was directly under the wall. All of this could have been an excuse to add to the work cost due to unforeseen circumstances, but Pier kept the original bid as submitted. One of my concerns with the previous bid was a paltry $1500.00 allocated to all ?plumbing.? Not being a contractor and having only a paltry knowledge of construction and costs, even I doubted such a low amount for all ?plumbing? that was included in the first bid, given what I wanted done. I also added things, such as installing a window in the bathroom, adding a rainfall shower head to the ceiling as a second shower head, and adding shower tile all the way to the ceiling and across the ceiling rather than just part way. In addition, a week before the work was to start, I had two leaks in the pipes in the slab, one that fed the master bathroom, and one that fed the kitchen. So I had Pier replumb the entire house so that all plumbing was in the ceilings and the walls, with nothing left in the slab. This included replumbing the master intake pipe, the water heater in the garage, and the spigot on the patio. In addition, I had the ?popcorn? taken off of the ceiling in the family room and dining room, and some other miscellaneous work done. This brought the entire project up to a total of $48,060.00. I subsequently had him demo the old flooring damaged by the water leaks and install new flooring for a total of $2475.00. This was a little below the bid that the insurance company contractors were asking for the same work (which they didn?t want to do as the cost was too little for them to waste their time on). The overall quality, the attention to detail, and the work that was done is without fault. We were worried that when installing the new plumbing in the ceilings and walls that would be telltale evidence, in part because the former owners had done the painting and we did not have any left over paint to use or match from. The matching was so close, and the repair work was so well done, you have to know where the holes were to even let your imagination see some evidence of the work. What was originally a 7-10 job turned into over 25 days with lots of finish work, and meeting the demands of a rather taciturn building inspector. But, I am thoroughly pleased with the work a year later.
Description of Work: Remodeled bathroom, replumbed the entire house, scraped popcorn off ceilings, did miscellaneous other work, and demoed old floor and installed flooring due to plumbing leak.

Pier does excellent work and he did everything we asked him to do. Pier's assistant, Greg, is an incredibly hard worker and does his job with a smile and a positive attitude. Our kitchen gets rave reviews from our guests, family and friends, as do our barn doors. Pier is not merely a contractor, he is a craftsman and a perfectionist. More importantly, we LOVE our "new home". The kitchen was stripped to the studs and completed, with new plumbing, new electrical and new appliances, in three weeks! During that time, we were without a sink for two nights and a stove for one night. Pier made sure that we were comfortable throughout the process and we were able to cook and clean almost as if there were no remodel being performed. Pier moved the washer/dryer from the kitchen to an upstairs landing where the laundry should have been located when the property was built. In addition, Pier fixed problems that were obvious to us when the walls came down - problems with the construction that had been in the structure since it was built; he addressed those issues and mitigated them during the remodel at no additional cost beyond his original quote. We've heard horror stories from friends whose remodels have taken months...ours was done in three weeks to perfection. Pier's work is worth every penny that we spent; if you want the best, he's your professional.
Description of Work: Complete kitchen remodel, relocation of washer/dryer, hanging three barn doors and replacing master bedroom entry door.

They were really good. It took them three days. But they started two weeks earlier to design the countertops. I couldn't even find anybody who was going to do a job comparable to what he was going to do. I never found anybody that I could compare the price to. He was really good with the design. He has good ideas. He was punctual and was pretty much on time. He was flexible. He is very talented.

Pier did not end up doing any work for us. That was not the problem. The problem was that Pier allowed my wife and I to invest a fair amount of our time describing our projects by phone and email only to be told days later he was not available. He was not respectful of our time and, when called out on this, he felt the need to defend himself with a very unprofessional email.
Description of Work: We contacted Pier about a number of projects around our home.

First of all one phone call and one email does not say you spent affair amount of time with someone.Second when the phone call and the email are about a week apart things change fast in the remodeling business like customers call and say they want to sign a contract. The schedule of what I can do changes I can only do so much. I told the member that who is say after I give you a bid you would hire me. I do not work on maybes sorry it did not work out Pier

The look I wanted involved both block and a PVC wood look material for the fence. Pier worked with the other contractor - who didn't put the posts for the gates in as they had agreed. Pier made it work. He has a wonderful eye for detail and he is a perfectionist. He doesn't work fast, but he gets it done, and beautifully. He has done many projects for us in the past. We had a flood in a bathroom last year and he came out immediately and removed a cabinet he had made for us previously so we wouldn't have to replace it. I will use this service again.
Description of Work: Pier removed the wood siding from the front of our house, replaced a window with a french door and then stuccoed. This was ahead of our project to put a fenced patio in to replace our front lawn. Pier worked with another contractor who did the concrete and block work as I wanted a specific material for the fence.

We were having a low volume of water coming into our bathroom, and shower. The hot water pressure was down to almost a trickle. We called Pier, and he promptly came out to estimate our problem. Pier, pointed out to us, that whoever the previous contractor was ,very derilect in replacing all of the galvanized piping. Only some of it had been replaced with copper. And, the remaining galvanized piping, that was left, was causing our water shortage problem. He quickly diagnosed the problem, and left us feeling comfortable, that it could be resolved for good. He did the work, and it's been long hot water showers, ever since. I would totally call pier back for anything, that ails our house in the future. He is super knowledgeable and a very nice guy!
Description of Work: Replaced all galvanized plumbing pipes underneath the house and walls. Replaced all piping with copper. Replaced all piping and shower valve, and shower hardware in bathroom. Replaced old water heater , with a really hot Noritz tankless water heater, and water filter.
Pier was very responsive on short notice to meet at the site for an estimate on the repairs to a vacant duplex unit. He had some excellent ideas on how to address the repairs that were needed. The estimate was very reasonable and he got to work right away. I needed an existing medicine cabinet shortened because it extending into the shower area, which required the cabinet frame and door to be modified and matched to the 1909 style. I was very please with the work and he matched the shower tile infill perfectly. The work was completed in the time promised, which was very helpful as I had other trades coming in to install flooring and some pick-up painting work to make it rent ready. Before we even contracted on the handiwork work there was a bust in an existing sprinkler line that was flooding the lawn, his worker came over on short notice and addressed the issue to stop the leaking. Great service! I will not hesitate to use him again on future repairs and handiwork.
Description of Work: - Replace stem valves in bathtub and install new tub handles and spout. - Modify and narrow an existing built-in medicine cabinet and door in bathroom, mimic craftsman style. - Infill tile in shower area where void was made from modification of medicine cabinet, match existing tile. - Remove old floor heater, cap gas lines, framing infill of opening. - Refresh and reseal tile grout in kitchen.

We asked Pier to replace our existing front door, which involved removing the old custom frame and modifying the new door frame and sidelight. The project took a bit longer than we anticipated, because a door that was supposedly ?in stock? had to be ordered after all, but we?re delighted with the final result. Pier and Greg are knowledgeable and accomplished, and we felt throughout that they would do a good job for us. They made sure everything fit perfectly, and cleaned up before they left. My husband, who is rather picky after being in construction for many years, was quite satisfied with the quality of their work. If all you need is a ready-made door hung in an existing frame, you might find someone to do it more economically, but I wouldn't hesitate to call Pier again for anything that needs a special touch.

We are extremely happy with the work Pier and his crew did on our house. As you can see from what we had done, it was a fair amount of work. I can't speak to the price of the work compared to others as we did not seek other bids. We saw on another review that it might not be the cheapest, but it is worth the price. It was done correctly the first time around - we won't need to hire anyone to do any "touch up work." BEFORE The project began with Pier giving us a free estimate and actually talking us out of purchasing a new door. We were gifted a French door we really wanted to use, but it was a bit too small for the doorway. He was able to add wood to it in order to make it bigger and it looks great. DURING: Throughout the project, Pier was in constant contact to keep us up to date on what was happening. There were no delays, no problems, no difficulties at all. He completed the work in the time frame given us. Pier and his crew are perfectionists - which is exactly what I want when someone is working on my house. There was no half done, shoddy work. AFTER: They cleaned up and removed all the old wood, old doors, their trash, etc. We did not have to anything after they were gone. Would I recommend him to a friend? Already have. Would I use him again? Already planning next project.
Description of Work: A general idea of the amount of work done by Pier and his crew in the past few weeks (there was a bit more, but this is the majority of the bigger work): 1) Exterior paint & trim (needed considerable prep work). 2) Remove old gutters, install new gutters. 3) Hang & stain new front and back doors (cost of doors included in price) 4) Hang and stain new front screen door. (cost of door included in price) 5) Install French door (our door) on barn style track, added extra wood to door. 6) Install 3-panel door on barn style track. 7) Replace and hang new security back door (it had been installed incorrectly prior, not by Pier.) 8) Fix rafters in garage.
Pier and his assistant did excellent work. We couldn't believe how great everything turned out. He was on-time and thorough and made it a point to make sure the work was done right. We would definitely recommend him use him again. Hi Pier, sorry it took us so long to write this review!
Description of Work: Pier built us a beautiful laundry cabinet, complete with demolition, floor tiling, framing and drywalling, and installation of new bifold doors.

We have used Pier many times in the past for projects big and small, so we didn't even consider anybody else for this job. He was involved all the way from the planning stages where he gave us a great source for tile for the bathroom (Tile Matters) and even helped us lay out the pattern for the tile and the countertops. We had very specific ideas about the type of Kohler fixtures that we wanted and he was quick to find them and get them installed exactly as we wanted. He and his assistant Greg did all the work themselves and as usual it was precise, meticulous, and of the highest quality. The job took about three weeks to complete, and the results are truly spectacular! We feel as if we have been transported to another world when we go into the bathroom to take a shower or get dressed in the morning. Thanks Pier for another fantastic job.
Pier is definitely NOT the low bidder, he's so busy he's hard to get hold of if he isn't working your job, but if he is working your job he's instantly available anytime and the job gets done fast and absolutely perfectly.
Description of Work: Installed a new interior wall and door, refinished and painted walls and ceiling, installed 2 8 ft closets/mirror doors/shelving, finished new floor.
Pier clearly has the skills to do any type of home repair or remodeling. This came in handy when the projects we needed were more difficult than expected (it was like watching a home improvement show where the surface layer hides bigger issues). I also appreciated his thorough explanations of the best way to do things. Attention to quality is important to us as homeowners and Pier demonstrated that in both the planning and execution of his work.
Description of Work: Installed new locksets, repaired rotted wood pillars on front porch, repaired wood molding and flashing for sliding patio doors, installed new door, repaired and reinstalled large double door to storage shed, replaced fascia board, installed new second floor window, repaired and reinstalled front door, installed new second floor vent screen.

I live 200 miles away from my mom. I asked Piers to give my 92 year old mom a bid for the job. He quoted $4,500 and estimated to my mom that it would take 2.5 days. Now to be fair to Piers, nobody ever knows how long a job will take and when a contractor gives a flat quote as opposed to time and materials, he is taking a risk, but this quote was astronomically high. I called Piers and asked him about this quote and pointed out the hourly rate which if he hired one guy would be $112 per hour. He did not appreciate this and responded that it may take him 2-4 (which later in the conversation turned to 5) days and he may have to hire 5 guys. I know my mom's house. This job would not take five guys, five days unless they were blindfolded and had one hand tied behind their back. If you consider hiring Piers I would strongly suggest you ask him for time and materials and if you have an elderly parent and are not able to be there at the time, I would be steer clear. Now, I am sure that Piers will write a response defending himself, as he has done with all the other 'F's he has received, but I would urge you to be careful with this guy.
Description of Work: Gave a quote for sanding, repainting 18 outside windows in 1300 sq ft house. Quote also included painting under eaves and replacing termite eaten portion which was two 18 inch studs.

Response from P's Handyman Services Inc
Dear (Member name removed), I have 4 comments in response to your review: (1) As all of my customers (for whom I do and do not do work) know, I bid the job with one price; I do not break down jobs by hours and materials, but rather by steps to complete a job and then how much it will cost to do the job right and to completion (with 100% customer satisfaction). For clarification--I told your mother anywhere from 3 to 5 days (not 2.5 days), and I communicated the same thing to you on the phone (we have never met). How long a job takes depends on many factors, as you suggest--weather, schedule of customer, # of workers available, etc. (2) It is clear to me that you believe my bid is too high. That is fine. My cost is often higher than the average contractor. BUT, this is because I do things correctly the first time and my work is based on over 37 years of experience. I never take the cheap or quick way out....and, my customers know this, as they do not need to have my work re-done or corrected later. So, if you find my work too expensive that is fine. I can understand budget; however, I will never sacrifice doing a job the way I know it needs to be done to fit a budget. I am never upset when a customer decides they cannot afford my services. It seems, therefore, appropriate that an interested customer should not be upset with me for bidding a job at the price I believe it will take to do it well. (3) My bid price is the same for anyone who has a particular job. I find it very offensive that you would hint that my bid was high, in your opinion, because your mother is over 90. The job is very labor intensive...the home is old and the windows are French with lots of grills. Furthermore, since you were the one to find me, I suggested to your mother that she consult with you before committing to any work (in spite of her saying that she wanted to move forward). I work in a way that is full disclosure with all parties interests in consideration. (4) We have never met; we have only spoken 3 times over the phone. You were very interested in my services until you saw my price. Furthermore, I do not appreciate the fact that you yelled at me during our 3rd and final conversation. Writing this review that is not accurate and not appropriate is not OK only because you believe my price to be too high. My bids are free...they tell the customer what I believe it will cost to do the job well and of a superior quality. If my bid is too high, you should just say, "Thank you for the time and free bid. Unfortunately, it's more than I wanted to pay." I would then tell you that's fine and best of luck with your job. Sincerely, Pier
On time, thorough clean up. Very professional and pleasant. I would use Pier again and recommend him to others.
Description of Work: Rehung front doors. Sanded, restrained, and rescaled front doors. Repaired hole in bathroom ceiling from a leak in pipe and painted ceiling. Removed faulty wire (not up to code) on large light box used in stained glass workshop. Repaired faulty lightswitch in bathroom.
This was our first time using Angie?s List and we were very pleased with our experience. We were looking for a contractor to update our kitchen by refinishing the existing oak cabinets, install new counter tops, stainless steel sink and LED lighting. In addition to this, we wanted to install copper piping and add rooftop ventilation for the stove. Our kitchen had been upgraded on several occasions in the past by unqualified contractors leaving cabinets that didn't match in height and edge details, among other things. After meeting with Pier, we were quite impressed with his multi-trade experience and we were comfortable with his point of view. He pointed out some things that we had never noticed and he presented some ideas and choices that would make our old, tired kitchen fresh and current. Pier gave us a realistic quote and not just a ?low-ball? number to get the job and we were free to choose our kitchen fixtures and counter top materials within the budgeted amount of the quote. When Pier got done with the kitchen everything was perfect,he would have it no other way. He took the time to match the cabinet heights, leveled and matched the existing edge details that ordinary contractors would have simply overlooked. He converted our bi-fold pantry doors to conventional doors. All drawers and doors received new ?soft-close? hinges and ball-bearing slides. He installed new LED can lighting and brought the electrical up to code. He installed all new copper piping and plumbing fixtures and the Cambridge quartz counter tops are simply amazing. The cabinets were completely stripped and re-stained with the addition of an antiquing process that really made them look like brand new cabinets. As has been said in other reviews, Pier and his assistant Mr. Greg are true artisans and doing business with them was simply a pleasure, one that I wasn't expecting when we first considered this project. I made it clear that once started, they work to conclusion and not try to juggle multiple jobs and he assured me that this is how he works. He said that they would have it done within 3-weeks and they finished a day early, working long hours and even a Saturday to keep on schedule. Every day when they left they cleaned up after themselves. For our job, they never left us without a sink, running water and they even installed plywood counter tops at the end of the day so we would have a work space to cook dinner. During the 3-weeks of construction we were never without all of our basic appliances (refer, micro, and sink). I think that you would be hard pressed to find another contractor as professional and considerate as Pier & company. I would definitely hire them again.
Told me he wasn't taking new work.......huh? Why have a coupon and be on Angie's list if you don't want work?

Very positive experience with Mr. Pier Angeli. We knew we were working with someone who knew exactly what he was doing, and did things right. He was punctual, consistent in returning calls promptly, and showed up with a good attitude. As with any earthly construction project, things will come up, and he found good solutions to them all. The quality of materials and the workmanship is top notch. Pier and his assistant Greg show great teamwork. We are happy with the way each project turned out. Pier is not one to cut corners. He sets a high bar for the work and isn't satisfied until it is done perfectly and even artfully. He took time to show us what he did, how and why. Any concerns that we had were addressed and completed to our satisfaction. A super positive, smart, upbeat person. A real artisan. We will definitely call him for the next project. Gratzia Milie to Mr. Pier Angeli and Mr.Greg Garcia.

This was the second time I've used P's Handyman on rental properties I own. Pier has replaced termite damaged boards, refit bi-fold doors that didn't fit after new wood flooring installation. He has patched aging and damaged stucco walls so they look new again. He replaced an a entry door including rebuilding the frame from scratch. The door now works great and is tight and weatherproof. Pier knows what he is doing and is very good at what he does. To call him a "handyman" is a gross under-rating. He is a professional. He shows up on time, is easy to work with. He has a lot of experience in the building trades and it shows when you watch him working. P's Handyman isn't the least expensive you can find but if you want quality work, done right the first time and on time I wouldn't hesitate to recommend P's Handyman. It is very likely I will call upon him for future work.
Description of Work: Various wood repair, stucco repairs and door replacement/rebuild.
Pier is very experience, knowledgeable and skilled. His Painters are the best I've worked with and Greg his right hand man Greg is great. We were very happy with the three closets worked on
Description of Work: Sealing up a wall, putting in matching hardwood floor and complete closet building including raing the entry by a foot and putting in custom slider doors
