Pier did a thorough and professional job on everything. With his many years in the building industry, he recognizes flaws and problems, and repairs things as they ought to be - not just enough to get the job done. This standard of excellence troubled him when it came to our windows - there was only so much he could do to repair the problem when they had been done so poorly to begin with. As soon as it rained again, he was calling me to hear how the windows were holding. Hearing that one was still leaking, they were back immediately to deal with the problem and assured me they would keep working at it whatever it took - so far, so good. Our master bathroom looks fantastic. His professional experience was obvious, and his creativity made the most of the space we had to work with. He installed new tile and glass along with what remained from before, and it all integrates beautifully. As he promised, his work looks so good, you would never know they were here. Our new shower looks even better than I imagined, and everyone in our household wants to shower in the master bathroom!
Description of Work: Our retrofit windows (installed by the previous owner) have been leaking. Our bathtub has also been leaking, damaging the wall in the master bathroom. We hired Pier to correct 4 improperly installed windows and repair all the water damage inside and out on the walls. He also removed the improperly installed jacuzzi tub, repairing the wall and floor. We decided to replace the tub with a shower and glass sliding door. In the same bathroom, Pier created a custom linen closet with sliding mirrored doors, installed a fan vented to the outside, and replaced the vanity mirror, vanity light fixtures, and toilet.

Pier was easy to work with. He showed up when he said he would and worked every day until the whole job was complete. His bids were clearly written and competitive. His work is excellent. Pier is one of those people who is driven to do the job right in every detail, always thinking ahead to make sure the work will be good for decades. For example, he spent significant time working to route the PVC drain pipe for the water heater and a water supply line for the fridge in the cleanest way possible. Pier did most of the work himself. He brought in some specialist electricians for the 50-amp circuit and their work was just as good -- for example, they routed the armored cable all the way up and over the framing in the garage so that it wouldn't be in the way when I eventually finish the walls (without me asking). We plan to have Pier do more work for us, including a bathroom remodel and flooring.
Description of Work: 50 amp circuit with NEMA 14-50 outlet in garage, can lights in kitchen, new water heater, chimney and flashing repair, and some minor electrical and plumbing cleanup.
After the great results Pier accomplished with Round 1 of my renovations (which included the Kitchen),I hired him for Round 2—installing patios in the back yard. My wife wanted to go with a natural look and Pier worked with us and made some valuable suggestions on how to accomplish this. We installed two patios, one for outdoor dining and one for hanging out and grilling. Each patio was made of large pieces of natural slate. Pier, and his right-hand-man, Greg, took pains to ensure that these patios would last for years by laying and compacting a solid foundation of sand for each. They also painstakingly laid the irregularly shaped pieces so they would not wobble, while keeping an eye to the aesthetic we desired. When I told Pier what we wanted to accomplish, I had no idea that it would require such a meticulous and iterative effort. For example, Pier and Greg would lay a few pieces down, ensure they did not wobble and ensure they were level. But because the stones are irregularly shaped and of varying thicknesses, the next batch might not be wobble-free and level with the last batch of stones without undoing what came before, tweaking, and trying again. It turned out to be a real difficult puzzle that they solved perfectly. One reason I enjoy working with Pier and Greg is they have serious pride in their craft. I observed many opportunities for short cuts, but I’m pretty sure they never thought for a moment about taking a single one. They also built a porch made from the same slate onto the back of the house. This job required a deep cement foundation and installing rebar into the house’s foundation. Pier seemed more proud of the porch than the two patios because of how sturdy he made it. He seemed to find true enjoyment in accomplishing that. And that’s another reason why its so great working with Pier—he really likes what he does—and that is apparent in the quality of his work. I also want to say a couple things in response to some negative reviews I’ve seen about Pier’s communication habits. Pier works 8 days a week. He uses his cel phone for voice calls. He emails at night. If you are the kind of person who needs immediate responses by text message, that’s your problem, not his. You should not leave negative reviews because you can’t get in touch with him on your terms. Also, contracting work—particularly scheduling--is an inexact science. Get a little patience and roll with it. Doing a great job where it counts is not 100% compatible with returning phone calls and punctuality. Do you leave negative reviews on Angie's list when your doctor is running late? I've now worked with Pier a lot, and I'm telling you, he's the best. If you don’t have patience to help Pier help you, including by being flexible with your schedule, you don’t deserve to work with him.

Pier did a great job, as always. I've used his services several times in the past, and he does the best work, by far, of any "handyman" or contractor service. I'm always confident when Pier works on my home that the job will be done right. He's a little more expensive than others, but his work has been worth it so far. He's always on time, professional, and gets the job done on schedule.

Pier and Greg did an excellent job of diagnosing the problems and then advising of what additional work needed to be done. He gave me some good referrals where to find new tile and vanity for the bathroom. Kept true to his timeline on getting the job completed (<3 weeks). Bathroom looks great and you'd never know we remodeled the bathroom based on the work they did.

Pier is absolutely amazing. I cannot remember the last time I was rewarded with such rich, professional service. He hand-crafted the closet doors so they look like they were part of the original house. He even matched the paint exactly. And the "cat bathroom" is perfect. And it includes a vent!! I will never hire anyone except Pier for my house projects!

Pier was excellent!! I am quite happy with his work. He especially went out of his way to find parts to repair the bathroom faucet. Will definitely use him again!
Description of Work: Several projects that I had been procrastinating about: motion sensor, kitchen cabinet rebuild, fencing, water heater replacement, bath faucet repair.
We have a very small bathroom that had been remodeled once about 19 years ago. It was very dated with a tile tub/shower combo. The tub was unusable as a bathtub. We had the shower/tub replaced with a beautiful cast iron claw foot slipper tub. Pier and his workmen were reliable and dependable. The quality of the workmanship was superior. The tile work, new drywall and texture, turned out a good as I had hoped they would. The bathroom is beautiful.

Pier's worker Gregorio arrived between 9-10 am and patched the stucco on the side of the garage. Gregory then started the work on the siding before Pier arrived to complete the job. The work was done in a day. Pier is very knowledgeable and nice. I asked for advice for some other DIY projects and he was happy to advise me. I also asked about a gap in a door hung by another handyman and He fixed that and the latch that wasn't working properly with no extra charge. Although his prices are in the higher range, I feel confident that the work is done properly. Also he left the place clean. I would definitely use his service again and I would highly recommend him.

Pier did a great job, he was very professional and I would use him again. He gave me some suggestions such as taking the tile all the way to the ceiling and to put in a frameless shower door. He took the time to show me each step and explain what he was doing. Having the tile go to the ceiling made the shower look bigger and I would never go with a framed shower door after seeing how good the frameless one looks like now. If you want a quality job done, he is your man.
Description of Work: I needed to get my shower redone in my master bathroom, complete tear out and rebuild
I cannot say enough great things about Pier and Greg. They found things that were not done correctly in the bathroom and needed to be fixed, they showed me everything that was found and they fixed it all. My bathroom is beautiful, I couldn't have asked for a better job. My wall unit is amazing, it covers one whole wall and wraps around to the other wall, it made my family room look fantastic. They showed up at 8 am each day and worked until sometimes 7 pm at night. I would highly recommend them, they are by far the best around!!!
Description of Work: Complete bathroom remodel and a custom wall unit.
The project went fantastic. The den looks like a brand new room. Since the den was an addition done in the 50's, the room needed a much needed makeover. One of the best improvements was tearing the old wood paneling off a fireplace. The brick ended being in great shape and the exposed brick now adds a great aesthetic touch to the room. In the relatively short time we've owned a home, we quickly learned that the old adage "you get what you pay for" is never truer with home improvement, repair and renovation. Having had some bad experiences in past with what we thought were good deals, ended up costing us much more in the long run to fix shoddy work and shortcuts. Pier's services might cost a bit more than average, but his skill, expertise, and doing work right the first time, is the prudent and finacially conservative best choice. Pier has years of experience fixing and remodeling homes not only in Southern California, but his roots are in the midwest where doing things right in an area of more extreme weather is of utmost importance. His helper, Greg, as well as the subs he used for our project (a painter and electricians), are also a cut-above. Pier only uses people that are equal to his skill and dedication to client. They all do top-notch work. He is an expert in evaluating the entire project, top to bottom, indentifying any issues along the way, giving you a transparent view into his work. He is not afraid to tell you of any issues and how to do them right. With this honesty, he quickly gained our trust and gave us great piece of mind with the work done. Pier was communicative, clean, and explained the entire process. There was an uncertainty with the electric wiring in the wall, that we didn't know the condition of till the walls were exposed. But since he keeps great relationships with his subs, he had his electrician out THAT day, and they were able to fix the next day. We are thrilled with our re-done den, knowing that the work is solid, up to code, safe and will last us years to come. We will not hesitate to use him again for upcoming projects. We are already trying to figure out how soon we can do a kitchen remodel so he can build our cabinets! :)
Description of Work: Pier did remodeling in our den. He and his crew ripped off the old wood paneling of three walls, brought in electricians to replace the old, unsafe wiring, put in insulation, drywall and had his painter subs do the mudding and prime paint. His helper and him, also opened up the den attic to the main house attic and added vents where there wasn't before, to create air flow. The den was a hotbox before the project, and the remodeling was done to better insulate, keep room cooler and make look like brand new.

This is the second time I've called on Pier to do a door replacement. The first time was 2 years ago and he did a great job so I was comfortable in calling him back. The old door was a 1-3/8" thick wood door that was probably the original door in my vintage 1941 tract house. The replacement was a 9-light, 1-3/4" sold wood door so there was some remodeling of the existing opening required. He also removed to old, deteriorated wood threshold and replaced it with a metal threshold. The project included complete weatherstripping and prime painting. The door looks great and works beautifully. Pier and his partner arrived on the job at about 1:30 and worked until 8:30 to get the job done. I'd hire this guy again in a heartbeat.
Description of Work: Replace an exterior wood door
Description of Work: Renew 2 bathrooms. 1 needed a complete tear down of a standalone shower and the other a new floor. His work is excellent and beyond fantastic.
Pier does everything which makes for a quality job. Our remodel uncovered some issues with the plumbing and electrical so instead of ignoring or working around them, he fixed everything and brought them up to code. He also fixed another contractor's shoddy job in another bathroom. He and Greg worked hard and long hours to get the job done, and as others have stated, Pier is a perfectionist and and it shows in the work that he does.

We have been using Pier's services for a few years now. He is always honest, dependable and very experienced and his detail work is amazing. The subs he uses (in this case, painters) were just wonderful and extremely protective of my home. Their workmanship was superb. While he was here I told him of a problem I was having with the ceiling that he had fixed a couple of years ago. He went over to the family room, checked it out, and had it repaired that week at no extra charge. The project took longer than expected due to mold and termite damage found in the shower walls and floor. Instead of replacing a few rows of tile, he ended up tearing down the whole shower. We had a good laugh when he tore into the shower seat and found about 1.5 feet of water! So everything was rebuilt and retiled. Even the floor in the bathroom had to be repaired. He is very detail oriented. the shower alone has over 1000 pieces of tile. (That was a lot of work)! We are very happy with our new shower and the new shower door with the diamond finish is wonderful. We are so happy with his services, and we will use him from now on with the rest of our projects mainly because he pays so much attention to the house itself. It is easiest to reach him by email and he will get right back in touch with you. I absolutely recommend him to everybody. He may be expensive, but you will only have to have something fixed once.

Pier is honest, dependable, reliable, and experienced. He has an impressive attention to detail. He holds his subcontractors and his right-hand man, Greg, to the same high standard he holds himself. Frankly, now that he's finished the work I hired him to do, I'm dumbfounded by what a great experience it was. I've dealt with my fare share of contractors and other home-improvement professionals over the years, and have concluded that, if left to their own devices, many of them are generally either dishonest, incompetent, or both. Also, I'm a fairly handy, inquisitive and detail-oriented person, who needs to understand every little detail of what's going on. For these reasons, I ask a ton of questions and keep my nose in my contractor's business. During the quoting process, this scared off a few potential contractors. But Pier was not scared and seemed pleased to work with someone like me (not to say I didn't get on his nerves sometimes, but he was justified and rolled with it). I believe the reason why was his experience. He's been in the general contracting business since the '80s, and learned many of his skills in the Midwest, where they have real weather, so it's a more challenging place to be a contractor than Orange County. He always had answers to my questions, and even took the time to teach me things I did not know. I hired Pier to renovate my kitchen and perform an assortment of other home improvement tasks, like insulating the walls, and upgrading some of the electrical and plumbing. I also asked him to do a heap of general maintenance tasks and concrete removal. There was one other contractor who seemed like a good guy who I didn't scare off, but his quote was about $3000 (approximately 10%) more than Pier's. In other words, Pier's prices are lower than at least some of his competition. During my renovation project, I used a couple of personal contacts to do the floor and the counters in an effort to save a little bit of money. I also purchased pre-fabricated cabinets because my budget did not allow for Pier's custom cabinets. And guess where I had problems? With the floors, counters, and cabinets. So my advice, call up Pier, tell him everything you want that matches your budget, and then relax while the man does his thing. Perhaps that's the best way to put what I'm trying to say. When you do home improvement, you should expect to have problems, and you should expect that some of them are your contractor's fault. But Pier caused me zero problems. Finally, many contractors are sexist and treat women poorly. Not Pier. My wife was involved in a number of our discussions. He listened to everything she said, treated her with respect, and incorporated her input into his work. Pier exceeded my wildest expectations. He is one in a million.
Description of Work: Install cabinets, craft custom island top, tiling, insulate walls, concrete removal, gutter installation, electrical, plumbing, and many other general home improvement and maintenance tasks.
This is the 3rd job Pier has done for me. The quality is excellent. He is indeed expensive (hence the B rating), but I know I will have a high quality look at the end. I give Pier a B on punctuality because he had to reschedule several times in spite of me leaving work early to meet him. He is very busy, but once he starts the job he is committed. It's hard to find someone who is trustworthy and provides the quality of work you will get with Pier. There are a lot of contractors out there who will "yes" you, but you're not going to get the level of detail and craftsmanship you'll get with Pier.
Description of Work: In the kitchen, remove overhead fluorescent light kit and install 8 LEDs, reposition HVAC vent, demolish portion of wall where single doorway entry from living room was, widening the entry, and paint entire room. In living room, remove existing crown moulding and replace with new crown moulding, reposition HVAC vent, remove existing interior entry light (old) and replace with LED, and paint entire room.

Workmanship is outstanding! He uses wonderful subs and we couldn't be happier with the end result, especially our kitchen cabinets. The quality is amazing. Everything was completed in a timely manner as we had a short window to complete the work. Overall, a very good experience. We used Pier for the major work, but used other contractors for some smaller jobs in the house as we have contacts in the industry. I think this was frustrating for Pier at times but for the most part, it worked out well. He also referred us to a wonderful electrician, Jo Electric, which was great.
Description of Work: Pier completed a kitchen remodel and three bathroom remodel.
He recommended range of vendors, made upgrades, suggestions were most appropriate. Once he began, he stayed with the job. Cleaned up well. He and his team, Greg, Mario were great. Everything was priced out on estimate, unlike other estimates. As work progressed and requirements changed, he adapted. Job was done well. Great to work with for a remodel. I intend on calling him again.
Description of Work: Remodel Bath: replace leaking showerpan, tile, fixtures, shower doors, toilet, mirrors, medicine cabinet, new ceiling fan, lights. Repaired broken tile. Everything brought up to code. Had to redo a numbers of things that were not standard.
