Everything that they promised was done as promised. The workers were very respectful of our home and kept the work area clean every day. The dry rot repairs were correctly done and do not stand out.

It started off great. Warren Knox stopped by to measure the roof. I got up on the roof with him and we talked about the project. The next day, I discovered a leak in the office structure. I emailed Knox Roofing: "We will want a bid that includes the office that had the black asphalt coating. It has a troubling leak." That was the first of four emails (and numerous phone conversations with Knox Roofing) trying to get a bid that included the office structure. 45 days later, we finally received the adjusted bid. It was just the same bid with a hand-written note by the total adding in for "additional section." At first I couldn't see any adjustment, so I called Knox Roofing. I was assured that this was the bid for the office. Cut to just over a month later when I get an email from someone at Knox telling me that they were ready to start, and if I want the office re-roofed, it will cost just under $6K more than they originally bid. Needless to say, I was not happy. The resulting emails had Knox proclaiming that they thought when I wrote "separate office structure" that they thought I meant an exterior awning that is 5.5 ft. x 23 ft. (dimensions that no one would mistake for an office), something I never asked to have re-roofed, and I was continually treated as though I were an idiot for thinking that they had offered a bid on the actual thing I had asked to have bid. In fact, when they sent out a nice man to measure the office, I had gotten up on that roof with him and we had discussed the project in detail. All this would have been easy to work out if only Warren Knox had not continued to be combative and confrontational. He took no responsibility for me being confronted with a significantly higher bid at the very last minute, and when I told them they could not start work until this was worked out, since the bid they had submitted had been submitted under false assurances, Warren threatened me with "other actions" and acted as though I had somehow plotted to rip him off. This resulted in me having to cancel the project. Life is too short to work with bullies who do not take any responsibility for their words or actions. Please note: their roofing work may be excellent. Sadly, the company needs to work on customer service issues. I hope they do.
Description of Work: We contacted Knox Roofing for a bid to re-roof our home and a separate garage that has been converted into an office.

Please read above for what happened. This company has a serious problem. Update, 9/23/16: Please read my last review of Knox Roofing. Since the initial review here and on Yelp the estimator called me and apologized and I accepted his apology. Unfortunately this company does have a few negative reviews here and on Yelp. So I still could not honestly say this company is all that good when I read so many negative reviews. I wish I could be more positive but I cannot. Just remember to do your due diligence when checking out companies.
Description of Work: I had Knox roofing come out and give an estimate on reroofing and install 3 new skylights to replace the current ones. I had a very good conversation and the cost was fair and the estimator was good. Until I got the costs of the skylights from them versus me picking them up from North Glass in Ben Lomond. $367.00 from north glass and $850.00 from Knox. I was trying to understand the large price difference and the estimator who I will not name due to his verbal aggressive nature is trying to tell me how difficult it is in installing the skylights. He was saying how hard it is to remove the skylights and funny thing is they are only attached with 4 screws......anyway he then gets aggressive and says " I'm getting a bad vibe about you so maybe you should go with another company" Isn't that a nice thing to say.....so as a retired firefighter who also did construction on my days off this guy and Knox roofing SHOULD NOT BE TRUSTED! If a consumer cannot ask reasonable questions without an angry foolish man having a crybaby fit then I just have to wonder about the company. Please do not use this roofing company.

Took multiple calls to the office to get anyone to come out. Got the estimate, signed and returned it a month ago - still haven't heard anything about scheduling the job. I'm ready to find another roofer who actually wants my business, will return calls and actually schedule the job.

This was a very positive experience. I had had a very negative experience with Knox a couple of years prior when the company had done a $6500 re-roof with DuraLast, leaving me with slumped ceilings and concerns about possible sub-roof structural damage. But when the co-owner, Darren Price, noticed my negative review in Angie's List, he gave me a courtesy call to find out why I was so unhappy with their previous work. I explained in detail, he LISTENED, and he offered to come out and have a look. Long story short, Darren came out right away, looked at the areas of my ceilings that had slumped down after their re-roofing job, and promised to bring ace carpenters back to cut through the roof and examine the sub-structure to determine whether anything had been broken or bent. Darren came through as promised, took photographs and showed me what they'd found (to my great relief, the photographs revealed no structural damage), listened and responded to my concerns about how they would repair the metal roofing, and made a needed repair to a woodstove brace attachment. He also had one of the carpenters repair damage to my kitchen ceiling tiles, which they will also come back and paint for me. He said he would send me the photographs with notes early next week, and since he's done everything he's promised so far, I'm sure he will. Unlike my prior experience with the other co-owner who had just dismissed my concerns, Darren seemed determined to repair the obvious damage to my kitchen ceiling and the possible damage to my sub-roof structure, as well as to repair Knox Roofing's relationship with me as a customer. I am impressed and grateful. I have confidence, now, that my roof is sound and that the company will be there for me if I have any problems in the future.
Description of Work: investigated possible structural damage during a prior re-roof and repaired some cosmetic damage. This service was covered by their workmanship warranty, so there was no cost to me for the many hours of work they devoted to this project.

They gave a competitive bid, and lowered a portion of it which I found to be a little high. We have a non-typical roof in that part is too steep, and part too shallow. the shallow part required a plastic membrane which is more expensive. All the work was done by Knox employees in a prompt and professional manner. The roof looks better than we thought it would, and we love the skylight. Now we don't have full sunlight in the morning and we can exhaust hot air from our room. The original builder and roofer had vented them into the attic, which is, of course, why we had rotted plywood on the roof. We got several quotes, and had to research different things, (TPO vs Durolast, etc), and had to factor in different materials and warranties. After everything was said and done, Knox's bid was very competitive.
Description of Work: Sections of the shallow portion were also rotted and had to be replaced, along with some other trim which was not flashed properly by the original roofers. Added to this, we replaced the old plastic skylight over our bathroom with a solar powered glass skylight with a shade. They also installed three exhaust fans in our bathrooms, and vented them through the roof.

I didn't use the company because the way they treated me. They feel bad when I chose other contractor than them and like I even don't know how to write a review about that. When he found that I chose to go to other company he actually called me out and threatened me and he will call the city and have my permit hold and if nobody else will see that he will come check and make sure that they were permit and doing a license all those kind of things. I cannot even write a review on that. I don't know what to say. He did an estimate and when he did the follow-up they call me back to see and I let him know that I have chosen another company (he didn't know who) and he asked me why and told honestly the reason that the other company got a good reputation also with the pricing and he just blew up on me and told basically an impression that he thought I just hiring some under the table kind of person and told me that he was going to call the city and they will be checking up on it and if they are not met they will have my permit hold. He threatened me. I found out with the contractor that I didn't hire and he has done that to them and he actually send people at the job site go and see.

Response from Warren Knox Roofing
Building and sustaining a business in today's world is quite challenging to say the least. I, Warren Knox/Knox Roofing, have endured quite a journey to stay in business, especially in a profession as difficult as roofing. The insurance costs, difficulty of the job itself, things required by Government, the latest drought, etc., have made being in business a definite challenge. After 32 years in business, you definitely see a lot of people and perform lots of work. Today's social media and the ability to communicate through the computer has definitely changed a lot in this world. It can be a great tool, or a bad enemy. New laws are in effect now to help protect individuals and businesses from slander, deformation of character, to list a few. To build a business for 32 years, and then to have one individual or situation bring it down by social media, true or not, should not be allowed, especially in today's tough climate of business. Knox Roofing offers the best prices, based on Apples to Apples, 50 Year Non-Prorated material warranties, 6 months to pay with no interest financing, and 32 years of promising customers a quality job, backed by our 10 year Workmanship Warranty, is quite a product to deliver, and we have, in great quantities. Upon the loss of your roofing project, I, Warren Knox, was quite surprised with the knowledge you chose another Contractor to roof your home based on price was a shock. We place Price Guarantees in writing in all our sales packets. The only thing that comes to mind that would possibly make you choose this contractor is that they could not be playing by the rules and laws of business, or must be using sub-standard materials. Frustration definitely set into my mind. I'm very proud of my achievement of Knox Roofing, and will work hard/long days to see it succeed through these challenging times. We did not perform any services for you. We gave you two estimates, free of charge, that in fact educated you in roofing, to your benefit. Lost business due to false social media that can cost a business thousands should not be allowed. I understand that Knox Roofing cannot get every project it bids, nor do we want to, but I do want my competition to play by the same rules of laws, safety, and good work. It's only fair. From the first contact with the fellow who came to look, suggest, measure and cost the job, it was clear to me that this is the company I wanted to deal with. Clearly knowledgeable, clearly cared about the quality of work. Scheduling was easy a piece of cake, even working around the rains. Because my wife workds from home (therapist) we needed Knox to skip a day in the middle of the job. No problem.. no reasons why it was inconvenient... yada yada yada. They simply made it work for us. It was clear that everyone took pride in his or her work... the cost estimator, the delightful office staff, the tear off crew, the roofers, the cleanup crew. EVERYONE!! PROs start to finish. They did a great job!! Left the place cleaner than when they started. COST? Yes, they are more expensive than the other estimates, and no I am not independently wealthy. Dollars count. But so does confidence that folks will do the best job that can be done. And there were no hidden surprises. Their cost estimate was clear and thorough. I do a lot of preliminary research before settling on someone who will work on the homestead!! Ou place really matters to us. Happily, it mattered to Knox as well. Thanks folks!!

Knox had been recommended by a building contractor that had previously done work on our house and whom we trusted. My initial consultation was regarding advice as to how to deal with my leaky roof. Craig Murphy was most helpful in spelling out my options, minor repairs vs. total roof replacement. He was extremely knowledgable and his advice was helpful. I decided not to do anything at that time but the next winter the leaking became much more severe. I called Craig and asked him to come out to look. He referred me to a roofing supply place so I could begin to evaluate my options with regard materials to be used in the job. After that he took control of everything. The job was scheduled, the workers showed up on time, were extremely courteous, professional and hard working. The job was done with dispatch including a section in the front of the house in which we installed slate. I was completely satisfied if somewhat taken aback by the cost of the total project.

I could recommend Knox Roofing. They were quality, they were licensed, they have worker's insurance. They did the job really fast. They were neat and tidy. They have a fair price. It was probably the best estimate that we got. They're local and they seem to be trustworthy. They did an efficient job. I haven't had any trouble with my roof.

Workers showed up promptly each morning, worked hard, took only short break once in a.m. and a lunch break. Cleaned up ground around house very well each day when they left. They tore off roof from section of house that was not to be re-roofed. I had to point this mistake out to them. Fortunately it was before the entire roof of that room had been torn off - too late for the sky light which had to be taken off to reroof the mistake part. It did not leak this winter, so I am happy about that. It was a newer roof so when they replaced the part they mistakenly tore off - the green shingles at least matched. They fixed this mistake at their own expense without. The workers were very nice. I was not happy with the wrinkles left in my new roof on one of the rooms, and they are still there. I contacted the company regarding the wrinkles. I do not feel I was treated in a professional manner. I am uncomfortable giving details! I will say the workers that were here everyday were nice and very professional in their manner, left the place really really clean at night. The product, the insulated roof, works well insulating rooms that had 'flat roof/open beam' ceilings.

We recently had Knox Roofing tackle our 25+ year old roof. We received a quick appointment (within 3 days) and a very fair estimate. We obtained several other quotes from local businesses as well as from a "local big box" store (a total joke, but that's another review) which actually were fair but all were more expensive except one and/or not clear in their appraisals. Warren's estimate was prompt, fair, and concise and had the most comprehensive warranty. We were delayed in committing to the roof for almost a year and when we recontacted to hire him, he adjusted the bid based only on the materials increase, a couple hundred dollars which to our delight was much less than we expected. Our roof was on the books that next week and can't express how impressed we are with the work they did. During the construction, we decided to make a change (less work), and expected to have to pay for the materials with such late notice. It was adjusted from our bill immediately without any question. His employees all were punctual, polite and all about getting the work done. It was a very cold couple of days with intermittent showers (of course, the roof was off) but they worked right through, making sure exposed areas were covered as needed. Detail was very important and we saw true craftsmanship in their work. Sorry to say, that isn't seen to often anymore. Overall, we are very pleased with the quality of the business, it's owner and employees and have recommend them to friends and family. We would not hesitate to hire them again.Although we have the same last name and have been asked by people for years if we are related, we are not but glad to have a name that shares integrity.

.The owner came out and gave the quote. He was a couple of thousand Dollars higher. He was very professional about it. I was very impressed with his quote and the consideration he gave to items that should or should not be done. It was a very thorough quote and he was the most professional of the quotes though I did not pick him for the work. I will consider him to give a quote in the future. I came to know about him through the radio advertisements and I knew of him through local radio station. He was very responsive as he came out the very next day the guy comes out measured out everything and drew up the quote right there.

Warren Knox cultivates an eccentric entertainer persona in his ads, which intitially put me off, but in person he is knoweldgeable and a good communicator. He pointed out mistakes on the previous roofing job, which I could see with his instruction. His crew was prompt and efficient during the whole project. There was some misunderstanding about 2 vent locations, which were immediately remedied. The first rain revealed that two skylights, which were to have been correctively reflashed, had been forgotten. We had a leak. Following the short rain, I called for assistance. This return call took unreasonably long, in my estimation, but when contact was made, the result was repair under warranty by a good quality roofer, relatively promptly, during an extremely busy roofing period. The reflective white coating and 1/2" insulating underlayment provided a providential 10 degree relief between outside air temperature and room temperature below that area of roofing, making the room habitable for the first time during a 90+ degree heat spell.
Description of Work: We chose a large welded fabric product called Durolast to reroof an area of failed rolled roofing. At the same time, we had repairs made to two valleys, and several skylight flashings. We added some roof vents to undervented areas, as well.

After 3 phone calls to this company, Scott finally came to see the job. I signed a contract for $4,651 after the estimator said scaffolding, roof tie-offs (OSHA) and a 4-5 man crew would be required to do the 2-day job. A week later 2 guys show up with a 40-foot ladder and some materials. In less than a day, the job was done. No scaffolding, no tie-offs, no 4-5 man crew. I complained about the high price because the job was not near as involved as initially described. After 4 or 5 more phone calls to the estimator, he finally lowered the price to over $3500. This was still outrageous as the total man hours were 13. If the company cost of each worker was $100/hr (Scott said they get paid $24/hr), the labor cost would be $1300. Add $200 for materials (the estimator said the cost was over $800, but that is not right for a partial roll of Duralast and a few bundles of comp shingles. Add $500 (generous) to the estimator for driving around and the total comes to $2000. Add 20% profit and overhead and the grand total comes to $2400. I still think I overpaid. He argued with me until I suggested OSHA might be interested in a photo of the workers on the 40-foot ladder. I would use the workers again because they were knowledgeable, efficient and seemed to do the job correctly all the way through clean-up. I'm not so sure about the company's ethics in the pricing and responsiveness categories. I would consider hiring the company again only for the quality. I think they were only interested in the much more profitable whole roof jobs.

Wonderful. Warren Knox was pleasant and reliable as well as very good to work with. He explained his process in detail, two different times, so we were very comfortable with what to expect. He told us up front, without our needing to ask, how he releases any possible mechanics liens. His work crew were pleasant, hard working, and very nice to have around the house. They were in and out quickly, in less than a week. We had to call them several times for additional work related to upgrading our bathroom and ventilation (we needed new vents in the roof) and Knox Roofing was responsive, reliable and continued to be a pleasure to work with.
