Worst contractor experience of my life! We entered into contract in Jan. '07 and finished Feb 2008! Original estimated time to complete was 6-8 weeks. It dragged out over one year and we were blamed for the delays! We lived in the construction dust and garbage, garage and bedroom filled with materials, and burglarized. The owner, Vernon, was abusive and cruel bullying with his knowledge as an attorney. We were mocked, yelled at, threatened with litigation & mechanics liens, he attempted to extort more payment for items included in the contract. He set arbitrary allowances on items months after contract. He constantly bemoaned the fact that he underbid the project and went as far as stating that I had tricked him because I worked for an insurance company 17 years ago and had more knowledge of construction costs. He threatened to abandon the project. Mistakes were made in construction and we were constantly in the role of general contractor problem solving errors.

After 3 months delay waiting for a window, work began May 31. What should have taken 6 weeks become almost 7 months of torture. Problems began almost immediately. Days of no work or half days, use of unskilled labor with virtually no English spoken, failed 1st electrical inspection. Ordered frameless cherry cabinets and got face frame. Was told I couldn't have frameless with under cabinet lights. Later discover this is a lie. Drawers didn't match and weren't to spec. Incredibly bad workmanship on everything from the cabinet making to installation,to drywalling. Walls were curved, not level. They let permits expire resulting in fines. The stress of this was incredible. The owner Vernon was belligerent and called me fussy and demanding for wanting what's in my contract. I finally fired them Dec. 21st and they STILL weren't finished. Didn't pass final electric inspection -work was sub standard and not to code. I've spent over $3K hiring others to finish and fix what they screwed up.
