The young and his boss were very friendly and knew exactly what they were doing. The young man, Mike cleaned the area while he worked. He also fixed a light switch I my sons room. I was very impressed. I am very satisfied with the work. I will tell all of my friends about Southwest Electric and Angie's List.

I loved Steve, the owner. He is a nice man who did not try to make me feel like a stupid woman. I never got the impression he was making the job seem worse than it needed to be so he could add unnecessary charges to my bill. He was completely different than the other company I had bid the job. The others wanted to rewire the entire condo and made it seem like the whole place is in jeopardy.Steve was timely and fair and completed on time. I read the reviews and people who expect every contractor to immediately answer a phone, they need to be realistic. Most are working, not sitting by a phone. And I would rather he pay attention to the job he is doing rather than getting distracted by calls. He will get back to you. I would , for sure, use him again.
Description of Work: We were doing some condo renovations. We needed new heaters, under-counter lights, GFI's added, ceiling fans added, and some minor stuff that is best left to a professional.

It’s hard to find honest and reliable people in the home construction trade. I’ve worked with many electricians, plumbers and contractors. Steve and Southwest Electric are a great example of what great customer service should be like. They followed through with everything they said they would. Southwest Electric’s prices were actually less then three other electricians I received quotes from. I highly recommend calling Steve for you next electrical project. I will definitely be referring him to my friends and family.

When I began this project, I called a few electricians from the Yellow Pages that wanted to charge me just to come give an estimate. That's when I decided to give Angie's List a shot. Steve from Southwest Electric came out and gave me an estimate free of charge. On the day of the installation, I described that there was to be a timer plugged in with a pond pump plugged into that. Mike, the electrician, suggested a timer be added in the line before the outlet to make for a cleaner, safer finish to the project (and there is no danger of a sprinkler hitting an electrical daisy chain on the side of the house). I am very pleased with Southwest Electrical and will use them again.
Description of Work: We had an outlet installed on the exterior of our home and an electric timer to control it.

Wonder of wonders, Steve called me two days before my appointment to reschedule due to some illnesses in the office. A contractor that reschedules ahead of time instead of not just showing up! Very happy about that. I have some more fixes planned and will be using Southwest again.

After reading the reviews on this company, I called to schedule an appointment using the contact information on the site. I did not get a response. I tried again later in the week and again did not receive a return call. You should definitely hae a Plan B when contacting Southwest Electric.

Sorry, my wife and myself were both ill during this time and it was very difficult to make appointments, however, I did return the phone call and for some reason she was not available or did not receive my return call. My apologies.

This was an emergency! The main breaker was failing, and we were going into Superbowl Sunday!! Had already gotten a PG&E technician out to rule out that the main grid power was causing our lights to flicker, and they suggested our main breaker was failing. Despite it being later afternoon on a Friday and SOUTHWEST's crew had mostly been sent home, they were able to get a qualified electrician in a hurry and on site within a couple of hours. Before Friday evening had hit, they had finished the repair on our main breaker and things were as good as new. Nice also that they warranty the refurbished part/service for 1 year. I would highly recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: The main breaker on the house was burning out on an older box. They replaced the main breaker with a refurbished part collected from prior jobs where older panels were being upgraded.

As noted above, we had a very good overall experience with Southwest Electric
Description of Work: The electrician (John) grounded several outlets that had not been grounded. He noted several outlets that did not need grounding. he checked on an overhead track lighting problem and determined that it was a bad transformer, and replaced it. He found all kinds of problems in the garage that had been there for years and could be a safety hazard. Most all were fixed, but he ran out of time and will come back later to finish up. John was was very knowledgeable, professional, very pleasant and easy to work with. I would certainly recommend this firm based on our experience with the one employee that did our work.

Service was excellent. All 3 ceiling fans were assembled and installed. Two of them did not have predrilled holes in the ceilings so that was also done. In 1 of the rooms, there was a potential installation problem which was solved by the team. Highly recommended!

We were pleased with how quickly everything came together. The stucco refinish around the electric panel was well done. All the detail work required in the electrical circuit was unblemished. That kind of commitment to doing a fine job is appreciated.
Description of Work: The old electrical panel was the original. The house was built in 1962 and had many alterations to the wiring system. We were concerned as to the safety of the wiring as some of it was not professionally done. Steve came in and did an inspection of all the circuits . The bathrooms were provided with GFI breakers. The garage area also was converted to GFI outlets. The old panel was replaced by a new one. Stucco damage was fixed after the city inspection. New grounding was put into place. The workers completed their work quickly with great expertise.

We needed to ground multiple electric outlets around our house. Looked up Angie's list, contacted 3 or 4 top electricians from Angie's list. One was too busy to come within the coming week or two (or our job was too small) . Another one quoted me an expensive price. The third one came for an estimate and then kept pushing me to pay another 500-600 dollars to add new circuits for "future needs". Then we saw Southwest Electric and contacted Steve. Steve came for an estimate and he didn't try to sell me any expensive options that I don't need. The price he quoted me was very reasonable.I mentioned to him that the ceiling fan light kept flickering and he said he can have it checked out too. He was able to schedule me in for the next day to do the work. The day came and John arrived right on time together with Steve. Steve made sure that everything was ok then he let John do his work. John was very experienced and competent. He was also very respectful and careful when doing his work knowing that we have just refinished our hardwood floor. An hour after John started his work, Mike also came. It turns out that Steve remembered that I mentioned about the ceiling fan and that's what Mike came here for while John was doing the grounding. Mike was very friendly and professional too. He was pretty thorough in checking the ceiling fan and also helped me to check of another flickering program of the lights around the house. He also worked with John to fish the ground wires every now and then while John was in the crawl space. As time went by, Steve came back for a second time to make sure everything went smoothly for both John and Mike. Wow, 3 people working for this project. I really feel that they try to do a good job on this. A single electrician would have charged me the same rate. Mike and Steve also pointed out some other improvements that could be done on the house but they were never pushy and did not try to sell me anything that I don't need. John and Mike finished the work as scheduled. They cleaned up everything and also vacuumed the areas that they worked on. I am really glad that Southwest Electric came to work on my house. John and Mike are great guys who are professional , friendly and clean. And there is Steve who came and the beginning and the end to make sure the job is done properly. So I m very satisfied with the job done and would highly recommend them.

I got quotes from 4 electricians but Mike impressed me the most with the level of detail with which he inspected my home and noticed things that no other electrician ever mentioned before (like "when we do the work we will also check if the box behind the ceiling fan is rated for the weight"). The quote was not the lowest of all quotes I got but I was able to work out a deal with Steve. Southwest was the only company who offered to fix the stucco around the new main panel. I was happy to get everything out of one hand. Quality of work was impeccable. Steve even send John out the day after they completed the work to walk through the house and check everything once more. Now I have piece of mind that the electrical system in my home is safe for my family.
Description of Work: Southwest Electric upgraded my main panel to 200A, replaced all crimp connections in all junction boxes with proper connections (had two of those connections melting in the last 6 month), grounded some receptacles, installed a few GFCI outlets, and fixed a few other minor electrical problems.

John did the troubleshooting. Both he and Steve had never seen all the smoke alarms in a house fail before. Despite this, Steve said John would be able to replace them the next day under the manufacturer's warranty, and also suggested we put in a combination smoke/carbon monoxide detector in place of just a smoke detector, since code requirements are changing for this. So, all in all, John and Steve were able to fix my problem, free up electrical outlets for carbon monoxide detectors, get my home up to code, replace the smoke detectors under warranty and only charge me labor, and get me back to enjoying a good night's sleep!
Description of Work: Steve and his team have been doing electrical work for us for over a year. Most recently, we had issues with our smoke alarms. One of them started randomly beeping in the middle of the night, disturbing my sleep. When I called Steve, John came the same day to start the troubleshooting process. They discovered that all of our smoke alarms weren't working, and the one that was beeping was operating off of its battery. John did all of the work needed to get the detectors replaced and operating again, and did so in his consistently informative, clean and professional manner.

It was a lot of little things but it improved my house quite a bit. He had given me a bid and he was on time. He was professional and definitely knew what he was talking about. I could feel the confidence in him. I thought he wouldn't be able to do the two outlets and they would be a problem. He said that it wouldn't be a problem; sure enough it wasn't and he figured out right away how to do it. I definitely will be hiring him again when I get some more money because I have a lot of other little projects for him to do.

Mike came to the house and went to work. His work was very clean and professional and he added real value by providing additional outlets, rewiring to prevent future outages and cleaning up past work (by me) that was not up to code. He also alerted me to several potential problems that could cause problems in the future and suggested some preventive maintenance. This company does great work at a reasonable price. I will call them again when I need electrical work.
Description of Work: 1. Repaired tripping GFCI in Garage. Rewired and added several GFCI's. 2. Repaired exposed Romex in Garage. 3. Replaced outdoor GFCI in front of Garage. 4. Replaced rusted GFCI in pool system used for landscape lighting. 5. Installed and added a new GFCI outlet in front of house for new landscape lighting.

Everything was perfect! I got an estimate from Steve over the phone on Tuesday and he was out at my home promptly at 9:30 Wednesday morning to do the work. The workers were polite and cleaned up well afterward. I had two other estimates and both companies told me that after installing the lights I would need to get sheetrock/texturing done on my ceiling. I was told that part would run approx. $600 - $800. Steve and his team completed the work without any need for sheetrock repair. I just need to do very minor paint touch up. Steve's price for the can installation was the least expensive as well. I love my new lights and will definitely use Steve for all my electrical needs!
Description of Work: Steve and his team installed six can lights in my home office. They also removed a ceiling light and capped it so I can install a fan at a later time. They put in a dimmer switch and grounded an outlet in this room.

Pumps require doubling up of 120V electric wires to supply 240V to each pump. Problem was that various combinations of existing wires had been mixed, even involving lights around the pool, so that no single breaker controlled a given pump, and inbalances of load would trip the breakers. Also dangerous because shutting down one breaker wouldn't insure power was completely off to work on a piece of equipment. The electrician enjoys puzzling through such complex problems and I found him to be knowledgeable and thorough. He did a great job and I'd recommend this firm to anyone. His boss (Steve) dropped by to deliver parts and they didn't charge me for them.
Description of Work: Troubleshooting/correcting an electrical fault with power to swimming pool equipment that was causing circuit breakers to trip. Partly involved an issue relating to the need for a new main filter pump, when the problem was a mystery to the pump installer also. A different pump for the pool sweep then began to trip the breaker. Policy of Co. is that a fee of $175 covers first 1-1/2 hours of troubleshooting and is applied to repairs. Repairs were successful.

I contacted four Angie's List contractors to secure estimates. Steve at Southwest Electric answered the phone when I called and came to my house within an hour to provide an estimate. Steve was punctual, professional and clearly knowledgable. His quote was under my intial estimate for the work, so I hired him on the spot and scheduled the work for 9am the next morning. Southwest Electric sent an electrician named John who was punctual, professional and communicative. I'm leased with the entire experience. I will certainly use Southwest Electric in the future - preferably the same electrician.
