GOLDEN STATE GARAGE DOORS INC

I hope to save people from frustration and annoyance by my review of this company. I got the worst customer service by any type of construction or home service provider I have had in all my 31 years of home ownership. This happened at my boyfriend's complex so we did not choose this company. They are a service provider of the complex. Here's my story. My boyfriend reported this to the complex who called Golden State Garage Door out of Santee. The scheduled service time was to arrive between 8AM and Noon yesterday. My boyfriend took his daughter to school in the car after 7 AM, just down the street, and was heading home to then go to work on his motorcycle. At 7:25 AM the doorbell rang and I answered the service call from Golden State Garage Door with one of our maintenance guys. I was unaware at this time that the service call was scheduled for after 8:00 AM. The man was very rude and abrupt from the moment I opened the door. I let the complex maintenance man in the unit to open the garage door and the man from Golden State wanted to enter through the front door with his ladder and tools. I did not go for that. This was the point that he began to seem rude. I let them in through the garage. I told him right away that my boyfriend was on his way back and was going to get the motorcycle out of the garage. Which seemed to be in the way of the work. It was positioned under the door motor that had been unconnected so that we could manually open and close the garage door.. The service guy said he was going to be 15 minutes and he started right away. My boyfriend walked in the door literally two minutes later and I told him the guy started on the garage. I was then made aware that the service call was early by 30 minutes. My boyfriend went into the garage and said he needed to move the bike out of the way and take it to work. The guy would NOT stop and wouldn't let him move it out of the garage and out of his way. He was insistent on fixing the door in under 15 minutes and not stopping what he was doing. He and by boyfriend began to argue because he wouldn't stop. He was belligerent and rude and it made me very scared and uncomfortable. I wanted to tell him to stop and leave but he was scheduled by the management company. He went so far in his belligerent arguments with us to comment about how he was living in a better place than ours as if it excuses his behavior, lack of decency and an ounce of common sense. He also proceeded to tell us we must be high on drugs asking him to stop working for a moment. He seemed like, if anything, he may have still been drunk from the night before. He was drinking a monster energy drink which may have led to his aggressiveness at 7:30 in the morning. My boyfriend ended up getting out of the garage with his bike. I did not want him to leave before the service guy. When I asked the man, he told me he was the owner of the company. I am not sure if it is true but if it is, I am surprised they are still in business. It was truly a horrible and frightening experience. If you want to feel your belongings are safe and the service man is safe, use another company. I do not recommend this one!

They said we couldn't do it and we needed a new garage door opener. He gave an estimate, over the phone, to my husband. The technician said he was going to do an industrial grade garage door opener. He explained to him what would be done. He finally decided that would be okay. Then, when he came back to do it the next day, he came in his pickup and he had two garage door openers in boxes in the back of his pickup. One said, "Industrial grade," and the other box said, "3240 or 1/2 HP." He pulled the smaller box out and I said, "Oh I thought we were getting the industrial grade one." He said, "No. That's for someone else." So, I tried to call the owner twice and did not get a call back from him. Then we just got busy. It was at a rental property and I moved on. I didn't keep trying to call him, but we still remain frustrated. Nor did they give any Angie's discount. He said, "We don't give an Angie's discount." Because we ended up calling them out to do a repair and it ended up being a replacement, I just felt they overcharged and they didn't actually put in the one they described they were going to put in. What they did worked fine, but I think it was overpriced for what they put in.

I received three price quotes for comparable garage doors and Golden State was the best value. They showed up when they said they would and they installed both doors that same day. The quality of work was good and the garage doors look great. My only comment is that the clean up job could have been better. I found a number of nuts, bolts, staples and miscellaneous debris on the garage floor. I would definitely use them again.

It was fine and the price was alright. There was no problem. There was one guy and he was quick.

The repairman gave us the estimate before work was started and noted that one spring was broken, suggested that both should probably be replaced as they were near the average estimated life based on our useage. I had researched a bit on the internet on so we did that - replaced both. He worked quickly and obviously has experience in doing this. He did a free lube and tune up, was courteous, neat, and informative about upkeep and how to avoid some common problems. Golden State Garage Doors installed the original doors and had been recommended by several HOA members in our community. They provided service in the past and we will use the in the future. Price seems fair and competitive.

I have been very happy with their service. They were great on the installation and with the repairs. Their prices are also reasonable.

From setting up the initial appointment for an estimate to first-time actuation of the newly installed garage door the process was performed with courtesy and professionalism. The estimate was performed on time. The installers showed up exactly as scheduled. Their work was fast and efficient. They cleaned up what little mess they made and hauled away all old and scrap materials. Golden State Garage Doors, Inc. was a pleasure to work with. I used them previously, about 10 years ago and will certainly retain their service in the future again when this door needs service/replacement.

I never met them but over the phone they seemed knowledgeable. They were on time and they got out there and fixed them. They billed me and although I never saw them, I have no complaint about what they did.

We began having problems with the door not closing back in Dec. 2007. We tried lubricating some parts, and adjusting what we could, but it was not enough to solve the problem (described above). When we called the company (the original installers in 2001) it was a little tough to get a visit scheduled, since they seemed quite busy, or at least didn't call back quickly. We played phone tag a few times. Eventually someone came by when I wasn't home so my mother showed them the problem. They sent an estimate, and we accepted. Once that happened, things moved much faster. They quickly found the sections we needed in the same color that matched the door. We scheduled a visit when I could be home, and the technician was right on time. He was the same one who installed the door seven years earlier. He was extremely courteous, did careful work, and showed us everything he was doing. A real joy to work with. We paid by check upon completion, and the door has worked great since.

Prompt response to my request for a free quote. Pleasant, practical salesperson who was only concerned with our needs. Not trying to sell us a more expensive alternative. He gave an all-inclusive quote and the office called as soon as a slot became available. On a cancellation. The installer arrived on time, was very efficient and completed the job in a very efficient manner. Friendly & considerate people.

Service was prompt and even ahead of schedule. The work was done for the estimated price. They wanted payment immediately after the work was performed instead within 30 days of the invoice date. Please don't be discouraged by the ratings I gave on price and quality of work as I set the bar pretty high to receive an ''A'' grade in those categories.

Brian arrived exactly on time and installed the new door and opener in just over 2 hours. He was pleasant, competent and informative. He cleaned up all installation mess completely. The door works perfectly.

QUICK TO PROVIDE ESTIMATE, AND SCHEDULE WORK. ARRIVED ON SCHEDULE WITH DOOR, AND OPENER. INSTALLATION QUICKLY, AND PROFESSIONALLY. THEY DO NOT DO ANY ELECTRICAL WORK (I.E. INSTALL OUTLET) IF NEEDED FOR OPENER.

THEY CAME OUT ON A FRIDAY, JUST A DAY OR TWO AFTER I CALLED. AFTER REPLACING THE HARDWARE AND THE KEYPAD, THEY COULDN'T GET THE OPENER TO WORK, SO THEY TRIED REPLACING JUST ABOUT EVERY PART, BUT TO NO AVAIL. THEN I GOT A CALL FROM THE OWNER MIKE SAYING THAT THE ONLY REMAINING PART TO TRY IS REALLY PRICY, SO I MIGHT AS WELL JUST GET A NEW OPENER. MIKE MADE ARRANGEMENTS TO HAVE IT DONE THE FOLLOWING DAY, A SATURDAY, EVEN THOUGH THEY DON'T USUALLY WORK ON SATURDAY'S, BECAUSE HE KNEW I WAS HAVING A TENANT MOVE IN OVER THE WEEKEND. HE THEN DEDUCTED THE COST OF THE PREVIOUS THINGS THEY HAD TRIED FROM THE BILL, EVEN THOUGH THEY SPENT A LOT OF TIME TRYING TO GET IT TO WORK AND MINIMIZE MY COST. VERY COURTEOUS, ACCOMMODATING, FAIR.

THEY WERE ON TIME, PROFESSIONAL AND EFFICIENT. WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THEM AGAIN.

THEY CAME OUT, AND EASILY REPLACED ONE SECTION RATHER THAN HAVING TO REPLACE THE DOOR. THE WORK WAS DONE QUICKLY, AND THEY EVEN RE-ALIGNED, AND GREASED THE DOOR TO MAKE IT OPERATE BETTER.

DID THE JOB IN A FEW HOURS. EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT. HAD SOME TROUBLE AFTER INSTALL. I CALLED THEM BACK FOR SERVICE AND EVERYTHING IS PERFECT AGAIN.

SHOWED UP ON TIME, VERY SKILLED, QUALITY WORK.

VERY NICE SALESMAN AND INSTALATION. REASONABLE PRICE.

I RECEIVED THE LOWEST BID FROM THIS COMPANY. THEY HAD MANY STYLES TO CHOOSE FROM AND WERE VERY FRIENDLY AND PROFESSIONAL. PRODUCT WAS DELIVERED ON TIME.

I BOUGHT A GARAGE DOOR FROM THEM, HAD IT INSTALLED AND THEN HAD THEM OUT FOR A FEW SERVICE CALLS. THIS WILL BE ABOUT THE SERVICE CALLS. AFTER OWNING THE GARAGE DOOR FOR A FEW YEARS WE HAD IT COME OFF THE TRACK. IT WAS STUCK HALFWAY DOWN AT AN ANGLE AND THE ROLLERS WERE FALLING OUT OF THE TRACK AND A SPRING WENT SHOOTING ACROSS THE GARAGE. THEY TOLD US IT WAS BECAUSE IT NEEDED TO BE SERVICED. SO WE BIT THE BULLET, PAID THE MONEY AND IN 10 MINUTES AND $75.00 LATER THEY HAD IT BACK ON THE TRACK AND 'SERVICED'. TWO MORE TIMES IN THE FOLLOWING MONTHS THIS SAME 'SERVICE' HAD TO BE PERFORMED WHEN THE GARAGE DOOR CAME OFF THE TRACK. I BEGAN TO GET SUSPICIOUS WHEN NOT ONE OF MY NEIGHBORS WHO ALL PURCHASED THEIR DOORS AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME AS US HAD EXPERIENCED THIS SAME PROBLEM AND HAD NEVER HAD THEIR DOOR 'SERVICED'. THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED, THEY SENT OUT A GUY WHO SAID THAT OUR TRACKS WERE NOT LINED UP CORRECTLY AND HE ENDED UP MOVING ONE OF THEM OVER AT LEAST AN INCH. IT SEEMS THAT THIS

INSTALLED DOOR QUICKLY & EFFICIENTLY. GOOD WORKERS.

VERY NICE AND THOROUGH. CLEANED UP THE AREA AFTER THE JOB WAS COMPLETED. ADJUSTED GARAGE DOOR OPENER TO THIS NEW DOOR.

WE FOUND THEM THROUGH A NEIGHBOR'S REFERRAL AND BECAUSE BOTH MY NEIGHBOR AND I USED THEIR COMPANY ON THE SAME DAY FOR AN INSTALLATION, WE WERE GIVEN A DISCOUNT! CAME OUT PROMPTLY FOR AN ESTIMATE; GOOD PROFESSIONAL MANNER. OFFERED DISCOUNT TO NEIGHBOR AND ME TO HAVE INSTALLATION ON SAME DAY. WHEN JOB WAS FINISHED, INSTALLER WIPED DOWN THE NEW GARAGE DOOR AND CLEANED THE WINDOWS. VERY CLEAN JOB.

THEY WERE THE LOWEST COMPETITIVE BID SUBMITTED OUT OF THREE. CALLED BEFORE COMING AND ARRIVED ON SCHEDULED TIME. THE INSTALLATION WENT SMOOTHLY AND QUICKLY (ABOUT 3 HOURS). A THOROUGH CHECK OF INSTALLATION MADE COMPLETE INSTRUCTIONS WERE LEFT WITH US.
