Do not use Ron Dorris Electric for a generator install. I had been talking to a few companies before I selected Ron Dorris to do my generator installation. Unlike the other firms, the represented that they could take care of the whole job -- electrical, permitting and gas. The other firms only wanted to do electrical. There bid was higher than the others but I assumed that was because they were doing more. I foolishly agreed to start the project before I had a copy of their contract -- it was a handshake deal. In the end, I had to hire and pay a separate plumber $1,200 to do the gas line installation (on top of Ron Dorris' high bid) and they were unable to get me a permit. It was at this point that they suggested that I read the contract that they kept failing to send me after getting my email address wrong in five separate occasions including mis-registering my generator with Generac with another typo in my email address. That error cost me 2 hours on two separate calls to sort out these issues with Generac because Ron Dorris Electric felt that the warranty registration was a customer responsibility. The final straw came on the first day the generator ran in a power outage and the oil cap came off and filled my enclosure with oil and left me in the dark. I called Ron Dorris and they said they don't service generators. They sent me to Generac. Generac gave me a local service installer (who I should have called in the first place) who asked me to send a picture. The Generac authorized dealer said it was not a warranty issue that the installer should check to see that the cap is properly tightened. Ron Dorris disagreed. They said it was a Generac issue -- so I got stuck cleaning up the mess. So if you want a bunch of cost overruns, confusing representations, problems with permitting and negative surprises after they leave, you will be happy with Ron Dorris Electric.

Description of Work: Ron put a large solar electrical system (39 panels) on our roof over 3 years ago and our PG&E bill took an immediate nose-dive. His crew of expert installers showed up on time and cleaned up every day. The price was reasonable (especially with the government rebates). System has performed flawlessly ever since. He's been a licensed contractor for over 30 years, and I found him to be honest, reliable, and very high in integrity.

Description of Work: Had Ron replace a 30 year old breaker box that was stuffed full of dangerous circuit breakers that they stopped making some time ago. He and his guys showed up on time, did exactly what they said they would do, and promptly cleaned up after themselves, too! Reasonably priced and reliable. A great experience.

Description of Work: Replace ceiling fan with a fixed hanging light. It is nearly 20 feet in my entrance hallway, they came in and replaced the fan. They cleaned up afterwards and the job went quickly, will use their service again.

I believe it was 5 years ago, January 2008, according to this invoice I have, approximately $160. Well, like I said, it has been over 5 years, and it will be almost 6 years now. But I recalled, they did what I wanted and do not recall any issues, they came out, put it in, there was no any problem, pulled you up, did it, and everything seemed fine. I guess, I can only speak of what they did for me, with some pretty simple job, they did it, price was reasonable, and they did a good job. I cannot really remember the specific but as far as I remember everything, it was fine and they did as they say they would and also get good result. I will probably use them again.
Description of Work: I used Ron Dorris Electric Inc. for electrical service. They put in this GFCI outlet.

It went fine. Levi was prompt, courteous and professional. Explained everything, did a very neat job, protected our furniure and floor from dust, and cleaned up after. No complaints.
Description of Work: Installed four recessed can lights in our home office. Changed one outlet so that it is always on and not operated by the light switch, and connected the light switch to the new recessed cans. Installed a 4 foot flourescent light bar in the office closet, as well as a wall light switch to operate it. Replaced that existing light switch with a dimmer switch. In our dining room, installed three adjustable rotating eyeball can lights and connected them to an existing light switch with dimmer.

I had already removed the ceiling mounted fixture and left the wires exposed and ready to receive the new fixture, however, the new chandelier required a new support and electrical junction box installed which drove the price up. I later had a chandelier installed by a different installer without the need for the new support/junction box addition for 1/4 the price. Granted, it was less work, but I just felt the price difference was a bit extreme. That being said, he did an excellent job, installed the bulbs and assured everything was in working order and left as clean as it was when he entered.
Description of Work: I had a chandelier installed in the kitchen. This included the installation of a junction box and support for that box.

Within 2 days of calling, Ron himself arrived relatively on time to provide me an estimate. He was very professional and detailed. He spent a great deal of time and effort measuring the unit and the space in which it was to be installed. He took copious notes and took care to explain things to me in detail. He discovered that although the cabinets were exact length required at the front of the cabinet, it was 1/8th too small in the back. He sent me a very detailed and concise estimate via email within 10 hours of being in my home. I was a bit surprised at the amount. This is my first ever estimate for electrical work and I was naive to think it would be less. I was surprised to find that it would cost at least twice the cost of the unit to install the thing. I ultimately went with a different company who were equally professional and prompt who quoted me more than $100 less.
Description of Work: Quote for installation of microwave-range hood with install of circuit and electrical outlet for the unit. Estimated cost of $651.

The technician was very polite and worked quickly, yet thoroughly. He arrived on time, and had all the tools necessary to do the work. The job was completed extremely well, and we are very happy with the results. One good thing is that they give you a fixed price per job, and that doesn't increase even if they run into difficulties and have to take more time to do the work. We compared prices on other estimates and feel that they charged fairly for the work.
Description of Work: They installed three ceiling fan/ceiling light combination units in our house.
