Santa Monica Plumbing & Heating

This guy Marco is working on my neighbors house, they are out of water so he hooks a hose up to my house to get water, without permission. At around 10 PM the house busts, shooting water all over the front yard of my neighbors front yard and the street, draining it from our property. This morning he comes to our door, insults my wife and accuses me of cutting his hose. The guy is out of his mind, he insults me threatens to punch me, asking me to step into the street so he can hit me. They are here without a city permit, use old materials that fail and have a terrible attitude. I personally, would stay far away from Marco, and Santa Monica Plumbing and Heating! None if this is a way to handle a job as a professional.

Initial consultation was fine, paid on the spot. The toilet we inherited in the house we moved into 9 months ago started running. The plumber suggested a new toilet, I agreed. He told me they get a discount at a local hardware store. I ordered a new toilet, the salespeople were completely confused about any kind of discount, had no idea what I was talking about. Not a big deal, ordered the toilet. Three guys come over and install the new toilet, I pay them that day. Caulking job looked horrible and within a day of installation the toilet is running again. I call SM plumbing & heating, they come back out, reinstall the toilet and everything is fine. They now want another payment for the additonal reinstall. Doesnt seem fair at all. They have called my cell phone countless times, sent letters to our house demanding payment. I'm hiring a lawyer. I gave them a D rating because they did eventually do the work we asked them to do, but honestly it should be an F. Cost of service below does not include the new toilet I purchased.

Angie's LIst states that they give free estimates, however when I called, I was told that they do not give free estimates and that they charge well over $100 to come and inspect the problem under the house in the crawl space. In addition, Angie's List states that they give a 10% Senior Discount, but they gave me only 5%. After checking that there wasn't dirt in the hose at the dishwasher, they agreed with me that the problem was associated with buildup of calcium deposits in the galvanized pipe under the house in the crawl space. The solution they proposed was to run copper pipe from the water heater to the dishwasher and remove the old galvanized pipe for $925, based on 4 hours labor for two men at $150 per hour. I agreed to go ahead and the Dishwasher now loads enough water to wash and rinse the dishes. I can't comment on the quality of the work, since it is all under the house and I am getting too old to crawl under and inspect it. The two men who did the work arrived on time and were polite, clean and friendly.

That seemed pretty good. We have had them out a couple of times. They are reliable, punctual and i got the feeling they were honest.

Great. This was my first experience with them. My normal plumber won't go near a wall mounted toilet. Manny showed up on time. Within minutes, he diagnosed the problem. It was the pump. He explained how the wall mounted toilets operate. He was very knowledgable and managed to fix it by taking out the pump and readjusting it. I couldn't be happier.

Nora (dispatcher) made an appointment for me between 1:00PM and 3:00PM. She called back to say that Manny and Rogelio were running about an hour late and would be here sometime before 4:00PM. I was glad that they arrived early at 2:00PM. Manny and Rogelio were patient and attentive in answering all of my questions and concerns. Manny and Rogelio and Nora were all professional and responsive. Marco and Manny had done work for me three times before. The work has always been quality work. I hope that Marco (the owner of Santa Monica Plumbing and Heating)) realizes that he is lucky to have all of them as employees.

Marco was terrific. We called on a Saturday morning and he was at our house by 2p.m. He originally thought it would be one but as soon as he realized it would take a little longer to get to us, he texted me to make sure the later time would work. Best if all, he diagnosed the problem very quickly, gave me a verbal quote and had EVERYTHING he needed with him to do the job. It took just under an hour. We were so glad that he fixed it so quickly and we didn't have to pay extra even though it was a Saturday and a holiday weekend (there were a couple of other plumbers who were charging a lot more, or couldn't give me any idea of the fee and couldn't get here till much later). They charge a service fee of $95 + parts and additional labor. We were so happy that the problem was fixed without any water damage to our unit or the one below! And he gave us a coupon to use towards today's service. Awesome. Marco was very polite, professional and definitely knows his stuff! I would definitely recommend him.

My complaint is with the manager Marco. He attempted to charge me double, ie, same amount for a one-man, less than one hour finish-up of the previous day's work. The bill for day #1 was $225.00 and had required two men and approximately 2.5 hours. The technician was unable to complete the job on day #1 and said he would return the next morning to finish up. Apparently the manager tells the technician what to charge, and I was told my bill was the same as the previous day. I spoke to Marco and objected to the bill, The bill for the second day was then reduced to $185.00 I paid the bill, but strongly feel I should only have been charged for price of stems and a one-man one hour trip. I was happy with the quality of work, but not the honesty of the manager.

The work was done a lot faster than we thought it would be. Everything went smoothly, and all the plumbers on site were excellent.

Homeowner's worst nightmare. I discovered a sewage leak in the crawlspace beneath our house... on a Saturday. I called Santa Monica Plumbing. Someone came out within an hour. He took a look under the house, and immediately identified the problem: a cap had popped off of one of the pipes and then a clog further along in the line had caused a back flow of sewage into the crawlspace. He ran a cleaner through the pipe and removed the blockage, then he capped the pipe. All said and done, within three hours of discovering the problem, it had been fixed... and on a Saturday. That's pretty good in my book. The service was great. Professional, friendly and prompt (when it really counted). Thanks so much, Santa Monica Plumbing!

I originally found Santa Monica Plumbing with the BBB where they has a AAA rating. It was borne out by the service they provided. I have used them three times. First, I had a leaky faucet in the bathroom and needed my washer drain snaked out. The washer drain was particularly challenging because of the tight space, but the plumber was very adept, patient, and professional in handling a very challenging access situation. I had them back to install a power flush toilet. That was several years ago. It's worked without a hitch since then. They removed the old toilet too. (I may have paid extra, can't remember). Just last month I had another leaky faucet and sink in my newly remodeled kitchen. Once again there was a challenging access situation with the faucet, but the plumber, Marco this time, did the work without complaint or overcharging. My garbage disposal stopped working. He was able to fix that as well. He had to go to his truck and luckily had a standard part and replaced a section of the sink drain. I am on the board of our HOA and have dealt with several other plumbers on other jobs in other units. SM Plumbing prices were very low but the work of the highest quality. I was surprised that they were not rated here. Definitely an A. Will use them again.

They were really good. I liked everything about them. The way they just handled things was kind of unique. They gave me all the steps that they can do, where it's going to go. They made some good suggestion and listen to me as a good customer. Finally when all the dust settled, they gave me a diagram where this thing is going to be placed as far as where the heating and air conditioning is going to be with all the ducting as well as other things. They gave me a picture and just let me study it; so nothing was high pressure. I took deliberately of checking out the gutters and all were pretty much comfortably placed. When the technicians actually came out; they did an exceptional job. They did not cut corners; so everything was neat and clean. The house inside was not dirty and they did a fantastic job. I still have all their names. I was brought up in 21st century and I had wall heaters. The insurance company was not insuring the house with wall heaters; unless if I'm willing to pay high premium because they are kind of fire hazard. The price was competitive.

We called Santa Monica Plumbing to get an estimate on several plumbing issues we had in our new house. Marco came out to give us a bid. His prices were 3 times the amount of the other two bids that we got, and for no reason. We showed him the other bids and showed that they were in Santa Monica and reputable as well. Instead of him explaining why his price was higher, he got defensive, and told him to go with one of them and that he didn't want the job. When he first arrived, he seemed nice - then when I told him there were other bids....he freaked out and was extremely rude. I would never use them or feel comfortable recommending them to anyone.

They take care of everything! They are awesome!
