This project was on-time, on-budget and exceeded our expectations for quality. Also, over the course of the last 5 years, Julius has provided thoughtful advice, exceptional performance and very low rates. Julius is motivated primarily by the challenge of solving problems and foreseeing issues in the most practical and effective manner. I hold Julius in the highest regard, trust him implicitly and recommend him without reservation. I wish I was as good at my job as he is at his.
Description of Work: We did some extensive work in our home including the removal of an odd sized external door and reinstallation of standard sized door, improvements to ceiling in the doorway, work on the walls adjacent to door, installation of a built-in cabinet in entry way and countertop. This required stucco work externally as well. At the same time, we installed a new sink and hung several heavy objects including a mirror and new shelves. Julius planned and handled all these tasks.

How'd it go? Things can be quick, well done, or not expensive. Generally you get get 1 maybe 2 of the 3. But I think I got all 3 with Julius. He helped me pick the type of blinds for each room, the cost differences, the which would look better in each room. He helped trim my lemon tree, fix 2 furniture pieces & 3 electrical outlets – all with a high level of integrity. He was upfront and honest on cost of labor & materials and I sincerely recommend him for any home install or repair needs.
Description of Work: In-window blinds installation, landscaping, furniture repair, and general home repairs & consultation.

Description of Work: Never called back

Response from Master Handyman
Dear Angie Hicks, Mar 30, 2017 I understanding almost every state in the USA have statutes defining a contract to be Offer, Acceptance & Consideration. What baffles me is that somehow this does not apply to Angie's List in reference to the [Member Name Removed] 4-22-16 review? Offer: I never gave a verbal or written offer to do work for the [Member Name Removed] Acceptance: Obviously it was NOT possible for the [Member Name Removed] to accept any possible offer because they say I never returned their initial phone call to solicit me. Consideration: Last, I never received, nor does [Member Name Removed] state, that they gave me consideration (eg cash, check). Yes, if a trade person actually does bad work, they should get a bad review. Yet, the [Member Name Removed] is able to give an "F" review with NO contract of any kind. This ability to leave the worst grade possible (F) when no work has been proposed, no work has been accepted & no work finished appears to be either a scam or glitch by Angie's List? Kind of interesting as most people on social media think Angie's List is there to help consumers from scams, not perpetuate scams! In specific, how do we know this was not a scam by a competitor of mine? What if the "[Member Name Removed] definition of "Never called back" is 45 minutes? What if my cell phone sits protected in my truck for ten hours while I am digging under a house, then the "[Member Name Removed] is able to give an "F" review in less than an hour? Really? Clearly a 50 million dollar payout for Angie Hicks is a big payday for most people. Hopefully Ms. Hicks still has time for the "little" people who helped her build a company so she could collect on the offer, acceptance & consideration of a such big payday. We can only hope she have time to nix this [Member Name Removed] 4-22-16 review from my listing. Also, I hope Angie's List fixes this issue for all service providers. If this review can not be nixed, I would appreciate if you would NOT list my services at all. Master Handyman SPID: 2198960

A complete nightmare and drama. Cost way more than it should have. Total thug and scoundrel. He was hired to change out a dishwasher for a new one...along with repair some minor water damage. He low bid the change out of the dishwasher to get the job and gave no bid on the water damage situation....which made sense I thought at the time. But, should have given a bid once he got a sense of it. However, he insisted i be there whenever he was working and kept up selling throughout...to crank the price. Kept spotting things that in his opinion needed to be fixed. He then broke the faucet handle on top of the water heater. and recommended his friend fix it who is a plumber. That cost another $125 and when the job was done hooking up the dishwasher I discovered the garbage disposal was broken. He insisted I replace it with a 1 1/4 horse power one instead of a 1/3 horse power one....which was odd.He then wanted me to meet him the next day to pay him....hadn't given me a total yet or itemized bill. I said no...that I had to sort it out and I hired someone else recommended to replace the disposal which cost another $200. As I was trying to get the disposal fixed and sort out the bill and the work to pay him and his friend...they began calling and emailing me. Trying to bully and threaten me with a law suit and a lean on my property. I sorted it out with the help of a reputable plumber. But, the whole experience was bizarre. I would NEVER let this person in my home again. This will never happen again. Lesson learned. Don't think he is licensed or bonded. Oh and it is a rental property and the plumber friend spent time with the tenant and changed out the shower head without my knowing or okaying it. The fee was tacked onto the hourly fee I paid him.

Response from Master Handyman
It is my concerted opinion that she has years of deferred maintenance and below average quality work done by the previous workers on this rental house. However, she is an acting instructor and insists her rental house is in pristine shape, thus the real drama. This house had significant water damage, mold, bug infestation & rodent infestation under the kitchen sink and behind the stove. I worked over three days to cure this so called “minor water damage” issue. I did not charge her my 2 hour minimum on 2 days because she said she had money problems. I shut off the hot water to install the dishwasher. When done, the old, “multi-turn” valve, crammed with 30+/- years of mineral deposits, wouldn’t turn back on. I took it apart & made a temporary repair, but suggested the old “multi-turn” valve be replaced with a more durable ¼ turn valve. She said she had bad experiences with the last 3 plumbers, so I suggested a plumber I knew and trusted. While I was present, she talked to him directly and said she wanted the work done the next morning (Saturday) and would meet him. On Saturday morning, I let the plumber in because she had not arrived. Because of the tenant’s pleas, the plumber installed a new ¼ turn cut-off valve and new flex supply line at the hot water heater. This plumbing repair ended the tenant’s complaints of low water pressure and he completed his bill. While waiting for her, the plumber gave the tenant a new shower head without charge & without permission. He handed me his bill to give to her and left. The plumber did not have permission because she never showed up to meet him as she agreed. Instead she failed to pay his $125 bill (labor & materials) for 2 weeks. While at the house, the plumber told me the current 1/3 horsepower garbage disposal was old & underpowered. He said Costco had a 1 ¼ horsepower unit for $100. I don’t know why the 14 year old, 1/3 horsepower garbage disposal didn’t work, but since I “touched it” I offered a $40 credit off my bill or my free labor on the installation of a new garbage disposal. Instead she demanded, and took $200 off my $375 bill (labor & materials), while having a new 1/3 horsepower disposal installed for her tenant?

Very well--please see above.
Description of Work: Julius has been fantastic to work with, and I highly recommend him. In fact, I am continuing to use him for multiple projects in a newly purchased house in Santa Monica, as his knowledge base is vast, he is more than willing to share tips, and he has been extremely professional and helpful in working with other folks (e.g. electricians, painters). To date, I have used him to remove a bunch of built in shelves, replane a door and lay new slate tile in my office. It looks great.

I thought the price was fair. I was very pleased with his work. He got me in on short notice when he had another big job the next day and he still committed to doing that because I flew in to over see it. He was there on time, he was fantastic, he got all the work done that needed to get accomplished, and I couldn't say enough good things about him. I had no problem scheduling him to come out, he was very accommodating. I think that anyone would be lucky to have him do their work.
Description of Work: He replaced an exhaust hood over the stove, installed the new stove, did some caulking in the kitchen, did some painting, replaced some outlets, and sealed up areas in the kitchen where there had been a leak.
