He responded the same day and showed up the next day, with sketches and a bid a day later. Two weeks later, we have a fabulous set of bookcases with a sort of "window seat" under the window! [All that he does not do is the painting of them, for which I have someone else]. I could not be more pleased. He is a true craftsman, attending to every detail to make them "fit" into the space of a 1928 house with floors and windows that are not quite "level."
Description of Work: I needed a full wall of bookcases floor to ceiling (with a window in the middle).

The quality of his work is outstanding. He was very easy to work with, and he collaborated with us from the beginning to decide on all the details. The job was done quickly with most of the work done in two days. The result was exactly as we envisioned. The quality of the work is easily visible. He was also able to recommend someone to finish the wood which we will be doing very soon. I highly recommend David.
Description of Work: David Gluck built a custom made red oak wood bookcase for my family room. Approximately size is 80" by 90". It has adjustable shelves, and a storage section with doors. A few years ago, we built a second story on our house. The bookcase is located in a new part of the house. David had to deal with a slightly uneven soffit above the books case, and a slightly uneven floor. Even with this challenge, David built a perfect looking bookcase that fit perfectly under the soffit.

As usual, David came out and did an excellent job. We have since repainted and you cannot even tell there was a repair done. He also noticed that some trim was coming off my garage window so he fixed that too. At this point, I wouldn't consider anyone else to work on my house. David is very easy going, so working with him never causes me a moment of stress. He shows up when he says he will, gets the job done when he says it will be done (unless I throw something else at him) and his prices are more than fair. I have been taken advantage of by workers in the past. I stress out whenever I have to hire someone to do work at my house because of it. David is one of the few professionals out there that I completely trust to do great work and treat me honestly. I have recommended him to family and friends and they have all been really happy with his work.
Description of Work: I had an electric panel moved from one side of my house to another. The work created holes in the stucco where to old meter was. So I decided to have all the cracks around the house fixed, inside and out. Also had my front door threshold fixed. (water damage from sprinklers).

David did a good job. The existing and the cabinet he made matched together very well and no one will notice that they were two different cabinets.
Description of Work: He had to extend the existing cabinet under the counter top of a bathroom sink. He had to design and make a two door cabinet to fit an existing cabinet. He brought the shop tools to the condo of a high rise building in Wilshire corridor. The marble counter top was long enough to cut an additional sink and adding cabinet under the second sink. The job was complicated. David did a good job and he demonstrated his professionalism and his skills in handling complex jobs.

I really can't believe anyone would say this about me. I did miss our appointment, but it's not at all my habit at all do that. I was busy that morning (not with work) and I simply forgot. When I checked my calendar and saw my mistake I called immediately to apologize and reschedule. They didn't call me back and instead they posted this review. It would be nice to be perfect. I agree that this was a mistake on my part, and I tried my best to make good on it. Again, I apologized, All I got was a voicemail and I expected a call back. When they didn't call me back I just figured I had blown it. I was interested in the job and I have no good excuse for not checking my calendar. But again, this is not how I treat potential clients and I felt awful about missing the appointment. Had they called me back, I might have had a chance at explaining myself, or at least offering my apology to a real live person and not to an answering machine. As for "finding it difficult to set up an appointment" we both had conflicting schedules and I did my best to find a time that would work for the both of us. I understand that making plans around an appointment and having a no show can mess up a potential clients own schedule and is rude. I suppose I get the anger, but how many no shows call back to apologize and try to reschedule? I really do regret how this went down, and I think this review is unfair to me. This review does not reflect who I am or how I conduct my business. I simply made a mistake is all.

David was wonderful at explaining the process, what would be required, and how long the work would take, as well as possible pitfalls.
Description of Work: David put my kitchen back together following an unplanned demolition caused by a leak. He managed to figure out how to salvage all the pieces and put them back together, and managed to make it all look even better than before he'd started.

David Gluck built a two-door cabinet and installed it over the range and fridge; he mounted a new vent to the bottom. The wood (poplar and alder or maple) turned out to be so nice that we decided not to paint it like our existing cabinets but to have it varnished. The warm hues of the wood go beautiful with the stainless steel of the hood. The new cabinet blends in perfectly with our old kitchen cabinets and their rounded door edges. Although our wall is surprisingly crooked David managed to install the straight cabinet with the hood underneath without gaps. Conceived as an afterthought, the cabinet turned out to be a pleasant piece of craftsmanship.
Description of Work: Built and installed overhead cabinet in kitchen; installed vent and vent flex hose.

David Gluck was very professional - he reviewed my cabinet requirement and referred me to several other providers who were better equipped to handle my special need. The referral worked out wonderfully. Anderson Plywood on Sepulveda Blvd in Culver City provided an excellent larger cabinet door reproduction at a very low cost. .

I needed the cabinets removed at short notice. I called David yesterday afternoon. He came by within the hour to assess, and agreed to do the work today. Less than 24 hours after my initial call, the job was complete, and the cabinets look great in their new location. David and his helper worked quietly and efficiently, and left the area clean.
Description of Work: David took apart some custom-built cabinets that I no longer wanted in my family room and reassembled them in the garage.

David came out to measure the spaces and we talked about the design of the bookshelves. He was very knowledgeable and happy to fit the plans to my specifications and taste. A few days later he called with an estimate for the work which was a fair price. The following week he and a helper came out to install the bookshelves and the shelves in the laundry room. That was completed in 2 days and came out really well. I was very pleased with the look of the shelves and feel that it really made the room much nicer. So I got exactly what I wanted at a fair price. Daivd is very easy going and nice to work with. He has a good sense of humor as well. I really enjoyed the experience, and would use David again. He has good attention to detail and makes sure that every thing is done just right without cutting corners.
Description of Work: I hired David to construct a large built-in bookcase, 8 feet tall with 7 shelves. He also installed two shelves in my laundry room.

The cabinet is beautiful, highly functional, and an excellent addition to or house. I will provide photos soon, but I don't know how yet. I also found David interesting and very enjoyable to talk with. (Note: I actually got David Gluck's referral from a friend who found him through Angie's List. I was so happy with the work that I joined Angie's List and entered this review after the fact.)

Overall, it went great. My best friend did her kitchen a year before I did mine. Hers was a Home Depot job. She paid as much as I did, but did not get the same quality of workmanship that I got. In fact, she often says she wishes she had hired David to do her kitchen. I often hear stories of contractors that over charge, and don't show up. Who hire sub-contractors that are unreliable and do sloppy work. I cannot relate to these stories. David showed up every day. He built most of the cabinets in my garage. He did build some at his home, and brought them over but I think that was due to the size of the cabinet. I originally found David because he had done some work as a sub-contractor at my parents home a number of years earlier and he did some nice work there. He saved some beautiful french windows that had been ruined by the previous owner of their home. I remembered him when it came time to work on my house. I was lucky to find him. David is reliable, and really talented. His finish work is beautiful. No one comes to my house that doesn't comment on how beautiful my kitchen is. I know he has gotten work from that alone but then they find out how easy he is to work with and they thank me again. He shows up every day and he takes a lot of pride in his work. This is what makes him so good. He never leaves things with a and quot;that will doand quot; attitude. When he is done...you have a complete and beautiful job. One last note....his prices are very fair. I priced a lot of kitchens before I hired him. I got way more than I would have with anyone else.
Description of Work: The first time I hired David, was to insulate my family room. This room had been an ad on from the prior owner but had old windows that let hot air in in the summer and cold air in in the winter. Also, The ceiling was the roof, so by 2pm in the summer you would bake in there. David took out the old windows and put in dual pain energy saving windows. No easy trick since the 3 windows are 3'6" wide and 6' tall. He then put up a solid insulation on the ceiling and created a new ceiling with a higher insulation factor than I would have gotten if I had a space to blow in insulation, which I didn't. The room is perfect now. Its our T.V. room so we are in it all the time. The next time I hired David was to completely re-do my kitchen. I was on a tight budget but didn't want particle board cabinets with veneers..I wanted real wood cabinets. This was difficult to find, so I hired David to build my kitchen from the ground up. He gutted the kitchen and completely reworked the space. What was a non-functioning waste of space became wonderful counters, cabinets and more storage that I ever hoped for. He has a real gift for utilizing available space. My kitchen is "L" shaped and had a beam in the middle that divided the space. He put in a new header and got rid of the ugly beam. My cabinets are so beautiful, I get complements on them all the time. We worked together so well, that I never had to worry that he would do something I didn't like. He extended a wall to build me a wonderful slide out spice rack, the glides on my drawers are effortless, and many of my cabinets slide out for easy access. The crown molding is a fabulous finish. David's sub-contractors were really wonderful...especially the tile man. I have a combination of granite and porcelain counters and back-splash that is just beautiful. The third time I hired him was to re-do my master bath. The original bathroom was so ugly, I would often compare it to a gas station bathroom. Again, he completely worked that space into a beautiful master bath...and at the same time he created a walk in closet and a media center for the master bedroom. All built in to save space. My house is old and the rooms are small, so creating usable storage and closet space was difficult. He transformed both spaces. My bathroom had a really small shower which he made much larger. The cabinets are beautiful and really well thought out...he more than tripled my storage space. I trusted David with my house so much, that I gave him a key and went on a cruise. We kept in touch by e-mail. But I wasn't worried about a thing. He proved me right. I was delighted when I got home. The closet is great...the media center looks like a piece of furniture that was built into the wall and the bath is elegant and functional. Exactly what I wanted. Since then I have hired David to do many jobs at my house. He turned a closet around in a room that my mom was moving into so she would have more closet space and put in sliding doors, He built a gazebo in my backyard so I would have a conversation area, he also put in the crown and base molding in my living room....beautiful job. He has repaired my gates and put in a new back door and repaired my threshold. He also replaced my front door and side glass. The price I listed above was just for my kitchen, but David understands what a budget is. He helped me make decisions on each job on how to best stay on budget. I work for a living so this is very important.
