After reading many wonderful reviews, we chose One Percent Broker to help us buy our first home. The professionalism, the kindness, the expertise and the patience with us was amazing! Hugh helped us through our entire process, he explained everything to us, he eased our stress when we needed it and was always available to us. They have an amazing business model that you can read about on their website, please check it out! I would recommend this company to anyone looking to buy a home. We trust Hugh, we enjoyed working with him and appreciated his ridiculous work ethic. All companies should be run as well and by such great people as One Percent Broker.

They were good people and they were very responsive.  They made time to show us the houses with no question asked and no problem.  They got the deal closed well.  They were excellent and we would use them again.  It was a very good price.

I recommend Hugh without reservation. We would not buy a home with anyone else.

This review is long overdue.  My husband and I began our home search process in Nov. 2011 and took us nearly a year to find our first home.  We thought we could tackle the project independently at first, only to realize that we had no time to deal with the document process while juggling a 1 yr old and working FT.  Enter Hugh and Alan.  My husband found them on a different search engine aside from Angie's List, but it made no difference to us, their review were no less stellar.  In my effort to make a long story short (because Hugh and Alan know how I can be verbose; I was nominated for their Client Hall of Fame, which I've coined Hall of Shame), we put in offers on 4-5 different houses, were repeatedly out-bid, not attributable to Hugh/Alan at all, and in one instance, the listing agent was completely unprofessional and refused to respond to our inquiries.  Needless to say, we were extremely unmotivated to proceed by the time we were submitting on our last offer, but each time, Hugh/Alan were very understanding and encouraging.  Hugh and Alan were very patient in dealing with us, as I am dogmatic and placed infinite calls/emails to them, they responded to all of our inquiries at all hours of the day and night.  Hugh was also sending us emails about Angie's List deals and trying to save money for us all the time, which was extremely considerate and really unheard of.  When we finally did get an offer accepted on a house, Hugh and Alan stepped up and coordinated nearly everything for us and making sure everyone kept to the timeline.  We also owe it to Hugh for his recommendation to our loan agent/lender who gave us a very competitive rate, making the entire process as smooth and effortless as possible.  If we had to do this all over again, which I'm sure we will, we're definitely calling on Hugh and Alan again without any hesitation.  We're so glad we found them, had them on our side, and will recommend them to our friends/family or any buyer in a heartbeat!

We have found working with realtors to be a frustrating experience. Then we found Hugh! He was the utmost professional. He helped us negotiate a bidding war on our original home. He stuck by us during our long home search and long negotiation. All the while, he was prompt in responding to us and made document signing easy from a distance. We have found Hugh's strategizing to be top notch, he provided creative solutions to problems, and he gave us guidance on handling everything from inspections to requests for repair. His assistant, Donald, was always polite and helpful. We highly recommend him for anyone who wants a professional real estate broker who saves you money to put towards your new home.

Hugh was simply fantastic to deal with. As someone unfamiliar with the house buying process in the US, he was extremely patient and professional at all times.

I cannot stress enough how much I would recommend him to you for your home purchase. Hugh was fantastic at always helping us understand exactly what we needed to know without just telling us what we wanted to hear. He was straight forward, patient, smart and aggressive (in a good way to make sure our deal was always moving forward). He would answer all our phone calls and reply to emails within minutes. We were first time home buyers and had a very complicated purchase. Hugh truly stepped up and made it happen. without him, I honestly believe we would not be writing this yelp review in our wonderful new home.  
Lastly...and this is a big one...he made fantastic recommendations for companies we could use for inspections and specialists. I know most people say not to just go with the inspectors etc that your agent recommends, but we trusted Hugh right away and enough to take his advice, and it paid off by helping the process continue moving forward (I will should perhaps write separate reviews for those companies as well!). I want to make it clear that he in no way pressured us to use his contacts, but we were happy to have the guidance of someone who has been through this process many many times before.  
The fact that he only charged 1% is UNREAL. It helped us out in such a big way, and we are so grateful to have found him. It sounds too good to be true, but it is real, people. Thanks, Hugh

Sarah Siegel of One Percent Broker did an outstanding job ushering us through a very tricky purchase. She quickly responded to questions and explained every step of the process. Hugh Borax was also instrumental in our getting our escrow closed, and we closed early! I would absolutely recommend using their services to anyone buying a home.

This was our first time buying a house, and it was by all accounts a VERY unconventional short sale.  Hugh and Sarah were very patient and coolheaded, and helped us through every step of an increasingly labyrinthine and stress-inducing process.  Add to this the money we saved, and I cannot imagine having a better experience.  There were many points where this deal could have fallen apart, and in another broker's hands, it may very well have.  We cannot recommend Hugh and Sarah enough.

Hugh is truly a stand out in his field.  You may have encountered real estate agents who appear to be sitting at home eating bonbons and getting paid exorbitant amounts at the end of the deal, and you may wonder how you could possible get any service from an agent who will get paid one-third the amount.  It may seem too good to be true, but I promise: you will get better service than you can find anywhere else, and also save a large chunk of change.  
This is, of course, if you want to use redfin or other resources to do your own searching and screening and take advantage of open houses, and rely on Hugh to get you into places without open houses and to write offers and get you through the purchase process.
He is an excellent communicator, a hard worker, and tailors his style to meet each client's individual needs.  He will get back to you immediately at any time of the day or night with a clear and concise answer.  He will use whichever communication medium (email, phone, text) works best for you and will give you as much or as little of his professional opinion as you want.

We were very impressed with Hugh Borax throughout our entire experience with him, from our initial meeting to receiving our rebate check after closing.  We bought a home after a nine-month search and Hugh was very patient with us.  Having purchase two other homes in the past 12 years and worked with two other buyer's agents, we can say that Hugh was the best broker/agent we've ever worked with. There are several things that made Hugh an ideal broker.  He is very experienced and provided thoughtful, incisive, and astute advice, without being overbearing or placing his self-interest above ours.  Over those many months, there were a couple of houses we had considered making offers on that required Hugh to get information from the seller's agent and do associated work.  When we decided against making an offer, he didn't pressure us or behave in the least bit annoyed.  Similarly, Hugh recommended a great home inspector, who was extremely thorough, having exceptionally high standards, taking over four hours to complete a very detailed inspection.  Some brokers/agents may want hurry a client to make an offer or recommend a home inspector who would find the fewest possible deficiencies in the home, reducing the chance of the sale falling through, but not Hugh.  Through these and many similar experiences, Hugh made us feel as though he was looking out for our interests above all else. All of our interactions with Hugh -- phone calls, emails, discussions -- were very professional.  He has the mindset of a business person handling a business deal, while at the same time being very friendly and down to earth.  Hugh went out of his way to be accessible to us, even when he was out of town.  Our calls/emails were returned/responded to right away. We also appreciated Hugh being detailed-oriented.  Coming from two Type A Ph.Ds., that's saying a lot.  He followed up and followed through when he said he would, and never showed annoyance with us when we butted in when he already had the situation in hand. Our two previous buyer's agents were full-commission professionals.  I would rate Hugh's service to us as the best of the three, and our substantial savings on commission was icing on the cake.  We will highly recommend Hugh to our friends and family and know that he will do a great job for them.  When we buy or sell our next home, we won't hesitate to use Hugh's services again.

Hugh is an excellent realtor who is kind, intelligent and extremely helpful with our first house purchase. He was always available for questions and guidance during very challenging and stressful negotiations and never pressuring us into making decisions, but instead gave balanced and thoughtful points of view. I can't imagine a more dedicated and caring realtor, whether full service or not.
