It started off well enough. This company came highly recommended. Paul, the owner, came out with his father, Richard, to estimate the job. Paul was clearly in charge, and he gave us a reasonable bid. We set a start date and he assured us the job would take 3 visits and would be completed within the week. The first float went very well. Then they scheduled other jobs around us and they could not get back within a couple of days. This happened after I had cleared my calendar to be here. After re-juggling our own work schedules, we finally settled on a follow-up date for the second float. I had Richard's assurance that the crew would be here no later than 8:00 AM. My husband called Paul to remind him that his crew needed to arrive at 8:00 because I had to leave mid-morning. By 9:00 AM, they had not shown. I called Paul and got his voicemail. Now what? I rescheduled my own appointment because they were making me late. In hindsight, I should have cancelled the drywallers, but as a homeowner you want the job finished so you can get your house back to normal. At about 9:25 AM, the 2 workers showed up. They had no idea they were late, and to make matters worse they forgot their ladder and wanted to borrow ours. (No, we didn't have one but even if we did I don't need to test my homeowner's liability policy.) They called Richard to bring them one. That took another 30 minutes. Richard finally showed up, surly and in my face from the moment he arrived. When I told him that I had to reschedule my own appointments because his crew showed up late and unprepared, he said, and quot;Hey, sh*t happens!and quot; I'm not a priss, but I don't appreciate that kind of disrespect or foul language. I called my husband and he said, and quot;Fire them now. Just tell them to leave or put them on the phone and I will.and quot; I went upstairs to do just that, and then we decided we couldn't because they had already started to float the lower part of the walls. Eventually, I had to call my client again and cancel. As a self-employed person, this costs me money and reputation. By now I was steamed. I reminded Richard that he had personally promised me he would arrive at 8:00 AM, and that I planned my own work around that promise. I told him his word meant nothing. He said, and quot; You don't have to be home for us to do the job. Most people just leave us a key. What - are you afraid we're going to steal from you?and quot; Wow. What an amazing lack of professionalism. He said, and quot;I'm from the old school. It's the trades. We get here when we can.and quot; He went upstairs for a long time with his 2 guys, and when my husband came home he told me that someone urinated in our master bathroom without lifting the toilet seat. That was certainly meant to convey a message! The sad part is that they did a pretty good job. Paul took over the business and built a fine reputation. He seems to be a hardworking decent guy. His two workers were pleasant enough. Dad has problems, though. He reminds you that he owned it for 35 years and he doesn't need any customers. The best thing Paul can do for his future is keep his father away from the job site. They bid two rooms, but after our experience with the first one we won't be having this company come back.

Paul was great. I first called him in Spring of 2012. He came out promptly and worked very hard to get me all the information I needed to make a sound decision. He bent over backwards. It took me 18 months before I took him up on the quote. The crew came on time, were very efficient and clean. I was impressed.
Description of Work: rip out drywall for two bedroom walls, put in safe and sound installation and Quietrock drywall. In one wall they also added RC channels.

My overall experience with Santa Maria Drywall was outstanding. They provided a very professional result and a high quality workmanship product. They were punctual , cleaned up all debris and completed the job on time and on budget. First , after I called Mr. Paul Santana , he showed up at the requested time and generated a quote within a day or so. Once we agreed , the job was started on time. Paul was very pleasant in calling and verifying his arrival time. They installed the drywall on several walls and the ceiling including cutouts for the down lighting. The crew were and quot;master measure'sand quot; because the numerus ceiling cutouts were near perfect. The job was inspected by the SLO city inspector. The inspector was impressed of how there were only one or two extra holes in the drywall. The inspector politely implied that there was no way the home-owner did this job. It was just too good! The crew completed the tape and texturing of the job. This included a difficult match to some existing knock down. Without me asking the crew, an addtional patch for a removed light switch was done. What impressed me was that the crew took the iniative in patching something that they was technically not in the original quote. So in summary, the job was excellent and I would recommend Paul and his crew for drywall work. They were courteous , professional and punctual.
Description of Work: Paul and his crew installed drywall on a new roughed out basement bathroom and hallway. The crew installed new drywall on the walls and the ceilings. The finished drywall was then textured . There was both new and matching texture. The job was completed and paint ready.

The crew was extremely professional and left no mess behind after completion of work. They also worked fast and the quality of work was great. They were also very punctual.
Description of Work: We had 1 room, Bathroom, and hallway retextured (ceilings included). The bathroom had the drywall hung previously and SM Drywall came in patched, taped and textured the bathroom. Backerboard was also hung in the shower alcove. The texture was a skim coat with a final skip coat.

We've used Santa Maria Drywall in the past and invited them to bid on this project. We gave them the job and shortly thereafter they scheduled the work. They showed up on schedule, masked off the house and proceeded to do their work. The end product is exceptional and we couldn't be happier. Paul and his Dad, Richard, personally oversee the workers. I think this may be the third job they've done for us and all met or exceeded our expectations.
Description of Work: We had popcorn (acoustic) ceilings in four bedrooms and living room which were probably original on this house (circa 1960) and needed to be replaced. Their team came in and scrapped the ceilings, reinforced the panels to the joists, skim-coated and textured using a skip technique. Now the ceilings are bright and modern-looking.

They came at about 8am on my day off, worked for about 3 hours, and then we made plans for him to return to finish it up as it needed time to dry for the final texture coat. He came exactly on time, as promised, finished up, cleaned up after himself, didn't ask for anything ( like some handymen want to use the bathroom, need a drink of water etc.) and was done in about 3 hours. Very happy with the job.
Description of Work: They repaired two areas in my house: one in my garage ceiling, and the other in a bathroom wall. Both jobs required more labor than anything. I had had 4 other estimates and all others never returned to do the job, so I was very happy with their efforts. They did the job exactly like I wanted, and like he said he would, which was " you won't know there was ever a problem" and its true. I can't tell. Great job!!

Richard came out and provided a bid and about three weeks later I gave them the okay. A time was scheduled and Richard and crew arrived accordingly. This job takes a few days with drying, etc. and Richard with crew followed-up and got the job done on schedule. Finished product was professional and gorgeous. This is the second time I used Santa Maria Drywall and I continue to be a fan.

Paul's team arrived on schedule and working a few hours a day for three consecutive days (compound needs a day to dry between applications) the work was completed on schedule and the quality exceeded our expectations. His team was professional, conscientious, careful and clean. I'm extremely satisfied with my first experience with this company.
Description of Work: We did repairs in several rooms and needed the drywall that we installed finished (cover seams, screws and unwanted texture). This included a small bathroom and various surfaces in two other rooms.
