We have used Ken a number of times for minor and major projects, including building a brand new spec house. Our experience has been excellent. His work is solid, timely and beautiful. Projects - especially remodels - do not always go as planned, and unexpected delays and costs can occur but I've found that Ken's eye for design, efficiency and, most importantly to me, his emphasis on structural integrity are key to our successful projects. As far as cost, my impression is that it is competitive but I cannot comment since I've gotten to the point that I know what things cost and haven't bothered with other bids.

The $60,000 contract did not meet the 12 standard for consumer protection required for a "home improvement contract". The contract time period in the contract had been 3-months. The demolition was immediate and efficient. Construction went slowly with many set backs and re-do work, think of everything done twice. After 8 months we cancelled the contract, base amount essentially paid but base work very incomplete. We since have had the floors refinished professionally, the new sink sealed and caulked, the counter-top fused. KP Construction also failed to pay the electrical sub-contractor, Westside Electric, and he used that failure against us to win a binding arbitration. Arbitrators may be arbitrary, and everyone could agree that the sub-contractor had billed for work not paid for. KP allegedly paid his employees in cash. Properly licensed contractors use pay roll. Rather than argue against the challenge to his proper license, Mr. Pollastrini chose to abandon the arbitrated award. Our accounting for the total cost of the job in excess of $100,000 plus legal expenses. Now 2 and a half years after starting the 3-month job, we don't have any more dealings with KP.
Description of Work: replace and finish hardwood floors and a railing, repaint cabinet and replace kitchen cabinet doors, new counter top and back splash, new sink, add sky light, complete bathroom remodel, and customize laundry area closet

It was a horrible experience. The crew showed up and demoed our house right away, then did nothing for almost a month. This included our kitchen and main bath. We chose to remain in the house because at the most it would be 3-4 months. We'd done a much more extensive job in the past, with a one man crew, in an estimated 3 months. This time we had a 3-4 man crew with subs. The project was not complete even after 8 months. The majority of any work done at all was on Saturdays and Sundays. The general contractor, Mr. Pollastrini, was hardly ever available to check on the project. He was uncooperative, argumentative, all round very unprofessional. He had an excuse for everything and never accepted any responsibility for his lack of due diligence. He drained all the funds of a "not to exceed" budget within the first few months. In the end, the work was inferior and everything except the skylight we've either had to repair, replace or complete, including refinishing our new hardwood floor which was poorly installed. That we will have to live with indefinitely.
Description of Work: Change door and drawer fronts in kitchen. Paint existing cabinet boxes white, new Quartz counter tops, new hardware, new tile floor, add small skylight and replace exsisting garden window. Replace 500 square feet of hardwood flooring. Small bathroom remodel and enclose washer and dryer located in a hallway.
