Drain Doctor sent a rep out to look at the toilet, he told me if I would buy a new toilet he would install for free. I bought a new toilet on 3/29 and I am not going to buy another. I want this fixed. thank you.
Description of Work: I had a new toilet installed on 3/29/09, Everything looked good. My house flooded in May of 09 and we were in a hotel for 11 weeks, so my cleaning lady didn't come. When I returned to the house I noticed the bowl of the toilet had a crack in it. As long as the toilet was clean you couldn't see the crack. When I called the company I was told that the warranty was for labor only. I told the compnay that is not what the receipt says. When the installer opened the box of the new toilet the top part was all broken and he had to go back to the store to get a replacement.

The technician came and used the camera that went into the sewer pipes. I think the service provider trains their technicians to get more business. The technician tried to sell me more business than necessary. He kind of scared me into thinking my sewer pipes were not level so I should dig and repipe to the street. Instead of digging a 6 x 8' area he said I should dig a 6 x 16' area. He quoted me $4700 and I have another quote for $2000. Once the technician saw he had gained our trust they came and only dug an area of 6 x 8'. I watched him at first and then went to work. I realized later that this is not the same area that he quoted. We argued with the company and I wanted them to refund me $2000, the technician admitted he meant a much bigger area when he quoted me. They refunded $1000, since we don't have time to fight it in small claims court so we accepted the $1000 and closed the case. I think there was a little bit of fraud and they tried to sell us more than what was necessary. They wanted to get more and more money out of us. We even saw on one of their bulletin boards ways for their employees to upsale.
Description of Work: I had a sewer problem so I called Drain Doctor.

I called for an estimate to install a GE water heater that I was going to buy from Home Depot. Home Depot had quoted $900 for the heater installed.---------- The service person convinced me that GE heaters were horrible quality and the I should buy a Rheem water heater from him. The proposed Rheem had the same specs as the Home Depot, he said. I asked if the Rheem was Energy Star compliant. He said that it was. I asked again to make sure. He again agreed that it was Energy Star compliant. He then quoted $1250. I refused. A few minutes later the Drain Doctor company called me and quoted $1050 for the job.---------- I accepted the $1050. The Rheem was installed. I was charged $1125 after the job was finished. Why $1125 rather than $1050? The installer said he had made a mistake on the estimate. ---------- The Rheem water heater that he installed was NOT Energy Star compliant. When I asked about this problem, the installer pretended to not know what Energy Star was. If he did not know what Energy Star was, why did he tell me twice the Rheem he was going to install was Energy Star compliant? He had even tried to hide the yellow energy label from me.---------- Later, I searched the Internet for information about GE and Rheem water heater quality. I discovered that GE water heaters are made by Rheem.---------- I feel that I paid to much. I could have had a similar GE (made by Rheem) installed from Home Depot for $255 less and it would have been Energy Star complaint. ---------- As far as I can tell, the actual installation was well done. I have had no problems after a few weeks.---------- I was prepared to just accept this insulting service and get on with life. But then, a couple of days later, the company called to ask how things went. I was not home. My wife told the person that I was not happy but did not give many details other than the cost underestimate. The person who called said that she would have the manager call me. He never did. That really made me unhappy.---------- Note: I had used Drain Doctor on several occasions to clean my drains. I was always satisfied with their work on drains.------Update, February, 2016: The water heater failed. The company I called to service the heater said the problem was common with this brand. They said most likely to fail in the same manner in a couple of years.

It went well. At first I did not accept his bid and he did not complain or try to pressure sell me. The office called and I negotiated a price based on what others advertised. I believe he said I would not be charged if he was unable to clear the stoppage. He was able to clear it without difficulty. It is necessary to transport the machine down hill to my house. He did not complain (another plumber refused to do it because of the slope.

The repairman arrived within forty five min. of our phone call. He quickly ascertained the problem and explained it to us. He told us the parts, while tiny, were nonetheless critical to making the heater work. He felt we could pursue getting the manufacturer to replace the defective/broken parts but not if we went ahead with the repairs at this point. We felt it would take several weeks or longer to go through that process and opted to pay for the parts ourselves. Since it was after hours, he said he would have to come back with parts the next day. He showed up as he said he would and did the repairs in a timely fashion. We have used Drain Doctor in a couple of other situations for after hours work and have always been very pleased with their professionalism and honesty. We wanted to use a couple of the A listed plumbers in Angie's but they were not available after hours or charged extra for night visits, which Drain Doctor doesn't do. Within a couple of hours of the repair we had wonderful hot water again and life is good.
Description of Work: They had to replace a thermocoupler and a thermostat because two different small parts broke for unknown reasons.

The house is a rental and the tenants complained of the drains backing up. They called the Drain Doctor and then the tech called me with the estimate. It needed to get done so I agreed to the estimate although it seemed high to me. He snaked the drain from the roof vent and was done in less than an hour. Two hours later it backed up again and he returned. He snaked the line, ran water, then snaked again. It appeared the problem was fixed, but then two days later it was backing up again. I wasn't happy with the work or price and was told Roto Rooter was more reasonable. They came out and ran the power auger with a 3" blade and cleared the line and it has been fine since. My tenant said the Drain Doctor tech used only a small auger and didn't use the larger power equipment. I felt they were overpriced and didn't size up the job correctly.
Description of Work: Needed to have the main sewer line of the house cleared. The technician snaked the line from the vent on the roof.

It was OK. It was nothing special. he tried to sell us a big job at the end of the job. He was cautious but I don't think he was aggressive enough with the job. I don't know how long the job will last. It was average quality. Nice guy but an average job. I chose with him because other companies I called advertised 24 hour service but he was the only one who honored that. They came out within an hour. They did honor a senior discount.

If you just need a drain cleaned out they are good for that, but don t use them for anything else. They lie, are totally ignorant, and they charge crazy, absorbent amounts of money. The guy that did the work did a good job, but he was told to charge way more. I wrote a letter and complained to them.
Description of Work: We had them replace about 100 feet of piping because the water heater was making a noise and I suspected this was the problem. They installed new copper piping.

I had just had my water heater replaced, and had received an estimate from that company for replacing the bathroom faucet. They were to come out next Saturday. However, the faucet started leaking a lot more, so I needed to get it fixed right away. I called Drain Doctor, and was told that the technician would be out in 45 minutes. However, he did not arrive for approximately 2 hours. The technician (Bob), was always professional. He had a list of prices for each individual task to be performed. I already had the faucet, but did not have the shutoff valves or P-traps. After reviewing his list, he came up with a price of around $600. I told him that was too high, so he eventually lowered it to $400. He had to cut off the P-trap since it was jury-rigged in place. He installed the new shutoff valves, pop-up, and faucet. He cleaned up the area after completing the work. It took approximately 1-1/2 hours to complete the work.
Description of Work: The bathroom faucet was leaking with a steady stream of water. I called Drain Doctor because they have a 24-hour/365 day-year policy. They replaced the faucet, and installed new P-Trap and shutoff valves.

OK, until I discovered that my front sprinklers, did not work. Aaron the job supervisor told me to call his cell, if I had any trouble. I did. He said he would be out, but did not appear, until I called the company a few days later. He told me the trouble was probably in the lines under the master valves. Pipes might need replacement, easy for us to do ourselves. Meanwhile, just water your lawn by hand. He did reluctantly open and clean the front outdoor faucet of dirt, because I told him pressure there was very low. Finally over a week later Simply Sprinklers located the sprinkler shut off, dug deep and found the sprinkler still attached to the nonfunctioning old pipe. Tried to reach Vivian, but she was always "in a meeting." I told phone person, I was not paying for more work. Aaron did come back with John and do the attachment, with no charge, but they were unfriendly and unapologetic. They said, they did not know about the sprinkler, since it was 2-3inches from their dig.

Our plumbing backed up, with disgusting debris in both showers. Even though no water flowed between the house and the sewer, plumber insisted the backup was in the sewer. Then, when that didn't work, he took off both toilets, snaked through the end of an unrelated pipe, necessitating a trip under the house to repair it. Finally, he snaked the pipe where I suspected the plug was all along. His snaking job lasted one week. I called and was told there was a warranty. Two guys came out this time and had to reseat one of the toilets, as it leaked when the water backed up. They used an air gun on the main drain. Two days later, my son noticed his new digital camera that had been sitting in its box on the coffee table was missing. The company responded to my concern that one of its employees might have taken it by insisting they are all honest. Now, two weeks later, same backup, only worse. Called and was told warranty good only for one follow-up visit! Called another outfit!
Description of Work: Took out both toilets and snaked. Snaked the sewer. Finally snaked the main drain.

I've used this vendor twice over about three years; dealing with the same problem. The first time was on a holiday and the response was excellent and cost quite reasonable (about $200) considering the holiday. The second time (no holiday) I felt that the cost was unreasonable. He was there for maybe 30 minutes. I should have asked for a quote before I brought him in.

Whole thing was a disaster from costing me more money than necessary by saying tank full. Workers in the afternoon left sewer line open..and roots that were removed at my back door. They wanted to repair pipe they said was broken No warranty and when called company could not get information about if all the roots were out or how long before I had to deal with broken pipe. In process of getting quotes for repair if needed..by other companies.
Description of Work: First man sent to correct problem told me that my septic tank was full. (It was not) and that he could only do my drain from the roof which would cost $360. Cost me $375 dollars to empty septic thank that was not full but truck was here and live in hills and so went ahead and drained it. Called back they sent two men who did clean out line and discovered roots and wanted to fix that..but I had had it!! Not a pleasant experience..just out of the hospital running around in the rain etc. That cost $175 said was their preferred rate. Not sure about that rate--if it is in line with others.

The first plumber took a video and told us he would have to cut a section the length of the garage floor to replace the sewer line out to the main (at a cost of $10,000). A second plumber showed us the line did not go under the garage but out under the front porch then under the lawn, and that the line was fine and did not need to be replaced. He cleaned out the roots to the street for $300, but this still did not fix the problem. While waiting for #2 to finish a big job, our sewer overflowed in the garage one night, so we called Drain Doctor to work on it. As I said above, John worked his *expletive* off to fix our problem, and he did a great job. He also saved us at least $10,000. Be aware of the trenchless sewer replacement guys. I'm sure there can be a need for their services, but I am now under the impression they are looking for ways to use their equipment.
Description of Work: Unknown source of odor in 50+ year old house. John first replaced broken clean out, which was not the source. Turned out to be a rotted section of pipe from the kitchen that was clogged with roots and rotted open along the top. John had to jack hammer the cement over the pipe and dig out the dirt until he found the problem, then replace and reconnect that section of pipe. This guy worked 3 full days on this job. He worked hard the whole time.

A farce. They obviously didn't know what they were doing, even though they sent more men out to help. Not only did the drain not get fully cleared, they didn't put the toilets back properly. The toilets started leaking right away. And the technicians didn't clean up after themselves. We would NEVER use them again.
Description of Work: The toilet was backing up. Drain Doctor was supposed to clear the drain down to the sewer. They pulled out a toilet, but their work caused the other toilet to back up. They pulled out the other toilet, but that didn't work. They went to the roof and dropped their snake down the pipe. They said they needed to charge more for using an additional snake. They couldn't get up the first snake. They worked until after midnight- unsuccessfully. Finally, they said they'd come back at 8 am the next day. They arrived about noon the next day, dug up the lawn, cut open the sewer pipe to retrieve their snake, did some drain cleaning, and then resealed the pipe. The clog was due to tree roots. The drain worked for one day, then backed up again. When called, Drain Doctor said their work had no warranty. We decided to go elsewhere.

The first service was very fast to arrive (within 45 minutes), but as I learned the inspection it was too cursory. I was VERY disappointed with the follow-up guarentee service and the communication.
Description of Work: Came out to fix a leaky kitchen faucet. The faucet appeared to be slighly unscrewed, however, after a few days it continue leaking. I called back to have Drain Doctor come out and was told they would come at 2:30pm...they never showed up but did call 3 times to say they would arrive soon. I finally received a call at 5:30pm from the original plumber who said he had just found out there was still a problem. He offered to come out two days later to fix the problem.

They arrived almost at the end of the time they said they would (a 2 hour window was given), and they performed part of the job, then said it would be more than the $175.00 estimated. I o.k.'d it, and they finished. They then sold me a drain cleaner to be used every week to keep the lines clean--it was $39.95. I have now found that the cleaner doesn't work, and really nothing does, because the pipes are old, and there are some tree branch issues as well.
Description of Work: Our old pipes were backing up again, and everything was overflowing in the garage. I called Drain Doctor, because they advertised 24 hours/7 days a week, and most jobs between $35.00 to $95.00 They needed to snake the lines and use a hydro-jetter cleaner to clear the line.

I was extremely pleased with my experience with the Drain Doctor. They answered the phone promptly and professionally and had a plumber at our house even sooner than estimated. They called to let me know he was on his way. The plumber was courteous and professional. He explained the steps of the different procedures that might be required and price for each. Fortunately, the problem was solved with the least expensive option. He completed the job quickly and left the space clean. I'd definitely call the Drain Doctor again.
