Fantastic! They did the work on time, quickly and efficiently AND they removed and replaced the heating vent covers without chipping paint or getting anything dirty...They did a wonderful job

Everything went smoothly. Workman came on time, was very professional, explained the issue and gave a very reasonable estimate (much less than the other companies that gave quotes). he returned a few days later and took care of the problem, taking photographs before and after the work. He also cleaned thoroughly all the air ducts inside the house. He used a brush a well as a vacuum and it made a big difference.

He was really honest and thorough. He was really good.

I was very pleased. They were excellent. They came on time and did what they were supposed to do. He was very fair, he wasn't trying to pether, get more business like some of the other people I contacted. It was unpleasant business and he did it very efficiently, very well. He was timely and honest. It was a pleasure to work with him. He's pricing was quite reasonable. Bernie is first rate, excellent. Left the work area clean, in really good shape.

Joe made this process so easy. We had a date scheduled for him to come out an give a quote. His office contacted me letting me know he had time earlier. He came out and checked out the house. He gave us an estimate. It was not the cheapest, but it was also not the most expensive. And the peace of mind is definitely worth it. The job took 4 days and everything was done. The guys kept the area clean and were very friendly and courteous. Both the heater and air conditioner work great. I can't recommend Joe highly enough. We were referred to him by some friends and we will definitely be spreading the word.

A fine job in all respects. Joe Calvey came out, surveyed the house and existing furnace, and gave me a selection of options for adding air conditioning, ranging from "lift existing downdraft furnace and add condenser coil" (least expensive but not ideal due to the old age of the furnace) to a full-system replacement with different options. Our ducts were old (1960s) and not well insulated or sealed, and the furnace itself was pushing 30 years old and had already needed some repairs. I decided on a substantial upgrade: new dual-speed downdraft furnace with air conditioning, remove all the old under-floor and air-return ducts and replace with larger flex ducts, new thermostat and wiring, keep the existing in-floor grills and boots, replace the in-ceiling air return grill with a larger one to improve airflow. Full permits and leak/efficiency testing. Joe recommended standard-efficiency furnace and air conditioning, saying that the substantially higher cost of the ultra-high-efficiency units would not be a good investment considering the Bay area's mild climate and how well our house is insulated and sealed. The actual work took four days plus some follow-up. The Calvey employees and the electrical subcontractor were a pleasure to deal with - on time, efficient, friendly, polite, cleaned up the job site each day, and were scrupulous about using shoe covers when indoors to protect the floors. The whole system worked perfectly once installed - both heating and air conditioning. The new (larger and well-sealed) ducts have roughly doubled the air-flow in the back part of the house, so I expect heating this winter will be much more comfortable and efficient. The new system is much quieter than the old. The system failed the initial leak testing (which was done to the strict "complete new system" standard even though some parts of the old system were kept). Jefferson came back, found and sealed up a bunch of leaks in the old manifold and boots, and the system now passes the "new system" standard with room to spare. The Mountain View permit inspection went off without a hitch. There was an annoying whine when the air conditioning was running at full speed. We determined that this was due to air whistling in the slatted louvers in the large air-return filter/grill cover in the hall ceiling (Internet search showed that this problem is not rare). Jefferson custom-ordered a replacement "egg crate" filter cover, installed it, and the noise was completely eliminated. Joe Calvey told me that he wants his customers to be happy with what they get. In my case, he and his team delivered just that!

Bernie was there on time. He was very efficient and cleaned up after himself. Total cost was for 2 hours of work. ($135 for the first hour, an additional $100 for the second hour) He thoroughly cleaned and adjusted 7 ceiling exhaust fans in my client's house. Over the years they had gotten noticeably louder. Calvey's service quieted them down.

He knows what he is doing. He conformed to the condo HOA's specifications and didn't disturb my neighbors.

Bernie said he should first diagnose the low-flow vent, because if there was a tear in any of the ducts, there'd be no sense in trying to clean them. He found that one of the rigid ducts was squished (almost flattened) and that there was a leak near the furnace. He fixed both of those problems and rescheduled the cleaning since the repairs took a few hours. I found him to be thorough, friendly, professional, and honest. I would definitely recommend Calvey Heating & Air and will use them again to do our duct cleaning next year!

I highly recommend Calvey Heating and Air. I explained to Joe that I wanted a modern ductless and quot;mini splitand quot; system and he had just the unit: Halcyon by Fujitsu. 18 SEER rating! No ducts! No dust being blown through ductwork and NO NOISE, at ALL. This thing is amazing. It not only cools the air in summer, it's also a heat pump in winter. I think I'm going to get rid of those gas wall heaters after all. The Fujitsu is a quiet, soft heat and just invisible in your everyday living (well, it is visible, but not obvious, and did I mention quiet?). The best part of Calvey Heating and Air are the people. Joe is an amazing guy, a straight up, honest master of his trade. He communicates clearly, promptly, regularly with the customer. Plus, he treats his people well - not just his customers. I respect that. His office manager Vikki is on top of everything. His crew (I had Hector and Jose) are just brilliant, too: on time, quiet, clean, courteous, fast, and so very professional. I have had far more exposure to contractors in the last few months since buying this older home than I ever thought I would, and by far the Calvey experience has been the best. Zero issues whatsoever. The price was really fair too. They really worked with me on that. Just love them all. I'm really impressed. They do things right, not just the expedient thing. They are the best in MV and beyond, and I'm not the only one who thinks so.

Joe and his team did a great job replacing our old furnace with a brand new system. All the work was done in the winter - come summer it turned out the AC calibration needed to be adjusted a bit. Calvey sent a technician out in less than 24 hours (no charge) and then everything worked beautifully. We were very happy with their work and responsiveness.

Although I deferred getting the A/C system installed until later, I did want to write a review about Calvey Heating and Air. I am very pleased with their service so far and do intend to use them in the near future to have the work done that was previously bid. Joe Calvey and his staff have been super professional and courteous. Joe was able to come up with a nearly-spot-on estimate on his first visit, thanks to his iPad calculations, followed by a full estimate within 24 hours. He was very understanding of my tight budget and complicated setup, trying to install ductless A/C in a 100 year old house without ducts. And last of all, his staff was unfailingly kind when I had to postpone the install due to a family emergency. I got three estimates from competitors and spoke to many more on the phone. Calvey is the only outfit that didn't try to sell me a forced air furnace that I didn't need, didn't have a separate and quot;sales staffand quot; from the installers (always a bad sign), and didn't try to blow smoke up my a** about how big a unit I needed for the whole house. They seem to be the last honest contractors in this trade! Highly recommended.

I never take the time to write reviews, but after the outstanding customer service I received I felt compelled to write a review for Calvey Heating and Air. Here is why my experience was so great. 1. Offered viable solution - I initially got estimates for AC installation from several different companies. There are incredibly strict codes in our city and Joe Calvey was the only one that came up with a solution that allowed us to get 2 AC units permitted and installed in locations that made sense. 2. Excellent communication - I appreciated Joe's excellent communication throughout the process. I got answers to questions quickly, even on the weekend. 3. Top notch service - We had numerous hiccups in the process that were unrelated to the company, but Joe kept me informed about the situation and status as soon as he got information. One issue was that a new restriction for AC installation was supposed to come into effect in our city within a few days. To avoid further complications in the project Joe had his workers come out on Saturday to ensure the work would be done in time. 4. Went above and beyond - During the installation it was found that a coil wasn't working and needed to be replaced. This could have added another $400 to our bill, but the company covered the cost. 5. Attention to detail - Joe Calvey personally came by to check in on things and make sure everything was done right the first time. Joe Calvey is incredibly hard working and honest. He runs a top notch company and I would recommend them to anyone.

I got a reference from my contractor to use Calvey heating to clean our duct vents and dryer vents after the remodeling project. We are now glad that we used them. We had a 9am appointment with Calvey heating and Bernie was on time. He inspected all the vents and suggested to us which ones are required and which ones are not which shows that he was not money minded and wanted to do all vents cleaning even if it is not required. He also inspected the dryer vent and we could see that it also needed cleaning. He finished all 7 vents and dryer vent cleaning in two hours. During the whole process, he made sure that everything is clean after he was done with each vent and he also had covered his shoes which was nice. He told us that there were some remodeling dusts in some the areas where we did the remodeling. Now we feel much better knowing that the remodeling dusts has been removed from the ducts and all the ducts are clean.

I can't say enough good about Calvey Heating. Joe came out to give us a bid, he was very responsive to working with me on staying within the budget. His estimate was right on (no hidden, surprising extras). His team was very professional, kind, they cleaned up well after they were done and all in all did a wonderful job installing heating, ducts and a/c at our house. During the project Joe was always available for answering questions, etc.

They did a really good job and he did it quick. He really seem to know what he was doing. He stayed there until the job was done.

They are great. They used an equipment that makes sense because the machine has a brush that goes down and brushes around the duct not just vacuumed it out. The crew is courteous and efficient. Their work area is clean and professional. I will use them again.

I have never had anyone do work on my home that was more professional or accommodating. Due to some unforseen problems we had to postpone finishing the work for several months. The owner Joe was very patient and understanding in regard to the delay in completion and payment. I knew nothing about the process of replacing heating ducts and the more I researched the subject, the more confused I became, because half of the installers recommended one type of materials and the other half were adament the other choice was the way to proceed. I changed my mind on the materials once and really tested Joe's patience. All I can say......is Joe is a saint. If you want to work with someone who is kind and takes pride in doing good work and having a good relationship with his customer....Joe is the guy. I know if you select him to work for you...you will be very pleased.

Joe came out and provided an overview of the problems and took the time to outline my options highlighting the tradeoffs. We settled on a plan and I received a written description of the work to be done along with the cost. We scheduled an appointment for the next week and he and his team came out and did a great job. They were in and out and took great care when taking out all of the old materials so to avoid making a mess. His team cleaned up nside and out. Joe offered to come back in a week to make sure all was well and if not, would make adjustments in the airflow as needed. Overall - great work, great value. I would recommend Joe and his team to anyone needing help.

I had an emergency situation with my rental property. It was the week before Christmas and the furnace went out completely. It was during the coldest spell that we have had to date and the tenants were expecting out of town family within the week for the holidays. I called several HVAC companies only to be told that it would be after the first of the year before they could get to it. One said they could repair it, but after forking out $250 in parts and labor, (no refund) it was clear that a replacement was the only option, (fire hazard) but they had no room in their schedule. I called Calvey Heating and Air. According to their message, they were closed that day. But the owner, Joe Calvey called back within an hour and arranged to meet me at the house the next day. He was on time and well prepared. He personally inspected the unit and property and made recommendations. I told him that I not only wanted it replaced, but that I wanted it relocated to the attic, prepped for AC and new ductwork. It was to say the least, a big job and timing was of the essence given that the tenant had no heat. I had an estimate that evening via email. It was not the cheapest, (I got 2 others) but the scope of work was more (included repair, patching, and painting of drywall). In addition, it included a superior high efficiency unit compared to 80% efficiency that the other two companies quoted. The best part was that he was able to get me scheduled within a few days, and with a 4 day completion plan. (excluding drywall repair) to accommodate the tenants who were getting ready for Christmas and visitors. Day 1 the crew were there on time to do the demo work. By the time I got there 40 minutes in, the old furnace was out and they were well on the way. They were respectful and aware of the tenants. They wore bootees to protect the rugs and floors and provided drop cloths for furniture etc.. Given the scope of the work, the demo that needed to be done, and new construction, I was more than pleasantly surprised at how little dust and dirt there was. They were very clean, and it was hard to tell that they had been there at all by the end. They completed the job with a day to spare, and the tenants had heat on day two. Overall I was very pleased with the product, service and attention to detail. The system Joe recommended was great. Efficient and overall very effective. The thermostat is set 7 degrees lower than before the upgrade. Most of all, it is so quiet one can hardly hear it at all even at start up. In addition, the drywall repair was amazing. Calvey sub-contracted it, but still oversaw it. I was a little concerned since I have completely smooth (no texture) walls and ceilings. This said, I can honestly not tell that they have been patched. Even with 7 year old paint, it was impossible to find the join...the contractor matched it so perfectly. There were a couple of small hitches, particularly with a faulty thermostat but Joe Calvey was hands on and was very responsive to ensure they were resolved ASAP. Even over the holidays. Also, he personally went to the district offices to pull the permits. He scheduled and supervised the inspection with the city inspector. It's now been a month and the tenants are very happy with the new system and with the work as well as the limited interruption to them. After the job was completed, I offered to have the home cleaned for them but they said this was not necessary because the contractor were so careful that they were able to do it themselves. In summary, I would recommend Calvey Heating and Air without hesitation. Attention to detail, and no nonsense approach is compelling. (no up-selling) Commitment to their work and willingness to ensure customer satisfaction would make me use them again in future.

I got a call back at the end of the day (a whole day wasted) without a message. I called them back only to fin out they DO NOT DO REPAIR WORK. This NEEDS to be updated on their profile so as not to waste members' time. No I'll have to wait until tomorrow to call someone else to try and schedule a repair to our non-functional heating system. Really off-pi**ing.

This is an excellent and professional company to do business with. There price was the best of several estimates. Whereas San Jose Plumbing told me I had abestos, Joe told me his inspection was that I did not have abestos and if I did they would have to call abatement, but I did not. They were clean, organized and did an excellent job in replacing the ducts under my home. I would definitely use them again.

We took his advice to install an energy efficienct furnace and so far our bills are 40% less. I would recommend Calvey Heating and air to anyone. Thank you Joe.

I called Joe to come out and give us an estimate to install a new AC and to replace our existing heater and duct work. Joe was easy to reach and was able to make it out to give us a quote within a couple days even though it was the middle of a big heat wave. Joe was punctual, friendly and very knowledgeable about the equipment and installation we had in mind. He understood the scope of the project and was able to offer suggestions, such as adding an additional vent in one of our larger rooms, that would make the unit function more efficiently. He did not try to upsell us on equipment or services. He said we probably did not need new ducting for example, and also gave us information on a more moderately-priced heater. He was also very familiar with all of the permits required by San Jose for installation and moving the heating unit. His company arranges for the plumber to be present while the city inspector comes out for the permit, which is very convenient. The main reason we did not accept the bid from Calvey was that we have two small children who need their naps and the bid from Calvey was estimated to take a day or two longer than the company we decided to go with. We were really torn between two great companies and were sorry not to get to work with Joe and his team!
