Ordering was easy although salesman was a bit higher pressure than I prefer - pushed very hard to sign contract on the spot. Pricing was reasonable after discounts, not the lowest but the windows seemed good - on a par with Pella's top end vinyl line. Pricing was much better than Renewals by Andersen. Had the windows two weeks now and like them very much. Delivery was as estimated and they adjusted the installation date to accommodate changes in my schedule. Now the not so good: Salesman let us know they sold window coverings also and we indicated we were going to replace ours and wanted to speak with someone about purchasing some. Several days later (at the end of the legal period during which we could rescind the contract) the front office called to confirm contract (points for that), we again mentioned we wanted to purchase shades. Later I sent an email to the salesman again stating we were interested in shades. The salesman never replied to my email as I requested. We were never contacted about shades and American Vision Windows lost the opportunity for a fair amount more of our business. American Vision Windows stated the installation would take one day and they would show up with a crew of 6 or 7. They showed up with a crew of three and the installation took two full days. Not a big problem but a very poor job of managing our expectations and giving me the information I needed to manage my schedule. Finally, we had them install a wooden window sill (stool) on one set of windows. We like the result so much we asked them to do the same on several other windows. The crew did one of the additional windows but didn't have the materials to do the others. As this was additional scope at additional cost, I paid in full for the original work when it was completed. The crew lead told me the service department would call to schedule when the work would be completed. I did get a call but couldn't answer so got a voice mail. I returned the call, which went their voice mail and left a detailed message. Have called back several times now, always going to voice mail. No call back yet. At this point I very much doubt they will come and do the additional work. I hope that should I ever have a problem with the windows I will get better service, but this does not inspire great confidence. In summary, we like the windows and they were pretty good at the basics, but they offered more and failed to deliver on that.

The initial visit with the sale rep, David N., went well. We were given the details we needed for the deal at the time (free upgrade to Del Mar package + free installation (retrofit only, not new construction). We were only able to take advantage of half of that deal, as our windows had to be new construction, but we knew that going in so that is not against AVW.? Their first team was punctual, but surprisingly understaffed for the number of windows being done. The rest of the crew arrived on day 2. There were two separate "teams" within the full crew: one from the Bay Area, led by a fellow named Ryan, and the other from their Simi Valley offices named Ignacio (they colloquially referred to him as "Nacho", but I won't do so since he is a real person, not a tortilla chip with cheese on it).? Initially things went smoothly. They went approximately three windows at a time, removing the old, removing stucco, and preparing the space for a brane new window. Our windows and doors have alarm wiring going to them, and we were told they wouldn't have any problems with that (not true, as you'll see later). It took about three days to get the downstairs windows and doors put in (we have a total of 12 windows and 2 patio doors for our house!), and then the upstairs windows were started. And then began the problems.? Partway through the installation process for the upstairs windows, the Simi Valley team (lead by Ignacio) was recalled back down to Southern California where they were from, leaving us with only four remaining crew members, two teams of two workers each, led by the aforementioned Ryan. Up to this point Ryan had kept us in the loop about what was going on and what to expect, and oversaw the overall project while doing the work of cutting and sizing materials for the other technicians to use in the installation of the windows.? I had noticed that the second patio door was initially installed with no wood paneling underneath on one side and that it was not completely level or sealed well. So I asked Ryan to take a look and make sure the work had been done properly. Unfortunately this was not the case. The patio door was installed with no new wood paneling underneath, with one third of the underside completely bare (no wood), the middle looking "OKish", and the right third of the area underneath the door with rotted wood left in place. This would have made it very easy for rain to get under our house and cause erosion and/or mold issues down the line, so I told Ryan that this needed to be taken care of. But that wasn't the only issue downstairs.? Both patio doors needed to be re-shimmed with proper spacers, insulated, and sealed. So Ryan and the three remaining crew members had to take them back off and redo the entire install by themselves because the Simi Valley crew had left already. This put the project behind schedule by at least a day at that point. It should be noted that the Simi Valley crew handled the removal and pre-installation steps themselves while Ryan's crew put the windows in and performed the finishing steps (for the most part, see below for more issues). I had noticed that the upstairs windows had no spacers, no insulation of any kind in the space between the stucco and framing, and were not level. I also noticed that there was unevenness around nearly all windows, both downstairs and upstairs where the space between the window frame and drywall was different with regard to the sides vs. the top and bottom. There was also noticeably sloppy caulking on these windows. The only windows not plagued by these quality issues were the ones done by Ryan and his partner, Cesar.? So Ryan had to again undo the window installation and retrofit spacers (shims) to make the windows level and looking good. At the same time, he told us that because we had gone with internal frame and casing on our garden window that the rest would look better with the same layout, so we decided to go along with that. Doing so, however, added more time to the project, resluting in Ryan's direct supervisor, Glenn coming out the following day to "help", because at that point Glenn had transferred two of the remaining four crew members from our project to a new project elsewhere, leaving us with only Ryan and Cesar to do all of the remaining work.? I say "help" because Glenn was so slow that only two windows were worked on by him, one being the kitchen window and the other being the one by our china cabinet. Both windows had leveling issues and the kitchen window looked awful due to the frame jutting out by more than an inch the entire perimeter of the window (as it replaced a windowsill). Ryan had to redo the framing so that there was a windowsill, as not doing so meant we would have an ugly frame around that one window. The end result though was better than I expected and had a windowsill long enough to hold my grandmother's tea cup set without them hanging over the edge.? Amidst all of this, the project was also delayed by three additional days because the building inspector was not called to come out on time and by the time the above supervisor called him to come out, it was Friday and the inspector couldn't arrive until the following Monday.? So after doing the downstairs windows, Ryan moved to the upstairs windows, where he had discovered lopsided windows and poor caulking. So once again, it meant removing and redoing the install properly with spacers, framing, and casing. So even more time was added to the project that was supposed to only take five days initially.? When that work was finally done on April 11th, we signed off on the completion certificate, fourteen days later, much longer than the five day install period was supposed to be. Then our troubles began in earnest.? We had our alarm installer (NSC Alarm Company) come out to reconnect the alarm to the windows. The window installers had drilled a hole through the frame of the window for the wire to come through, which was fine, but when the alarm technician connected the sensors, the zones did not register. He discovered that instead of simply pulling the wire to extend it to be long enough to go through the hole in the window frame, the window installers (Ignacio's crew from Simi Valley) had spliced the wires, which caused loss of signal and rendered our alarm unusable.? There was a small section on the contract not more than a few words that noted "not responsible for reconnecting alarm wiring. But that assumes that the window installers make no changes to the wiring (pulling out wire to extend it is not considered a change). Splicing is a direct alteration of the alarm wiring, which would thus nullify that clause/section. We'd have accepted the damage if it were incidental, not resulting from a purposeful alteration.? So we contacted AVW about the issue and were given the runaround. I finally contacted their corporate office in Simi Valley and spoke to a man named Jason there. He told us flat out AVW wouldn't cover the full cost of the repairs, but so far even after sending him a direct quote from NSC, we've heard nothing from AVW. And every time I call I'm told that Jason is not available or on vacation, and Brian, the general manager for the Santa Clara office, has not gotten back to me yet either. It's been two months of phone tag and waiting and we can't use our alarm.? This means that we can't get the window trim (indoors/outdoors) painted because the alarm company has to drill and drop new wire first, and we can't get that started until we hear back from AVW. So our house, and especially my grandfather, are now insecure with no readily available recourse as AVW is avoiding responsibility.? And as if that weren't enough, our garden window had to have its front pane replaced by Anlin, and the replacement has a 1" x 0.5" gouge in it and needs to be replaced again as well. Still waiting to hear from Anlin or AVW on that one for over a week now.? And to top all of that off, one of the AVW crew stole a swiss army knife from my downstairs bathroom medicine cabinet. I can only assume whoever did so was looking for prescription drugs as that's usually what you do looking for in such a place, but decided on a simple crime of opportunity. I reported the theft and was compensated $50, which I gave as the value of the knife's closest current equivalant in features. The true cost to replace it with the same feature set is $100-$150, but I'm an honest person and gave the closest approximation value instead as I don't cheat others.? For the nearly $33,500 we spent on this project (plus going to Home Depot to get extra nails and casing when the crew ran out on-scene), we expected American Vision Windows to be more forthcoming and honorable. Instead, we've had a nightmare installation and continue to have issues that aren't being resolved.? The windows themselves are of excellent quality and have kept our A/C from coming on for the most part on hot days. Ryan and Cesar did one h*** of a job picking up the slack from the no longer present crew as well. But the lack of honesty and pulling crew members away from our project before it was done, plus the theft and now alarm issues ($2500 to rewire!) are purely unacceptable for a company that supposedly prides itself on doing right by the customer.? I really have to ask Bill and Kathleen from AVW: What problems prompted you to create American Vision Windows, because from where I stand, we're having the very problems AVW was supposed to help us avoid. The windows are good, but the customer support and service end of the process has been downright horrible.? As of this review date, issues are unresolved. AVW is unwilling to compensate us properly for damage to our alarm system caused by an intentional alteration of its wiring ($500 offered when it costs $2500 to rewire the house due to wiring changes not authorized by us).

I first met with a sales consultant, who came to my home. I didn't exactly know what I wanted, but he helped me decide, which I appreciate. The price seemed high to replace the window with one sheet of glass, but I wanted a few extra things, like anti-glare and sound-proofing, so I guess it was reasonable. I didn't care for how the salesman made comments about my home -- it seemed unprofessional -- and he told me that American Vision Windows didn't offer a great choice in window coverings. The sales person actually dissed the product, which was interesting. But again, unprofessional. The installation was terrific. They came, they installed, they cleaned up, they left, and they even put a plastic screen up so that the dust could be contained. Very well done.

They communicated proactively. I was able to confirm the warranty which was very important to us in choosing this provider. I had a question and the manager responded to my call to his cell phone within 15 minutes. The installers were prompt, clean and showed me all the of the details re: operating and maintaining the windows before leaving. We got other bids before talking to American Vision Windows and the value they offer was incomparable to the others - way better.

They were out super quick. Everyone did a beautiful job. All my neighbors have been complimenting me constantly. They're great to use them. They were very reasonably priced for me. The experience with them was pretty painful. Everything was great until they collected our money and then it took a very long time to get anything done. We had to constantly send emails, asking them what's going on and what's the schedule. Eventually, they did perform the service and it turned out really well.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with American Vision Windows. Although we are happy to hear that everything turned out well, we are very disappointed to hear that you had anything less than an A experience. The heart of American Vision Windows is to ensure that all of our customers walk away with a window or door installation experience that is nothing less than exceptional. Clearly, you did not receive this treatment. We would like to discuss your issue in further detail. We know that our home improvement projects can take some time, but we want to dig a little deeper to find out if it was abnormally long or if there was anything that we could have done to assure you that you were being taken care of properly. Thanks again for bringing this to our attention and I hope that we can earn your business again in the future

From the first contact to the last they were wonderful to work with. They always kept me informed, and I have to mention especially the work crew (Daniel, Alex, Joaquin, Juan) was splendid, not just professional (clean and quick) but friendly and very helpful above and beyond for my special circumstance. I have a very small cottage, and lots of stuff up against the windows, but I am handicapped and couldn't help clear pathways for them so they did it all themselves very cheerfully. I couldn't ask for more. And as for the windows, they are not only beautiful, and beautifully installed, but the house is so quiet now! Thank you so much, American Visions!

Excellent service! Everything was done very professionally from start to finish. Abraham Villegas was absolutely wonderful, spending hours discussing the job and the possibilities. He listened to what was important to us, and gave us a wide variety of options, patiently explaining the differences in the construction and quality of windows. We weighed the pros and cons of a variety of windows. He was amazingly patient, as we changed our minds several times. Finally, we decided what we wanted. He gave us a quote, and then he came down on that quoted price a little bit to be competitive with other bidders. He won our business by giving us all the information we needed to make an informed choice, and we felt confident we had made the right choice. The windows were custom made to fit our choice of panes and styles, and to fit our windows. When the windows were done, they scheduled an appointment. They arrived promptly on the appointed day, and Daniel was as awesome as Abraham. My husband, who has some construction experience, was impressed. Daniel was also very patient to walk my husband through the details of how they would install our windows. The team proceeded to work all day, with only a 30 minute break for lunch. The work was done by the time I got home from work and the windows look amazing! All of the old windows had been hauled away. Yes! After years of dealing with windows that don't open, stick if they do, and were HOT, we spent the entire weekend opening up the windows, enjoying the clear views, and cooling off in the summer breezes! We love our new windows and wish we had installed them years earlier!! Big thanks to American Vision Windows. I would definitely recommend them to anyone.

After getting estimates from a few windows dealers: Brothers, Renewal by Anderson, Custom Exteriors (also Anlin dealer), and American Vision Windows, I decided to give the job to American Vision Windows. I first narrowed down the windows brand by collecting feedback from company mailing lists and neighbors. Based on the feedback, people were more happy with Anlin windows than Milgard windows. Anderson windows are nice, but way overpriced. I have never heard of the radio ads from AVS. I made the decision based on peer feedback and also from reading the reviews on Angie's list and yelp. I was a little worried by some of the negative reviews on Yelp and was also worried by negative comments from their competitor Custom Exteriors. They said you get what you paid for, the other dealers might bait and switch (not ordering Infinite plus coating, no argon gas, not ordering BetterVue screens, etc). Because of these comment, I made a trip to visit the general manager Jim to confirm the details. Custom Exteriors did not provide me with correct recommendations. They recommended the cheapest Monte Verde windows that I can't even find on Anlin's website. They also failed to point out egress requirements. After asking them to provide updated quotes for Anlin Catalina windows (no sound package), their price was still a few thousand dollars higher than American Vision's Alnlin Del Mar windows with Sound Package. I contacted them via email but received no response. The sales process went very smoothly with Rob and the measurement guy Doug also helped me very much and even walked with me to my neighbor's house 2 streets down to check out his Anlin windows. Because of this step, I realized I needed the expanded view frame that my neighbor has (that was approved by our HOA). Rob and Jim (general manager) helped me change my order to expanded view so my HOA can approve it without issue. Because I have 4 new construction windows (to meet code) and 18 replacement windows, the installation process took 2 days. I also opted to pull the permit and have inspection to protect myself. The installation went mostly smoothly. There were a few minor issues I found during installation. 1. I spotted one of the installers installed 5 of the windows in my master bedroom without chaulking the bottom of the frame and leaving 2 gaps for drainage. I asked him about it and he said it was the standard process. I then ask the lead installer Francisco, and he said the other installer confused the process with another type of window installation. It was too late to pull out the windows, so we could only seal it from the outside around the wood trim (but not on the contact between vinyl frame and aluminum frame, since it was too late). 2. I noticed the installers were filling very little of the low-expanding form to the gap between the frame and the wall. I asked them to completely fill up the gap for better insulation. I was first told that it would expand a lot, but it didn't, then was told it was the company's "guideline" not to use too much of those because they are expensive. I understand they are expensive, but I kept on checking the installation progress and kept on asking them to seal properly. I am glad I took 2 days off to closely watch out the installation process. I also spent a lot of time watching youtube videos about the proper installation process beforehand so I know if the installation is being done properly. 3. A few windows have manufacturing inperfections on the windows themselves. Some have small gaps on the welded frame (the installer used chaulk to seal those), some has glue sqeeze out (I tried to clean up some myself and leaving others still there). One window screen has some minor costmetic issues (fixed up) and another screen was torn (re-screened it, but the re-screen doesn't look as perfect as those from factory). 4. I was in a hurry to go out at the end of second day. The installer had little time to clean up. They did tell me to be careful about broken glasses in the back yard and side yard. I did spot some small pieces of glasses and took a few days to find all the pieces before allowing the kids to play in the yard. OK, maybe I get a little too picky/detail-oriented. But spending over $13,000 on windows is a huge expense and I want to make sure everything is properly done. I still have 2 more windows to be installed and have been pending due to my kitchen remodel delays (those windows sit right on top of the counter top that I plan to replace). AVW has been very accommodating and checking back with me from time to time. And we are now discussing alternative to get the windows installed and I would still be able to remove the counter top without damaging the windows. Oh, another thing, if you have wood trims around your windows, please have them checked by independent contractors/handyman and repair them before replacement windows installation. AVS sales guy told me I had 2 windows with dryrot, but I asked 2 contractors to come repair the wood trims. The first one replaced about 20 pieces before the windows installation and the second one replaced 14 pieces and painted the wood trims after the windows installation. Overall, I am satisfied with the outcome. The replacement windows are nice, but the new construction windows look even nicer (narrower frame with no filler strips). So, if budget allows, I would recommend new construction windows all around.

They were excellent. I will recommend them because they were good. They came in to knock out the windows in one day. Then once they ordered the shutters, they came in to replace the shutters. I had no problems with them and they were quick. They were just the guys I was looking for because they don’t stay there full time and I travel back and forth. They did it everything before the day they promised. There were eight men who did the job within hours. They were a little bit expensive but they had a good sales representative who explained everything. When I’m there, I am stressed about time and I’m only there for a month or two and that’s push ends. So, I have to get everything done and when I’m there I have to get the ball running right away. So, I took these guys and it turned out to be good. I think they gave me a pretty good price. I had priced the windows previously with a local company and I don’t know that will be as good as these guys were. Probably these guys are better in giving frolics. My son is already working with them and my other children are also interested in using their services.
Description of Work: I used the services of American Vision Windows. They replaced all my windows and shutters. They also contracted with somebody to paint the exterior of my house.

AVW claims to want to do business differently, what a joke.
Description of Work: Estimator Juan Jacinto came to my home. He was polite and on time. Everything started off fine. He showed me the one kind of window he wanted me to buy, told me that he had a special on another kind of window....but I wouldn't like it. I'm not sure why he thought that. He gave me a price which was for over $10,000.00 for 2 sliders and 8 windows. I must have looked like he was crazy...he goes to his car to get a brochure and tells me "I just spoke to my boss and for the NEXT 24 hours I can lower the price to 8,500.00".No joke this is what he said. I later complained to the office and the General Manager, Jim Pope Gave me the same story...you need to buy in the next 24 hours to get this price. This is not how I do business.

Hi [removed members name], Our free window upgrade was a manufacturer promotion that was to expire January 31st, (the same day we visited you at your home). Our intention was to save you over $1,500.- by taking advantage of the manufacturers free upgrade before it expired. In order to do that, were required to sign the order within 24 hours. Our heart is genuinely to serve you with the very best experience possible, and we'd love the opportunity to prove it to you. Please give Jim a call at our Santa Clara office (408) 617-0901. Thank you!

Ordered an dutch door on 5/21/13 to replace an exterior dutch door to replace an ill fitting older wood and glass door. The initial sales call went well, I was impressed by the knowledge and friendliness of the salesperson. I was told it would take 4 to 5 weeks for the door to be constructed after they sent a technician to complete the measurements. That was done on 5/29/13. I received a couple of emails with the subject line "You're almost there" and they included a video to watch. Neither of these emails had anything to do with my door or where it really was in the process. I think these are standard emails they send out to all of their clients. Appreciated the effort, but they really were of no use to me. About 5 1/2 weeks later (7/9/13) I called just to see if I could get a status on the door. The first person I talked to couldn't find the order and then transferred me to someone else (I had to repeat what I had asked the first person) who also couldn't find my order. I was told a supervisor would get back to me. No one did. I called again on 7/11/13 in the afternoon, was told the door wasn't in and they would check on it and get back to me. No one did. I even sent an email to them hoping someone would see it. Never got a response. On 7/16/13, I sent an email to the salesperson asking if he knew how I could find out where my door was in the process - did not get a response. I sent another on 7/19/13 - and he called me saying he would check into it. The next call I got was from the installation group and we set up a date to install on 7/31/13. The door turned out very nice and the installation was done very well. There were a few details that I didn't see until I went to paint the door the next day. The caulking was only half done on the inside casing and I had to finish that. The caulking on the exterior trim was just plain odd - there were 3 or 4 glops across the top, none on the left side and a really thick bead 3/4's of the way down on the right side. I tried to fix it but by then the caulk had dried and it was next to impossible to remove. I'm going to try again to fix it this summer. The salesperson also told me that a new header would have to be built when he quoted me the price - it wasn't done and I'm not sure I actually got what I paid for. The worst thing I experienced with this company was their lack of response. I didn't have a problem if the door was going to take longer to build because it was a dutch door - a little out of the ordinary, so I kind of expected it would take longer. I just wanted a status. I also got a call from someone from this company a few days ago. I wasn't home and she left a message for me to call her back (no explanation was given to what the call was about). I did call her back and got voicemail - left a message that I returned her call - I never got a call back.
Description of Work: Ordered and installed an exterior dutch door.

American Vision Windows is a top notch company, and I highly recommend them. Initial visit was at the showroom in Santa Clara which was very impressive. An appointment was made to get an estimate and see examples of the windows. The representative was exactly on time, and explained in great detail what would be done. I accepted the offer. Another representative visited to take exact measurements of the windows. Windows were installed in one day. They took time to explain each step of the installation. I was very impressed with the professional people at American Vision Windows, starting with the initial visit through the entire process. Everything was done on time and exactly as explained. An outstanding company!
