Lewis Plumbing will gouge you on the cost of any parts required for your job. I had them replace 2 valve stems for bathtub faucets and they billed $66 plus tax each. The retail of the part is $13-$20. They replaced a water pressure regulator which retails for $65 and charged me $212.50 plus tax. In addition they charged $300 for 2.5 hours labor for a total bill of $674.21. The technician charged my credit card while he was onsite. After reviewing the invoice, I sent Lewis an email (in their email with the invoice they request that you give them a chance to "make it right" before you leave a negative review) asking them to explain the high markups. They responded very tersely "the pricing is standard." I sent a follow up email asking if I was correct that they were marking up parts by 300%-400% and they never responded. I have several other rental properties and this extremely high mark up on parts is NOT standard. I will never use Lewis Plumbing again. There are other Santa Barbara plumbers with much better average reviews. Avoid this company.

Plumber damaged stairs when removing old water heater. Took office 2 weeks to address the issue after numerous contact. Finally sent technician out to somewhat repair the damage, but felt nothing would have been done had I not pressed the issue.

Was told $110.00 per hour for service. Asked at 330PM if possible to come before 5pm. Happy to get a call that they could come. Plumber came at 403PM. Reached into toilet and pulled out screwdriver. Snaked drain with a small hand snake. I had completely pulled items under sink the night before and had carefully removed plastic trap which was in PERFECT CONDITION. I was careful!! Was hoping the trap had clog so I would not need to request plumber but was clean and NOT CRACKED! Plumber was done in 20min but came out saying my plastic trap was cracked - BALONEY! He either knelt on it or sat on it of craced it on purpose...I'm not sure which but it was NOT CRACKED. He took another 10min doing who know what and came back with a stainless steel trap. I should have challenged him at that time. I get the bill for $172.98!!!!!!! Are you kidding me? $110.00 minimum which Is obscene but expected since they are not the type of company who would charge anything less for a 20min job (+ 10 min because he broke by trap) but I was okay with that. But they charged me $20 for using the snake??? How do they usually unclog a drain? With their tongue? And another $45 for a replacement trap which I hereby swear that he broke! They should replace what they broke! But Lewis Plumbing did not man up. They just saw an opportunity to stick it to me. $173 to unclog a VERY EASY sink and a reach into the toilet! All in 30min? Oh, boy! Was I lucky? I will never use these snakes again (opps! maybe another $20?) and since they are no better than rug cleaners, I recommend everyone stay away from this dishonorable company. They are out for your money any will not be upfront with you. After all, at $110.00 an hour they still feel the need to gauge you if you want them to use the tools of their trade. Absolutely disgusting! Try someone else. You can't do worse. They charge $20 to use the tools of their trade? Enough said! Can you believe it?

The plumber was very nice, he installed the new sink, faucet, etc. ($396.04 for that part). I don't do dishes (lucky me), but my husband said the flow was too low (and it was true, it took a long to just fill a glass of water). About a month later, we smelled a slight gas order from a hall furnace. I called Lewis Plumbing to have them adjust the flow to the sink they installed a month ago, and check gas for leakage ---which, I found out when the second plumber arrived, in California, plumbers don't have gas leakage meters. Why I wasn't told that on the phone is anyone's guess (it never occurred to me that a trade that works in gas wouldn't have gas detection equiptment). Anyway, a different, very nice plumber arrived and we saw the water restricted line had an additional restrictor on it. The plumber fixed the situation . As far as the gas leak, I was then told California plumbers don't carry gas leakage meters. I said, "I wish I had been told that when I called, as I specifically stated we needed to identify the source of the gas leak with a meter." The very nice man recommended an A/C Heating company. We were not given a bill, as explained it should be under warrantee. Within a few days, we received a bill for $100 from Lewis Plumbing! So, I am not sure if the bill is for something that should have be under warrantee or for recommending a A/C Heating company! Either way, Not Happy.

Response from Lewis Plumbing, Inc
5/5/14 installed a Glacier Bay faucet the owner had purchased from most likely Home Depot. 6/3/14 Called back out to check for a gas leak an check low pressure in faucet installed above. I removed the factory installed flow restrictor in this faucet. This faucet has a design flaw, in that it doesn't move side to side well. I then soap-tested the gas line to check for leakage. Found none. Then I checked the FAU unit for a gas leak. I found the FAU with pilot off. I tired several time to re light it but it would not stay on. The gas smell is a result of the FAU being on with no pilot light on. I recommended a HVAC company to look at the unit. Our service call is a minimum of $100.00. We are open to talk about the service call or answer any questions you may have at any time.

This was the best experience I have ever had with a contractor. Their prices were very reasonable and Phil did all the work quickly and professionally. We have an old house with some plumbing oddities, and he was very knowledgeable about those and creative in working around them. I think the scope of the job was a little more than they expected, but they stuck to the original quoted price even though it took them substantially longer than they had anticipated. They were responsive and available for follow-up questions. We will certainly use Lewis Plumbing again if the need arises.

We had two problems. Our upstairs toilet was leaking into the bathroom downstairs whenever we flushed the toilet. We also had a long term and chronic problem of a tub that would not drain even after several rootings. Lewis made a prompt visit to assess the problem and arrived the next day to start the job. Ceiling and wall plaster downstairs had to be removed to get to the problems and determine what parts and tools were needed. This took up most of the first day. Lewis arrived early the second day prepared to make the repairs. The old iron drain line from the tube was cut out and replaced with new pvc (?) pipe. The tub drain line was a different issue. Lewis was able to determine that the tub drain line did not go to the sewer line that left the house. Instead the tub drain line went directly to a long ago and disconnected septic tank. The tank had been disconnected and filled with sand when sewer lines were placed in the neighborhood years ago. No wonder it never drained correctly. The Lewis plumber had to use some creative solutions to reroute the drain as he was working in confined space between the floor above and the ceiling below and routing around floor joists and heating ducts. All the time the Lewis plumber let me know what his plans were and asked for my approval. Plans changed a couple of times and by the end of the second day he was finished. Overall the job was well done by a very competent young man who maintain a positive attitude with a sometimes difficult situation. Upon completion Lewis Plumbing recommended a firm that could repair the holes in the ceiling and wall. Now we are back to normal or even beter. Since I don't use plumbers frequently I don't know if the price is more or less that the market value. It seemed a little high to me but I am not complaining as the quality and timeliness of the work was excellent.
