Chipman gave us a bid and we accepted. We asked for boxes early to pack stuff but they never arrived. They showed up to pack on time but did not bring enough people. They showed up the next day to move with a truck already loaded with two smaller jobs and not enough room for our stuff. They made enough room but we were not finished until late in the evening. The people involved were nice and worked hard to make up the difference. Between Long Beach and St. Louis they had to off load some boxes because of weight. Some of those boxes never made it to St. Louis. CHIPMAN DID HONOR THE PRICE IN THE ESTIMATE. They made the estimate and they did honor it. Unloading in St. Louis, United and the local movers were very good and efficiently moved us in. Some things were missing and some were damaged. Chipman honored our claims but some of the stuff lost is irreplaceable. There was never a request for additional money to cover their low estimate. The people were good on both ends, the bad estimate caused the problem with the truck and the load.

The company sent out a representative to inventory all our furniture and goods. She sent me a list of the inventory, and I found a few errors that needed to be adjusted. She also told us that we did not need to unload and pack the clothing in our dresser drawers, chest, etc., that the furniture would be wrapped up in plastic wrapping and the drawers could stay full. This turned out not to be the case. The packers unloaded everything and packed it all (which meant they handled our underwear....something I was not happy with! lol ) I had to contact that same rep a couple of times by email and phone messages, and she ignored me. When I contacted the office, they apologized and answered my questions promptly. So that rep was what cost them one star off the rating. A crew of four men packed on a Monday. Took them all day, but they did a great job. Very nice guys. Two other guys loaded the truck the following day. It was a 3-story town home, and they really could have used another person. Took them from around 8:45 a.m. till 5:30 p.m. They were nice, courteous, and did a good job. The company gave us a delivery window of 3 to 4 days. The load arrived on Friday, so three days. The same two guys who loaded the truck drove it to the new destination and unloaded it, but they did have an extra person with them to unload. They did a good job. We did not ask them to unpack. We did experience some slight damage....an inexpensive particle-board bookcase was damaged, and a lamp shade got crushed. We did not pursue reimbursement, since the cost would have been so small. Otherwise, everything was fine. All glassware and fragile items arrived intact. They originally put the mattress/box spring sets for two queen beds in the wrong bedrooms, but were happy to change them out. While they worked, my husband and I were frantically unpacking boxes (we had 100!), because they told us they would be happy to take the packing and boxes away with them, which was a big help. Overall, I would recommend this company. As for the pricing, I cannot say whether it was fair or not. It was our first big move, and my husband's employer paid for it.

I boxed everything up myself and then they moved it. They stored my belongings for a week until we were ready to move in and then they moved our belongings back in for us. We had no damage and they were very good. Their prices were reasonable. I would use them again in the future.
Description of Work: I had United Van Lines move my belongings seventy miles for me.
