This is a new owner and is not professionally run. First, I was quoted a very high price and then told if I paid cash they would take $10 off. Then they said they would take $20 off. This was on a quote of $260, which should have been closer to $100. The person who quotes and does the work does not speak English, so an interpreter is a go-between. Very unprofessional space with pottery on the floor. This is not the business it used to be. The original owner retired. Don't bother going here.
Description of Work: Only gave me a quote through an interpreter, but the insistence on cash really turned me off.

They did great work and I can't tell where the repairs were done. They are fairly expensive however, but was worth the work I received.
Description of Work: I had a 1920's frame that they refurbished and a porcelain unicorn that was repaired.

I didn't tell them the value of it before I got the estimate. They gave me an estimate and then I told them the value. They were surprised to find that it was worth $15,000-$20,000. It didn't change the price and they repaired it well before schedule and they did a great job. The price was good.

My experience was absolutely wonderful. My neighbor had recommended Pick Up The Pieces since she is an avid Hummel collector and has had several pieces restored in the past (she showed me the items that had been broken and I could not tell them from brand new). I brought my items in for an estimate. The customer service staff was familiar with Lladro as well as Royal Doulton. They were patient and understanding given that I was fit to be tied having 2 of my favorite collectibles damaged by some clumsy movers. They gave me an estimate of $775.00 for both ($350 for the Lladro and $425 for the Royal Doulton Vase). They told me it would take 6-8 weeks because they would need to make the missing pieces by hand. Fortunately the mover's insurance covered the entire cost. 1 month later I received a call from the company that my pieces were ready for pick up. When they handed me my 2 pieces, I really could not believe my eyes..... the Lladro was as perfect as the day my husband had given it to me, I was unable to tell where it had been originally damages and the flowers looked perfect....the Royal Doulton was just as amazing given that there were many small pieces missing with intricate hand painted designs that had to be duplicated from my photos of the vase. These people really are some of the most gifted artist and their work is really miraculous. I really appreciate what they did for me and would recommend their services to everyone.
Description of Work: I had 2 porcelain items restored. 1) Lladro figurine 2) Royal Doulton Hand Painted Vase. The Lladro was "Vow of Love" and the Royal Doulton was an antique hand painted vase circa 1875. The Lladro had been damaged in a recent move and had a head broken off and over a dozen of the beautiful delicate flowers were missing (I was very upset with the movers to say the least). The Royal Doulton had the most severe damage. This too was damaged in the move. Both of the griffin handles were broken and there was a rather large damaged area around the rim with many of the small pieces missing. Fortunately, the movers insurance covered the restoration cost as both pieces are not replaceable. Both of the pieces needed extensive restoration including duplicating the hand painted designs on the vase.

I had them repair the lid to a malachite box that had been broken during a move. The piece is very valuable to me and cherished by me. I use them a lot. I'm an artist and if I have any problems I'll take it to them to fix it for me. The box was in about twelve little pieces. They put it back together. Some of the pieces were even missing, but when I got it back you couldn't tell anything was even done because it had been repaired perfectly. I was amazed. I'd seen them do work in the past, but when it happens to you it's amazing. They've repaired other things such as vases for me in the past. I will definitely use them again in the future if I need to. For the value, it's very inexpensive to get something like that repaired.

I've used then a number of times and have been amazed! A broken malachite box that I thought was destroyed came back so beautifully repaired nobody could tell it had been broken. They have various expert restorers who have repairs art, and ceramics for me as well. All repairs have come out beautifully. The price is fair, especially considering the value of what is being rescued. They are professional and prompt.. I recommend them to anyone!.

I took the Lladro to Pick Up The Pieces in May of 2011 to see if there was any chance it could be restored. To my amazement they said yes. Not only could they replace the broken heads, they could also make the missing thumb. They estimated the repair cost to be $400.00 and told me it would take approximately 3 weeks. 3 weeks later I received a courtesy phone call with good news: my prized Lladro was ready and the repair came in $25.00 under the estimated charge of $400.00. I could not wait to get over there and see for myself. Sure enough, my Lladro was as good as new... I could not tell that it had ever been damaged in any way whatsoever! I was thrilled. I had originally heard about Pick Up The Pieces in a news story years ago (after the Northridge earthquake) and have used their services many time in the past including repairing a Waterford glass with a chipped rim, removing the yellowed varnish on an old oil painting as well as a simple repair of a tea cup with a broken handle. As with all of the previous repairs, the staff was very friendly and helpful. I felt that the repair charge was fair given the extent of the damage as well as the missing pieces plus it actually came in a bit lower than they had originally estimated which was an unexpected bonus. This was a real positive experience and I would recommend their service to everyone. 5 stars!!!
Description of Work: I'm an avid collector of fine porcelains. Our housekeeper damaged our porcelain Lladro "A Mother's Embrace" while dusting. The mother's and baby's heads were knocked off and the mother's thumb was missing. This Lladro had special sentimental value as we purchased it on a trip to Spain. I thought for sure that this was beyond repair given the severity of the damage. The scope of the repair I needed included replacing both damages heads that were in multiple pieces and to make a new thumb that my housekeeper must have accidentally vacuumed up (we looked everywhere).

We had some pieces shipped by UPS, and 2 of the boxes arrived in very bad shape, with the contents severly damaged. After much searching for somewhere for repairing pieces with such different issues, we found PIck Up the Pieces in Irvine. They were helpful on the phone, and assured us that they could repair almost anything. We are extremely pleased with the results, and would recommend their service. We can't tell where the breaks were on any of the pieces. Their service is friendly and helpful. They had the work completed in the estimated time given. Their charge for the work was much lower than the other quote received from another company for repairing just the lamp base.
Description of Work: Repaired a broken pierced ceramic lamp base and two ornate picture frames that had been damaged in shipping.

We had used them 8-10 years ago and the quality of work is still high. They are not quick. They have quite a backlog and we were quoted 8-10 weeks for the repair. It can be expensive but only the owner can put an emotional value on a piece. Our repairs were simple but they advertise that they can fix shattered items and replace missing pieces.
Description of Work: We collect Llardo porcelin. We had knocked the head off a 14 in statue and also snapped a foreleg on a horse statue. They reattached the broken pieces and reglazed the areas. The work is seamless to the naked eye.
