Flowerdale Nursery & Landscaping

I had an unfortunate experience at this nursery. I visited Flowerdale to purchase a new lemon tree after the existing one in my back yard died due to a failed effort at moving/transplanting it last year. Since Flowerdale advertises landscaping services (both on their website and via banners on premises), my intent was to buy a tree from them, and hire them to remove the old "tree" (it was quite small) & have the new one planted by someone who knows what they're doing. My attempt to do so went awry. When I approached the payment/info counter during my visit, I was not greeted and only marginally acknowledged with eye contact. I initiated the conversation and said that I'd like to buy a lemon tree. The gentleman there asked, "5 or 15-gallon?" I replied, "15-gallon, and I'd like to hire someone to plant it for me and remove an existing tree that died." He began to look at me like I was a space alien, so I quickly added, "...because I see you do landscaping services." He continued to look at me strangely, and almost in a rolling-of-the-eyes way, turned to another gentleman behind the counter and asked, "Do we do small jobs?" and the other man shook his head and said "No. I don't have the labor." So the gentleman I was speaking we relayed the "No" and stared blankly at me, as if to dismiss me. So I left, amazed and angered. I can come up with several alternative Flowerdale responses to my eagerness to buy a tree and desire to have it planted: "I'm sorry, we'd love to help you but won't have time to assist you until ___[September?]___ when our work load diminishes." OR, "I'm sorry, we can't help you with the planting. But I'd love to sell you the tree and give you some planting pointers for you or your gardener." OR SIMPLY, "I'm sorry, we can't help you with the planting, but I'd love to sell you the tree and bring it out to your vehicle." Very strange experience. I guess the economy and job market is so good, you can turn customers away even for small jobs AND not find any labor in this market to help you out? Bizarre. They really need a training course in customer-service 101. And I guess the $15K landscaping job for this fall that my landscape architect came up with for my front lawn will NOT be awarded to Flowerdale. :-(
