I did not know he would charge me $500 just for coming out to order materials. He also ordered the wrong size shower and tub insert. When he came out on another occasion and charged me again $500 to organize and go through belongings in garage and clean the garage, they threw away bed hangings, that are not replaceable, for my four post bed. I asked to have someone to come out to help hang curtains and rods and I said I would pay $25 an hour and later he charged me $300 for four hours when they only put up the rods and never hung the curtains. I felt he was over charging me and he was not listening to me. I do not feel comfortable with him and have no intention of using him in the future, as I felt he was hiding charges from me and was not upfront with me. He was also very careless in communicating. If you have a home security system, you need to utilize it if you hire him.
Description of Work: Mr. Hovick came out to do estimate for bathroom remodel and have me order materials for my bathroom, clean and organize my garage and back room and hang curtains.

[member name removed] is suffering from extremely poor health, aggravated by very unsanitary conditions in her home. The house is stuffed with possessions, barely allowing space to move from one place to another. Preparatory to starting our project, I offered to organize her garage and a rear storage room for a staging area. I stated I would do it on an hourly basis and be done as quickly as possible. She agreed to this - although I see now she held a different expectation. Nonetheless the work was done. The shower surround was the proper size. [member name removed] elected to postpone the project I think 4 times due to unexpected surgeries, and infections which made it unrealistic to proceed due to additional medical expenses. I offered to step out of the project or to wait until such time as she was ready. She decided to wait until she was ready. Apparently she has forgotten that. I tried my best to meet [member name removed]extremely exacting expectations and needs. I was not able to. The additional work she mentions included some electrical work that was improperly done by another contractor. THOSE extra charges amounted to the sum she is attributing to the curtain rod work alone. I knew there was a risk of this sort of outcome - having worked for a couple of invalided people. My regrets.

[removed members name]; Thank you for your kind words. It was a pleasure working on this project for you. I am glad to have been of service. Nick
The final product is gorgeous. Nick has a great eye and is not only very artistic and sensitive to period details, but also an outstanding craftsman and just a stellar person. He also brought in a painter and a decorator who were excellent as well. I highly recommend Nick.
Description of Work: Nick designed, built and installed mouldings, trim, a fireplace surround, and a built-in window seat in the living room of my antique home.

It was a pleasure working with [member name removed]. Her attention to detail, concern for the partifulars of color matching, period and style was a great asset in creating this project. Thanks again for the opportunity, Nick Hovick

Nick and his crew of contractors were great from the beginning. Nick met with us a few times and really listened to our needs for this particular project. When the quote came in way above that for which we had budgeted, Nick went back and brought an estimate for the amount we had budgeted. We had to forgo some of the project, but we were very satisfied with the end product. The contractors were not only at the site early, they were ready to work early. They kept the construction area neat at the end of each day and made sure everything was stowed during the weekends. They allowed us to use sweat equity to offset some of the costs and allowed the project to stay on budget. The deck is amazingly beautiful. It is exactly what we wanted and needed. In the end, however, the overall cleanup left something to be desired. We were promised that the cement/concrete mess would be cleaned up; it was not so my husband had to do it. Also, the contractors left some of their tools behind. Even with followup phone calls, they still have not been picked up two weeks later.

The concrete remains cleanup by the client could well be considered part of the sweat equity mentioned earlier as part of the offset for bringing in a job at a considerably lower price. I HAD mentioned that it would be cleaned up and wouldn't normally be left. I expected the men to clean that up. I am glad that [Member's name removed] tended to that. But because of our arrangement to let [Member's name removed] do labor to offset the lesser labor budget it seems appropriate. I am surprised at this mention. However, there was a small amount of equipment (wheelbarrow and two hand tools) left behind, which [Member's name removed] kindly dropped off at my house two days ago. Apologies for the delay. Re: The concrete cleanup issue. We had an agreement for [Member's names removed] to provide labor, digging, cleanup. It was appropriate for [Member's name removed] to clean up the concrete. And I thanked him for it.

I needed to remodel one bathroom because the floor was collapsing. I asked Nick to come and look at it and give his opinion. As a woman, like most, we all have difficulty speaking to men who work for us. However Nick made me feel at ease. He created a plan and explained it simply so that I understood what he was going to do. He then submitted a plan with an accompanying estimate. He promised he would complete the entire job within one week. As I mentioned before, this is a one bathroom house.....! Beginning, he and his workman laid out tarps and hung masking to protect the surrounding rooms, and my beautiful wood floors. Then they gutted the bathroom and hauled the debris away. They kept the area very neat and dust free throughout the job. It was a pleasure to have Nick and his workman around and we even had lunch together out on my patio several times. By the end of the week the job was completed. He brought the job in on budget and on time. Now I am proud to offer guests my bathroom.
Description of Work: I am a single woman, taking care of my own home. My home was built in 1948. I was very pleased to have had Nick's professional throughout both my project. He listened attentively to my wishes. He then found ways to create the visual effects I wanted in a way that was attractive and durable. In 2000, Nick Hovick ( HovickDesign, Monterey California, (831)375-4949) performed the following services for me. He moved the water heater to a corner of my patio. He also moved the washing machine to a spot next to the water heater and installed the plumbing for the both appliances, and for a hose bib. He designed and constructed an enclosure/cabinet to protect these pieces of equipment. The washing machine enclosure opens conveniently to allow utilization. He then caulked and painted the enclosure with a primer and two coats High End Benjamin Moore Paint. Nick completed the project rapidly. It looks very well where it is and the entire project has been without a problem. It has worked very well for 12 years. I would definitely hire Nick again and have. In November 2011 I hired Nick to remodel my bathroom. I was living in one bathroom house at the time, so punctuality in completing the job was important. The bathroom floor had rotted through from the leaky toilet. Nick very carefully salvaged the hand made antique Mizner tile that forms the base for the floor, trims the sink counter, and the tub. He was able to save most of the tile. This was important as the tile is irreplaceable. He removed the toilet, the vanity and the sink. He cut out the damaged flooring and replaced it with Marine plywood which he explained would be very durable. He patched new and old flooring with Fixall to create a smooth subfloor. He replaced the "closet ring" ( for mounting the toilet) and repaired the worn water lines. He installed a new vanity cabinet, one piece sink top, and faucets. He tiled the floor with blue institutional vinyl, which I loved and insisted on. He created a delft blue epoxy sealant to match the floor tile and seal up all the joints! Then he re-installed the Mizner tile.
