They were very courteous and prompt and the technician, who also was the "salesperson" when I called, inspected the opener very briefly and said it could not be repaired. And he listed all of the problems with the unit and gave me his estimate of $1,113.00. He gave me the estimate and then started going to his truck to get his equipment. I asked what he was doing and he said "I can do the job right now". I said no, that I needed to review the estimate and clean out the garage so he had room to work (he had told me we needed to move a lot of things around and out of his way). I also told him that I had realized I should check with my Home Warranty Co, First American, in case they covered this work. He told me emphatically they would not; that they had done lots of work with FA and they only covered repairs, not replacements..........and reiterated that he could get the job done in a couple of hours right now. After he left I did call First American and to my surprise they said my policy covers the garage door opener and absolutely would cover both a repair or a replacement. So long story short, CMS garage door company came out and looked at the opener and immediately diagnosed the problem - a burnt out condenser. The tech replaced it, cleaned & oiled all of the rollers and the springs and in less than 1 hour I had a perfectly working and very quiet opener! Oh, and the total cost to me - $60.00 Obviously I found Alcosta to be sorely lacking in professionalism and diagnostic skills....or worst case, they knew the opener could be fixed and tried to scam us!

The repairman initially came and looked over the garage door mechanism. I was told that the motor was a good one and should last a lot longer. Told me specifically what needed to be replaced. I went out and bought those items and the repairman came back in a couple of days and installed them. I have used this company in the past and have always been happy with their work. They have always seemed honest and don't do more than is necessary.

Alcosta overhead door co. was great! They were friendly reserving the special promotion for Angie's list and on time on the date of service. My garage door was much quieter and smoother than ever and they even helped me program a second remote. They were great!

When I called them, they made an appointment for 2 days later. The appt. was between 10 am to 12 noon. The tech, did not call in, he was late and came in at 1 pm. He spent about 5 minutes, did not do any reconditioning, borrowed silicon lube from me, sprayed the lube on the track and left. I was shocked. Thereafter, I called the partner / manager and asked them what was covered in the big deal. They explained that reconditioning involves changing of the ball bearings and thorough cleaning and lubrication. Then I explained that the tech who came in did not do any of that and just left in 10 minutes. The partner apologized and said they would come and fix it. Two days later, the master tech came on time, did a thorough job and left. He also informed me that the tech was fired. Overall, I was happy with their service. It is unfortunate that I had to deal with the tech who was a con man.

I called the company to make the appointment and I have no problem to agree on a date. (within 3 days from my call) The worker completed the job satisfactorily. However, when I asked the owner to perform additional work, outside the 100.00 coupon I got from you, I found that his price quoted much too high Wai Wong

They were personable, prompt and efficient! They were also inexpensive, and I would recommend them to others!

I had a tenant contact me on a Sunday about the garage door opener not working. They had a car stuck in the garage, so it was important to get it repaired quickly. I called them on Monday morning and made an appointment the same day. They were on time and replaced a broken spring in about 45 minutes.

Alcosta was very prompt. Even though the initial contact was made over the Thanksgiving weekend, they returned the call and were actually very willing to work us in as quickly as possible. They were very prompt in scheduling an appointment and coming to the residence and the work performed is of high quality. The garage door performs better than it has in years and is considerably quieter.

I've bought Angie's Big Deal to fix my noisy garage door that also made a metal-on-metal bang when it was closing. The guy replaced the old squeaky rollers with ones with ball bearings, adjusted the spring and the rails to make sure that it closes quietly. Quick and efficient.

The work was done efficiently, but had no change. I was expecting more from this service.

Waste of money. I wanted quiter garage doors and he did absolutely nothing. Doors still squeak with no prognosis on how to make them quiet. He came, he spent 30 min futzing, then he left.

They came on time, replaced all the moving pieces and oiled the door. Works like new.

He gave me a bid on taking care of the other things, and i am actually just about to phone them to take care of it. I did compare it to another company as my wife thought it was high. They said it was a good bid. The bid was $395 for a new spring across the top, a new weather strip on bottom, and shearing off a bolt which was too long which caused the damage in the prior spring. My only minor point would be that there was a sort of urgency put forth about getting the job done and that the door could fail any minute if i did not deal with it immediately. I waited 2.5 months, it is still working. On the other hand, it does need to be done and the serviceman understood it totally. Please note. The service was in Oakland although my address on file is a mailing address. We do not publish our home address for privacy reasons. Follow-up -- we did have the service performed in late October (around 5 months later) and it went well. They came on time, and honored the bid given in June. I was given the cell # of my service man, same person who was here in June, and dealt with him directly on scheduling. The office was very helpful when I called. My home was built in 1918, but the garage in question was added in the early 90s.

The technician came in and got right to work. The noise of the garage gate was significantly reduced after he replaced the rollers and lubricated the mechanisms. He was a little late but called to notify me. Overall, this is was a good experience. I will recommend them to friends and family.

I used Alcosta through one of the Angieslist promo's for roller replacement. They were punctual, easy to work with, and accomodating of my schedule which changed at the last minute. I asked several questions and was given honest/straight-forward answers. I even asked about a panel window replacement/upgrade I had been thinking about and I was provided a lot of useful information to help me with my decision. There was no pressure to buy anything I didn't need or to sell me extra services during this visit. I liked working with Alcosta and plan on calling them back to install a heavier gauge door with window panels in the not too distant future.

We have 2 large garage doors that had been loud and squeaky for awhile. I had just signed up for Angie's List and received my first Big Deal offer for a Garage Door Quieting/Reconditioning Package. I made an appointment for the following week and the work was performed as scheduled. The technician was pleasnat and professional. He replaced the old metal rollers with rubber ones and this made a slight difference in the noise level as it reduced the squeak. I believe he applied some type of oil on the chains as well. However, it turns out the motor is the main source of the noise, and this would require replacement. The service only helped a little, so I'm glad I used a Big Deal offer rather than pay full price. Overall, I was happy with the company, as it was easy to set up the appt. and the technician was great.

They were very professional, we spoke on the phone and they came to provide maintenance to the door. The door is now smooth and quiet when opened or closed. We are very happy with the service, which was efficient and fast.

They always answer the phone, arrange appointments promptly and arrive on time. The technician is pleasant and competent. I have used them before for garage door maintenance and I have also recommended them to a neighbor who was pleased. I wish all service businesses performed like they do!

My experience with Alcosta Overhead Door was fine. He made some suggestions for further stuff like replacing springs and things, but I'm not ready to do that and don't see the need at the moment. The work that he did was fine, but I think he was mostly trying to sell me more stuff.

I found them on Angie's List and used a big deal coupon for this service. The company was sold to another company but they honored the coupon. The guy who came out from the new company seemed to know a lot more about what was going on than the old company did a good job explaining everything. The old company had earlier greased the hinges of my garage door and the new company pointed out that I probably could use a new motor; which he installed. He did a very good job doing that.
