Dan's Air Duct Cleaning

The job was eventually done and done well, but there were problems along the way. The first was that the technicians had not brought with them the correct equipment to fit the kind of ducts in our house, but they did return with the correct equipment a few days later. Second, because of the non-standard size of our ducts, there was an extra charge for the job. Third, because of the nature of the duct for cold air return, they were unable to clean that duct.

Dan's was prompt in responding to our e-mail. His team was quick and efficient and explained what they were doing. Our dryer vent was very dirty - so glad we had them out Great experience. We will have them back.

Overall a good experience. The company called me soon after I registered on line for the cleaning special price. Two men arrived at the time agreed upon, which is not always the case with service companies. The men were pleasant, informative, efficient and very respectful. Not something one sees for customer service these days. I was surprised to know about the $20 trip charge, this was not explained to me on the phone nor that there would be an extra charge for more than 8 vents to be cleaned. Overall I am satisfied with the work done.

Everything went badly. They were five hours late. They never confirmed the appointment and never called me back when I called them. I was never told that they would not take credit card. I was charged a $20 transport fee that I was never told about. They did not want a check that was made out to Dan; they wanted it to be made out to “cash” so they could go to Big O’ Tires”. The workmen were very nice and professional, but Dan is really bad and you should never recommend him.

We used the Big Deal special of Angie's List for the job. It was mostly positive but I did have a follow up question related to the quality for them and they never returned my call. It was cheap and easy. My husband was here when they came and I didn't actually interact with them. It was positive. I may possibly use them again.

They seemed to certainly know what they were doing. They were fast and efficient. I was quite satisfied with them.

The work date is only approximate. I bought the Angie's List Big Deal. I had missed the expiration date, but the owner was willing to extend the offer to me, when Angie's List contacted them. I rated the price as "excellent", but would not have, if I had to pay full price ($450+). Dan called right away to schedule the air duct cleaning. He had to charge extra because I was outside Contra Costa County (cannot remember exactly- $20 extra?) His worker came promptly on the appointed day and was efficient in the work performed. The deal included dryer duct cleaning, which was a big plus. He had to moved the washer/dryer out of the way to do it, I was worried how he would get back there, but he managed quite well and placed them back perfectly. I had heard about air duct cleaning done in a vacuum to avoid dust, etc, but this duct cleaning was done just with a large machine with a large suction hose with a rotating brush at the end. It was basically a large portable vacuum cleaner with a rotating brush attachment. It caused a minor amount of debris at each duct, which I had to clean up later. Dan's worker (sorry poor memory again-Ernesto?) was kind, and efficient. I was happy to have clear ducts before the winter when we would need to use the heater a lot more. I rated the overall experience "good" because of the debris/dust I had to clean up.

They did a good job. I was impressed by the fact that the person who came actually spoke English because I expected somebody who barely spoke English. I was pleasantly surprised.

There were issues with getting somebody over here, but when they did come, they did a good job. It was a special price on Angie's List. The work was overdue because we hadn't had it done since we did some remodeling years ago. I could tell when they were done because it was less dusty in the house. They did what they said they were going to do but they had a hard time scheduling. There were some problems that were not his fault or my fault. The electric company had some trucks in the street and it would have been impossible for them to get their van in here with all their equipment. This kept happening with the electric company. A lot of the scheduling was them but once we did schedule a time he had to leave because he had the wrong equipment. We kind of went back and forth. Once they tackled the job, it was a job well done. The guy found a problem in one of the vents and it wasn't a problem that a vent cleaner could fix. It had come unattached and wasn't blowing. He did find that, which was good. The guy didn’t show up one time after telling me he would be here. It was a headache with the scheduling. I don’t know if I would use them again; I might but there are a lot of these companies out there.

The workmanship was good. However, scheduling the appointment was a hassle. First Dan called me to schedule the appointment as I had purchased the Big Deal. I scheduled it for a Saturday morning two weeks later. Two days prior, I was called and asked to do them a favor by rescheduling to 1pm. I asked to schedule for another Saturday morning instead, however the company was trying to group all their appointments in my area for the same day. For this reason I agreed to the 1pm appointment, though it meant I wouldn't be able to leave the house until evening. At 1pm the technician called and said he was delayed and he would be a little late. At 3:30pm, he still hadn't arrived, so I called and left a message with the company. Dan called back at 4:30pm and blamed the previous client for the delay. The technician was not going to be able to come to my home that day afterall. Instead, Dan scheduled for the technician to arrive on his day off, Sunday at 10am to make up for it. The technician called at 10am and told me he needed to pick up medication and would arrive at 11am. Instead he arrived at 11:20am. I would not use their services again as scheduling this appointment was time consuming and kept me waiting.

I hired Dan's air duct cleaning as part of an Angie's list "Big Deal". We've recently bought a new home and wanted a fresh start on the condition/quality of the air indoors. We weren't comfortable paying the regular price for duct cleaning(~$450), but the angie's list deal was around $235 for 8 ducts and the dryer duct ($235 for Air Duct and Dryer Vent Cleaning!). Great deal - thanks Angie's list !!! It is true that they dont have a lot of hired contractors. Their service people and office people seem to be regular employees. There were some scheduling challenges initially, because I was given the impression that they dont work on saturdays, and because of my own hectic schedule, but once those were resolved they sent out 'Rafael' to do the work. Cora in the office and Rafael who does the cleaning are both very courteous and nice. Rafael was very punctual and did a great job. They charge $20 extra for any extra ducts not covered by the deal, but that's pretty nominal/fair I think. Thanks for a nice job again !

Service was scheduled promptly. Technician arrived on-time. Was extremely pleasant and professional. Did a careful and thorough job. Yes, we were charged 20 dollars more as we are located outside of the county the company is located in- but all of the other duct cleaning services we called refused to even come out to see us because we were "too far" (and we live in Southern Marin just beyond the Golden Gate bridge). Given the cost of gasoline, we thought this surcharge was fair. We will use them again. We would recommend them to family and friends.

I made the apt for 1 and they didn’t show up till 3. On top of that they charged me 20 for trip charge.

The company was very prompt and the technician was very professional and did a good job. He recommended a cost effective filter for our HVAC system. Everything was clean and neat when he was done. I will use them again.

Overall went very well. After coming by our house initially, they decided that due to our hardwood floors, they wanted to use a smaller machine with rubber wheels. We rescheduled the appointment, which was fine. The person who was on the job was nice and professional. He found big balls of fur in several of the vents since the previous home owners had a dog. He also found some asbestos in one of the bedroom vents, which he removed with the necessary precautions taken. Overall a great experience.

He cleaned the dryer vent and heater ducts. The work went as planned. I would recommend them to others.

The technician called to confirm the appointment and arrived on time. He looked at the house and told me that he could clean the 5 air ducts on the first floor for the minimum of $299. He said that the ducts on the second and third floors did not need to be cleaned because they were located in the walls and the ceilings and that stuff did not fall in those types of installations. He said the ducts on the first floor were installed in the floor and because of that, debris and dirt could accumulate and stay there. He went ahead and cleaned out those ducts with his machine. He then asked me if I wanted to have my dryer duct cleaned while he was there. He said it would be an additional $129. I declined because I thought that was too much money after paying $299 for 5 floor ducts to be cleaned. He then told me that Dan, his boss, was away on a motorcycle trip and forgot to leave him gas money. He said that his next job was in Marin and he didn?t have enough money to get gas and pay the toll. He told me that he would clean my dryer duct for $40 if I could pay him in cash or write a check directly to him. He sounded very sincere so I went ahead and had the duct cleaned for $40 and wrote a check to him directly. In retrospect, I am certain that it was not a good idea. I don't know if that dryer duct cleaning money ever got to the owner. To get to the dryer duct, he had to go out the back door with his huge machine. The door opening is not large and he scratched the door when he was maneuvering out there. He could have easily gone out the front door which is larger and then around the side of the house to get to the back. I noticed it after he had left. There was not a scratch there before. It was fresh. I called Dan and told him about it and he asked me to take photos and email to him, which I did. Dan then called me and said that he had talked to the technician and he said he did not scratch the door. He then tried to blame it on the shower door installers that had been there at the same time. They were not anywhere near the back door ? they went straight into the front door and up the stairs to the 3rd floor. (I have no shower in my back yard!) He asked me to get an estimate on repairing it. He then said that he would come out and look at it on 4/24. He asked me to call him that day and let him know when I would be home. I called him and told him when I was home. I also told him that he should bring the machine out that his technician used so that it would be easy to determine how the scratch was made. He said he wasn?t sure of his schedule and would call me back. He never did and I haven?t heard anything from him since. I have to assume at this point that he has no intention of taking responsibility for the damage

They were here on time and did everything according to what he said on the phone. He called me back afterward as well. They cleaned up after themselves well.

They had a fast response. They explained what they were doing. The workers were very good.

They were wonderful. Half the price vs. Comerfords and got my dryer duct thrown in for free! They vacuumed and swept up, moved furniture, etc. Extremely nice, honest, and prompt.

Our original appointment was rescheduled because the tech, after looking at our registers, felt he needed the carpentry skills of another employee to avoid damaging the molding that held the register covers in place. They rescheduled at my convenience. When they returned, one fellow removed and replaced the woodwork while the other cleaned the ducts and registers. The wood was old and brittle but they managed to do their work with only a few minor cracks that I can fix myself. They worked efficiently even though I'm sure the extra obstacles slowed them down. My only complaints are that they arrived an hour and a half late on the first visit and, although they vacuumed the floors around the registers when they were done, the bathroom wall and cabinet near that vent was left with a spray of soot.
