He came out to inspect the job (on a Sunday morning, no less), then replied that night with a description of the situation, a suggested approach, and estimated cost. He arranged his schedule to do the work within our accelerated timeframe and did a fantastic job. All the while, Al was friendly, very knowledgable, thorough, and kept me updated regularly via texts. The final cost was at the bottom end of his reasonable estimate. We're very satisfied with hiring Al to do this work. My takeaway impressions are that Al is trustworthy, knowledgeable, and really cares about the result. We'll definitely keep him in mind for future work.
Description of Work: We needed a modification to the natural gas line in our kitchen, behind our range. This was required for delivery/installation of a new gas range. Installers from the appliance retailer had requested the gas line be shortened, moved away from the floor, and a new shutoff valve be installed closer to the wall. The existing pipework was an ugly mess.

If there were a review for pending or scheduled appointments I would have gladly updated my feedback based on that portion but receiving a "Final Notice" email forced me to provide dis-honest feedback on experience we have not had. Al has been professional and responsible through our phone and texting conversations, but that is all we know right now.

+ -1 moreAl exceeded expectations on every front. From the start it was so refreshing to work with someone who was so responsive and communicated expectations and process so clearly. He quickly scheduled time to come see the job and gave us a realistic timeline from there. He ended up starting a day sooner than we had planned! Such a nice surprise. From there Al did amazing work with the job, we just kept exclaiming how the fireplace looked even better than we imagined. He had clearly done his research on the exact type of stone we would be using and knew the type of adhesive to use around a fireplace for safety purposes, as well as how to arrange the stone in the most aesthetically pleasing way. He framed the opening of the fireplace so that we'd be able to insert a screen. He was also a wealth of recommendations and knowledge about other projects we were considering - ie. bookshelves on either side and a mantle piece. I would absolutely recommend Al for any home project, no hesitation.
Description of Work: We asked Al to help us install a stone facade over our brick fireplace.

Not only did he contact me back right away but he arranged to come out to my house to take a look at the projects and provide a quote that same week. He then provided the estimate that same week and was able to schedule the work right away. That part was so important as it was so hard to find someone to do the work in a timely manner and provide and exact price. Al showed up on time for all the work and was extremely professional. He was neat and clean and worked independently (all work is done by him). The work was done impeccably. He is very detail oriented person and so professional. He thinks ahead and goes above what you ask him to do. Every project was completed as promised and in the exact time frame. It is so refreshing to have someone at your house you can trust and that works hard from start to finish. I would highly recommend him to anyone. I am so happy that we have found the perfect person for any of our household project needs. It really takes a huge weight of my shoulders for the future.

The update to the bathroom vastly improved it's appearance with removal of the old "gold" fixtures and replacement of the old mirror with one framed in wood painted to match the cabinet color. Painting of the walls and ceilings was well done. The repair to the sheetrock and construction of a new platform for the replacement hot water heater is solid and looks great. The leak from the old hot water heater had soaked the sheet rock and warped the plywood platform.

+ 0 moreAl Navarro did work for us very successfully and for over a decade at a previous residence. We moved to a new home 1 1/2 years ago such that now we are about 50 miles away. But we still call on Al to come up and do work for us on this new home when we have jobs that come up. Al is very skilled in home remodel and repair. He did some sort of major project on every room in our old home and this makes the second set of projects we've hired him to do on our new home. He can repair or replace just about anything in a home from plumbing/electrical to painting, ceilings walls, crown moulding, pretty much anything. And he does it all professionally and promptly. He installed the lights and replaced a breaker in this fairly small project day just as I've known him to do much larger projects as well. He drove 50 miles to our place, showed up on time, did the installs, checked it all out and took away all of the old materials and cleaned up the area. He's personable and friendly. He's easy to communicate with and he always points out options, variables and any potential issues. His prices are fair. We are also planning to add cabinets, drawers, etc., in a large walk in closet soon and he sat down with me on my computer to show me what to do and how to create a layout for what me might want to install in that closet. Once we make decisions on that, we will hire him again to come up and do that install. We highly recommend Al Navarro Construction for any home remodel or repair project, small or large.
Description of Work: Replaced two light fixtures on our garage ceiling with new LED, 4 foot lights. Also replaced a small outdoor light with a new, LED security light. Last, he replaced a faulty, outdoor GFCI breaker with a new unit. While working near our side garage door he noticed one of the hinges was loose and noted the screws had been stripped out when the door was first installed by a builder. He repaired that by installing new, longer screws that fixed that issue.

+ 2 moreAl is truly a professional, and ensures the work is completed perfectly. We have been very happy and plan to use him for our next project in 2016. He communicates very well, is organized, and timely. He is very capable and flexible to give you exactly what you want. For our master bathroom, he researched tub fixtures and valves to fit new handles to 25-year-old valves in our Roman tub. This was not easy, since both plumbing supply companies and the valve manufacturer were unhelpful and often wrong in what they advised. In summary, we are very pleased with his work and look forward to more projects with Al in the new year.
Description of Work: We asked Al to update 2 baths, including replacing hardware, sinks, lights, mirrors, tile, drywall, etc. Also replaced ceiling lights elsewhere in the house.

+ 0 moreI purchased quite a few knobs and pulls for my kitchen/bath nearly two years ago. They sat in a box in the closet because I didn't have the slightest idea who to hire to install them. My husband wasn't confident that he could do it himself without ruining our nice cabinets. Finally I joined Angie's List and found Al Navarro Construction. He had very good reviews so I decided to try him. Al did a superb job with the installation! First he made sure all our cabinet doors were aligned properly and fixed those that weren't. He also fixed a few drawer fronts that were loose. He came prepared with adjustable screws which we needed because the ones supplied with the hardware were not the right size. He arrived on time, was very organized and tidy and finished the job in the amount of time that he estimated it would take. Al is also a very nice person and a pleasure to have in your house. I wouldn't hesitate to use him again. My cabinets look terrific now thanks to Al Navarro!

+ -1 moreAl did a great job. The new door looks awesome. I have a few things to say about Al: 1) He was always on time or called to let me know he would be late. 2) He was incredibly neat. Drywalling is a very messy task, but the house was always spotless when he left for the day. My wife was amazed and could not stop talking about this. 3) He went above and beyond to make sure the job was done right. A small problem devleoped in the new wall, most likley due to some other heavy duty work that was being done in our house. He came back and fixed it on his own time and did not accept anything less than a perfect job. I can't recall the exact price of our job, but it probably would not be too helpful anyway, since much of the cost was for the door and hardware. I do recall thinking it was quite reasonable considering the quality of work. If you want cheap, call some random dude on craiglist. If you want somone who will show up when he says he will, and do high quality work, call Al. I highly recommned him, and have already asked him to do dome more work for me.
Description of Work: Al converted a sitting room into an office by framing out a doorway and hanging a barn-style door. This included a small amount iof demo, then he drywalled, textured and painted the wall. He also painted the door and sourced the hardware.

+ 3 moreFrom start to finish, Al did a superb job in determining what needed to be done, and how it was to be done, on the needed repairs. And he gave outstanding advice and guidance regarding the modest remodeling work we wanted accomplished at the same time. These were matters we had no previous experience with, so his advice was critically important to us. The bathroom was original to the 1971 construction of the house. Thanks to Al, we now we have a lovely, fresh and updated bathroom with new flooring, beautiful new tile around the shower and on the floor, new plumbing and fittings, new tub, etc. He also replaced the ceiling in the 1st-floor bathroom immediately below this one and did a beautiful job installing crown molding there. In addition to Al's construction skills, he has a terrific personality and a calm, professional demeanor. Due to our work schedules, we had a situation where Al usually had to be here at the house while everyone else was gone. It's indicative of how professional he is that we never gave this a second thought. Even our neurotic dog trusted him to come into the house! We will definitely contact Al first for future projects like this.

We made an appointment to do the work. During the course of doing the job, Al pointed out a couple projects that he suggested were fine as they were and deducted the estimated costs accordingly. The job became a bit more complicated when wood rot was discovered, but Al stood by his initial labor cost and only charged us for the cost of the additional materials. Our deck looks better than new now. The steps and railings are safe and sturdy and the new stain color Al applied is beautiful. When the old railings were removed, some of the original house color became visible. Al custom matched our house color perfectly. The job took three days. It was always left neat and tidy at the end of each day. When the job was complete, the gravel and stepping stones were replaced. It was a pleasure to have such a happy, talented and conscientious craftsman at our home. Thanks, Al!

I would use Al again for any project around our home. We ran into a few problems but Al found a way around them. Al paid amazing attention to detail and was very responsive to all of our concerns . His work far exceeded all of our expectations and we would highly recommend him to family and friends.

+ 1 moreWe had an awkward space next to our pool that was not only unusable, but also a hazard. The area had a large mound of dirt covered by outdoor turf, brick and tile. While Al was at the house on another project, he suggested the idea of the deck to not only extend the usable area around the pool, but also to make it a much safer area. Al had to remove most of the dirt mound to get a level start. That was a project in itself! He was able to re-purpose a large portion of the dirt to a planter box that we had in the front yard. He built the deck custom to fit the space and it was done in the time he quoted. He also suggested and used the Trex material and we couldn't be happier with it. No worries of splinters in toes! Everything went smoothly and it looks great! Not only do we now have a place for our chairs, but we don't have to worry about anybody falling down the ugly mound. We can't wait for the Summer to show it off. Thanks Al, for the great work.

+ 4 moreEverything went very well. Al is a great communicator, so every step of the way, I knew what was happening. We had a couple of unforeseen issues (doesn't everyone?), but he explained what they were and what was needed in order fix them. We had him remove our bathtub and create a walk in shower. He also needed to replace our older toilet with a low-flow model. He placed tile all around the shower, removed wallpaper (which was AWFUL because I had painted over it!), and then painted that area. We also decided along the way to ask him to replace our existing lighting, which again, was old and awful. That extended the project a little, but we were okay with that because we knew we had asked him to do some extra things. He also erected a headboard in the bedroom, again, something else extra, and it turned out beautifully. I stained boards, he put them up...at a very reasonable price. This was our first time doing a remodel and I couldn't be happier. Al has a great attention to detail, which others don't. He works clean! Even must husband noticed. He works alone, which I also like. We have a small house and a small budget and will probably work on one room at a time, but Al is our guy. He has also done some other work which I will post about, also. Thanks.

+ 0 moreI've utilized Al's services for over ten years now. He has never failed to be prompt, courteous, trustworthy, and reliable in all that time. More importantly, his work is absolutely top quality. He does everything himself. So his impeccable standards are apparent in everything he's ever done for me, which ranges from changing out ceiling fans, repairing and replacing toilets, installing blinds, doing fence repair, painting, and everything in between. Beyond that, I've noticed that he is fanatical about leaving his work area literally cleaner than how he found it, which has never ceased to amaze me! Additionally, he has a great attitude. Al always acts in a patient, friendly, and professional manner which makes him a pleasure to work with. I can't recommend Al Navarro Construction more.
Description of Work: I recently had two problems solved thanks to Navarro Construction. First, I discovered a mysterious leak on the outside of my mother's house up again the outer edge of her bathroom wall facing the backyard. I investigated, but could not find the source of the leak. The water would become an inch or two deep, dry up, and then return. It appeared to be coming out of the ground. But I was absolutely baffled as to how it was getting there. I was becoming concerned about worst-case scenarios like having to dig up half the backyard or open up huge holes in the wall or underneath the house to find the affected plumbing. At that point, I called Al for help. He came out that afternoon initially to assess the problem and give me an estimated cost of the service. However, within minutes of testing all the different faucets and sinks within both bathrooms, he noticed an unusual trickle of water coming from the shower faucet of one of the bathrooms. It really was just a trickle, and I thought it was much too small to be related. But Al told me he had a feeling that was the source of the leak. Sure enough, when Al pulled out the faucet so we could see behind it, there was indeed evidence of a trail of water leading to the outside! With the problem identified, Al actually volunteered to fix the issue on the spot. He bought a faucet from Home Depot to replace the old corroded one. And he expertly connected it to the pipe to permanently fix the troublesome leak. This problem which was causing me more and more concern was literally solved by Al within two hours upon his arrival! Needless to say, I was amazed. The second issue was only a couple of days later. I needed a toilet changed out in my upstairs bathroom. The space is small, old, and a little awkward to get into. My husband had trouble attempting to do himself years ago, so we didn't want to try again. Instead, I called Al. The next day, he came out himself, put in the new toilet hassle free, and took the old one with him on the way out. It was just so seamless it made me wonder why we ever even considered doing it ourselves. And the price was more than fair as well.
