Rock-It Surfaces was the second place I went for an estimate. I liked that I could get an estimate on the spot with just my rough measurements. Pricing was straightforward and was provided with a list of the various options by different price ranges so could quickly narrow my search by my $ budget. Steve & his team are very knowledgeable & informative and I could tell they know their stuff. They easily beat their competition with these things and made it easy to decide to go with them. From the time I decided on my selection and was ready to proceed, I was able to get the onsite measure within a few days and my new countertops within about a week. Install team did a great job & were professional. I'd recommend this company as a first stop & wouldn't hesitate to do business with them again in the future.

We purchased Dolomite/Soapstone, from "Rock - It" for our kitchen counter and we appreciated that we received accurate information about the different kinds of stone from Steve Nenzel. We researched the information about the stone we chose, to check Steve's information, and Steve was completely accurate. We also very much appreciated the excellent service from Randy who came to our home and so carefully and accurately measured our counter tops for a good fit. We initially had problems with counter tops that were not level, so Randy advised us regarding how to correct that problem. The installers, Pat and his partner were incredible. They were not rushed but took all the time necessary to do a great job. Pat came to our home twice, without being asked by us, just to be sure that we had we had the best job of disguising the joint lines. We love our new counter tops and the look and feel of the soapstone under our hands.

I just recently wrote them back for them to just tell us that they didn't want our business if they didn't want to come out and measure the counter top and give us a quote. I haven't heard back yet whether they will send someone out to measure and then give us a quote, or if they just don't want our business.
Description of Work: I requested earlier this year that someone from their shop come out and look at our countertop application, a convoluted layout. They responded with a form for me to fill out with a sketch of our countertop. I am not confident in my abilities to sketch our countertop, that's why I asked someone to come to our house, in order to get a quote from them for the job of replacing our counter top.

I appreciate your frustration in finding a good trade to do your countertops. It sounds like you have been having difficulties. I'm confused as to why you would not just call or email us after my first reply in April to let us know of your concerns about measuring yourself. We would have been more than happy to accommodate your request to take our own measurements. Below I have posted our entire communication: [Member Name Removed] wrote: (April 7, 2017) Would like you to come by our location in Mission Valley and give us a quote on new kitchen counter tops. We have chosen the material and need a pro to demo, fab, install new quartz CT and sink. (Our reply on April 7, 2017) Hi [Member Name Removed], we make it super quick and easy to get an estimate. Attached is a form that you can use to create a sketch to send to us. If you have any questions please call or email. [Member Name Removed] wrote: (September 24, 2017) I am very disappointed with your disinterest in my business, since you are quite highly-rated here at Angie's List. We have a very-convoluted layout in our kitchen for the counter top, so that is why I inquired to get someone from your shop out here to get a true read on what our price would be. I am not confident in my ability to properly sketch our layout on your form, or on any other sheet of drawing paper. I had hoped to compare your bid with others we received, since you seem to be the most highly-rated shop here. But, If you do not want our business, just say so, and we will go with the next-best shop. And by that, I don't just mean price. Hi [Member Name Removed], (our reply on September 26, 2017 - we are closed on Sunday and Monday's) I understand your issue. We sometimes run into kitchens that have many angles and are more difficult to measure for the home owner. I can have one of my crew take measurements Thursday afternoon at 1:00 pm if you can be home then? [Member Name Removed] wrote: (September 26, 2017) Sorry, we are both out working 9-5, but Fridays are sometimes a bit more flexible. Great - no complaints - would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Rock-it replaced our tile countertops with granite. Their granite is different than most (in a good way) in that it is 3cm thick, and therefore does not have any visible seams on the edges. others use thinner 2cm granite and cut and laminate the edges so they have seams running the full length of the perimeter. This is a detail that is really nice - I remember seeing my friends granite with 2cm and thinking how bad it looks compared to the 3cm approach. Much appreciated and great work getting everything installed.

We went on a Thursday to pick out our granite and by the next Friday it was complete! The men who tore apart our kitchen and bathroom were hard workers and left the place clean when they left. The men who installed the countertops were great, too! The brothers who own the place were kind and helpful with all of our questions. We HIGHLY recommend them and have nothing negative to say about the entire experience, plus our granite countertops are beautiful! Now, we are waiting for our cupboards to be painted white.

This is a family run business. The brothers are easy to work with and very professional. We liked the fact that they did it all. They have granite on site to select from. They fabricate and install the granite. We selected tile elsewhere and they ordered it, picked it up, and installed. When they realized the material we'd selected for the fireplace wasn't a good fit for the project, they worked with me to select a material that was appropriate and a beautiful solution to the problem. I've already recommended them to friends who are thinking about having work done. I would definitely hire them again. A great company to work with.
Description of Work: We had granite and backsplash installed in the kitchen as well as a fireplace surround in the family room. The unusual fireplace configuration presented challenges they worked on with us for a beautiful result.

This is a rave review for Rock-it Surfaces. Initially we were sent to various other stone fabricators and yards to find granite for our new kitchen. We found no granite that we loved at 3 of the largest stone yards in San Diego County. Rock-it Surfaces stone yard was small by comparison to the other places but the superior choices they had were amazing. We found 5 or 6 stones that we really liked and 2 or 3 that we absolutely loved. The one we chose was Netuno Bordeaux Leather. The leather refers to the finish which is not the typical high gloss stone but a subtler "soft" seeming finish. We absolutely love it with our new quarter-sawn cherry cabinets. Save yourself some time looking for granite and go to Rock-it Surfaces first. As for the fabrication of the stone Rock-it is incredibly good. There are several seams that are invisible. The measuring is done by laser and then the stone is photographed and pieced together to minimize the appearance of seams. We can not say enough about how happy we are with the choices of stones and the end product of our counter. Thank you Rock-it Surfaces.

Steven and his team did a fabulous job on our granite project. He did our kitchen, and bathroom countertops. We selected leather finish granite in 2 baths. They are very precise in measuring and fabricating. The videos they have on their website are very helpful. Advantage to 3cm granite counters is the no need for plywood underlayment which can swell when wet, also the seamless integrated front detailed edge with no silly glued or seamed bullnose. You get more granite for the money with 3cm slabs! We are very happy and highly recommend them!

The most professional contractor we've ever worked with. (1) They have a great website that shows and explains every step of the selection, measuring, manufacturing, and installation process, including educational videos. (2) The owner, Steven Nenzel was very helpful in the design process by explaining advantages and disadvantages of various stone, colors, and prices. (3) Steven gave us a printout for our job that listed both the details and total cost of the project for each different type of stone. That allowed us to make 'apples to apples' comparisons, all without worrying about hidden charges later in the process. (4) The After we made our decision on a honed Marble Quartzite, Randy came out to or home and used a state-of-the-art measurement system that created a precisely database for our kitchen layout, including variations in the walls. (5) The next amazing step was receiving an email that included two 'photographs' showing how the slabs that we selected would be cut and put together for the finished counter top. This allowed us to select which patterning we preferred. As the slabs of marble we had selected had large veins running through them, how the veins were placed was very important. For the 21' long counter with the waterfall, they created two book-matches for the top and also book-matched the waterfall to the top. We selected the design that highlighted the largest veins book-matching in the most open area of the counter top. We then sent our selection back via email. (6) A week after measuring, The installation team arrived and did a perfect job of setting the counter tops. The use of their computer generated measuring system at manufacturing made everything fit precisely. During installation, they also sealed the counter tops to the cabinets with caulk which was nice. We could not be happier with the results of our interactions with Rock It Surfaces. The counter tops are gorgeous and their installation was perfect. Every time we walk into the kitchen and see the 21' long counter top transition into the waterfall on the end with a perfect book-matched corner, we realize how fortunate we were to have selected a great company to do the job - Thanks Steven.

I am happy to say from start to finish Rock-It Surface is the company to work with, one stop, you do not work with a stone supplier and then an installer. Customer service, product selection, technology, equipment, and installing team were all the best. Two stand out points are the measuring system which generates a 3D drawing of your cabinet installation for an accurate measurement and resulting cutting on their 5 axis machine. The second is the ability to take that drawing and lay out the stone for prefect grain and surface matching. Nothing better.

Putting in a decent countertop is a huge part of a kitchen remodel. I found Quartz was the look I liked the most. I did shop around but dropped all other contacts when I found Rock -It. The main difference for me was the thickness of the slab. It is SO fat! No plywood top, no nasty seam along the edge. The guys came out and installed the counter today four days ahead of schedule! They were punctual, charming, and didn't complain about my counters being not quite level. I have one seam on the counter but it's a devil to find it!! I will never waste any more time hunting for counters when I head into the next project, this company has my business every time.

Rockit installed new granite and a backsplash in our kitchen, in a house we recently moved to. The previous granite was black with ugly visible and poorly placed seams. We couldn't be more pleased with the new granite. The quality is excellent, you really cannot see the seams unless you try hard, it looks beautiful. Helped up with design of the backsplash and that turned out absolutely stunning (tumbled travertine). They also helped us pick a new sink, a new faucet, and the end result is amazing. These are hard working people and we appreciated all their efforts. We would definitely use them again and have already referred some people.N

Initially I found them through Angies list here and would not have used them because they are 45 minutes from my house. The reviews here, and their 3cm thick granite intrigued me. Black granite shows a seam on the front edge when normal 2cm granite is doubled up on all the edges so a edge treatment can be cut into it, and to improve strength. The 3cm material doesn't require this, which actually reduces the labor cost. One estimate for my kitchen had over $1200 just for the labor to do the edge detail. Rock-It surfaces doesn't have this cost at all because their CNC robots do all the cutting at the same time, including the kitchen sink cutouts, holes, edge details, etc. They tried to talk me out of our choice of a window-sill piece, but we did it anyway and it looks great. We have a half bull-nose on all the surfaces, and a full bull-nose (full-rounded) edge on the window which make it look a bit thinner. They were concerned about water dripping down it, but we don't have water splashing all over the place, and with porcelin tile between the window-sill and the countertop, the surface is basically water-tight anyway... They also don't like doing granite backsplashes becuse of how warped most walls are. They talked us out of that idea, which I dont mind. They have all their own granite on site, and that is a great selection. They have some beautiful surfaces! If you want textured surfaces, they are really good at re-creating the texture on the front detail after cutting it (which results in a smooth cut). I had other installers say they could 'try' to texture it, but they had no confidence that they could do a good job. Mine looks perfectly matched from front edge to surface. They measured everything accurately, including my very curvy sink. One small area has an error that somehow got measured in. I would suggest looking at their proof-sheet at their office and zoom in on all the edges and corners and look for anything strange. The PDF they sent me was great overal, but didn't have the ability to see such a small error in the measurement. They will cut exactly what your cabinets or plywood shape is, so be sure everything is perfect before they come. The two installers where great. They worked all day to make it as perfect as possible. Absolutely no rush. They didn't even take a lunch, so I bought some for them while they stayed and worked. They appreciated it for sure. Great guys. Took about 7 hours of work to install all four pieces. My kitchen has no breaks, so the granite was all connected, in a 4-sided shape, including overhanging bar area that required metal re-enforcing brackets which they installed.
Description of Work: They installed texured black granite with a half bullnose throughout our kitchen. They also made a window-sill piece that came out great.

Rock-It-Surfaces helped with our major remodel in 2006 and did a beautiful job. Our kitchen was pictured on their literature and website for years. Our house burnt to the ground October 22, 2007 and only Rock-It-Surfaces was going to assist us with all the granite we were going to put into our new home. Steve and Richard Nenzel (owners) are wonderful to work with and their granite yard only carries the exotic and unusual granite from around the world. We put granite slabs in our master shower and that was a major project requiring special equipment and several people to get the slab up to the second floor bathroom. The fact that they use computer/laser templates allows precision cuts that are just amazing. Our rebuild was a major project with prolonged periods of building and Rock-It-Surfaces were unbelievably patience and a joy to work with. We gladly give them five stars out of five stars and refer them to anyone who wants to have beautiful granite in their home

The guys are friendly and easy to deal with. The work was professional and wonderfully done. The island counter top was not measured correctly, but they made a new top and gave us the other slab to use as a table. So it actually turned out to be a bonus.
