It went pretty well. I decided to go with Lowe's since I've had bad experiences with other contractors in the past. It was easier but I'm not sure if I had a better experience. There are some things that still needed worked on. The price of the job seemed awful high. I didn't like that I had to purchase all my materials through Lowe's. I like to decorate and felt that it was limiting for what I wanted to do.

On 12/21/12, I went to Lowe’s—a 20-mile round trip—to buy an over-the-range microwave oven, including installation. I had a discount coupon and quotes from other stores. Mohammad told me Lowe’s would honor either the coupon or match other stores’ prices but would not accept both, even though the coupon did not say that. They told me to go home and call them with the model # of the new oven and the model # of the oven that was to be replaced, so they could call Whirlpool to be sure the new oven would fit in the same space as the old one. On 12/24/12, I called Lowe’s to tell them the old and new model #s. Then I was told to come back to the store to make the purchase and all arrangements. On 12/26/12, I went back to the store and was told it takes 2 weeks to order this oven, but ordering would have to wait until Pacific Express came out to “detail” the project in advance of installation. I paid $40 for the detail. On 1/3/13, Jack from Pacific Express came to do the “detail,” which took less than 5 minutes. Jack said nothing would have to be done to the tile backsplash and the same vent could be used. He would notify Lowe’s and Lowe’s would contact me about installation. On 1/9/13, I got a call from Lowe’s telling me there would be a $54 charge for drilling holes in the tile backsplash. Plus, I should go back to Lowe’s to place the order for the oven, which would take 2 weeks. At this point, not having paid for the oven, and out of patience with Lowe’s ordering/installation process, I gave up and went to Home Depot, where I had a vastly better experience. Overall this was a horrible experience. The first door took over two months to arrive. When their contractor came to install it, he said the door was the wrong size. Instead of making a standard sized door, they made a door that, with the frame would fit inside the dimensions of a just standard door. So we sent that door back and Lowes promised me they would be "... all over this to make it right this time..." Door number two comes, another two months later, but this time the hinges were on the wrong side. If I elected to have it installed anyway (which they offered me a very small discount to accept) the door knob would be about 4 1/2 feet off the ground... really? Come on guys! So that door goes back and they send another one, about two months later again (in case you weren't keeping track it is now 6 months after I ordered the thing). The door is finally the right size and the contractor starts installing it... well guess what, now the contractor goofs up and drills the hole for the deadbolt on the door jamb wrong... the hole faces out to the street so all my neighbors can see what a pathetic job Lowes has done... So now the installation manager comes out to look at it and says he'll get it fixed... another month goes by. In the meantime I get a call from a survey company asking how my experience was. Surprise, I tell them it was one of the worst ones I ever had and that I wouldn't be making any major purchases from Lowes again. The part finally comes in and the door is finally done right. Then a month after I get a call from the store manager who received the results of my survey, he says he's sorry and that this incident looks like it was horrible... well they finally got something right. Then either he or the installation manager starts whining about how much money they lost on this... really? How about we compare what ended up being a weeks worth of my vacation time waiting for them to keep sending the wrong door? I know that is worth more than the profile they lost due to their own incompetence. He asks what he should do to make it right. I tell him that he knows what he can and can't do, and that he needs to step up and do what he thinks is right... apparently that meant breaking yet another promise because he said he would call within two weeks to do something to make it right and I never heard from him again.

They were extremely quick with coming to install the new one I bought from them. He cleaned up well when he was done. They were extremely helpful with information about the water heater.
