I had a pretty good experience with Westshore. Their pricing was not the lowest but reasonable. Steve came out and was extremely knowledgeable. After driving by and viewing some roofs they worked on, I decided to go with them despite the pricing. My start date was delayed due to weather then some slowness by the county inspector’s office. There was a little hiccup in communicating the delays to me but once they started I was very pleased. They got the work done in short order without hassle or issue. He even came out around 6:30AM on a Saturday to do some work. They cleaned up and the roof looks great. I didn’t have the cleanup issues that I saw on the previous post so maybe I got the A-crew. In any case, I would refer them in the future.

Our overall experience with Westshore Roofing was excellent. We interviewed numerous roofing companies and decided on Westshore given the extensive product knowledge of our sales representative, Steve Pustelnik, and the numerous positive reviews on this site. Steve guided us through all of the options on the market today - wood shake, cement shake, composition and metal shakes. Purchasing a roof today can be quite complex, given all of the individual city code regulations and roofing options, thus dealing with an expert like Steve, made the whole process much more manageable. Prior to the job starting, we worked extensively with the team at Westshore regarding what deliveries to expect, preparation needed inside and outside the house, and the overall time line of the project. Throughout the entire job, communication was excellent and everyone involved was quite professional. It should also be noted that as the roof was being installed, the project manager for our job, Joe Lucero, noticed that the roof line on one section of the house was sagging. Joe spent a great deal of time making sure that his installers corrected this problem perfectly. While it would have been much more expedient for them to not bring this issue to my attention - that was never an option since these guys have real pride in their work. I could not be more pleased with the finished product. I would recommend Westshore Roofing to anyone looking for a top quality roof at a very competitive price.
Description of Work: Replaced our existing wood shake roof with a metal Gerard Canyon shake. Another flat portion of our roof was also replaced with an IB Roofing system. All gutters were replaced and three areas of dry rot were repaired as well.

Called for an estimate for roof repair on Monday, 10/17. Unlike the other roofers that I called, Joe was able to come out the same day. He spent plenty of time explaining the options, the approximate cost, the process, how long the repairs would last, warranty, etc. Very professional, very friendly. The work team showed up on Wed, actually one day earlier than I had expected. Very quickly, the work team predicted that the amount of replacement shingles needed would be about 2 times more than Joe had estimated. Of course, I told them to proceed anyway as the work was needed. I later called Joe who explained his estimate process which is primarily based on total area, but he went on to say that he did not realize how bad the roof really was. He apologized about the under estimate and agreed to provide a small discount. The incorrect estimate is the primary reason why I rated the Price as B. The team completed the work in two days. They were incredibly friendly, informative, and clean. They explained how many of the existing shingles were not nailed to the roof sub-structure, but they would ensure good coverage with the replacement shingles. I was also surprised to see that they had painted the chimney flashing and the ventilation pipes a nice tan/green color which makes the roof look even better. I would recommend Westshore Roofing and will use them again - excellent work.

My wife had the most interaction with Westshore and really liked the rep who gave us the estimate. The roof itself looks good and seems to have been done well. Here are the issues we had. There was very little contact/notice about when work would start or finish. We were given a window and then a crew just showed up and started working. Daily cleanup was half-hearted. Tools and materials were left around the yard. Once the removal crew was done they left a rake, ladder, and tarp behind. We contacted Westshore about it and they said it wasn't their problem since they apparently subcontract the removal. We still have the items. A competing company came back with a slightly lower bid but we went with Westshore because the rep seemed like a good guy. The other company also offered to take $1000 off if we let them put a sign in the yard [we live on a somewhat busy street]. Westshore put up a sign without asking and didn't offer us anything. One of the workers put a hole in the roof over the garage. They didn't report it or fix it. I had to point it out to them after which they simply nailed a piece of wood over the hole. Clean up after work was done was terrible. I've picked up dozens of nails around the yard and in the garage.

The work was scheduled and started on time. The nature of the work had some unknowns - roof line was sagging and we needed to find out why. After the old composite shingles had been removed, the reason for the sagging roof line was clear - dry rot. While removing the rotted plywood, the roofers also noticed that the plywood was charred, but not clear from what. They provided pictures of the area on the roof as well as the damaged plywood so we could confirm what the roofers were seeing. Since the charring was near the chimney, we asked them to remove the wood around the chimney and check the area there and that area appeared to be fine. They then replaced the plywood on the roof and put on new shingles as well as a new ridge vent to improve airflow. Westshore also handled all of the permits required. One strong positive for Westshore was that Steve Pustelnik was very good about communicating with us as the job progressed. When problems were found, Steve contacted us immediately and made sure we understood what the problem was and what our options were for resolution. As an aside, while the work was going on at our house, my parent's house had a raccoon tear up part of their wood shingle roof. We recommended Westshore roofing to them and Westshore was able to make emergency repairs on their roof in a timely manner. We would definitely work with Westshore again and we have already recommended them to others.

I had estimates from six companies and Westshore Roofing's estimate was the best. They were very professional and responsive when we were negotiating the details of the project. He really stands out because he had a diagnostic tool that zeroed on where my leak was coming from in my ceiling. I think that was really important. I don’t know if someone else would have had that. We found them through Angie's List. They were very thorough in explaining what the options were. They went through the contract process and explained everything. They were very personable. They were available when we called to ask questions. They followed up on any issues that we had. I think we had one issue with the gutters as they had not actually sealed them. They made sure that it was done. They were very responsive when there was an issue. They also did a cleanup as there was a lot of debris around the house. Sometimes it looked like they didn't always come out when they said they would. Sometimes there was a bit of a disconnect between the project manager and the person who used to come out.

The overall work went on very well. I was very happy with them. The inspections and everything was on time and I did appreciate them for that. They were very professional and very knowledgeable. We have very freaking issues that needed to be solved and also wanted to incorporate other roofing solutions and they came out with very good and clever solutions. Their service was very good and they also did some dry wall and they didn’t charge us for that. The bill was exactly as the estimate. I would rate them high overall and would use them in the future if needed.

I got Westshore from Angie's List. Overall, the job went great. They were very responsive and responsible. They did what they were supposed to do quickly and porfessionally. I had a little bit of difficulty with the gutters but when I showed it to them they said they would have someone fix it immediately. They said they would be here this week to do that. I have no reservations with dealing with them. They have a large number of crews available to do the job. Their sales and foreman coordinated very nicely. The communication was very smooth in person, by email and by phone. When we had a question they did respond very quickly.

We are very happy with our new roof and are completely satisfied with our selection of WESTSHORE ROOFING, INC! Considering that a new roof is a large investment that protects an even larger investment (your home), we felt that the most important factor was to find a professional company that would do the job right at a fair price. We started with Angie's List, which was very helpful in narrowing down our choices. We invited four "A" rated companies to provide estimates - one of which never showed up. We spent time with each company to get a feel for their professionalism, expertise and integrity, as well as the details on the specific steps and materials that they would use if selected. Westshore Roofing stood out head and shoulders above the other companies. Westshore Roofing's project manager, Steve Pustelnik, promptly contacted us to arrange for a convenient date and time. He was very punctual, courteous and knowledgeable. Steve took the time to explain everything in very simple terms. He also helped alleviate any concerns we had by explaining the process from start to finish, as well as options, key watchouts and steps we could take to verify reputable business standing for the companies we were considering. When we received all three estimates, Westshore's was not only the most detailed, but it also demonstrated their commitment to the little details. For example, steps that would be taken each day before leaving, including magnetically sweeping the site to remove any left over nails and ensuring the house was watertight in the event of any rain before the next day's work (which in fact happened during our job and this extra step gave us peace of mind!) After we selected Westshore Roofing to be our choice of roofer, Steve met with us to review the different style and color options. He even took us around the neighborhood to show us examples, which gave us a much better idea of the final look versus just looking at a small sample piece of roofing laminate. Steve proactively kept in contact with us along the whole way to let us know the crew's schedules, progress and next steps. When the crew discovered some dry rot underneath the original roof (previously undetectable), Steve not only contacted us to let us know the extent of the rot, but he also made us aware of the possibility to submit a claim against the original roof's manufacturer and they took before and after pictures to help support any damage claims. With the new roof complete and the winter rains beginning to come more frequently, we are extremely happy with the results and our choice to have Westshore Roofing as our partner. We DEFINITELY recommend Westshore Roofing to anyone considering roof repairs or replacement. You will find them to be very professional, honest, responsive and easy to work with. Most of all, you can trust them to do the job right, from start to end. thank you Westshore Roofing! - Bob and Laura Wong

The reason that the price was $11650 instead of $9000 was because I went with the commercial grade vinyl roof as opposed to the residential. The cart was known as IB roofing which was supposed to be a whole lot better than the old ones that most people had. It came with a seven year warranty and I hope it would be the last roof I ever bought. So far, I have been very happy with it. I liked that the owner of the company came out several times to look at how things went. They solved some interesting problems on the roof that one would not necessarily have on other kinds of roofing. I liked the fact that they were able to solve problems that were not straight forward. It was hard for me to say anything on the price as I ddn't know what price it should have been. I would recommend them to other members.

WE asked 3 contractors to give us an estimate and how are they going to fix the problem. Based on their recommendations we decided to hire Joe at Westshore. He has the highest estimate among the three contractors but with more extensive description to fix the problem. He did what he said he would do and he also cleaned the gutter of our outdoor kitchen which was not included in our contract. Joe is easy to work with.I asked him so many questions while working on the roof and he's very patient in explaining to me what they did.My overall experienc with Joe and his team is very good. It could have been perfect but they were not able to finish this project in 2 days as he promised. It took them a week but it's fine with me as long as they will do a great job which I think they did.

The result is a beautiful roof that I am happy to look at every time I drive by the rental. I will call Westshore soon for a bid on the repair of the roof of another house that I own.
Description of Work: The owner of Westshore Roofing prepared a bid in writing and took his time explaining the options available and the process of putting on the new roof. He was very thorough and answered all questions. The work was done on our rental house which is next door to our house. I was not home during the day when the work was done and did not have first hand experience of what the process was like. Our renters, who are home with small children, were happy with the way the job went and did not complain about anything.

Overall experience was very good. Steve made the estimate and was detailed in his assessment and helpful in recommendations. He did an excellent job of making sure the correct work was done on the home; there was no need for me to request any changes after work was started. Added two extra bathroom vents for planned future projects as promised in perfect location. Work was coordinated with installation of two new skylights, and Westshore did an excellent job of adjusting their schedule to allow the skylight contractor to complete work. Scheduling was accurate in terms of project start date. Roofing job was completed with very good quality overall. Cleanup was delayed by 2-3 days after project completion but was done well. There were a few small points to mention: 1) The job took a few (2-3) extra days due to coordination of all the various teams - notably, the gutter crew was otherwise occupied and so took some extra time to arrive at our home and do the job. 2) The estimate was for removal of one layer of cedar shake roof which was incorrect and led to additional charges. During work, they discovered that there were two layers and charged us full price for removal of the second layer. In their defense, they were not able to go inside the garage during the estimate to look for the second layer. However, two other contractors had thought there were indeed two layers.
Description of Work: Removal of two layers of cedar shake roof; placement of new underlayment. Installation of 40 yr dimensional composition roof with ridge vent system. Removal of old gutters and downspouts and installation of new 5" aluminum gutters and new downspouts.

The work was done by multiple crews (demolition, shake roof, flat roof, and cleanup) with no onsite supervision. The contractor in charge never moved from behind his desk. They started demolition a few days early (giving me no time to prepare the interior for dust and debris) then the crews sat around for most of a week waiting for materials. Flat roof materials arrived first, and this crew did an outstanding and quick installation. Gutters were delayed due to a non-functioning machine and were installed by an equally competent crew a few days later, albeit without downspout filters or ladder guard. I ended up buying and installing the filters myself and they billed me extra for the ladder guard (contradicting the salesman) which took them a month to accomplish. With no supervisor on site, I took it on myself to learn about shake roof installation which did me little good because I don?t speak Spanish. They started with the wrong stables for fire retardant shake and charged me extra for the right ones. The crew actually asked me for a copy of the installation manual, which alas was in English (but did have pictures). As I watched they installed the starter row correctly and the first few rows were tightly spaced and in straight lines. Breathing a sigh of relief I turned away only to look up the next day at the finished product with wavy lines, large spacing and misshapen shake that should have been tossed. I must say, however, the ridges are perfectly straight. But inside the attic the new vent holes look like they were carved out with a hatchet and they installed a vent in my garage (which I had to seal off). They also neglected to install a spark arrester on my chimney (which they charged extra for in spite of what the salesman said) and they failed to caulk around any holes covered with flashings which caused the job to fail inspection. It took a full month and non-payment of $8K to finally get the job completed sufficiently to pass inspection. The roof does not appear to leak and new shake always looks good, so I?d say they did an adequate job, barely. But the lack of supervision, delays and failure to pass minimal inspection is a far cry from the best available, quality job I thought I was buying. This company is all about cutting corners at the customer?s expense. They did the roof across the street and it looks good, so when they were low bidder I should have known better.
Description of Work: They removed an old shake roof (and composite roofing underneath), tar and gravel flat roof, and gutters. Then installed new shake roof (heavy, premium Teal, class B) with new attic vents, membrane roof on flat portion (IB 50 mill), and new aluminum gutters (0.032”) and downspouts.

I think they did a very complete job. They provided a packet with all of the types of roofs they do and what all the various things are that are included in the price. They include cleanup, tear down, gutters, a warrantee, and other stuff. I?m still searching but they are probably the leading candidate. I've talked to at least a half dozen roofers and they certainly did the best of all of them.

The estimate was to be complete in 3-5 days, they where done in two. They did some extra demolition work and hauled the waste as a kicker in the deal. The owner came to our house twice prior to signing and was very informative about roofs and the roofing business in general. Honored his initial estimate even though it was 3 months old.
Description of Work: Westshore replaced the roof, gutters, and raised the insulation level in the attic.
