Quick and efficiently. I've used Paul for 2 or 3 washer-dryer items over the past year or so and he is always punctual, professional, and his repairs work! Prices are in-line with others and seems like reliability has been better. Very easy to work with.
Description of Work: Replaced a pump in a Fisher-Paykel washer. Also fixed an element in my oven.

Aside from the fact that he was late and didn't call to let me know he would be, everything was great! My 4 yr old washing machine is in the garage and was encountered by a car bumper one too many times. The dent was significant enough that it prevented the lid from latching so the machine wouldn't work. I talked to many different appliance repair people over the phone, and they either didn't work on Fisher-Paykel appliances or they didn't do dent repair. To replace the cabinet it would cost $250 (part) and ???? (labor). West Coast Service was the only one that fit both criteria. When I talked to Paul, I told him I wasn't keen on the idea of replacing a $250 part, especially since no one but me and my car see the washing machine anyway. He came out, fixed the dent, and made sure that everything was in working order (even put a load of towels in to test it out), I mentioned that I get hot water when I wash on the cold water setting, and he figured out that the hoses had been installed to the presumed correct spigots, but determined that the spigots had been placed in the opposite order originally. Switcho changeo and everything is working perfectly! I agree with another reviewer that Paul really knows his way around washing machines. Somewhere along the line it came out that he worked for Maytag 40 years ago, so that implies to me that he really knows his stuff. I was most impressed by the fact that he didn't try to sell me on the more expensive repair for the sake of cosmetic beauty. She may not be beautiful, but she works great!
Description of Work: Took out a large dent in my washing machine, checked out why I was getting warm water when the washer was on the cold water setting.

Not getting it all fixed the first time was a disappointment but not having the noise present when he was here to do the repair was out of his control. After the second visit it did get repaired so I'm not sure that what I paid him for the first visit was accurate for the work performed due to the pump wasn't acting up for him nor was it replaced and I paid for its replacement. (It worked out in the end... I think?)
Description of Work: Washer repair - washer making noise during spin/draining cycle and water drippin into tub even with all faucet valves turned off.. Noise wasn't present so the drip was repaired. Noise came back immediately afterwards so they had to return to repair.

Description of Work: The thing that impressed me was that he told me how I could fix the most expensive part of the problem myself and it worked. He also suggested something on another appliance which also cleared the problem. He came back later and fixed one other thing. The expenditure was for two visits. The $91 initial service call seemed high to me. I don't remember the work date, just stuck in a random date to make you happy.

The proprietor was polite, professional, and easy to talk with. It seems like he's been in the business a long time and knows his way around dishwashers. Since his repair, we have not had any more problems with and quot;intake/drainand quot; errors.
Description of Work: Our Miele dishwasher was consistently getting the "intake/drain" error light, and we were unable to fix it following the troubleshooting from Miele, West Coast Service came out and analyzed the problem, looking up the error code (he had a special tool). He concluded that it was because the anti-siphon valve on the sink was restricting the fast flow of drain water. To fix it, he bypassed the anti-siphon valve, saying the dishwasher already had the equivalent valve built-in.

If you have a Fisher-Paykel, Paul is your guy. First let me say, there are not many providers who service Fisher-Paykel. Those who do are very expensive. I called all of the Fisher-Paykel service providers I could find, and I also called customer service (who has their own service provider in the area). All of them said they needed to send someone out to diagnose the problem, even though the problem is straight forward and well documented in my model of washing machine. This diagnosis would cost anywhere between $95-$130 dollars, and did not include any labor charges. After I paid for the diagnosis, they would give me their estimate. After needling for details, I was able to conclude that these companies would charge a minimum of $300. Then I called Paul at West Coast. He gave me a firm $250 estimate, had the part, installed it the next day, and charged precisely $250! Very refreshing after dealing with all of these other providers. Also Paul is a factory authorized provider and a very nice guy. I recommend him without reservation.

We have a Miele G892SC dishwasher for 8 years and it had its first problem when an intake line fault light came on. I followed the homeowner service manual instructions and cleaned filters and checked that pumps weren't blocked. The error message is very general and it is clear that there can be many causes to trigger the fault. Finally, resorted to last step which was to call a repairmen. Check Angie's list found West Coast Service with excellent rating, and another review mentioning Miele. Called in late AM, talked to who I believe was the wife of the repairmen, very pleasant, clarified the visit charges, and was able to schedule his coming the next day in afternoon. Paul Choate came on time, and could not find a clear cause. He cleaned things up more, and reset the dishwasher and gave a 60 day warranty, and reduced the visit charge since he didn't stay over 30 minutes. That night it failed again, he came the next day and pulled out more parts, and found a housing which showed some sign of seepage (a very small leak), and agreed to have it replaced. Paid for the part and labor minus a labor credit from the previous visit. It worked for 1 day day and failed again, he came again and pulled out the entire dishwasher, and laid by it for awhile, finally he heard a faint noise and could hear the pump was running when it was supposed to be off. (NOTE: the Miele is a very quiet dishwasher, one of the main reasons we bought it). Paul then replaced the pump system, and offered a credit for the other part since it was not the cause. Being that i saw leakage, he consulted with me, and it was a part that commonly gets replaced, we didn't take the credit. However, I was extremely glad he proactively volunteered that (how many times I would wish auto mechanics had that type of responsibility). We were quite pleased with Paul's professional and courteous service. On time, reasonable charges, and responsible for his work... a real test is how they respond when things don't go so easy, and Paul passed that with flying colors.
Description of Work: The original call was for an Intake Drain error on a Miele Dishwasher. 1st visit: diagnosis error message, cleaned & tested, reset dishwasher 2nd visit: replaced a housing showing signs of leaking 3rd visit: replaced pump system

It is working great. Paul guarantees the service call price for 30 days, so if he had needed to come back to do further repairs, I wouldn't have had to pay the service call price. This is important because knowing that cost was a big concern for me, he did only what he thought was needed. He also passed on some good tips about large appliances. He even took a quick peek at my broken dishwasher while he was here but didn't do any work on that. I highly recommend West Coast Repair.
Description of Work: The inside tub of my 35 year-old Maytag washing machine was stuck and would not spin. I also smelled burning rubber. Paul "unstuck" the drum and replaced a belt in the bottom. He said an overhaul was not necessary.

My Miele dishwasher had an "intake drain" error. I called a couple of other shops and they both referred me to Paul at West Coast as the only person who works on Miele's in the San Jose area. I then called Miele to check on the warranty status and Miele also recommended West Coast. Miele also diagnosed the problem over the phone and sent Paul an email. However, that fix did not work when Paul tried it. In fact, the dishwasher at first would not generate the same error. Paul was very patient, though, and after several tries, got the same problem we had been seeing. He fixed the problem and also cleaned out all the lines. I appreciate that he understoond there really was a problem and that he took the time to find it.

I've used West Coast Service twice, and had excellent service both times. Paul is prompt, thorough, pleasant, and happy to answer all my questions. He's also very good about explaining what to do to prevent problems that may come up later. My husband is usually able to fix anything that breaks around the house, but I'm thrilled to find someone so kind and dependable to call when my husband isn't able to do the job. I'd absolutely recommend this company to anyone.

I'm pleased. Cooking is much easier when you have an appliance that works as well as it is supposed to. And after Paul's tune-up, everything works perfectly!
Description of Work: Paul came to repair our Viking Range which was not heating up past 325 degrees. He came on time and not only repaired the part of the range that was not working; he did a thorough check of the entire oven and stove and adjusted everything. The Viking has never worked as well as it is now after his work. My husband was here for the repair and he said that Paul explained everything, including his guess that the range was never working correctly since we bought the house. My husband was very impressed with his work and we will definitely use this company again!

THE TECHNICIAN WHO VISITED DISCOVERED THAT THE DISHWASHER PUMP WAS NO LONGER FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. HE EVEN VOLUNTEERED THE INFORMATION THAT THIS PART WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY SO HE FIXED IT FOR FREE. HE DID HOWEVER NOTICE THAT I'D BROKEN OFF SEVERAL PLASTIC CLIPS ON THE TOP DRAWER AND WAS ABLE TO REPLACE THOSE FOR ME (FOR A CHARGE.)
Description of Work: I CALLED THEM FOR A REPAIR SERVICE CALL ON MY ASKO DISHWASHER. THE WASHER WAS NOT DRAINING PROPERLY.
