At first they said they could do fiberglass, which we preferred, then later called back to say they couldn't (which is what another vendor, Premier, had already known). Fiberglass is preferable for energy savings, but it couldn't handle the lock set we had selected. So we have fir doors, painted. Viking couldn't do the painting, but arranged transportation to Finishes Unlimited, which was a good referral. Then we heard nothing for a long time, and it turns out the woman who had ordered the doors for us had left Viking! Finishes Unlimited kind of took over arrangements for us. Viking's installer Ken brought the doors from Finishes Unlimited, and was pleasant and did a great job. Finishes Unlimited came to do the final touch-up. We originally had an estimate done at Premier, and thought his estimate was way too high, but when all was said and done we ended up spending the same or more with Viking/Finishes Unlimited combined. $3700 for new front doors-ouch!! But they are beautiful, look great, work great. No complaints on finished product. Just took two months and lot of money! Had we known that VIking couldn't do fiberglass and it would end up costing the same we probably just would have gone with Premier. I can't remember the guy's name, but he does ALL of the work himself.
Description of Work: Replaced our double front entry doors.

My husband and I started our ?door project? between Christmas and New Year?s, 2011. We needed a more secure and better fitting person door into our garage. The door between our garage and home interior did not stay closed. My husband wanted all the doors keyed the same, so we decided to have the front door hardware changed out to match the other knobs and deadbolts. We only looked on Angie?s List for a company to do this job. We decided to contact Viking Door & Window and A&B Doors only, as they were the closest to our home and I did not want to pay extra for an out of area service charge. Both companies told me right up front they were very, very busy. So I knew there would be delays in the process. I called A&B Doors first and spoke to Dan. He was very professional, asked a lot of questions, and guided me in making the measurements he needed to give me a rough estimate. I never felt he was talking down to me because I was a woman. I talked to Sam when I called into Viking Door and Window. He asked me a lot of questions, asked for some measurements, looked at some photos I sent him via my iPhone and was able to give me a rough estimate, enough for me to know their pricing was competitive. Both Dan and Sam ask many questions about what kind of door I wanted and what kind of knobs and hardware. Not knowing anything about such choices, I visited the A&B Doors showroom first. Dan was not available, but another salesman (who was very sick that day) showed me around and explained the basics to me. Dan followed up with me a day or two later and told me Matthew was the one who would come by and take actual measurements to create an order. Matthew never called. I called and left a message for him twice (the last time 1/31/2012). I was not upset. I was told early on they were very busy. When I was in their showroom, everyone was very busy. I am sure Matthew was very busy. Meanwhile, Sam at Viking Door WAS following up with me. Viking Door & Window?s showroom was overwhelming. Actually, the choice of doors and knobs and deadbolts on the market is overwhelming. Sam gave me basic information, answered all my questions and helped me keep the selections simple. I am very grateful for his help in selecting the door, knobs and hardware. Sam had Ken, the installer call me to make an appointment to come out and take firm measurements and talk to me about the job. Ken needed to explain about the door frame because there may have been stucco damage that would influence the job. We also needed to discuss how to add a door between the kitchen and living room/dining room, where there was no door. Ken was really awesome. He, too, did not talk down to me because I was a woman. I fully understood what he was explaining and I was able to communicate to him what we wanted. I did not believe Sam would be able to put the information Ken had given him into an estimate accurately but he did. Sam created a detailed, itemized estimate complete with diagrams, drawing and pictures. Our formal estimate was written up February 6h, 2012. My husband and I took a few days to discuss the contract. We felt it was a bit high in a couple of areas and brought it back to Sam. Sam made those changes happen. At that point, it would have been at least two weeks before Ken could get to our job. Fortunately, I was traveling from mid- February through mid-March so the work was scheduled for March 20th and 21st, 2012. Because our ?door project? covered the course of 3 months, I was able to change my knob and knob finish selection order in time to meet our new homeowner association guidelines. Yeh! The work was actually done a day later, March 21st then that Friday, March 23rd. Ken always let me know what he was doing and when he would do it. He brought a helper, Alex, with him on the job. We are very satisfied with the Emtek knobs and deadbolts we selected. They feel hefty in our hands and are comfortable to grasp. Because they are new, the parts that turn are a bit stiff, but are already more comfortable to use. The new backdoor swings like a dream, I don?t have to bang it with me hip to close it anymore. All the angles match up; everything is aligned and works beautifully. I did not even think it could look and work so well. My husband and I were trying to decide what kind of door to have between our kitchen and living room/dining room. We tentatively agreed to swinging café door but did not know if they would work. When I went to pick up the estimate and ask Sam about it, he had already written swinging café doors into the estimate! The new café swinging doors are amazing. Again, they were hung perfectly in the frame Ken, himself, created in the doorway. They look great in the doorway and enhance the look of the living room/dining room. They do need to be painted now. Again, we knew painting was not included. At Viking Door & Window, we worked with Sam Chapin, salesperson; Eva, an admin.; Ken and Alex, the installers. All were very professional and operated with integrity. The materials used were very good quality. The workmanship far exceeded our expectations. We would use them again and highly recommend them.
Description of Work: This is the work we had done: 1. Our garage person door and door frame replaced. 2. The front door, new back door and garage to house interior door knobs and deadbolts were replaced. 3. Ken created cafe swinging doors between our living room/dining room and kitchen where no doors had been before. All the labor and other hardware was included (hinges, door bottoms, etc). Painting was not included and we were told that right up front.

Overall everything went great. There was a minor scheduling problem but that was caused by the door supplier not shipping the door when expected. Viking was able to promptly work around that and minimize the delay. Installation went faster than promised. They met all my requests to add extra insulation and repaired an additional door at no charge. All the windows and door look great with very positive comments by friends and neighbors. Functionally the windows and door slide very easily/smoothly as well as keeping the house 25 - 30 degrees cooler on our hottest day so far (103 as measured in our back yard). When we do our skylights I won'y hesitate to call Kevin.
Description of Work: Replaced all our windows and a patio door (8 foot) with energy efficient windows/door. Repaired an additional door free of charge and added weather strip to the same door at cost.

I was building a new house. They came out and measured all the doors and checked the plans. Six weeks to get the first delivery which would have been OK except that six doors were the wrong size; so another six weeks to get replacements; but Viking said that they were never ordered, so another six weeks; two additional doors added to that order did not arrive, so another six weeks; finally, the stain grade door is awful; the alder grain is blotchy and unusable. Because of the ordering foul-ups and the delivery foul-ups, I have to give this company the poorest evaluation.
Description of Work: Manufacture and deliver 23 interior doors, all paint grade primed, except one stain grade.

Terrible service.
Description of Work: The sales representative came on site to check the swing of the door. He made a mistake and got the wrong door. He was at first unwilling to change that door. Finally, he came out and took the wrong door on one Wednesday. I was not there at the time. Only some contractors working there. The sales rep did not leave any estimate date when the correct door will be delivered. I kept calling. Finally, I reached a manager on Saturday. The manager said the door should be ready by Monday and he would call me. But I didn't hear from him. I kept calling him that week but couldn't reach him. The receptionist also just told me she would call back but actually never call back. I asked to speak to the manager. He said he would deliver the door the following day and would call me half an hour before they deliver it. Guess what? They didn't deliver the door and didn't call back either.
