I am very sorry you felt there was a bait and switch. You couldn't be further off though. My company has been providing excellent and ethical service for 50 years I am proud to say. If you take a look at the header of our webpage it clearly states "free estimates on new installations.". I decided to add this to our drop down selection on our appointment page to avoid any future confusion. Yes, for diagnosis we cannot provide free estimates, and I really don't know any companies that do. Also, the response time was due to the holiday weekend. It clearly states that you will not receive a call back over weekends and holidays. I apologize if this was not clear. Being that this was purely a misunderstanding, I don't agree with your rating of an F for our company. It hurts our rating and it doesn't have to do with a personal experience with our services. I would really appreciate it if you reconsidered this. Also, since we did not have the information clear enough regarding our free estimates, I am more than happy to extend a one time free diagnosis to you. Just email or call me directly to set this up wit in the next 90 days. Sincerely, Cindy Faulkner, President

Overall, it went well, though it dragged on longer than we expected. The initial installation went well. The guys were on time, cleaned up after themselves and were focused on doing a good job. They made an effort to keep the dust down to a minimum by covering up furniture when they had to cut into the wall and ceiling to move the intake areas. The surprise came when the city inspectors came out. They found five areas where the work wasn't completed properly. They observed that the installers did not even open the installation directions. Valley was quick to get the installers back out to make the necessary repairs, but it was still annoying. The delay meant that we didn't pass inspection until the end of August. Just the same, we are thrilled with the heater and a/c. It's a great system!
Description of Work: Old heating and cooling systems removed from house. Installed new heater, coil and condenser. Moved one intake area and expanded the other one. Pulled permits with the city of San Jose.

I requested a quote and appointment online after hours through the provider's online contact form. I never got any response, despite the confirmation page's statement, "Your Service Request has been sent. An Old Fashioned Service Representative(TM) will contact you either by phone or email Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. to schedule your appointment." I gave them a D instead of an F because at least their lack of responsiveness didn't happen to an existing customer. If they don't want new business that's their decision, but the company needs to step up their monitoring of online requests, or needs to forgo offering an online contact form. Their competitor, Heritage Heat & Air/Air Serv Heating and A/C, was prompt in returning my request early the next morning and I was very pleased with their service, especially during a holiday week.
Description of Work: I had two old floor heaters that I needed lit for the winter from under the house, plus an old wall heater that hadn't been used for several years that I needed checked out.

Please accept our sincere apologies. We did not receive an online request form from you. I am not sure what happened, but it could defintiely be something on our end. We did receive quite a few requests between Thursday and Sunday online, but your request was not one of them, which really concerns me. We appreciate you comments, and completely understand your sentiment. Unfortunately, it was out of our control. I am very happy to hear you were able to schedule an appointment and get heat. I would really appreciate the opportunity to regain your confidence. If you are willing to give us another opportunity in the future, please contact me directly, and I will be happy to extend a 50% off maintenance, or diagnosis. Your business and your satisfaction is important to our entire team at Valley. It was a pleasure dealing with everyone at Valley...from Serena in the office, Art the estimator, and Robert the installer. They were all able to answer my questions and accommodate my requests to my utmost satisfaction. The installation was excellent. The only recommendation I would make to Valley is that some vacuuming of the work area be done upon job completion. Otherwise, they exceeded my expectation.

Valley knows us by now so we didn't have to accompany them to the rather hidden site. They arrived as scheduled and checked out the problem. This had been a difficult furnace to fix as it is a propane furnace. When their initial fix did not work, they sent out a supervisor who didn't charge for the house call. All is well now.
Description of Work: Renters complained of gas smell in basement, and as Valley had repaired the furnace, we had them back to check it. There were no leaks. It was just an ignition byproduct and harmless.

Because we were out of town, we failed to follow up as we should have done. When we did contact the Valley Heating in 2010, we found them both responsive and courteous. Also they agreed to refund the money we paid. As it now appears, the problem we encountered was a result of misunderstanding. Since effectively there was no service, it seems that we cannot fairly rate its overall quality. The $89 charged was high from our point of view, but probably not much out of line for visiting the house. And it was our fault that Valley Heating and Cooling did not have an opportunity to respond to our dissatisfaction, since we didn't get in touch. Thus it seems to me that Valley Heating and Cooling deserves an A rating for responsiveness and possibly for price as well. For quality the most appropriate rating is not applicable.
Description of Work: Valley Heating and Cooling called to make an appointment to service and inspect our furnace when we were out of town for several months in 2008. There was confusion about whether and how the appointment was authorized. In any case, when the technician arrived, he said that he could not work with the kind of furnace we have, it is a furnace that heats hot water that circulates under the floor in an Eichler home. Under the circumstances though the technician kept the appointment punctually, we were unhappy about the charge.

They come in to check the furnace and the AC once a year in March. They have been good so far. Since, I have terrible allergies, I spoke to them before I could get the furnace and the AC installed. So, they recommended some special filters on the furnace and a UV light on my central air conditioning system. It helped me tremendously and it was something that impressed me a lot. The person I spoke to said that at that time the UV light was just being developed and it would undoubtedly be available in a couple of years. They were very helpful. I used to pay them each time when they came in to check, but this year they suggested me to go in for the 5 year plan, as it was less expensive. I will definitely use their services in the future as well.

They were prompt. They came in and delivered the type of equipment they said they were going to do and hooked it up. We will use them again in the future.

I had used Valley Heating for duct vacuuming almost 2 years ago. Recently decided to replace the furnace and AC and got estimates from two companies. Decided to go with Valley since it was a company I used in the past and they had good reviews online, including BBB. Estimator came out on a Friday and I scheduled the work for the next Thursday and Friday. On Thursday, a crew of 3 installers with 2 vans came out. Since they had 3 guys, they were able to finish in 1 day. The head installer Ray was very professional and answered all my questions. They put drop cloths down everywhere they went in the house and made sure to close the bedroom doors to reduce the amount of dust that got in there. The install went well and they explained everything about the system to me at the end. The install crew really worked hard and went above and beyond what was required. In the past, a plumber told me one of my ducts was off under the house. I asked if they could check the duct work while they were under the house and they did find one duct that was misaligned. The installer aligned it back up, put it in some screws and put some duct tape on it. Only some minor issues to note. First, the total bill came in 10 dollars more than the proposal. Not really sure what it was for since it was a lump packaged price, but I didn't think it was a big deal since the installers fixed the duct mis-alignment for me. Also during the initial estimate, the estimator said the thermostat was touchscreen, but prior to accepting the proposal, I looked up the model number on the web and knew it was not a touchscreen. Not a big deal for me. All in all, the issues raised above were very minor. I am completely satisfied with the end result. It was very refreshing to have an installation crew that really cared about what I wanted rather than trying to take short cuts that I wouldn't notice to get the job done in a hurry. One last example of this is that the installer had a return air grill that was not the size that I needed. He called the shop and the correct size was brought out to the job site.

It went very well from start to finish. The estimator was pleasant, informative and efficient. I had two bids and theirs was the lowest by around $700. They schedule a bidder right away, scheduled the job right away and showed up on time. The two installers worked hard all day long. It was a big job, much bigger than I expected. The newer efficient heaters make a lot of condensation which requires more ventilation that needed to be installed and dug out. They worked hard for most of the day. The only issue was the clean-up of the job. They didn't clean up well at all and they accidentally got some stains on my patio and on my inside stairs. I wouldn't have been upset had they told me, but they didn't. I called the company and they sent out a supervisor to try and fix the problem. He worked on it for a while and cleaned up a little of the mess. He offered me a free furnace cleaning next year for my trouble. I accepted. The best thing was that the owner called me up personally and apologized for the problems (which really were minor but needed to be addressed). She said that she understood my frustration and that she believe clean-up is *really* important, too. She wanted to work hard to earn my business back. She was great. Overall, I think the installer had an 'off day' and that the company probably does great work any other day and if there is a mistake made, they will make it up to you.
Description of Work: Their furnace maintenance guy (who was great (Rich)) noticed three hairline fractures in my heat exchanger. That's a fire hazard when it gets bad enough and released carbon monoxide into your house (bad). They bid on and installed new Bryant Furnace.

Initial removal of old ducts and replacement with insulated duct went ok, but crawlspace odor still persisted coming from registers and return grills. Called contractor 3 more times over next 6 months, each time they inspected the initial duct replacement and could not find any problem. I had even called and requested "the EXPERT"- most senior troubleshooter, who could not find any problem. Each person who came out spent 30-45 minutes in the crawlspace. They also tried sealing all cracks in furnace with tape. I had contacted another contractor to investigate. He showed me the poorly installed duct, improperly sealed joints, duct tape not even sticking to ducts, garbage left by workers under house. I went under the house after FIRST turning on the fan, and crawled over to the closest duct seam. I could feel air being sucked in with my hand. None of the workers had even bothered turning the fan on before crawling under the house. How could they determine previous work done was ok?
Description of Work: Crawlspace odor was noticeable from heat registers AND return grills, even when fan was not running. Ducts had been cleaned with 3 different contractors other than Valley Heating, 3 years in a row. Valley Heating recommended replacing old 3-sided duct due to possible leakage in old ducting. Replace 3-sided ducting with 2 12-inch alumiflex insulated ducts.

WE TOOK THIS FEEDBACK TO HEART, AND MADE SURE THAT OUR INSTALLERS PAY MORE ATTENTION TO DETAIL. THE DUCT LEAKS SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN MISSED. WE PRIDE OURSELVES IN GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE, WITH OUTSTANDING QUALITY AND PROFESSIONAL WORKMANSHIP. IN VIEW OF THE MEMBER'S RESPONSE I UNDERSTAND WHY HE IS UPSET. HE WAS COUNTING ON US TO BE THE COMPANY TO STEP UP AND TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM, SINCE THREE BEFORE US COULD NOT, AND UNFORTUNATELY WE WERE UNABLE TO. WE DID MAKE A SOLID EFFORT, AND WE DID PUT IN A LOT OF TIME TRYING TO SOLVE THIS, AND ULTIMATELY TOOK CARE OF IT IN THE END. THE POSITIVE POINT IN THIS IS THAT WE UNDERSTAND THAT WHEN UNFORTUNATE MISTAKES ARE MADE WE MUST LEARN FROM THEM, AND MOVE FORWARD. WE MAKE SURE WE DON'T MAKE THEM AGAIN. Original estimate was for high efficiency furnace and set-up for but not install A/C. Salesperson was very helpful and knowledgeable, offered coupon in paper and mentioned rebate for high efficiency. However, due to miscommunication, I had to cancel on day of install as high efficiency requires PVC venting which would need separate holes in roof, I would need prior approval from HOA. Due to time HOA would take to approve high efficiency furnace. I decided to install less efficient furnace which would use existing flues. The new estimate I was given had minimal details for this install and it was equal to estimate for higher efficiency furnace. However, 1 month after install, I received a letter from the furnace manufacturer stating what the rebate for this furnace was. Upon comparison I noted the rebate given was less than what manufacturer stated. I decided not to contact the company as the work was done fairly well. The furnace works well and my heating bills are less.

THEY DID NOT CENTER THE REGISTERS, AND NOW MY CEILING IS MESSED UP. I HAD PUT IN NEW TEXTURE ON MY CEILING AND THEY DID NOT CENTER IT. THEY DID NOT SEEM TO BE VERY EXPERIENCED. THEY LEFT A LOT OF DEBRIS IN THE ATTIC AND THEY WORKED ON TOP OF MIRRORED DOORS. ON TOP OF THAT, THEY SHATTERED MY MIRROR DOORS BY WORKING ON TOP OF THEM LIKE IT WAS A FLOOR. I TOOK PICTURES OF THE MIRRORS AND SENT THEM TO VALLEY HEATING. A GUY CAME OUT AND TOOK OUT SOME DEBRIS, BUT I HAD TO HIRE SOMEONE ELSE TO CLEAR THE REST OF THE DEBRIS AND TO TAKE OUT THE MIRRORS. I HAD TO ALSO HIRE SOMEONE ELSE TO FIX THE CEILING. I WAS REALLY UPSET WITH THEIR SERVICE AND HOW THEY HANDLED COMPLAINTS. THEY THEN INSULTED ME BY ASKING IF I HAD STORED THE SHATTERED DOORS.
Description of Work: CAME OUT TO GIVE A QUOTE FOR NEW DUCTING AND THEY WERE ALSO SUPPOSED TO PUT IN NEW REGISTERS. THEY TOLD ME THAT I WOULD NEED TO PUT THE REGISTERS TOWARD THE OUTER WALL BECAUSE IN THE OLDER HOUSES THEY PUT THEM MORE TOWARD THE CENTER OF THE HOUSE. I ASKED THEM TO PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT THE REGISTERS WERE CENTERED, AND THEY DID NOT. THERE IS A SMEAR OF COMPOUND ON THE TEXTURE AND AROUND THE ROUND HOLE THAT USED TO BE THERE WHERE THE OLD REGISTERS WERE; THIS IS VERY VISIBLE.
