Our air conditioner had not been working for several weeks when we asked for service from Valley Heating Air and Electrical, a company we found through Angie's List. We requested the yearly heating and air conditioning tune-up, which would include diagnostics to determine why our air conditioner was blowing room-temperature air. (Not so good when room temperature is 90°!) Andre from Valley Heating blew in like most welcome, refreshing breeze! With great enthusiasm, a positive personality, and confidence in his abilities, he told us that he would have everything checked out and cool air flowing before he left. He checked the heater unit inside, vacuuming out the space and the filter. He checked the thermostat and the lines, as well as the outdoor cooling unit. He found a flipped breaker switch (which I not even thought about checking, since the fan was working!) and topped off the freon. He worked efficiently and was done in no time. He recommended that we clean the filter every six months, and call him to come back in a year. I am sure we will! He also said we could call him if we had any questions. That is service above and beyond, which makes me feel really good about the quality of work he does and the confidence he has in his work. My husband just complained that he was too cold! Delightful!

Rich was a little late because he had been called out, at the last minute, for an emergency service for a customer. When he arrived he introduced himself, slipped disposable booties over his shoes and came into our home. He was very professional and pleasant. He checked the pilot and fan on our gas fireplace, in the living room. He said it was working properly and said that I should always use a special glass cleaner when cleaning the glass front of unit and that it could be purchased at True Value or Orchard Supply. He then checked our forced air furnace and said that the heat cycled properly. He checked the heat exchanges and they were becoming rusty and he showed me. He tightened the electrical connections, checked filters. He then checked our air conditioner, it was cooling and cycled properly. He tested contacts, R22 charge, capacitors and condensate. He went out of his way to make sure we were satisfied with his work. I would deffinatly use this company again and hope that all employees are like Rich. My only very small complaint would be that when Rich sometimes writes in tiny 6-8 pt. and it is was difficult to read some of what he wrote :)
Description of Work: Rich, the Tech, came out in response to my prepaid "Angie's List Deal" for a Heating and Air checkup. He checked the pilot and fan on our gas fireplace in the living room, our forced air furnace, and our air conditioner. They were in good working condition, however the large furnace may need to be replaced because rust is building up in the chambers. He showed me what he was concerned about and didn't try to sell me a furnace, just said that it was safe now, but in the future it should be replaced.

Arrived on time. Covered all floors. Cut hole through ceiling. Cut hole through roof. Cleaned everything. Spackled indentions in ceiling from old fixture (above and beyond!) This company greatly exceeded my expectations. I used a "deal" coupon from Angie's List which saved me about $100 on the work. It took the tech 3 hours to complete.

We called for an inspection and cleaning of our furnace and central air conditioning systems, and they were able to send someone over within two days, and provided us with a two-hour window in which they would be arriving. The serviceperson telephoned me about 45 minutes prior to the scheduled window opened and indicated that they could start early if possible. Since I was having to take some time off from work during the day for the appointment, I was happy to get the appointment over with sooner rather than later. The serviceperson was very professional, courteous, and provided detailed comments on what they were doing during each step of the inspection and cleaning process. Overall, a very professional experience.

Sal arrived promptly and after seeing the requested work to be done gave an estimate of how long all of the work would take along with each individual task. He was very detailed in explaining the required work needed to perform each task as well as the parts required, doing this before performing the tasks. After reviewing the task of splitting the single switch for the light and exhaust fan into individual switches and determining that the rewiring would be more work due to the original roof existing over the bathroom in the attic, he immediately let me know the new estimate of an additional hour to complete the work.He completed all tasks under the estimated time and we're extremely happy with the results. Sal has a great eye for detail and ascetics while installing the sconce lighting and even keeping coloring in mind when matching switches to wall plates.

The same guy came each time and he was very professional, friendly and worked hard. The only frustrating thing was that he thought he could finish installing our chandelier in the time allotted but didn't really assemble all the way and we had to finish that last part. It was primarily b/c of the 2 hour limit and he was trying to be very fair about it, but it was a frustrating experience anyway b/c it was hard to finish. Also, we had him install a remote control piece to a fan but then had to call him back b/c it was rattling whenever the fan was on high (something wasn't tightened all the way). They sent him back and fixed it, so it all worked out. All in all, I felt like we got good electrical work for a good price and would take them up on the offer again. However, when we had big electrical work to be done (upgrading our panel), we used someone else b/c I had interviewed the guy before and really trusted him.
Description of Work: We used two Angie's list coupons for 4 hours of work at 2 different times (basically $60/hour). We had him install new light fixtures, including a chandelier, as well as put in a remote piece to a ceiling fan.

I called this company a little after 3PM on 7/20/2012 to come out and take a look at my A/C external compressor unit, as it ceased working a couple of hours prior to the phone call. The person on the other end of the phone told me the soonest they could come out was Tuesday 7/24/2012 (4 days from date of call). When I explained to her that I have a disabled elderly father and that is was crucial I get a sooner appointment (either that afternoon or the next day at the latest), she told me she could have someone come out 'after hours', but the hourly rate would go from $120/hr to $180/hr! I told her no thanks and that I would call someone else. Raising a rate on someone in need basically amounts to price gouging. Ultimately, I called another company and they fixed the problem the next morning, just in time for the brutal hot weather that occurred this weekend.

Dear Member, I would have called you directly to discuss your review, but do not have your direct line. I am sorry that we were unable to accommodate your service request. With that, I do feel it is quite harsh to give us an F. We did offer you a couple of options for service. I apologize that we were not able to get you the appointment you needed at the price you felt was fair. \We are very competitive with companies of our size within our industry. Honestly, on a Friday at 3pm, right before a hot weekend, we are always booked solid. I did speak to our customer service rep, and she did confirm she offered you an overtime call for that evening or next day, since you requested same day. Our overtime rate of $60 additional is fair, since we are only charging what we incur in labor and overhead, and we do need to pass that on. Our normal business hours are 8am-4pm - Monday through Friday for regular rates. We may have been able to squeeze you in Monday, but I think you wanted it ASAP due to an illness - which is completely understandable. Again, I apologize for not being able to accommodate your request. Due to the inconvenience, we are happy to extend a nice discount for you if you need any additional service in the future. We sincerely do not want to lose your business, and your satisfaction is extremely important. I will send you a follow up letter with that information. Please give me a call to discuss this if you can. I would like to apologize to you personally, and listen to any additional feedback you may have. Also, I hope you reconsider your rating of our company. I take client feedback very personally. I hope you understand my explanation, and give us the benefit of the doubt. We are a great company and all of us really care about your experience. Sincerely, Cindy Faulkner President Valley Heating, Cooling and Electrical 408-294-6290 cfaulkner@valleyheating.com

Very professional and efficient. I will use them again anytime that I need an electrical contractor.
Description of Work: Purchased 2 hours of electrical service. The electrician repaired and added supports for a broken outdoor electrical conduit leading to pool equipment, tightened and sealed 6 outdoor electrical outlets, and then removed an incorrectly assembled interior cable-TV wall connection (the ground braid had been completely cut off by the original installer, which resulted in so much line noise that the outlet was unusable), cut-back the cable and reassembled the connector with complete ground connection, then verified that cable signal was strong and noise free.

Pretty good service, the technician was explaining me all the various issues with these kind of equipment, and was very nice to answer to my questions. He found 2 leaks and fixed them, which was above and beyond what I was expecting. They put a good amount of effort in what they do so it is a positive experience, will call them again.
Description of Work: The technician came on time and did a thorough check and clean up of the furnace and AC. He found some loose bolts that would cause leaks of the coolant, tighten up them and refilled the coolant. Probably I will need to call them again since the system is not cooling that much, but I want to replace the thermostat first. They did a great job for the price paid, worth every penny.

We bought the coupon to troubleshoot and repair one electrical issue. We just bought a new home and the outlet the sprinkler system is connected to was not working. Valley Heating & Cooling came out and determined that the outlet was not hooked up to anything! So the guy climbed underneath the house and hooked up an electrical line as well as several of the other outlets outside that weren't working. He was on-time, efficient, and fixed the problem. We would definitely call Valley again.

We have a 4.5 year old furnace and A/C which had not been serviced. The furnace also has an integrated electrostatic filter which had not been cleaned for 4.5 years. Al from Valley Heating was punctual, courteous, and professional. He carefully inspected the furnace and A/C, explained in detail what he was checking, and then proceeded to remove, clean, and replace our filter. This was not a simple task as the filter consists of 4 parts and needed to be removed from its housing, taken down from the attic where the furnace is located, taken outside, cleaned, dried, moved back up to the attic and re-installed. Al did this very thoroughly - he did not rush or take short-cuts. The only negative was that Valley Heating does not seem to respond promptly to emails or forms filled out on-line (hence the "C" score for responsiveness). Perhaps their response was eaten by the spam filter... When I called the phone number on a Friday, however, it was picked up right away and the service was scheduled for the following Monday! Overall, great service at a great price. Thanks!

Everything went so well that I plan on having them back to do more work. They were always on time and very neat. We started with outside garage lights and they were just what we wanted. Another visit we installed a new AC outlet upstairs and had to find a good way to snake wire from downstairs circuit. Sal did a great job!!! We added new fixture in master bedroom closet and two new AC outlets in kids bedrooms. We installed new ceiling fan and fixture in hallway closet for safety. We look forward to having Sal back to install dinning room and entry fixtures.

I was very satisfied with the work done professionally by Steve of Valley Heating. The regular price seems a little high, but with Angieslist's coupon deal and Valley Heating's promotion, it was very good deal for the service.
Description of Work: There are more than 15 feet from my dryer to dryer vent and it hasn't cleaned for more than 10 years. Steve of Valley Heating came on time and used commercial equipment to perform the cleaning. After cleaning, he couldn't detect the air from the vent while the dryer was on. He troubleshooted and went under the crawl space to detect the broken duct. Since I had referred Angieslist as reference for my initial work order, Valley Heating only charged additional $15 for the part needed. It took more than 3 hours for both dryer vent cleaning and air duct cleaning with lots of detailed work.

Already had a new furnace with a coil box installed by another company a few years ago. Deferred AC at the time because I only had 100 AMP service and was uncomfortable that I had enough power. Upgraded house to 200 AMP service a while ago and decided to do the AC. Valley HC&E did a really professional job throughout. Person who did look and bid was on time, knowledgeable, able to provide materials and even point out some errors the furnace people had made. Bid was a bit higher than I expected, but I decided to go with them because of the large number of good reviews. I'm happy I did - they showed up on time did a thorough job, including fixing a couple of related area things that might make the inspection a problem. They got everything done in one day and they left the place like they had never come. I got answers to any questions I asked, honest answers to the tough questions about how to manage AC in older 2 story homes that weren't designed for it. I watched a good deal of the work and it was done conscientiously. They used a younger crew to start, but a senior tech oversaw most of the touchy stuff, the final hook ups, and the test. I came to find out later that two of my close neighbors also used them for their AC and both rave about the service they continue to receive. What would I have done differently next time - research more about putting in an upstairs unit and a downstairs one. I don't think it would be a good investment given I'm in northern California and hope to use the new AC less that one week a year. Would have been messy too since the existing ductwork wouldn't work for dual zone and furnace is set for whole house. I would have researched the furnace installer better since I wasn't impressed by their work - don't remember doing a lot of web analysis on them at the time. Might have looked at a hepa filter, but given we open the whole house up every night from spring to fall I don't know what that buys me. And lastly I'm glad I waited til I had upgraded my power - I think 100 AMP service for AC and pool pumps plus upgraded kitchen would have been a problem.
Description of Work: New Central AC. Already had furnace with coil box, had new 100 AMP sub panel for them to wire into. Opted to get ducts cleaned too (my idea). Had to have them do the precipitant pit (furnace people didn't).

He arrived significantly later than scheduled. We were scheduled for 8:30a, but he called around 9:00a saying he would be at my place in about 10-15 minutes. He arrived at 9:14a. He was clean, covered my floor and furniture with a drop cloth. Promptly removed the old fan and replaced it with our new fan. Because I paid for 2 hours of service, he spent the last 45 minutes replacing 6 of our cream colored electrical with white ones. I finished the rest of the outlets myself, which took me about 15 per outlet! So he was twice as fast as me, which one would expect from a professional! He left my home clean and left neat piles of all the extra parts and used parts.
