This project went wrong from the beginning when the workers who showed up at 10am or later if at all on a daily basis could not measure properly or follow a simple diagram that resulted in many do-overs and causing delays. They had to move a light fixture twice because it was too close to the wall and built one of the support walls at the wrong angle and made it a foot longer than it was supposed to be. They had to change the wall four times before they got it right. The shower lever was installed upside down that required a second visit to correct and the owner/contractor's response was "They had a fifty-fifty chance of getting ir right". The tile is installed incorrectly and will have to be redone (by another company) and when we pointed it out, we were told it was defective which is not true. Even if the tile was defective which is isn't, why would they proceed with installation? Again, a second visit and alot of head scratching from the installer who did nothing to change it and Mike Alvord's (the owner) unprofessional remark, "What's the difference, you are going to be moving anyway" which does not make shoddy workmanship okay. Mike personally installed the shower glass and in the process, chipped off a corner of the granite countertop that he glued back on leaving a visible and ugly line. He also neglected to seal the glass properly and water leaked all over the floor the first time we used it. This also required a second visit to fix it. Not only did the shower leak, one of the sinks also leaked and there was a pool of standing water under the counter after the first use. We had to put a bowl underneath to catch the water until they came back to fix it. We waited three weeks for the cabinet hardware to be installed which meant that we could not open the drawers or cupboards while Mike repeatedly lied to us about when it would happen. We selected the hardware months in advance and there is no excuse to not supply it when the cabinets were installed. Two of the drawers are defective and have peeling veneer on the interior which still need to be replaced. There was a visible gap between the floor tile and the cabinets that we insisted be covered up with matching quarter round and were told that they don't usually include it. What that meant is that they take every short cut possible and try to do the minimum amount of work and try to get away with it. The bathroom is on the second floor and the workers managed to punch a hole in the ceiling of the dining room below it that required another visit to repair. Many days we sat here waiting for someone to show up and nobody did. We were never extended the courtesy of knowing when or if workers would be here. The most upsetting part of the project was the owner's unprofessional and insulting manner. Instead of apologizing for problems, he made excuses and tried to lie his way out of having to take care of them. There is no excuse to take a six week project and turn it into a four month nightmare for the customer.
Description of Work: Unfortunately for us, we are the first to post a review for Ultimate Kitchen and Bath. If we had known anything about this company in advance, we would never have hired them. We entered into a contract with them in February, 2012 to completely remodel our master bathroom that required demolition and installation of new flooring, cabinets, fixtures, painting, electrical, etc. and were told the project would take six weeks. Four months later, we are still waiting for defective drawers with peeling veneers to be replaced.

Response from Ultimate Kitchen & Bath
Dear Mr. T, We are very sorry that this project ended on such a negative note. As mentioned in the personal letter to you and your wife, we quoted you 6 weeks for completion and it took us a total of 8 weeks to complete the project. We had done everything possible to complete your master bath in order to meet your desired Open House date, so that you could sell your house. I provided all the dates per completed task, as well as the actual inspection dates that took place in regards to this project. These dates are not dates I came up with, but inspection dates done by the city. Please note that we would have completed the project in 7 weeks, if certain materials you needed to provide were made available for us to work with. I had explained to you that your hardware for your drawers were on backorder and they were installed 1 week after the job was completed, so I am unsure how you had to wait 3 weeks to use your cabinetry. You are right, the drawer fronts were peeling. I explained that this was a manufacturer error, and I put a request to have them send in new ones as soon as possible. I believe you have already received the new drawer fronts, as I had them ship it directly to your home. I want to point out that your complaints about the "problems" with shower cartridge, as well as the shower and sink "leaking" were premature, because you chose to enter and "test" a site that was nowhere near done. We had gone home for the day, and had not even had a chance to test things yet, which is part of the process - we test things after installing them to ensure that there is no leakage, etc. I also want to clarify that it was not the shower valve that was installed upside down, it was the shower cartridge , and it is simply a matter of flipping it over, (a task that was done in less than a minute) - this is where my joke of "They had a fifty-fifty chance of getting it right" came into play. Any plumber in the industry will know that this is true. Again, this was an issue that came about due to "testing" a site that was not yet complete. As for the installation of the tile, I specifically informed you that we had never installed this particular 10x20 tile you requested on the floor, in the pattern that you insisted on having. Nevertheless, we installed it on the walls and the floor. Although you were satisfied with the outcome on the walls, when you expressed that you were unhappy with the floor, I offered to redo the entire floor with a different material (as you cannot install this particular tile in the pattern you desired on the floor without creating "lippage"). What you failed to include in your review is that I offered to do this at absolutely no cost to you, and that you declined. This is when you said, "It didn't matter anymore because you were selling the house anyway". Unfortunately, I made the big mistake of repeating the phrase you said to me, and for that, I am truly sorry. I never intended for it to sound like I didn't care about the job and I can see how repeating that statement would give that impression. I value my clients, and regret this error deeply. Ultimate Kitchen and Bath is a separate entity from Professional Design Builders. While I am president for UKB, I am owner of PDB who actually was the contractor on your project. We have been licensed and active in the community for over 25 years, with a loyal and satisfied customer base. UKB is a design showroom where we offer design consultation and products and if a client is in need of a contractor, we give them the option of working with PDB. It is unfortunate that you feel it is necessary to leave an inaccurate and negative review in your attempts to avoid payment for the work that has been done. I have explained what I need to do on my part in the letter I sent you, and I am willing to work things out when you are ready. I do value you as a client, and I am sorry it has come to this.
