Kyle was very punctual at 9 and generally worked until 4:45, just took a lunch break. Matt, who tiled the floor, also worked the entire time he was here. They were both very personable and willing to answer questions. Eric, the owner, was here on the first day and also came on Thursday to inspect the finished project. He also brought additional materials as needed, so he was aware of their progress. He was also very helpful. They removed a filing cabinet and desk from the room. The desk was a problem as it wouldn't fit through the door, so Kyle and Eric disassmbled it and then had to reassemble it when they were finished. I really appreciated that. I feel they did a great job with a minimum of mess; Kyle cleaned up before he left each day. The room is exactly the way I wanted it.
Description of Work: Re -constructed a closet: put in a new clothes rod and shelf, also built 2 shelves at either ends of the closet; they painted the closet. and did some touch-up work on the walls. They also removed existing shelving, etc. from the closet. Removed old carpeting and tiled the floor including the closet. Removed 2 pieces of furniture from the room.

I spoke and booked the date/time with Eric at Tool Time a few days in advance and told him the parts that I had already purchased and what needed to be done. Then, I called him 24 hours before the appointment to confirm the time. Eric showed up as planned, completed the work and cleaned up. I found him to be both knowledgeable and professional. One suggestion I have for prospective customers who may be engaging Eric or Tool Time: Provide as much details about the primary job upfront and well in advance. Also find out if Eric has enough time available to complete your job or whether a follow up appointment may be necessary. He/they are quite busy and usually have back to back appointments -- and everyone benefits I/when the scheduling is properly matched with the task.

Eric and Matt are craftsman. The work they did with the crown molding was beautiful. The sheetrock repair on the ceiling and in a very difficult spot was flawless. They checked for any other damage which fortunately there was none. Eric was congenial and answered all my questions. His reputation is based on his skills and honesty. I would recommend Eric to anyone that would need any type of home repair.
The owner didn't come this time but he sent his assistant. When both of them were here, they were so knowledgeable and so thorough. They found things that I didn't even know what’s wrong. They had to be repaired. They do it efficiently and they are so nice. I couldn't ask for a better tool man. They know what they are doing. They came back to fix a pipe that was under the sink. Apparently when he was trying to fix something for me the last time under there, he took pictures of everything. It was ready to break. He told it could last couple of days or it could last couple of months but it’s going to go. So he sent somebody back and he replaced that pipe so it was preventive today. They charge by the hour and there are 2 of them. They also contacted this person to come and fix my dishwasher. He wasn't able to fix it today. He is going to come back tomorrow. I already had the parts and I was going to have the gasket put in. He couldn't get the gasket to fit. He told me it was because it was too stiff. He told it needs to be in hot water and he will comeback in the morning.
Description of Work: Tool Time Home Improvement came back to fix a pipe that was under the sink. Outside I had a water main pipe that came up and was made of copper. It was rusting where it was joined by galvanization. So the owner had the guy clean it off, spray it and paint it. He fixed it all up so it wouldn't rust anymore.

I apologize but waited way too long to put this review in. I was impressed with Tool Time Home Improvement's work. I have two small children and its important to me to have any repair people in and out quick. He and his partner came in, didn't waste my time chatting and did the work. They were very clean, professional, and quick. I have no complaints about the work performed and would use him again. His prices are a higher than other quotes, but in my opinion it's worth it. I have had work done by other handymen and have been disappointed with the craftsmanship. Some of which I had to have repaired again. It's best to spend a little more to avoid the hassle of having to repair it again or look at crappy work and feel angry that you did not say something at the time the work was performed. I would recommend Tool Time to my friends and family.
Description of Work: 1. Repaired two kitchen cabinet doors ; the wood was eroded around the hinges. Needed dowels and be re-enforced 2. Installed new accordion doors to the laundry area 3. Fixed a leak in where the hose and faucet meet outside 4.Few other items, but I can not remember.

Eric & Matthew came and re-caulked two baths. All the yucky old caulk was removed and the mold was killed and cleaned. The new caulking matches the original colors perfectly. The baths look as good as new. The work was performed perfectly and was done better than if I'd attempted it myself. Eric responded to my call promptly and scheduled the work in just two days. He matched his verbal price quote exactly and the total project time took no longer than he had estimated. I am very pleased with the results.

Our very old patio roof was leaking, more and more with each heavy rainstorm of winter. We had to move things out of the way and put buckets out to catch the water. I was in despair of finding someone who would replace the roof (having had no luck in many calls, of finding someone who would do the job). I tried contacting several other companies, mainly roofing companies, and not one of them would do the patio room roof (not a big enough job like a whole-house roofing project, is my guess), but Eric, from Tool Time, was willing and pleased to do the job. From the moment I contacted him initially, until completion of the jobs, Eric was always very prompt in responding to my calls in addition to subsequent calls to set up dates and times to do the jobs. The roofing panels had to be ordered from Home Depot, but once they arrived, Eric and his associate were here to do the job. We even had to postpone a couple of times, due to rain, and they were very understanding. During the roof replacement, Eric noticed that one of the beams of the patio roof had dry rot, which had already been pointed out to me by a Facilities person from our homeowner's association. Eric said he could repair that, as well, and since it needed doing, I said, "let's do it!" It looks good-as-new, and will also be protected from the elements now. Eric always explained things in ways that were understandable, and was very precise and detail-oriented. He hauled away the old materials, and careful clean-up was provided; a nice touch. As a side benefit of his visit, I thought to ask him if a kitchen shelf could be installed to free up more counter space in our kitchen, and he said, "Sure!". It looks great, and now we have a nice place to store fruit and some coffee mugs! He also ended up painting a wooden block for the patio room, at my request. I had wanted to have a place to put a sculpture, so he did that, last-minute. I thought his prices were competitive and realistic; he was very accommodating and pleasant, with a good sense of humor. I would hire Tool Time Handyman Services again, and recommend this company to others needing handyman services. We are enjoying the patio room now that Spring has arrived, and anticipate many more days in the sun (and rain!). Thanks, Eric!
Description of Work: We were pleased with the services provided by this contractor and his associate. Tool Time Home Improvement replaced a patio roof cover; replaced, primed, and painted a wooden beam on the patio room that had dry-rot; and also installed a new shelf in the kitchen. They even painted a block of wood, last-minute, that I needed to have re-painted to hold a sculpture in the outdoor room. The bids were right-on, and we now have the use of our patio room (with no more leakage!)!

I reached out from Angies list to see if anyone in the Handyman listings did installation of mailboxes and mailbox posts, as our post had broken off due to rust. Out of the three that responded, Eric was the one that I chose. I purchased the post, the mailbox and bracket. Although Eric did not arrive exactly at the time set, he did call to let me know that they had stopped to get some additional materials, which I greatly appreciated! In this day where the art of customer service is dying a quick death, I am grateful for the good customer service shown by Eric. They were very friendly, professional and worked efficiently to dig out the rest of the broken post and concrete, dig and install the mailbox post, and mailbox. I am adding them to my list vendors.

Mr. Eric Calamia, owner/contractor of Tool Time Handy Man Services arrived, on time, with another contractor Mr. DeCampo to take measurements and survey the project. They were informative, insightful, thorough and talked to every detail required for the job. They left me with an idea of the cost of materials and labor. I later received an email with the quote. We spoke about the time required and agreed it was to be a fixed quote completed plus materials. Mr. Calamia and Mr. Decampo sent over their individual liability insurance statements of coverage. The lumber company arrived on schedule, met by Mr.Calamia. They primed the redwood, painted it, demo'd the existing beam and decorative boxed rafters etc. - thoroughly cleaned all evidence of it's removal. Installed the metal cap on stucco column. Installed the beam. Constructed and installed the boxes. Stucco repair, what little appeared was needed. Painted stucco. Cosmetic wood repair. I'm guessing there was touch-up painting required. There was nothing left to find, clean or pick-up. Perfection. Outstanding job. This experience from start to finish was exceptional. I highly recommend Tool Time Handy Man Services, Eric Calamia and his associate. Call Mr. Eric Calamia at Tool Time Handy Man (408) 316-8459.

I contacted a few handymen on Angie?s List, including Tool Time, to take a look at a leaking window and give me an estimate. I like to get at least 3 bids on a project. Erik came at the agreed time and I showed him my leaky windows. He went outside with his nephew/helper and was gone for a few minutes. When he came back inside he told me that he had caulked around the windows and that should do the trick. He then asked for $150.00! I never agreed to have him do the work and certainly never agreed on a price. When I told him this he reduced the price to $95. He said that was his minimum hourly fee. If I had known about this, I would have given him more projects then just a 10 minute caulking job. He said he thought that if I had selected him off Angie?s List, then I should have known. Nowhere on his listing is there a price list. I guess he did a good job, I won?t know until there is wind driven rain.

I was under the impression that Member wanted the work performed. I did not realize that she wanted an estimate. Matthew and I spent 1/2 hour caulking three of her windows. When I went inside to collect payment, to my surprise, she said she was only looking for an estimate. I appologized for my misunderstanding and offered to reduce my minimum charge from $150 to $95 and aked her if she was okay with the reduced amount. She said that she was. I never would have done the work before hand if I had known that she was just looking for and estimate.

The job went well, the team came on time, and did everything to a very high standard. Eric really came across as more of a builder than your classic handyman - he certainly operates at a higher level than most handymen. He's good at explaining why something will or won't work, and then finding a good way to fix things. The bedroom light required some additional electrical work which made the project a bit longer than planned. Eric worked with a younger colleague, which made their combined hourly rate around $150 as a team -- high compared to other solo handymen who have done work for me in the past, but they were fairly fast and efficient as a team. Eric is very knowledgeable, which is helpful. One of the cost drivers is if they have to do a Home Depot run, so if possible you should make sure you have the parts needed for the job. Eric has a Tooltime truck with tons of tools and parts, so they are OK for common tasks.
Description of Work: I called Eric to do three things: 1. Install two spot lights / recessed lighting and add a switch in a bedroom 2. Move the dining room light to be over the dining table 3. Fix a minor plaster board hole where a door had punched a small hole in the wall.

I called Eric at Tool Time because of a leak of unknown origin which was leaking into the ceiling of my laundry area. Eric immediately found the leak to be coming from the shut off valve on the toilet in the bathroom above the laundry area. He repaired it in about 10 minutes. Took about a week to dry the area and Eric planned to repair the sheetrock until we told him we wanted to be safe and replace the sheetrock. He "subbed" the job out to another company (I only know George) he had worked with because they were better at doing large sheetrock jobs. They showed up at my house and when all of the sheetrock was removed, found that there was a problem with our dryer vent. Seems like it was one thing after another -- first the sheetrock, then the dryer vent, then we needed a booster fan because the dryer venting was over 10 feet and then we needed another fan, etc., etc., etc. All in all, everything was repaired and came in at a lower cost than we expected. The dryer works better than it ever has and there is no danger of fire now that everything has been cleaned out and repaired. We never would have known this problem even existed had we not had to replace the sheetrock in the ceiling. George could have just covered everything up and we still wouldn't have known about the problems. George did a good job. The only downside to the entire experience is that Eric didn't actually do the work and George did very little work. They more or less supervised various members of George's family, which turned out okay. There were some problems with miscommunications, but I wouldn't hesitate to call Eric again. If the job was something he felt was too big to handle personally, then he would know who to get to do the job for us. There are some other things we'd like done around the house and would like to get Eric to help us out.
Description of Work: Eric fixed the leak for which I initially called him. For the remainder of the work that was done, he had someone come out that he had worked with before.

Eric gave us a quote for installing an attic stair for $625, which was lower than one other person whom we called and about the same price as another who required a visit the house to confirm. We provided Eric as much information as we thought relevant and got a quote over the phone and in an e-mail which he thought should cover the expected 6 hrs of work. Eric had good Angie's list reviews, sounded competent over the phone, was easy to communicate with, and seemed confident that the job could be done in the expected time. We went with Eric because his bid was lower and the work would be easier for us logistically. The installation ended up taking 9 hours, quite a bit longer than expected. This was in part due to unexpected details which he encountered while working on the install and which I didn't have the experience to convey to him on the phone, and also because Eric proved to be very detail-oriented and clearly took pride in his work. The latter contributed significantly, in a good way, to the job taking longer. In the end, we negotiated a fee somewhat lower than splitting the cost between the 6 hour quote and the actual 9 hours of work. I felt this was fair because he had originally told me on the phone that he wouldn't charge more than his quoted $625 even if the work took longer. I was happy that he took pride in doing the job well and correctly, so was willing to pay a bit more than the quoted price, but did wish that I had a bit more forewarning so I could have budgeted the time better. I would definitely hire him again for future work, but would pay the $59 for him come out for an inspection before asking him to provide an estimate. The accurate time estimate is worth the money.
Description of Work: Installed an attic stair in the hallway ceiling, which involved removing an existing non-functional whole house ceiling fan, shifting the location of the wiring and terminating the live wire, cutting some joists and framing the stair appropriately, and trimming the opening after installation so everything was ready for painting.

This was a lot of work, especially with everything that needed to be moved to make room for the new attic entrance. I am very satisfied with the work that was performed. Eric is very meticulous about making sure the job was done right. My husband and I are extremely happy with the finished work. The reason for the "B" over all rating is because I felt time management could have gone better. Eric was supposed to arrive the first day at 9:00am. He called at 8:45 to say he still needed to pick up the material he needed for the job. Eric arrived at 11:00am and by the time he set up his equipment it was 11:30am before he actually got started. I felt Eric could have made a better attempt at communication and his time planning. I mentioned this to Eric and he understood and admitted it was something he needed to work on. Again, I need to mention that I found his work to be outstanding and because of this I would hire him for future projects.
Description of Work: Had a new entrance to the attic installed in the hallway. Old entrance was in a bedroom closet which made accessibility difficult. Eric sealed the old entrance and made necessary repairs to the closet. Primed and painted and installed new steel clothing rods. Two new mirrored closet doors were also installed. Eric had to move some insulation and reroute some wiring in the attic in order to install the new entrance. Once the work was completed he added trim around the new entrance for a clean finished look. Eric also added a light just inside the attic so just before you enter the attic you can pull a string to turn the light on.
