Tool Time did a great job. Their communications were strong - a quick response to inquiries, prompt quote, and ready replies both to phone/text contact and to Angie's List messages. They scheduled my repair within a week, and the worker who came to my house was prompt, careful, and neat in his work. My bill was exactly what I expected it to be, and I am very happy with the work.
Description of Work: Tool Time sent a sheet rock worker to repair a 3X3 hole in my powder room ceiling and some water damage to the adjacent wall. He replaced the ceiling and then plastered the repaired area. He returned a few days later, after the plaster was thoroughly dry, and sanded the plaster smooth.

The fence repair was acceptable. It required a slotted 2x4 for the top and I was surprised that the fellow couldn't find a ready-made board at a lumberyard. He said he had to route the board. The repair was good. The problem was in replacing the light fixture. In our office, we have three under-counter florescent fixtures and one of them no longer worked. He said it needed to be replaced, which I expected. However, he replaced it with a fixture four inches shorter than the original and one that had an on/off switch on it (the lights all turn on / off from a wall switch.) Now I have to find another - this time a real electrician - to put the right fixture in. The shorter fixture uncovers an un-painted area and doesn't match the other two fixtures. He left it that way. I paid the bill when it arrived in the mail and called to say I would not use them again. If they had offered to come out and remedy the situation, I would not have written this, my first ever review. I didn't expect that he would have the right replacement fixture with him, but I thought he would order one and come back days later. He didn't ask if this would be okay; we would not have approved it.

The person who came to my (2 story) home was professional, very knowledgable, friendly, and considerate. He did everything within approximately 3 1/2 hours, was careful, conscientious and left the yard, deck, driveway and sidewalks adjacent to the house clean and neat after finishing the job.
Description of Work: In anticipation of a rainy season in the Bay Area this winter, I had all 13 of my Simonton double-pane windows checked for any obvious leads and then recaulked. (The company who did the original installation of my windows 11 years ago is no longer in business.) Any cracks to the exterior plaster near the vicinity of the windows were also filled and sealed.

I needed an arbor painted. We had it built about 3 years ago but the staining had faded. I bought the Tool Time big deal coupon for $350.00 for 4 hours of work. I purchased the deal early March, but had to email the company several times to actually start the job. It was finally completed in May. Spoke with Eric the owner over the phone but only met the painter in person. The painter stated that the arbor would need to be washed and primed and I agreed. We bought the materials like paint and primer. Was happy with the results. Didn't here from the company till August. For some reason, they were using an old email address instead of the one we were previously using to communicate. They did not try to communicate with me through Angie's list till 8/15. When I finally got the invoice, I was shocked to learn that they were asking $1500.00 for the job, which is more than I paid to have the arbor built, and about four times the amount of the initial deal. Eric's wife and I got into a heated, shouting argument over the cost. She states it cost that much because after the 4 hours, they were charging me their hourly rate. But come on! Over 24 hours of work to wash and paint an arbor? It didn't take that much time to build it. It ended with her request to email them with what I think is a fair price. I replied with an email stating that I would pay &800.oo on top of the the original price of the deal. That was in August and still haven't received a response. Seveal things went wrong with working with this company, maybe because it was a small job, there was not adequate communication going on. I wasn't given a quote verbal or written prior to the start of the job.

[Member Info Removed] was told when the job began that it would take more than the 4 hours of prepaid service that had been purchased. Specifically, she was told by the painter that the arbor was too dirty and had too much peeling paint to paint without prepping and power washing. At that time, [Member Info Removed] stated that she wanted the arbor painted properly and didn't want a "cheap" job. [Member Info Removed] never paid the remainder of the bill which included the cost of primer and paint. The bill was emailed to her the week after the job was completed, but not paid. Her expectation was not correct from the beginning of the project when she purchased a 4 hour block of time to paint a 12' x 12' arbor with a minimum of two coats of paint. Our painter power washed the arbor, caulked and sealed the seams and gaps in the wood, painted one coat of primer and two coats of final color by hand (not sprayed). I guarantee that this time, the arbor will not need to be repainted after three years. Tool Time's strength is the quality of the service that we provide. We do things right, without taking shortcuts and pride ourselves on doing a quality job. [Member Info Removed] and her husband accused our painter of being dishonest and accused Tool Time of cheating them because of the material charge, for which we had receipts that were offered as proof. They had forgotten that though they did provide some paint for the arbor, it was not enough nor did they provide primer. [Member Info Removed] also stated that she felt cheated because she was paying a fully licensed general contractor to paint her arbor at an hourly rate greater than her own salary as a nurse. In the end, the recommendation to [Member Info Removed] and her husband was that if their standard for the rates charged by home repair persons is their own personal salary, then they would be better suited not looking for fully licensed general contractors for their repairs. And specifically, in the future if they need painting, they should contact a painting company which charges a lower hourly rate because their insurance and liability requirements are different from that of a general contractor.

Did a great job. Showed up for the initial site survey on time and gave me a quote the next day. When we chose the date for the work to be done he showed up on time, did everything that needed to be done and left the area clean when he left. We were very impressed. We've used him several times now and every time our experience has been great.

Although it kills me to pay so much for handymen, this service really was exceptional. Kyle came exactly on time, made sure he understood what we wanted done, explained any extra time that might be needed (travel for parts, which we decided to get ourselves) and went to work quickly and efficiently. What can I say, the guy knew what he was doing and went straight to it. He cleaned up after himself and clocked out right on time. Yea! A good experience all-round!

Eric, the person who came for the job, was very nice, professional and patient. I am sure he was not especially thrilled to see the type of job it was, but he wrapped his head around it - and installed the items even more securely than the instructions had advised. It was a very big project for a 4-hour chunk of time, so we needed up doing 7 hours. I was extremely happy with the outcome and would highly recommend Tool Time.

Difficult to get in touch with. 2 messages unreturned. We finally did schedule an inspection of the work to get a quote. He called in the morning to re-schedule the inspection half an hour earlier than originally agreed to accomodate someone else's job, which was fine. He didn't arrive until 15 minutes after the rescheduled appointment time. Once here, he wasn't able to find on-street parking immediately, so he called my wife to decline the job altogether. (Plenty of guest parking in the complex, but as he was continually interrupting and talking over my wife, he never figured that out.) Utter time-wasters.

The work was done well and with no hand holding by me. The bathroom looks great was completed in a little less that two weeks.
Description of Work: My condo rental had sever water damage to the bathroom floor. Since the damage went under tube and sink cabinet, I had then fix the floor, replace the tub, and replace the sink. They recommended instead of vinyl, replace it with tile especially since it is a rental. It was clear when getting the quote that they knew what they were doing and they were able to explain what work they expected to have to do and what work might be required if damage was more extensive underneath the floor.
I am an out of state landlord. Eric supplied model info online for all supplies. I upgraded some faucets and tub/shower fixtures. The tenants were not unduly disrupted while the repairs were ongoing. The crew cleaned up the work area every day. Receipts were supplied. The invoicing was done and paid on line, very convenient. Eric was very responsive, a pleasure to work with.
Description of Work: Remove tile surrounds on a tub/shower and a stall shower, removed dry rot walls and flooring in two baths. Purchased and installed formed tub/shower surround and a stall surround, new fixtures in both. Purchased and installed a new sink/counter top and side splashes and faucet. New tile floors in both baths. Replaced a garbage disposal. In another unit, replaced two faucets, one needing additional plumbing repairs under the cabinet.

This review actually covers three dates from March to May. Their work is excellent. The guys are professional and efficient. I highly recommend their work. My lower ratings are because of their billing policies. I didn't get a bill for three months - they said they didn't have my email address (even though they obviously had my mailing address). And when I finally got the bill - three months after the first visit - I was shocked at the amount of money because the number of hours didn't match what I remembered. That's not to say that I have a perfect memory for each of the times they stayed over those three months - far from it. But that's the trouble - you don't get a bill on the spot. Here is my advice if you use Tool Time: Keep scrupulous track of the time they arrive and leave, and agree on the total amount of time before the person leaves your house, because you won't get bill at that time. If you do this, I think you will be happy with this company. I might use Tool Time again - although I am not sure because the billing was a bad experience.

Competent, prompt, knowledgeable -- discussed each activity prior to beginning and explained options. Neighbors said workers were constantly working and friendly.
Description of Work: Reside exterior, roof, paint house.
The work was done in a professional manner and on time. There were a few surprises as is common with older homes and plumbing, so another project is still under way to completely redo the master bathroom shower area. That will be a subsequent review. Work is done on an hourly basis, so changes can add up quickly. Having it quoted as a whole job, if possible may be better, especially if you only have one area to work with. Also, paperwork is not a strength for them, so if you require copies of receipts and good documentation, follow up on it as work is progressing to avoid delays at the end of the job and lost info.
Description of Work: Had a long list of items that were identified through a home inspection. There was electrical, plumbing, brick repairs, carpentry, and tile work. This is a rental, so I wanted someone to coordinate all the work with his workers, subs and the renter. Eric was able to do this for me.

Matt and Kyle arrived right on time and figured out what needed to be done. They did a wonderful job. They took the cabinet down. Repaired the top of the cabinet and reinforced it with another piece of wood so it would not come apart again. They even stained the piece of reinforcement wood so it would look finished. I thought it would would take two people to take down the cabinet and put it back up, so I told Matt when he called. Having two people worked out perfect. After they remounted the cabinet, they put all of the shelves and doors back on the cabinets and vacuumed up any dust. They left the area cleaner than when they arrived.

Response from Tool Time Home Improvement
Tool Time typically does not service Fremont. [Member Name Removed] had purchased a 2 hour deal and so we agreed to take on the job even though it was outside of the service area. Eric made two visits to fix the water filtration system that [Member Name Removed] had already purchased. The unit purchased was defective and Eric spent a few hours at no charge working with the manufacturer to get the replacement part sent to [Member Name Removed] directly. The part arrived, as did [Member Name Removed]'s baby and the the second trip to use the new part that had arrived was canceled with the arrival of her baby. She said she should call back when ready that she needed some time after the birth of her baby to get settled. After that a few more back and forth communications occurred and then the job unfortunately fell off of the radar screen as we were working on a few large construction/remodel projects when [Member Name Removed] was finally ready for us to come back (again at no charge) to swap out the replacement part.

Later when the glue was dried I tested the doors and they were still sticking (though not quite as much). I also noticed that the doorknob was installed crooked. The previous doorknob was crooked and I was hoping the new one would have been installed straight, especially since the guy had to drill a new hole in the door, but he apparently used the old crooked doorknob as a guide. I called the main line and left a message saying that some of the work was not done correctly and that I'd like to have someone come out and correct it, but haven't heard back. I've been too busy to call them a second time, so they may have fixed this already if I had been a bit more proactive about it.
Description of Work: They sent a repair man to fix a few doors that were sticking, attach babyproofing latches, and repair a doorknob.
