Description of Work: Installed solar under a power purchase agreement for 20 years. All involved were very punctual and professional, and very easy to work with. As an example, the inverter and associated equipment was planned to be on a side of the house where it intrude into a walk area. At my request, they moved it to the other side of the house. The equipment has been working fine since it was installed.

Description of Work: This is a review of the representative as he speaks for the company. The representative (Dan, was a District Manager) when first referred to us was with another Solar company when we first discussed solar options. He canceled 3 appointments, we rescheduled one. We didn't hear from him for a couple of months then out of the blue he calls wanting to have his company design a system for us. We said okay but we're also getting a design from another solar company. Before we received the design, we received a card in the mail from him but he was working for LGCY Power-Sun Run partner not the original company but he neglected to tell us when we spoke to him on the phone. We felt he wasn't being upfront about the company change and we have never heard of either LGCY power or Sun Run. We went with another solar company.

Description of Work: REC Solar installed a state-of-the-art 7.0 kilowatt solar panel system of my roof. I researched REC Solar extensively against several other companies. I almost went with another company (Horizon Energy Systems) which I still believe would also have done a good job. But I went with REC Solar due to (1) their number of satisfied customers on Angieslist, (2) the quality of their roof mounts/flashings which protect against leaks, (3) they are licensed/bonded/insured, (4) they employ no subcontractors, (5) they are staffed with good engineers and licensed electricians, (6) they have done more residential installations in the USA than anyone, and (7) they had an extremely competitive price. My sales consultant, Lonnie, did a great job educating me, and then answering my never-ending stream of questions. When I wavered on the whole thing, their regional manager Mike G. spent time with me on the phone to address my concerns. Ultimately I wound up purchasing the system, rather than a lease or prepaid lease (which are compelling alternatives if you don't have the cash up front). REC's engineer, Tom S., was terrific working together with me to lay out the drawings to maximize the number of panels on my roof. The installation crew (Kyle, Anthony and one other gentleman) did a great job. They found a very efficient route for the electrical conduit which went through my attic, down through a drop-down flue(sp?), into my garage, along the inside of my garage walls, and through the wall into the back of my electrical panel. This means there was absolutely no added wiring/piping/conduit along the outside of my home, thus preserving the look of our home aesthetically. The actual installation was not straightforward, since we packed my south-facing backyard roof with the maximum number of panels. It was very tight, and instead of portrait it was all landscape (which maximized the number of panels per sqaure foot but was more challenging to install) but REC pulled it off. Outstanding job. $36,500 cost is gross before CSI rebate and 30% federal tax credit.

Great looking and performing system. Electrical usage and bill dropped the anticipated 80-85%. Puntual and polite crew.
Description of Work: Installation of a 25.5 kWh system in three arrays for a condominium community. REC Solar saw to a near seamless installation and certification process. Installation crew friendly and responsive to our 60 families, when encountering them. Work is attractive and integrates well with existing structural lines and construction. Installation completed 2-3 days early. Our electric bills have plummeted from a range of $980-1210 per month to $90-180 per month. For all practical purposes, we have purchased 25 year of electrical usage at 7 1/2 years of the cost in 2010 prices. Needless to say, PG&E (with the blessing of the CPUC) is planning to raise fees for the same usage 11.8-15.2% over the next five years, so our ROI will be even greater in the future.

I got them through Angie's List. We were very happy with them. I would recommend them and use them again in the future. They were very professional, they came did the work and cleaned up after themselves. My husband has been monitoring daily to see whether we were spilling power back to PG&E or whether we are using the solar power. Everything seems to be working fine; it's been working the way they indicated it would. We are very happy with them. I think their price was pretty standard. I wasn't familiar with what the pricing was for panels. We did check with a couple of places and they were in the ball park so I think their pricing was fine. I didn't know them until I went to Angie's List.

The experience has been superb. I am getting four bids. It took a little bit of effort to get in touch with someone who finally got back with me, but once I did get assigned to a person, he has been wonderfully responsive. He has been very helpful and answered all my questions in a very professional and fast manner. I have two bids so far and theirs is better than the first one for a comparable system.

I was personally very interested in solar because our household output could be $500 a month during certain months of the year. Our heat is gas, but we have a pool which requires a circulating pump and at the time an elderly parent was with us, who ran an electric heater in her room, 24 -7. We have TVs, computers and I think are pretty good with turning off lights etc. But when we have guests, they stay in a part of the house heated by electricity, so holidays pushed the usage and costs up dramatically. Anyhow, at Costco one day, REC solar was presenting information and I talked with the sales rep. Dan Camacho and set a date for him to visit my husband and me at our home. We were not a hard sale because I personnally believe that if you are able to invest in an alternative source of energy, then we should help ourselves and our community in this manner. Our good intentions will definitely pay off financially in the end, because our system, which supplied 75%of our annual use during 2009, cost $54,000. After a PG&E rebate of $11,400 and a tax rebate of $12,000 for 2009, the system ends up costing us about $30,000. Our electric bill for all of 2009 was about a quarter of what we spent the previous year. We will have recouped our expense in less than 10 years with our system then providing most of our electricity for free. The amount of carbon dioxide that has not gone into the atmosphere because of one household using solar for one year is an unbelievable 10 tons. I was so pleased with our encounter with REC Solar that I arranged a neighborhood meeting and from our association of 42 homes, 6 other homeowners signed on with REC. The entire experience was very smooth and professional taking about 4 weeks from start to finish. The system has been operating for over a year now and there have been no problems. I did need to have some tiles replacedl on my roof, which may have been damaged during the installation. The roofer was very impressed with the installation and remarked that it was the best looking installment he had observed. I was glad to hear this, but I had looked at REC photos of other installations and I thought they all looked fine. I recommend soalr panels and I highly recommend REC Solar as a company to work with.
Description of Work: The sales, rep. came to our home and provided an estimate of how big a system we should purchase, based on our annual electrical use. After we agreed to a plan, an engineer came to see our house and to determine the best location of the solar panels on the roof. We were provided a drawing of what this would look like and a chance to change the plan. The installers took a couple of days and were very professional, efficient and cleaned up the site when they were done. The company makes provisions for the rebate from the state of CA. and since they keep up with legislation regarding solar power, they alerted us to the timely passage of Federal legislation which provided homeowners with the same tax rebate as businesses. We therefore did not turn our system on until Jan. 2009 in order to be eligible for a 30%tax rebate on the cost of the system.

Thank you so much for posting a review of REC Solar's service. We were happy to provide you with the best service and competitive rates available at the time, and glad we won your business. We know it has been a few years since your solar electric system installation was completed, so thank you for taking the time to post a review. It is good to know that your system is performing and that you continue to be satisfied with the workmanship and the results of switching to home solar energy. REC Solar Bay Area Sunnyvale, CA

REC Solar did an excellent job overall installing solar panels at my home in San Francisco. The solar installation (8 Evergreen panels, with a total A/C output of 1.2kW) was by many accounts modest, and when I was pricing it, most other solar installers wouldn't even be interested in giving me a quote. REC Solar not only gave me a quote, but they treated me like one of their most important customers, always answered questions to my satisfaction, and often going above and beyond to make sure that the overall process went as smoothly as possible for me. They did a great job explaining the rebate process, the timelines, who would contact me when, how long it would take, etc. They were even upfront about the fact that, due to the small size of my solar installation, it would take a long time for it to break even (this didn't deter me, instead I appreciated the refreshing honesty). The installation process itself went very well. The contractors showed up when they said they would, the work was first rate, they were done quickly, and in general the communication process was excellent. The solar system works very well, it behaves exactly as per spec, and I couldn't be happier. I would definitely use REC solar again, and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone else.

They were completely professional. They phoned when they said they would, showed up when they were supposed to and did a very good job. The panel installation was quick and very nicely done. They worked with us to supply our panels through a wholesale store, which meant an additional savings. They've continued to stay in contact, even though the installation is finished, just to be sure we're still happy (we are!) and to answer any questions. Altogether a good company and a good experience.
Description of Work: REC Solar came to our home, and worked up a preliminary estimate. Once we signed the contract, they sent engineers out to come up with a workable plan for our panels based on our house site and electrical needs. REC Solar then installed the panels and all wiring necessary.

I was completely satisfied with the REC Solar process from end to end. I obtained estimates from two solar power vendors, as advised by the state solar initiative website. Both companies recommended a 3 kW system, and REC came in at a lower price with some advantages such as stainless-steel mounting hardware compared to galvanized materials. The people I dealt with were completely professional and responded immediately to a number of detailed technical questions. The contract and services were clearly explained as was the state solar initiative rebate and rebate on federal income taxes. The return on investment was discussed as well as the option to partner with a company who would own and service the system. This would have significantly reduced my up-front investment, but I opted to own the unit. There was a 90-100 day backlog of work when I signed the contract, but the work began a few weeks before the original estimate date and was finished on-time in about one week. The utility company requires up to 6 working weeks to approve connection of the system and to install a digital power meter, but this happened two weeks after the work was completed. The system operates perfectly, remote monitoring of output with the WebBox is very convenient, and the system produces slightly more than 100% of my daily power requirements (even in late October). There have been no problems.
Description of Work: Within a few days of contacting REC, they sent an engineer to evaluate my home for a solar power installation and to determine system capacity (it is 3 kW DC). They recommended that two trees be removed to increase system output in the late afternoon and to maximize the CA rebate. REC provided a turn-key service: they obtained all the building department permits and arranged for the inspection, applied for the state solar initiative rebate, and filed forms with the local utility company to have the system inspected and certified for connection to the power grid. They installed 15 solar panels on a 2nd storey roof, installed the SunnyBoy inverter and all power wiring, and installed an optional network-based performance monitoring system (Sunny WebBox). The WebBox allows real-time monitoring on a PC or web-enabled mobile device of system output, data-logging, and connection to a remote website that provides daily and monthly performance summaries that is accessible world-wide (I highly recommend this option to anyone interested in monitoring system performance).

All work was done very well and ahead of schedule. The REC guys were exceedingly courteous and easy to work with at all times - from sales to engineering to installation to permitting. Their estimates of system size, configuration, and schedule turned out to be spot on. We didn't have to do anything, and a couple months after installation (August 2008) the system is generating maybe a little more electricity than we were expecting.
Description of Work: REC installed a rooftop 4.9 kilowatt photovoltaic system with a utility intertie: Approximately 30 panels in three arrays, two south-facing, one west.

REC was very professional throughout the entire process, from estimating to scheduling the local power company, and the panel installation itself. They had the system up and running flawlessly sooner than projected, and we were very pleased with the quality of the work. The crews were very sensitive to our requests and completed the job in less time than expected. We were part of the community program, and got all available rebates and discounts to lower the total price, and had all of our questions answered well in advance of making a decision on the system. Marni Kamzan did a terrific job of organizing the program and simplifying the whole process to make our decision to go with REC an easy one. We could not be happier with our decision or the system! Thanks REC!
Description of Work: REC installed a solar panel system on our residence in April 2008. They interfaced with the local power company and the local solar service company throughout the installation.
