Fantastic job. I thought the floor was beyond hope, as it had some serious stains and scratches from 60 years of abuse. He was honest about what could be done with some problem areas, but after the work was completed I was seriously amazed. We also had him install new oak trim. Pricing was very fair, he was on time starting the job and done a half day early. We are very happy.

We had some wooden floor damage due to Termites. We had taken care of the Termite problem but there were a few slats that were affected and very damaged so we wanted to replace them. As we have wooden floors throughout the house we didn't want to have to repair and stain the whole floor due to cost. Rudolf came to inspect the floor and he recommended that we just repair the affected slats and that he could match the stain as close as possible over a small area so that it would blend with the rest of the house. We had roughly 10 feet of floor stained once the initial repairs were done. At first I was skeptical that the stain wouldn't match but now a few months after, you can't really tell where the blend is and it looks great. I would recommend getting in touch with Rudolf Hardwood Floors if you are looking for a flooring specialist. Pricing was very fair and the work was fast.

This went extremely well! He is professional and wants perfection. I have a general contractor working on my house and he said the sign of a good hardwood floor job is that you see no sanding marks in the wood. There are none. The floor looks as if there was new wood laid and not refinished. The stain match was prefect. All in all, this was the best work that I have done on my home. If you need your floors done, contact this company.

Thank you for your review, and thank you for recognizing all the little details we pay attention to.
Zsolt Rudolph rocks! He showed up on time for the estimate, gave us a quote on the spot and scheduled and showed up to do the work on time. Then he took pity on me and cleaned up some transition work between two different floors that I had done poorly. Before I knew it he was down on his hands and knees fixing my mistakes and I didn't even have to ask. He did a nice neat job of screening the floors and applied a coat of oil. The floors look fantastic! The bad, worn spots came up like new. And he did all the work in a little over two hours. He knows what he is doing. He's also a very calm and knowledgeable floor guy. He put me at ease and has earned my respect. No regrets whatsoever. Hire him, you will not be disappointed. Oh and when I offered to pay him some more for fixing my mistakes, he refused and would only take the amount of his initial bid. Unbelievable service. And no, Zsolt, is not a relative of mine, but I wish he was.

It went perfectly. We highly recommend
Description of Work: Removed 2 thresshholds from our parquet floors. For one, he had to fill in the gap with parquet tiles and match the color. When he finished, the transition from one room to the other looked as if this was the original floor. The other required sanding and color matching. He also fixed gaps in the parquet floor in another room finishing with varnish. The floor now looks like new.

We were told by other installers that we had to install engineered wood flooring, but we fell in love with a specific type of flooring that only came in solid. Fortunately, Rudolf assured us that the solid would be fine due to the type of product(glue) he uses to install the wood. The flooring was shipped to us from Georgia, manufactured in China. Although we loved the look of the acacia wood, the product we received was slightly warped, and every plank was not in perfect condition. Rudolf did a great job working with the not so perfect product, and are floors turned out great! In the end we got the floors we loved, and Rudolf made it happen.

We recently contacted three hardwood floor contractors to give us estimates to remove the carpet and refinish the hardwood floors beneath the hallway and master bedroom. Three contractors came to our home to give us an estimate. Mr. Rudolf from Rudolf Hardwood Floors was the least expensive. We liked that he gave us the estimate on the spot and we liked how easy it was to interact with him. We signed the contract. Mr. Rudolf was on time each day, cleaned up after each day and in four days the hardwood floor was refinished and looked great. We are very happy with the results and we would highly recommend Mr. Rudolf for any hardwood flooring job.

Rudolf came out for an estimate. He was very professional and courteous and gave us a great price to refinish our hardwood floors. Rudolf called us back right away to schedule a time to come out. He worked with our schedule to find a good day and time and arrived on time. He is busy, but scheduled us for a date that would work, and even called us immediately when there was a sooner opening in his schedule. We ended up going with a friend of the family due to family pressures...but would use Rudolf in a heartbeat in the future if the need arises. I'm certain he would do excellent work!

The project was well handled. He came when he said he would. He sealed off the room and kept the area clean after he took out the carpet. The final result is really excellent work. He also took care of a couple of items that came up during the work which was very helpful. Got to say Home Depot was good as well. Took the return back to the store and had the refund done quickly with no fuss.
Description of Work: Rudolf installed a new hardwood floor in our family room. The area is irregular in shape and about 400 square feet. My wife had been wanting the room which had always been carpeted before converted to hardwood for a long time. She initially went to Home Depot and bought some laminated style flooring to get the project off the ground. I found Rudolf here on Angie's list and he came over the next day to provide a quote for installation of the flooring my wife had purchased. Since he is a craftsman, it was great that he helped my wife to understand that a "true" hardwood floor would be a much better alternative. We agreed to his price and he started the following week. The floor looks great and matches nicely with the existing run in floor that connects to it. Rudolf was great to work with and clearly knows his stuff.

Zsolt did an excellent job weaving in the new hardwood floor and matching the color of our existing wood. He was very professional, on time every day and a hard worker with a pleasant personality. His price was very reasonable; in fact, we had gotten one other quote, but it was over 1K more than what Zsolt charged us. The finished floors are beautiful and we will definitely use Rudolf Hardwood Floors when we decide to refinish the hardwood in the rest of the house. He pays attention to detail and takes pride in his work. We highly recommend him. He also got the job done in 1 week, which was great, because this re-model has been going on forever!
Description of Work: We have hardwood floor in most of our home, but had ugly white tile in the kitchen. During our kitchen re-model, we tore out the tile and decided to extend the hardwood floor. We hired Rudolf's Hardwood Floors to add the new wood and then sand and re-finish the entire living room, kitchen and entryway.

As described above, Rudolf worked on the wood floors in my son?s house in San Jose. It is a 100 years old house we just remodeled completely and it had old damaged Douglas Fir wood floors in it bedrooms which we wanted to repair and refinish and we installed new red oak floors in the living room, kitchen, dining room and sun room. We are very happy with Rudolf's work. The floor is beautiful and the house was completely transformed. The old Douglas Fir floor that was repaired and refinished looks great and it seems to have a soft rustic glow to it. The repairs blend in and it is hard to tell where are the boards that have to be replaced. The new red oak floor looks great as well - it is flat, straight and has a soft golden shine to it - just beautiful. Due to the age of the house, the project was full of challenges and Rudolf solved them one by one. The transitions had to be tailored with a different approach to each of the five openings and the results are outstanding. Regarding his work style - Rudolf is a perfectionist and he had the patience to deal with each aspect of the flooring and each problem that presented itself until the solution was to his satisfaction. Rudolf was really after the best results and wasn?t in a hurry just to finish the job. In addition, shortly after he started, we decided that we wanted to install toe-kicks in the kitchen instead of dealing with the vendor's flimsy material. Although it wasn't in the original scope of the project Rudolf was very flexible and took it on without hesitation and delivered a perfectly executed work. All in all - Rudolf was a real pleasure to work with and the results are fantastic. We love the way the floors look. I will not hesitate to call him again for any future project.
Description of Work: The project was performed in a remodeled historical 1,800sf house in San Jose. The project included (1) refinishing and repairing a very old (~100 years old) Douglas Fir wood floor in the three bedrooms and hallway of the house. (2) installing new Douglas Fir floors in walk in closet and another bedroom closet. (3) Installing and finishing new red oak floor in the front of the house including living room, kitchen, dining room and sun room. (4) installing red oak floor above a trap door to the basement. (5) tailoring and installing transitions between the old Douglas Fir floor to tile floors in 3 bathrooms and laundry room. (6) installing red oak boards as toe-kick under the kitchen’s cabinets. The finish included sanding everything, repairing and filling of gaps, a coat of sealer and two coats of oil based varnish.

***My proposed solution to Zsolt Rudolf Hardwood Floors: An equitable approach would be to have Angie's list personnel randomly select 3 licensed flooring/ hardwood contractors in our area and get their opinion on the repair done by Zsolt Ruldolf Hardwood floors. If the majority rule in his favor, they side with the work he has done and this is the best possible outcome. I will gladly remove my review from Angie's list and not post any further reviews of my experience on this or any other site. If they find it in my favor under the circumstances that more diligence could have been applied in making the repair match within reason (selection of material, prepping) all reasonable expectations of a repair then he will be required to forfeit funds in the amount required for the repair as well as making the repair blend with the rest of the flooring as this fulfills a completed refinish project by the selected licensed flooring/ hardwood contractor. This is very fair, it's not my opinion against his opinion. We are bringing in a 3rd party of his peers who are professionally licensed hardwood/ flooring contractors to be the judge of his work and my expectations. Zsolt's Rudolf reply is a reflection of his character. For one thing, his story does not match up. There is a serious inconsistency to it. He said he spent 2 more days on the project? How is that possible? Here's the timeline of the project as agreed upon: Work Day 1 - Wednesday, April 4, 2012 - Sanding/ patch and repair work Work Day 2 - Thursday, April 5, 2012 - Received phone call about dark spots in hardwood floors after sanding could not remove them. I immediately responded to Rudolf and let him know to replace problem areas via phone call. We discussed the cost and he AGREED to do the repairs. Rudolf also took this time to apply 1 of 3 coats of polyurethane (takes 8 hours to dry) Work Day 3 - Friday, April 6, 2012 - Second coat of polyurethane applied another 8 hours for floors to fully dry. Saturday and Sunday - Did not come out Work Day 4 - Monday, April 9, 2012 - 3rd and final coat applied and day he was paid. I could not inspect the work prior to paying him because the floors were freshly coated with polyurethane. In case anyone was wondering why I paid him. My mistake for giving him the benefit of the doubt and paying before inspecting. The original contract stated 3 coats of polyurethane would be applied. Each coat takes 8 hours to dry. He only came out for the scheduled 4 days during the entire project. Keep in mind the first day was used for sanding/ repairs. Where does he squeeze out an extra two days of work from? This guy is a very dishonest person and it shows in his response to my review. I have my bank withdraw receipt on the day he was paid. This also shows he took shortcuts in doing the repairs so he could rush on to the next job. There's no denying the timeline. In response to the repair job being done on Friday and we had the whole weekend to look at it. As many of you know, when you have your floors finished with Polyurethane, the home is unlivable due to the heavy fumes. We did not go into our house during the weekend because we did not want to tamper with the flooring and wanted to allow it to dry completely. Keep in mind, it's not our job to make the floor repairs blend with the flooring, that is what Zsolt Rudolf floors was hired to do. Please take a look at the images of the work as well as the questionnaire I developed for the 3 separate licensed flooring contractors referred by Angie's list. during the dispute phase. The questionnaires do not lie and they are signed questionnaire statements from reputable and licensed flooring contractors. Don't perceive this review as only a one person review but rather a review from 4 different individuals/ companies.
Description of Work: We had Zsolt refinish our living room, dining room, a small hallway and closet area for about $1230 - 120 (-10% from Angie's list discount). In addition to the refinishing, we had him replace some problems areas for an additional $350. We had Zsolt refinish our living room, dining room, a small hallway and closet area for about $1230 - 120 (-10% from Angie's list discount). I believe I was over charged for additional repairs in a few areas that needed to be redone because the sanding could not remove some dark spots. He quoted me $200 something to $300 for the additional repairs over the phone. We agreed to it because who wants a freshly refinished floor to have noticeable dark spots. When the final bill came in it was $350 dollars, a $50 dollar premium over the max quoted price. This was a very dishonest and downright disturbing. The other problem I have with his quoting was he said he needed to replace about 20 square foot worth of materials. 12"x12" = 1 square feet, 20 sq ft come on..rip off! He did not replace 20 square feet worth of wood for the additional $350 amount he charged. He even admitted more than once to me over the phone and said he spent $87 in materials. Really? So your labor was $263 for two hours of additional work? How much are you legally allowed to charge hourly? That doesn't make any sense considering you left early on the 4th day of the project and almost always arrived late on the other days and always left before 4. I realize you reside in the south bay and have to pick up materials but don't charge your customers extra money on the back end to compensate for your personal schedule. The thing that upsets me most about the job was one replacement plank of wood that was completely off the color grid of our red oak he put it in. I couldn't believe it. Zsolt had the audacity to ask why I didn't bring it up over the weekend...well I didn't bring it up because I trusted you as a professional to make the replacement resemble the existing flooring within reason, what you did was not anywhere near within reason. I didn't know you weren't going to finish the wood to bring it up to a color at least close to matching the red oak we had. You were able to do the other replacements without direction for the other problems areas. I don't get paid to match the existing red oak flooring or put in a replacement planks that are suppose to come close to it. My role in this is the consumer. I'm posting my picture of the problem I have and you can be the judge of it. In my opinion, I would not recommend Zsolt who is a licensed professional in this trade & has done it for a number of years and allowed this to happen. It doesn't make any sense and to over charge a fee of $350 when materials cost him $87. Also taking into consideration the most critical aspect, the repair did not match the wood because he did not finish it properly. I was disappointed. When I called him up and let him know I was not satisfied with the choice of wood he had used to replace it, of course he went into how wood is a natural product and has a variation of colors which I agree wholeheartedly but when you repaired other parts of the house and the wood looked close enough and you have a piece that looks like white oak next to red oak, there's a problem. It was Rudolf Hardwood floors responsibility to replace, prep (sand/ finish/stain/ install) or whatever is necessary to get the wood to resemble the color of the existing floor within reason. This did not happen. Zsolt did offer a remedy. The remedy would be to apply some golden oak min wax on top of the 3 layers of satin polyurethane he had already applied. Come on, the golden oak stain should be the initial coat when you were supposedly prepping and finishing it for installation not on the top coat unless you want your floor to look murky for that one plank. During the phone conversation Zsolt tried to flip the tables and make me feel a guilt trip by saying the following, "What do you want me to do? Come all the way back and fix that one piece of wood for you?" I was thinking yes, I then asked him how he would fix it? He said he would stain the existing problem plank with golden oak on top of the polyurethane finish." I'm not in this trade but I've read enough on how to apply stains, colors and the various types of available finishes and their expected results. The right way of handling this in my opinion is to remove the problem plank and finish a different plank in its place to make it blend with the rest of the flooring. This was not my mistake, this was a bad judgment call by Zsolt and it left an unpleasant experience for us. If you take anything away from this review, take away these key points. A) Initial quote very reasonable for living room and dining room, small hallways and small closet area $1230 - 120 = $1110 B) Additional repairs as quoted over the phone for approximately 20 sq ft. (20 - 12x12) area? The repair did not consist of this much wood. Total for additional work was $350 ($87 materials and $263 labor). repairs went over the quote and the result was not to our satisfaction. C) Zsolt did not cover any of the doors with protective sheeting as he states he will from dust even though we had requested it. He did not protect any of my baseboards either thus knicking the paint off all over the rooms he finished. I asked him if he could put tape on the baseboards, his response was that the chemical used to treat the floor during the refinish process would cause the tape to permanently stick to the wall thus causing even more issues. I later found out he could have easily protected the paint on my baseboards by using a thin cut piece of wood to protect it. Here's the source article from the online website referencing this method: http://www.handymanclub.com/diy-projects/articletype/articleview/articleid/5079/how-to-refinish-your-hardwood-floors D) The other issue was he did not honor the Angie's list 10% off discount on the repairs even though the job happened concurrently and was related to refinishing the floor. Zsolt said it was only good for the original quote and did not fulfill the full discount as advertised on Angie's list. E) Plank of wood chosen for one of the problem areas completely did not match the original red oak. Given that the original red oak is 70 - 80 years old, I can understand that there won't be a exact match but let's be realistic...red oak and a piece of white oak are two different colors. In addition, you made repairs on other parts of the flooring and they were acceptable because the color was not that far off. All in all, it started off nice and friendly with Zsolt Ruldolf Hardwood Floors but in the end I am left with a distracted and incomplete feeling of the project. I feel cheated, lied to and overcharged for the repairs. We strongly felt Zsolt could have practiced better judgment in selecting and finishing the correct piece of wood for the repair and he could of had more pride in his work product. To avoid any headaches or questionable practices I wouldn't recommend Zsolt Rudolf hardwood floors. I challenge you to take a look at the picture of the replacement/ repair and you be the judge.

I'm sorry my work not met the owner satisfaction. Since the original refinishing job was almost completed, additional repair and the extra repair cost was come to $300, plus additional request for molding installation at bedroom doors (3) $50. I believe this is very fair price, for two more days of work, and traveling to Oakland 68 miles a day, and spending 3 hours in traffic on 880. As for the ONE piece of red oak floor that is lighter then the rest of the floor, the repair was down on a friday. The family was around every day, I had frequent phone calls with the owner nobody said or asked about that piece of wood until after I applied the finish coat. My recommendation was to stain the one piece of wood in question, the owner had to talked this over with the family, next day I find out in his review this is not preferred by him. Thank you Rudolf
Rudolf Hardwood Floors communicated really well, I liked their service, and they were very kind. They were here when they said they would be and their price was far better than any other out there. They were very thorough and willing to accommodate me.

I was really impressed with Rudolf Flooring. I liked what I read in angies list reviews and I was hoping to have a similar experience. I was not disappointed. They arrived when they said and finished when they promised and my sad circa 1950s oak floors look new and beautiful-for a reasonable price. Mr. Rudolf even went into the crawlspace under my house and fixed the squeaky spots in my hallway.. I would highly recommend this company to my family and friends (and I have).
Description of Work: I had my old oak flooring-in 3 bedrooms a hall and living room sanded and refinished.

Rudolf responded quickly to our quote request. After buying this fixer upper, we had high hopes for the hardwood floor that had been kept under the carpet for many years... Unfortunately, we should have assumed the worse instead of the best for the floor condition! Several leaks from the roof/attic damaged the floor at several spots and only few areas could be salvaged.Rudolf helped us through the process. He started by repairing and sanding. After further considerations, we decided to re-do most of the living room floor for which the marks of water damage were still showing. Rudolf completed the work quickly and efficiently. The new floor match nicely the old one. The price was reasonable. Rudolf care about you, the customer, and we will definitely call him in a few years for our next house! I will add pictures later on.

Mr rudolf explained the entire process and what would occur every day. After every day he completed by cleaning and vacuuming to reduce the dust etc. so that I could use the kitchen. considering the scope of the removing particle board, two/three layers with nails of OLD linoleum and replacing with beautiful oak floor it all went off amazingly quick and hassle free-for me. He moved all the appliances back and forth and helped me to get a hutch back together,. It was so amazing that he even assisted me to put floor protectors for the tables, chairs and the heavy hutch. Removed old screws that would have ruined the new floor and replaced them with felt protectors. Installed trim and painted it to match the wall. The new floor over the hole where the heater used to be was stained 2 days so that it matches the existing floor. Mr.Rudolf took the extra steps to complete the project professionally.

Everything went well and there were no problems.
Description of Work: Sanding and refinishing four rooms and a short hallway (total 850 sq. ft.). Three rooms had floors over 50 years old and one room was installed approx. six years ago but was never finished. Mr. Rudolf was very prompt, thorough, and he included a couple of door thresholds. He worked an extra day to finish the job because the sanding took longer to complete than he had planned. The floors look great and I would definitely use his services in the future.

I decided to do the refinishing when my kids were off at camp; Rudolf was able to do the job with short notice. He did a great job of explaining what needed to be done, how the floors would look afterward, and how long it would take. He gave me a 10% discount for paying cash which really helped. It took him only a few days and we are very happy with the result. My floors are beautiful now.
