7-26-16: Our GE Monogram Microwave, circa 1997 finally died yesterday. So sad... Not that it died, but that it was built-in to our very expensive kitchen cabinets and there is not another model on the face of the Earth that will fit in that same space. At least not without some major cabinetry work. Anyway, I know a little bit about this stuff and I figured it was probably a burned out Magnetron, so instead of screwing around, I looked for place that specializes in Microwave repair and J & H was the only place with a physical shop, that would allow me to bring it in myself and not pay for a service call simply to pick it up. Called J & H yesterday and they said it probably WAS the Magnetron and quoted me a price of $175.00 on the spot for the part. I took it in to their shop, got a call 3 hours later with a quote for the new Magnetron ($203.00... what???). So a little higher than they quoted me on the phone, but the labor was only 40 bucks, so I can't really complain. People gotta make a living. The important thing here is that they are going to fix and get it back to us, fast. Probably 4 day turnaround (part will be there in 2-3 days). So that's great. I did not realize how much we use our Microwave until it was gone. So far, I'm very impressed with the service and the price, and will definitely use them again. UPDATE: 10-10-17 Love these guys! My old built-in Microwave stopped working again the other day and once again I called on J&H to help us, and help us they did. This time they had to go deep into the circuit board and found a burned out Capacitor. Cost me 70 bucks parts and labor. Worth every penny! It is a amazing to me in this day and age of "throwaway" circuit boards that someone is still willing to sit down with a Soldering Iron and do this kind of technical repair. I doubt many places would have had the expertise for a repair like this. Could not be happier.

A 5-10 minute repair. Part was covered under warranty. $189 for service call and labor. Thought that was pricey, but if I don't ever have to replace it again, I will be satisfied.

Oscar came in and checked things out and said it was a burned out control board (the fridge is 12 years old). Based on my description, he assumed that was the issue, so he had brought a board with him for our model fridge. It took him about an hour to replace to board and he even showed me on the old board where the problem was. It was a fairly sophisticated board so I knew it wouldn't be cheap.
Description of Work: My Kitchenware built in refrigerator's motor starting cycling on and off about every 5 seconds and each time it went off, there was a "beep", similar to a smoke alarm with a dying battery. I called them, explained the problem and they made an appointment for between 8 and 10am the very next morning. Oscar rang my doorbell at 9am.

My micro wave oven failed. Since it is built in to the cabinet with my conventional oven, I cannot pull it out. And since the appliances are so old, it was doubtful if the parts are available. So Mr. Munger advised me to buy a counter top unit and not waste my money on a repair call. Now that's an honest man.

I bought a dishwasher and I bought it in black. And despite that it was the wrong color, they actually changed all the elements to make it white. Well, I think for most things, if they were gonna charge me, I think it would've been $139 which was more than reasonable.

Tech showed up a few minutes early, and listened to my description of the problem. He put down a protective mat to avoid any possible floor damage, looked at door and was immediately able to determine the problem - and it wasn't a broken spring as I had thought.. He pulled the unit out several inches, corrected the problem and reinstalled the unit. He was very courteous and friendly and very knowledgeable about our dishwasher. The price was exactly what I was quoted on the phone when I made the appointment. I will use J and H Microwave and Appliance for any future appliance issues.

Jand H did not solve my problem. After looking at the water and melted ice it was determined that my water was the problem. He suggested I contact a treatment company and, to be fair, they did not recommend any particular person or company or try to sell me anything. After thinking about the situation I contacted another appliance repair company who replaced my ice maker and solved my problem (Ace Appliance).
Description of Work: Jenn-Aire set up the appointment with J&H for my 10 year old refrigerator/freezer. When the ice from my freezer (ice maker) melted a white residue would be left in the bottom of the glass - you could also see white specks in the water as the ice melted. The service person looked at the water and melted ice and determined that I had a water quality issue. He suggested I contact a water treatment company. Charged me a service call fee and left.

Scheduling through the KitchenAid website was extremely easy, and J and H's confirmation was very professional. So, from the start, we were hoping for a good experience. Of course, we were worried it would be expensive -- these things are kind of specialty stil... Overall, the experience was extremely positive. There was a very minor miscommunication on appointment time, but I'm still giving them all A's because they were so polite. George, the repair tech, arrived and quickly went to work. We feared that there was a motor gone bad (the error code indicated a motor problem,) so we were expecting it would be a $500+ job. George quickly determined that the root cause was calcium build up (our water is loaded with it) and set about cleaning up both drawers. He then explained how to combat this, and give us two bottles of a special cleanser to use every three months. Whole visit was less than an hour, and George was very thorough in his explanations. He made it clear that J and H honors follow up within 12month with only a $20 call fee, so it made 100% sense not to replace the motor unnecessarily. He explained that if the motor were to go out, we'd only have to pay the $20 plus part. He was confident that removing the calcium build up should do the trick. That evening the cleanser runs finished and both drawers were back in action! What a great experience. We definitely recommend J and H to anyone with KitchenAid. Or, for that matter, any brand J and H covers!

J and H was recommended by KitchenAide. My oven controls had stopped working, and since my frig also had a condensation drainage problem, I had them fix both. Easy to make the appointment. Chris-the-service-guy came well within the appointment time-frame, and was knowledgeable and professional. ( I had a DIFFERENT company try to fix the frig last year, but the problem came back within a few weeks.) Chris used MUCH better tools ( a steam-thingey to unblock the frozen drainage pipe) than the previous company had, and he also added a $12 small metal item in the freezer that will help to keep the condensation-drainage hole from freezing over again. The oven needs a new control panel, so he is ordering the part, and explained the pricing for coming out to replace that once the part comes in. Overall a VERY good experience, and I plan to continue using J and H if I have other large appliance problems.

I purchased an Electrolux Double Oven in August, 2010, for my new kitchen. Our house had burned down on 12/25/08 and we rebuilt it and moved back in on August 20, 2010. It was a high end, expensive Double Oven with lots of computer controls. The oven started having problems in December, 2011 while still in warranty. After I cleaned the bottom oven, it would not heat up over 100 deg. So, Standards of Excellence where I purchased the oven, sent J and H Microwave out to do an in-warranty repair. From March, 2011, until December, 2011, J and H came out 10 times to fix this oven - all in-warranty repairs (I purchased a 3-year extended warranty after the oven started having problems). They always came out within a few days of being called. They usually had to come out first, determine the problem and then order the parts and come back to install them. It usually took from 4-7 days for them to get the parts. They were alway prompt, always came within the timeframe they gave me and did the repair work quickly. If they had any questions about what part to replace, they called the engineers at Electrolux. They replaced three parts in the oven before the problem was fixed. Then - another problem came up with the top oven. The temp would vary from 150 to 200 deg. higher than the temp I set it at. They replaced two parts for this problem and it failed to fix the problem. There were no more parts to replace! Now, both myself and J and H were saying that the oven needed to be replaced. Scott Munger contacted their Electrolux rep to replace the oven, but Electrolux was not cooperating and they were giving him a hard time. Scott fought the battle with Electrolux, even preparing a long repair report over the Christmas Holidays on his own time! He would not give up until they consented to the replacement! I have never had a repair company fight for me. Most would have just told me to contact Electrolux to fight the battle! I appreciate so much what he did. My new oven was replaced on 2/7/12 and has been working well with none of the previous problems!
Description of Work: 12/21/10 - replaced fuse - bottom oven 3/14/11 - replaced blower motor - bottom oven 9/19/11 - replaced fan - bottom oven 11/23/11 - replaced thermostat - top oven 12/14/11 - replaced control board - top oven

They determined that the display/control unit and the filter needed to be replaced, along with the icemaker. Came out, replaced all three, assured me all was well, but in fact the cooling problem got worse. The ice maker still didn't work, the temp in the freezer rose and the filter alarm was still going off. Very nice service manager talked to me, contacted the Thermador area manager but didn't get anywhere. I called Thermador, spent weeks attempting to get the situation resolved and finally they requested a second diagnosis by a different company. That company came out, within 5 minutes determined that the fan on the freezer was not working (hence the cooling problem) and also stated that the problem with the icemaker was a known issue involving an internal wiring problem that would require replacing the whole freezer. Jand H's technician should have known about the wiring problem and should have noticed that the fan was not working when he replaced the three other parts and assured me that all was now working as it should. The only positive about the whole experience was that the service manager immediately refunded the only charge I had paid (for the filter replacement) when I told him that the alarm was still going off and the repairs had not fixed the problem. One other issue was that after the initial diagnosis, they apparently called Thermador and were told that my freezer was not under warranty (which was not the case); I didn't know that that was why they had not come out to complete the repair until I called them 10 days later wondering what was taking so long. I had to call Thermador and have them verify that my 2 year warranty was in fact still valid.
Description of Work: They were sent out by Thermador to investigate my freezer difficulties: 1) not cooling sufficiently and had a Filter Change alarm going off and 2) non-functional ice-maker.

The repairman arrived within the time window of the appointment. After I showed him my receipt for the dishwasher, he concurred that the control unit would be replaced at no charge for the part. Only the $85 for the visit was charged. This saved me $200. The repairman had the part with hime, was very fast, and had my dishwasher repaired in 20 minutes or so.
Description of Work: My Bosch dishwasher needed the electronic control unit replaced. I researched the problem before hand on the web and called the manufacturer to find out that the control unit was under a five year warranty. They listed J&H as an authorized repair company that would honor the warranty.

I'm very pleased with this company. They did a great job for us. I thought they handled themselves very well and they got the job done right. The guy from Jand H did a great job fixing our microwave. We had people come out before and to try to fix it and they didn't get it done right. It's a unit that connects with our stove so it would have been a hassle to go out and buy a whole new unit. They saved us money and time.
