I took it to Best Buy on Charleston in Mountain View to the Geek Squad there. I had some prior contact with them - bought my smartphone there and did a replacement when there were some problems and was happy with their service. With the laptop, they checked with me at each step, giving me updates on what they tried to do to fix the problem without full restore. In particular they checked each time about the status of my data backup and if I needed access before they reloaded the operating system. They took the time to answer all my questions. They also were pretty honest on the time estimate. They started at 7 days but explained steps they would be taking, such as running long scans to detect problems. It ended up at 9 days. I got updates during this time so I knew where we were - wasn't just a black hole. I'm very happy with the price although I didn't check Angie's List for discounts (recent sign-up - will remember in the future). I bought the 2-year contract, which retails for $280. I got a $29 AARP discount. The package includes 2 years of security software and I was able to choose the package. I use Kaspersky, which costs $60 annually, so essentially $120 of the cost offset that expense for me. The package includes service for 2 years for up to 3 computers so I'm covered if I buy a different computer. Service is flexible - both hands on at Best Buy and online using "access your computer" software. I really like this package and think it's well worth the expense. I use my computer for my business and need reliable support with quick access. I've had personal computers since 1980 (was a programmer at one point) and have done many restores myself. I considered doing that this time. However I didn't know what else might be wrong and also wanted to avoid full reload if possible. I'm happy I had Geek Squad do the work - I learned how much I could do with my Smartphone and computers at the library! The service was excellent and very customer-friendly. I got to talk directly to technical people doing the work as well as the desk people. I feel really good that I now have resources to call on that are covered under the contract.
Description of Work: I had a number of problems on my laptop. I think from one malware contact in Dec. My security software detected and disabled it but some damage was done. I got a series of problems over 6 months. I suspected corrupted registry and maybe operating system when I took it in. Geek Squad scanned the system, first tried to fix the problems, then eventually reloaded the operating system that had been corrupted. They told me there were no other issues with the computer, and that operating system restore was the only remedy needed. This is like buying a new computer - have to restore everything. They reloaded a lot of my software and did settings for internet etc, which saved me time.

I have been so impressed by them. I was in Europe, and called them because I was having a problem. They were able to make the repair over the phone. I couldn't believe it! I think they really know what they are doing, and are extremely helpful. I wouldn't hesitate at all to recommend them.

Delivery guys showed up on time, within the promised window. Warranty guy has been to my house three times and is very accommodating. These guys know how to fix problems.
Description of Work: Purchased a large 52" JVC rear projection television and stand. These guys were great. They price matched the competition and their service was outstanding. These guys actually know the products they have on the floor. The salesman did not try to push me over to the item that had a spiff unlike the competition where the salesmen were pushing me to buy the item that put extra money in their pocket. The Best Buy warranty has paid for itself twice over AND it covers the TV projection bulb unlike the other company. I was at the competition and actually overheard the regional representative from Mitsubishi boasting about the spiff they were all going to get if they sold their quota.

We decided to go with the one laptop they had, as it was a decent deal. When they brought the box down, it was badly damaged. Clerk would not open the box to ensure the computer was okay. We were told they were not responsible for this sort of damage, if there were a problem we would have to return it to manufacturer for repair. In attempting to speak with Dan, the Manager on Duty, was not willing to budge from this at all, period. Also he refused to listen to us, as soon as one of us opened our mouths to speak, he spoke over us and got VERY argumentative when we calmly tried to explain our point of view to him. At this point, we didn't expect him to change his mind, but his attitude was awful. Apparently, Best Buy thinks that customers have no value whatsoever and we should THANK Best Buy for being in business. Customer Service is something that a Manager On Duty ought to know something about. Dan at Stevens Creek knows NOTHING about this. We will not be back, period.
Description of Work: We attempted to purchase a laptop from this location. They were out of stock of EVERY laptop we looked at, except one that was; surprise, surprise, surprise, much more expensive than anything else advertised or on sale that day. Talk about bait and switch!

They were very good in fixing it and getting the iPod to work normally, but the estimated time was two weeks and they did not stick to their word. The time actually took a little more than two weeks.

This is a well known company. I had a good experience with them all around. The people are courteous and understand customers come first. This is a big company with a large customer base, but still fit everyone in individually. I have no complaints with them.
