Duran Fencing

We had a fence fall over due to the weather. We had to repair the fence. We went through multiple bids, and Duran had one of the better pricings as well as quality. It was a confirmation that they were a good contractor.

It went okay. I had a little problem with one fence, but I am very satisfied. I think the actual work was done as described. I did have one gate longer than the other. I felt this mistake lacked in observation skills. They did maintain their schedule very well.

Although work was scheduled several weeks in advance for a Thursday, Friday...work was delayed by one day. Fence was replaced 80% on Friday with gate remaining for Monday. Area was sealed off to outside entry and broken sprinkler pipe was repaired. Somehow the sprinkler system only worked on half the system (forgot to test system before leaving) so we repaired it ourselves over the weekend as the system needed redirecting around the outside new step anyway. Workers worked nonstop on one of the hottest days this summer and did a fine job. Miguel was great to work with and kept me informed as to the progress. Although Jess and Miguel were willing to update a 4 ft fence area perpendicular to the new fence and did what they could that day, I was disappointed that they could not come back at a later date to make the added piece of fence appealing all the way around. I left several messages with Luis in the office but none were returned. This extra fence piece was not on the original contract, but was added at the job completion.

The work was done perfectly. The new fencing is beautiful.

The overall experience was good. We called them for an estimate first and then someone came out and described in detail everything they would do. That made us very comfortable. They arrived on time and when they were running late one time they called us to let us know.

Bids from several companies. Another company was too busy to come out. High marks for Duran. For Duran, Jess (son of owner) bid significantly higher than another company. I wanted one company based on price; but my wife liked Duran's personal touch + Jess made several suggestions we hadn't considered. We asked Duran to match the other companies price. Unexpectedly, they did (Wow. I mean, they were seriously higher). We then increased the price $300 in exchange for them starting w/in 5 business days (vs. normal +3 weeks). The finished product is rectangular structure (+400ft), raised 3 feet, fencing, stairs, cut-out for slide and kids' stairs. Wood was excellent...work was conscientious and top-notch...workers were diligent/polite. Completed 5 days. We gave workers nice bottles of wine as thanks. Our neighbor, a hard-to-please commercial contractor, was very impressed with the work. Duran arrived EXACTLY at the scheduled appointment times (very appreciated). Duran built a great deck while the other company watched. See how easy it is to lose business? (note, the fence is well built and attractive). Note: Since 2006, we've asked these companies to estimate on 2 fences and 1 deck. We've additionally asked smaller companies to estimate.

They did a great job. The estimator explained my choices clearly and in detail. Workers showed up on time and finished promptly. They cleaned up well. The fence is beautiful!

Not responding to someone's email/phone call is unprofessional. I have hired another company to do the job.

Duran Fencing installed two gates back in 2001, so their materials, techniques and employees may have changed since. The gates still function and look nice, too. Only issues: They had little variety in gate fixtures (handles), so we bought our own and they installed them for us. A slat on one of the gates started to split 2-3 years after install, but they came over and replaced/fixed it for free.

The estimator was very helpful and low pressure. He explained the different grades of wood and advised us on design decisions, explaining the choices and what he would choose and why. The work was done quickly and professionally. They cleaned up after themselves. They were very easy people to deal with. They split out the charges for each neighbor. We were very happy and would use them again.

Overall the work from beginning to end was excellent. The initial quote never changed even after a few months of delay. I called a few days prior to the work only to find out they could not do it on the day scheduled. It was rescheduled. The installer broke one of the sprinklers. Other than those two problems the work was flawless. Workers were polite and professional. Calling the office for scheduling and billing questions the staff was efficient very pleasant to deal with.

The one and only thing that kind of disappointed me was that it took them a while to reply back to me. Other than that, they worked out really well. I liked the reviews I saw on Angie's list. I am sorry, but, I do not remember a charge at this time. I do feel that t was worth it though.

Duran is a very accommodating company and they worked out great for me. I had a couple of little issues, but, they fixed them. I had to call them back because a little piece of wood needed replaced. I thought that they were very nice and everything. Oh yeah, there was one other thing and it was a big problem. I have a pool and they left the gate open two nights. I thought that was kind of dangerous.

I was pleased with the work they did. It went very well and it really makes my property look a lot better. The workers were very nice and did respect our privacy during the installation. They did drive on my yard and make a couple tracks, but I guess they had to get the supplies back there somehow. The price was good. I did call around for pricing and I thought they were the best for the quality.

This company has a lot integrity and takes ownership in their work. What impressed me the most was that the owner himself gave me all the estimates, informed me with what was needed, what work was going to be done and he even did the work himself as well. He offered to put a kick board at the bottom of the fence to give more leverage which gave us an additional foot to the fence in height. When he completed the job, it was beautiful. There was a small difference in price compared to the other companies I researched but they did offer me the extras.

There was a wait to get a quote as they were very busy. However, they showed up when promised and the work was excellent. When they replaced a wide gate, their gate was so much better constructed than the one that was here originally. I have one more section of fencing to complete and I will definitely use them again.

Association officers solicited bids from three fence companies. All were good; Duran's was more professional (arrived on time; listened attentively; made suggestions; delivered detailed proposal on time). They assigned one team that stayed with our project from start to finish. All members of the team were skilled, methodical, courteous, respectful, able to interact with variety of personalities, and were always ready to honor requests and work with us when additional problems were uncovered. Their whole process was clean and efficient.

After comparing several fencing contractors, we selected Duran to replace the fences and gates for 4 houses on our street. The estimator arrived on time and was very thorough. Their price ended up being a bit higher than one of the other competitors (and lower than 2 others), but I went with Duran after I saw an example of their work, which was excellent. They stuck to their original bid with no 'nickel and diming' for add-on items after the work was started (I have heard this practice is somewhat common with less reputable contractors). They were able to schedule a start date 3 weeks out, and when the work began, their crew worked quickly and completed everything on all 4 houses in less than 2 weeks. In short, Duran does good work at a reasonable price, and does what they say they will do. What more could you want in a contractor?

We got three bids, including Duran, and they were all about the same. The Duran estimator was the most friendly and helpful. He worked out the details and gave us the estimate on the spot. He also suggested that we could do the fence at a lot less cost per ft if we did 70 ft. (instead of 45), and we noted that our neighbor was possibly thinking of a fence in another part. The estimator did alternate calculations and bids for the job including the neighbor's part, treating it all as one job, and breaking down the cost for us and the neighbor. We had a bit of trouble scheduling the work, but that was mostly our fault, since we were travelling at different times. Duran was willing to do the job much sooner. A crew of three men did the job. The leader worked with us to decide several details, explaining different options. He was very friendly and attentive to make sure we got what we wanted. He was very skilled and worked rapidly. We are very pleased with the result.

The owner of the company, Jeff Duran, was the one who came out and gave me the estimate. He promised to put up a fence that I would be proud of. Even though their estimate was the highest of the three I received, I am very pleased with it. The quality of the materials is excellent, in fact, there are several boards that do not have any knots at all. I would recommend this company to anyone.

Estimator scheduled for 12:30; I called office at 12:45 and was told estimator running late by 30 minutes. At 2:00 he finally called to tell me he was on his way from Gilroy (to downtown San Jose). I understand contractors run late, but they should at least call as soon as they know they'll be so late -- we all have day jobs too.

Excellent job and reliable workers. The job was completed in one day and looks so nice that many neighbors wanted references. Would have Duran replace other fencing when need arises.

RECOMMENDED TO ME BY A FRIEND AND THE RESPONSE WAS IMMEDIATE AND CAME ON THE SAID DAY TO DISCUSS THE JOB AND GAVE A QUOTE IMMEDIATELY. STARTED WORK ON TIME AND KEPT ME INFORMED ( COMMUNICATION WAS GOOD). QUALITY OF THE JOB WAS ALSO GOOD EVEN THOUGH THE JOB WAS DONE JUST THREE WEEKS AGO BUT SO FAR SO GOOD AND WOULD RECOMMEND THE COMPANY TO OTHERS.

THE WORKMEN WERE PUNCTUAL, QUICK AND EFFICIENT. THEY WERE VERY CLEAN AND NEAT AND LEFT THE YARD IN PERFECT CONDITION AT THE END OF EACH WORK DAY. ALL THE PEOPLE WE INTERFACED WITH, FROM THE OFFICE PERSONNEL TO THE WORKMEN, WERE COURTEOUS AND KNOWLEDGEABLE.

They did an okay job but were not very quick about it. They were just not fast but they did complete the job. When the job was completed they had to return to do repairs which I was less than pleased with. The fence itself looks pretty good but I'm not sure I would hire them again.
