I had an estimate appointment on Sept 18 to assess the replacement of all fences on my property. The person that came was nice and seemed thorough. He promised that I would receive a quote via email the next business day. After a week passed and I didn't receive anything, I worried that they got my email address wrong so I called to follow-up. I was told that they were behind on quotes and I would receive a call when it was emailed out. I then waited another two weeks before calling to follow-up again. This time I was told that someone would call me back. It's now been a month and half since my estimate appointment and no one has called or emailed me. This was a complete waste of my time and I really did not appreciate the lack of professionalism, especially since I had planned on giving them my business.

I submitted a request to Cuevas Lumber & Fence on August 15 and received a note back on August 20 saying that the first available appointment was on September 4. Fine. On September 4, Fidel came to my home to look at my driveway and discuss what I was looking for. We had a very pleasant conversation and he was quick with answers to my questions. He even pointed out some issues with an existing fence I have and made some suggestions for how I could have them fixed. After he left, I e-mailed him with some design ideas and waited to hear back. I e-mailed Fidel again on September 12 but no response, so I e-mailed his assistant (Hugh) on September 15. I was told that Fidel was behind on quotes and that I would receive a call when my quote was sent. I e-mailed again on September 27 but never heard back. Really unfortunate experience since I was hoping to give Fidel my business. I'm fine if a contractor doesn't want to quote a job, but I think it's basic courtesy to just come out and say that.

This company provided three options for building a fence, 4x4 posts set 2' deep, 4x6 posts set 2' deep, and 4x4 posts set 3' deep. We discussed the advantages and disadvantages of each option, and selected the third option since Milpitas has a lot of wind, and wind was the primary reason our previous fence had failed. We also discussed gate options. The company came on time on the date scheduled. They neatly removed the old fence. They built the new fence, including some nice finishing touches. They replaced the dirt and plants next to the fence. They cleaned up when everything was done. During the process they cheerfully explained what they were doing.

Every thing is fine , they did quite a good job.

The estimator failed to show up at the scheduled time. The supervisor had called me around 9:45 to warn me that the estimator would arrive at 10:20, 20 minutes late. Okay, at least I had a little warning. At 10:35 I called the supervisor, who said he'd follow up with the estimator. At 11, as I was leaving for my next appointment, the estimator called to say he'd be there at 11:20. I told him that wouldn't work and to just cancel. I thought a second chance might be in order so I scheduled another estimate for today at 10. I just received a call (at 10:30) from the estimator who said he was stuck and didn't know how long it would take. I told him never mind. I already have an estimate from another company, who showed up extremely promptly as scheduled. Looking forward to working with them.

I've worked with four different fencing outfits over the years and called quite a few more. Fidel, the owner/estimator at Cuesta Lumber is wonderful to work with: flexible, honest and very helpful with suggestions. I would not work with his partner, who has since left, as I found him condescending and rather rude. Fidel was prompt about coming to see me when I had some concerns and all were addressed. His workers were competent, but did not always do everything they were supposed to and I had to remind them several times. Nevertheless, they accomplished everything to my satisfaction with high quality. The standard fence was one of the better quality jobs I've had with the post concrete well above soil level and sloped downward. They accommodated a change on my part for the orientation of the lattice trim, which was my fault, without any fuss. For fencing itself, they are one of the best companies in this area. The driveway gate with the recommended metal frame support looks like it will hopefully have fewer sagging problems than these gates typically experience. The process to get to the final product took longer than I expected. I had to make a few calls to Fidel to make sure my specs were translated properly: things like going back and installing vinyl flashing between the pressure post and my house. Overall, the gate involved more intensive involvement from me than I expected, but I got exactly what I wanted. Pluses: price, flexibility, honesty and quality Minus: communication (i.e. about when they would show up, where they were in the process, etc. Language barrier with workers a slight problem here.)

They did a great job of rebuilding the fence just the way we wanted it. Afterwards, they put primer on and then one coat of paint. At first it looked OK but after a couple of weeks, it looked like it needed another coat of paint. I called Hugh, the owner and explained the situation and without any hesitation, he arranged for them to come out and put another coat of paint on it and now it looks great. I would definitely hire them again.

Well I contacted 4 different fence companys and between our neighbor and I, we decided to go with the person with the lowest price for the job. We told Cuevas fence company that we want your services which was on 4/21/14 and they really did a quick turnaround to come to our house on 4/26/14. I was not home at the time but my neighbor was and he mentioned that the crew really worked fast and diligent. Within a 1/2 day they had finished aprox 64' feet of fence (a board on board style) and six feet high of beautiful cedar color and two gates of identical rounded top style as we had mentioned we wanted. Since this style was slightly different there was a gap on the bottom. I found a solution of putting some nice stones as a nice compliment to the fence. again the only complaint was as always trampling down of plants as they put in the fence of which I knew would happen. :( All in all it has a six year guarentee and I am happy because it looks so nice. I would highly recommend this company. They built a structure that matched the roof of my house to shade the side yard and built us a new gate on the front of our side yard (we did not replace the side yard fence). They were prompt and professional throughout the whole process. From the estimate to final product it was just over 2 weeks. The roof structure is extremely well built and looks great. And the fence gate is solid and better quality than the back side yard fence that we had built a few years ago by another company. They guys who did the job were extremely friendly to me and my kids. The owner of the company (Fidel) answered my questions when I contacted the company. And I am extremely happy with everything.

Hugh contacted me by Angie's List message and then we spoke briefly about the job. The price was the lowest of three quotes I received. The workers showed up promptly about two weeks after our initial contact and agreeing to the quote. We went over the posts which needed replacing and the workers got going. In several hours, they were done and cleaned up all of the mess including the old concrete and posts. The concrete work was done very carefully--not like the work done originally. The concrete was neatly shaped to go up the side of the post a few inches to aide in runoff. The adjoining wood was then carefully reattached to the new fence posts. Our fence was only 15 years old and these new posts will give it many years of additional life before we need to do a full replacement. Excellent, solid work.

The fences and gates are sturdy, well-built, and look nice. They were very flexible in scheduling. After the estimate, the work was done in about 3 days. Cuevas fixed the grade to make it easier to open and close the gates. They showed up on time for the estimate and the work, and they cleaned up well after. The price was competitive. I will use them in the future.

Fidel came out to give an initial estimate. He spoke to my roommate and was very polite and professional. Because I had to have a tree removed and was waiting for a tree service on a big deal (since refunded), I had to wait on getting the work done. When I phoned Cuevas back requesting a new estimate, Fidel came out as scheduled. Unfortunately, after that day, the company became very unprofessional. Fidel never sent the promised, unpadded estimate. In addition, the company never responded to any of the 3-4 phone messages that I left. When I finally spoke to a person at Cuevas, it was promised that Fidel would phone back. Still no phone call!!!! VERY UNPROFESSIONAL! I am starting to realize that, unless you live in a "wealthier" neighborhood, you are not (always) deemed worthy of acquiring services!

Fidel called a day early and asked if they could do the work that day instead of the following day. If not, they would come out on the promised day. I said yes, and they came out right away. The workers were efficient, competent and polite. The work was done as promised and for the price quoted. I am happy with the repair quality. It was a pleasure to do business with Cuevas Fencing and Fidel and I will use them for any future fence repair/replacement work I have.

The fence is very sturdy and functions perfectly. If it were visible from the street, I would probably now sand and stain it, but since it's recessed, I can just leave it as raw wood. Not that attractive, but I can live with it. If you're building a fence or gate and want to to have a "finished" look, I imagine you'd need to specify that ahead of time.

They were punctual, professional, and delivered the job on schedule and within budget. I would definitely hire them again!

The surprising thing is that we used Cuevas in the past and had a good experience. So we called them again to get a quote to replace some redwood fencing and a backyard deck. The scheduling was great. Fidel Cuervas arrived on time and took all his measurements and had some good ideas about the deck. He said he would have a quote that evening or in a few days. Then nothing. I called a week later and left a message. Nothing. I called a few days later and left another message. Nothing. i called a few days later and finally talked to someone who said Fidel was busy but will work on our quote the next day. Nothing. I gave up and have gone with another contractor.

Great job in installing a custom metal fence. The price was reasonable and the communication was excellent.

Work was completed in 1 day. I was very happy with the quality of the workmanship. The quoted cost was 10% below two other quotations I received. The completed fence is very attractive.

The work involved installing the concrete post footings and building out the pergola out of redwood. This project has been gestating for almost a year now because I was not finding the right contractor, especially when you are wanting to drive the design. It is not a complicated design. Just that it is somewhat different and the guy needed to listen to me and work with me. The work spanned two days because of the concrete curing process. On the whole it was a great experience for me. I think the best part was I was able to explain and have an intelligent conversation with Fidel about my design and he provided very good input to my thinking. Unlike other contractors I have worked with before he actually spent time listening to me and evaluating the design. I loved his attention to the wood joinery especially being a hobbyist woodworker myself. The other great thing he was flexible with me changing some of the structural design choices midstream. Initially I was not sure where this project would go, since it took a bit of time to get the quote back. But once things got moving, I appreciated the interaction with Fidel and the quality and speed of the execution very much. His guys that did the work were great and they left the place all nice and clean. I wish they did more contract work besides just fencing and lumber. highly recommended

This was our second service by them and we are completely satisfied. We had a problem with a lockable gate latch and they were right on it and fixed it to our complete satisfaction.

Fidel was on time and the quote detailed. It was easy to schedule the work. The workers arrived on time, worked hard and the repair was well done. We will use Ceuvas in the future and I will reccomend Cueavas.
