My driveway width had been extended close to 4' by the previous home owner to accommodate 2 cars with enough room for one vehicle to fully open its door without hitting the other car. The driveway extension had cracks in it and as we used the area more & more it began to breakup & fall apart. I hired a contractor to do the labor, but I need to purchase all of the supplies & order the concrete. I found Concrete Ready Mix, Inc. in the Yellow Pages and called for pricing. CRM would delivery short loads of ready mixed concrete for business or residential jobs. The cost was $232/yard and I needed 1.5 yards for the job. After tax this brought the total price to $376.71. I was also told that on the delivery day I would have 5 minutes to unload the concrete per yard, so everything above & beyond 10 minutes would incur a "Stand by Charge" of $1+ per minute (I don't recall the exact amount). The price was reasonable so I scheduled the concrete delivery for 10/15 at 11am. On job day the area preparation went quicker than planned so I called CRM, Inc. to see if they could deliver the concrete any earlier. They couldn't confirm how much quicker they could get it out there but they would send the truck once it got back from an earlier delivery. The concrete truck arrived around 10:10am, got set up & began to pour. 10 minutes later, I paid the driver & the truck left. My experience with CRM, Inc. was perfect, I didn't have to prepay, they accommodated a last minute delivery change, the driver showed up on time and my pour was completed in my allotted 10 minute time frame! I did give them a B rating on price as my girlfriend's sister ordered 7 yards of concrete and got a better price per yard...I understand the volume discount & price structure, but I still want the best price. ; )
