Coastal Lumber

He was good and everything. I called them back again. Today, I know that they have established themselves with a minimum and very high priced, it simply is higher than it did before 2 years when I ended up using them. I found them on Angie's List. A couple of years ago they did a good job and I was happy with them. I called them again for another fence project and they do have a minimum now and therefore they couldn’t do what I needed because it was under the minimum. I had to find some other work but the quotation came back rather high. So I just went back to another company and they have taken care of everything for a lot cheaper. The staff that came out were very well and knew what they were doing. I had no problem at all with their quality or the professionalism of any of these people that I worked with. To somebody else, if they wanted to they could call them up but they could probably find somebody cheaper. I probably will not use this provider again in the future because of the price.

The lattice was higher quality than anything I could have purchased, and it fit exactly to my specifications.They did delay the project a few times which wasn't a problem for me because I wasn't in a hurry. They were highly accommodating of my specifications for the project and made some suggestion changes. I would definitely use them again.

The sales guy that came out told me that everything was just going to be just great. He told me that they would bring 50% more lumber so that if they needed to they would put up a new board if one of them were defecting. Well the 2 guys who came out, I feel showed up late. I was told this was going to be a 1 day job, so I figured they were going to come in the morning. Well they didn't come until about 12:45pm and when they did, they dropped off all the lumber and then told me they were going to lunch. I feel like the crew who came out did not have enough experience. When they put in the fence they ended up leaving a 12 inch gap off the ground. They also did not put in cement for the posts. The 2nd day I had to have another guy come out to replace the fence and fix the 12 inch gap.

Randy was very responsive and worked well with getting a date set that worked for everyone. The crew was professional and courteous. They came to the door when they started and at the end of the day when they had to tell us that they would be back in the morning to finish the work. One suggestion -If you have tree roots nearby or tree limb issues be sure to discuss what will be cut and where holes will be dug prior to work being started because once they start they do not come and ask if it is OK to cut this and that limb or if they can dig closer to your trees and bushes. Just be sure to understand the height of the new fence and what will be in the way or where they have to dig to do their job. Overall very impressed with how they worked around sprinklers and the overall value.

. Prior to the replacement we had a very nice looking fence, subsequent to the work the fence did not look good. 1. The point where the three fences come together was never joined and appears unfinished (See Photo 1.) Additional quality issues with the fence were noted. 2. The bottom of the fence does not mate with the retaining wall. (see Photo 2). Gaps of up to 1and frac34;” are visible. 3. There are gaps in the vertical members of the fence (see photo 2). Vertical alignment spacers (Drawing 1) were not used, so the spacing of the panels is uneven and because of this over time as the wood dries and shrinks the panels will come loose and possibly fall out. After 6 phone calls over 3 weeks, Coastal finally came to look at the fence. The representative (Randy) refused to acknowledge any quality issues, therefore no effort was given to any corrections what-so-ever. All in all a very disappointing and disagreeable experience. We do not recommend Coastal for any work.

Everything was wonderful. They did a fantastic job. Everything went well.

the work was scheduled for a Thursday; I called Thursday morning to ask when the workmen would arrive; I was told they would arrive around 1:30 pm; I worked at home to wait for them; my neighbor took the day off from work. They did not show or call on Thursday. Apparently they ran long at the job at another home and were not able to come on the scheduled day, but did not call us to let us know. The workmen arrived the following morning. They were professional and promised to do a good job. I left the workmen around lunchtime, as they indicated that I didn't need to hang around, and it was starting to rain, so I was not sure they would be finishing the job that day. I came home from work around 6 pm and the workmen had just finished the job. According to my neighbor they said they encountered additional rocks or cement or impediments that required more hours to remove. A supervisor had been called to examine the job and understand the longer hours required for the job. According to my neighbor he jumped my neighbors fence to get into his back yard and examine the job. They ended up charging us approximately 40 percent additional charge for the entire job. My neighbor and I both felt the addtional work should have been accounted for in the original estimate. We settled on paying approximately 20 percent extra. The quality of the installed fence was very good.

They called back and came out for the estimate promptly, worked with my neighbor, etc. All went as discussed and expected. I would definitely recommend them!

They were good. We will definitely use them to get a quote again.

They came out and we talked about the fence. They did something different than what I asked for, even though I already knew what I wanted. I decided to go with a different company. It was very strange. He decided that the work that I wanted would cost too much. I didn't like that he made changes like that without talking to me about it. We were also at the border of the area that they cover.

Called and they came out promptly to provide a no cost estimate. SInce this was a shared fence with my neighbor the estimate was broken down so we each knew how much ti would cost us. They offered a 10% discount, which put them about $200 - $250 less then 2 other estimates that I got. I got the estimate on Dec 9, called them on Dec 11th to schedule the work which was done in one day on Dec 15th. While drilling a fence post hole they hit one of my underground sprinkler pipes. The worker that was running the drill felt bad, and assisted me in repairing the damage. This was not his fault, I forgot that the pipe was there (I put it in about 20 years ago). Bottom line when they left, late that afternoon we had a new fence and not a scrap of old wood was to be found. The area was completely clean! It has been just over 6 months and we are very pleased with the new fence.

Our new fence looks great. Like buying a new picture frame for an old picture -- what a huge difference it makes in the appearance of our property. Our fence is "board on board" -- which means it appears the same on both sides of the fence (unlike our old one). The workers were great -- very much into detail and extremely courteous and pleasant to have around. All cleanup was performed and the old materials hauled away.

While we were getting the estimate and having the original work done, Randy was cordial, even friendly and the fence looked really great. Then when they were done and it was time to pay, he started pressuring us to pay cash and how he'd knock $100 off the price if we did. (We chose not to.) But about a week after completion, not only did the boards on the fence start to warp and bend, they also started to grow a white mold. It took a month of almost daily calls to get Randy to call us back. When he did, he was dismissive, rude and condescending. He told us we chose and inferior wood and what did we expect. Once we did get him to come and actually see what was happening to the fence, he told us that he didn't see anything wrong and that if we had treated the fence like he told us, this wouldn't have happened. We endured a couple more confrontations with him with some extremely rude and inappropriate comments before they finally came out and had to replace over 100 boards.
