Services we offer
We specialize in kitchen and bathroom remodeling from planning to completion. We also offer comprehensive cabinet design and installation services.
Our bath remodel went very well, with only minor glitches and delays, to be expected. Michele was very helpful in specing out the work in detail and in choosing materials, colors, etc. She was always responsive, knowlegeable, professional, and has a good eye for design. The people doing the work were very good, thorough, clean, and on time. The primary guy, Ron W, was a pleasure to work with and extremely helpful in all aspects of the job. We are quite happy with the result, and will consider doing our kitchen remodel with AKB in a few months.

We are delighted with our new kitchen. From the design phase to demolition, to installation and finish work, American Kitchen and Bath were professional and helpful. We have a beautiful new kitchen that was done within our budget and within the anticipated time frame. I was promised the kitchen would be done in time for Thanksgiving day visitors, and it was. I couldn't be happier. I would use them again in a heartbeat.

- We absolutely could not have been luckier with the person that did most of the work in our bathrooms, Ron. I am no expert in construction or any handy work, but I could tell he really took his time to do the work perfectly. He would ask questions to confirm where and/or how we wanted things to go (i.e., position of cabinets, mirror, handles in the cabinets, etc.); he kept the area outside of the bathroom as clean as possible, isolating all the dust/dirt to the bathroom he was working in - he always made sure to clean up before leaving for the day. But besides all that, he was really pleasant to have around. Which is a definitely plus when you are going to have someone inside your house for 6+ weeks. - At the end of the work, we felt the other jobs took priority over ours, and we had a bit of delay in getting the second bathroom finished off, and we were having difficulty getting an answer from the project manager on when the work would be finished. However, when we did call the office to complain about it, the issue was resolved right away.
Description of Work: American Kitchen and Bath did the remodel of our two bathrooms. We are very pleased with the end results and overall experience of working with them. They are on the expensive side, but we believe it was worth the price. We also had all the work done with inspections, and did not have any issues with those. The details of the experience: - They designed the bathroom and purchased most of the materials, so there was little work for us on that front. The designer also went with me to a couple of places to select the tile, and pretty much handled the transaction in terms of having the tile delivered to them, how much to order, etc.
granite leftover to do our fireplace, looks gorgeous.
Description of Work: We had a total kitchen remodel which included design, new cabinets, granite, plumbing, flooring, garden window, recessed lighting and paint. We loved working with the designer Michele, she was excellent in helping us bring materials and colors together! The crew were excellent, prompt and courteous. We enjoyed working with each one of them. Mike oversaw our job and was great! Working with Johans was great also, he made sure everything was done as we requested and if we had any problems, we contacted him. Everything went great, job was completed as scheduled and we love our new kitchen! Any bumps in the road were quickly addressed with no problems at all. It was a very smooth transition with the remodel and very little inconvenience. Crew worked a full shift, beginning at 8:00. We love our new granite that Michele helped pick out as well as the backsplash. We had enough

Their professionalism was excellent along with craftsman quality work. This was our first remodel and we were a little nervous with all the horror stories we had heard about remodeling. Michele the designer all the way to the tile setters were extremely professional and easy to work with. When any issues came up they bent over backwards to solve them in a timely manner. They cleaned up everyday at the end of their day and left things neat and tidy. We have more remodeling projects in the future and will be calling them again.

We saw them doing work around the corner from us and then we checked them out on Angie's List. We got quotes from four contractors and they were second from the highest but we chose them because of their designer, the quality of their work and their timeliness. They started the work in March and they finished in August. We would absolutely use their services again in the future.

I was avoiding posting this review. But given what happened today, I felt compelled to. The good: 1. Their designer Michelle is awesome. She came out and gave us a bid. She is really good at design, color matching, and choosing things like granite and cabinets, etc. This was our second project with AKB and she shined both times. 2. The quality is pretty good. The granite and cabinets were installed well. I wasn't super happy with the hood installation, but, in general, everything was put together well with one exception. See below. The bad: 1. We had three project managers on our kitchen remodel. Kevin, then Chris, and then Mike. I liked Kevin. He was really nice, seemed to know quite a bit, and was a very good communicator. Of course, the night before the job started I get an email saying we were getting Chris. Chris is older, probably more experienced, knew what he was doing but was a bit cranky in his communications. Mike.. well.. Mike wasn't around much. Bad communication, bad follow through, etc. We never knew when they would be on the job after he took over. He'd say he was coming by at a certain time and would not show up, etc. I had to write more than one email to the owner to get MIke to respond after he took over. 2. During the bid process, verbally, they kept saying, "its a small kitchen, we can get it done in three weeks". Of course, in the contract the specify four. Okay, my bad, I didn't read the contract so after I complained that it had gone beyond three weeks they pointed out the part of the contract that said four. Well, it took five. 3. As a corollary to #2, they were very responsive during the demo phase. And as long as their were outstanding progress payments to be made, they were there every day and hitting milestones on time. When the progress payments were done, they were remarkably absent and I had to start calling and emailing to get status, next steps, etc. 4. Little things that they promised to do (that were not in the contract) didn't get done. Texturing some wood and prepping for painting didn't happen. Something they said they would do, I kept asking Mike about, but never got done. No big deal, I can do this myself. But its kind of a let down. Lesson here: Get it all in the contract. 5. Last week (a couple of months or so after completion) we developed a leak under the kitchen sink. I decided to call my plumber to deal with it because I didn't want to wait however long AKB would take to get to dealing with my issue. When I get home today I find my garbage disposal had FALLEN OFF its mount and was lying in a puddle under my sink. Joy. Now I have no way to run water in my kitchen until I can get the disposal REINSTALLED. I feel like I tried to patient with this company. I really hate complaining. But it seems to me if your paying premium prices for a job that you shouldn't have to deal with the types of issues I described above. Both times I worked with AKB they were the highest bid. I don't mind paying extra, but when I do pay extra I expect high quality and good service and a fair amount of professionalism. I was hoping to give them my second bathroom to do, but at this point I'll be looking for another provider.

We had contacted 3 different companies for estimates to remodel our kitchen and the Bar in our family room. Michele from AKB was by far the most professional and had the best design suggestions. She walked us through a daunting process and made it very easy. She came out to the house, took pictures, measurements and our ideas and came back with several possible designs. We spent several hours with her on her computer at their office looking at design options. They have a lot of options as far as cabinets, the different woods, counter top materials, handles, plumbing and lighting fixtures. She was invaluable in directing us the different choices in these many categories. She took us to the granite warehouses and gave us an education in the many styles and patterns. She also accompanied us to a tile store and helped us pick out the back splash which really complimented our choice of granite counter top. Prior to the actual start of construction, she brought out an engineer to look at our home to insure everything structurally was sound and to offer suggestions or upgrades to bring the home up to current building codes. As we removed a wall that was separating the kitchen from the dining room, it was critical that everything was up to code. She also brought out the Electrical contractor to go over the new lighting setup and to insure our fuse box could handle it. After the design was agreed upon , materials picked out, she came back one more time with the construction supervisor to remeasure everything one more to insure she had it all correct. We then had a meeting at their office, went over the contract in detail and signed the agreement. The contract included a payment schedule which stated that after major parts of the work, for example "demolition was completed' a partial payment was due. This was how the payment went for the whole job. From the moment they started the actual work, the crews were very professional and clean. They set up plastic wall and door barriers to keep the dust from the construction for the rest of the house. They employees were all professionals and cleaned up each day prior to leaving. There were a few instances where some communication issues came up, but the owner Johans stepped in each time and resolved them. He also stopped by often to personally check on the progress and to make sure we were happy. He's a true professional and really cares that the job is done right. There was one super star among all the workers and his name is Mike Pera. This guy did a little bit of everything and all of it really well. He hung cabinets, plumbing, carpentry, painting and did on the fly corrections when the city building inspectors came by. He was always on time (usually early) and would answer any questions we had through out the day. A real PRO. Our kitchen and the Bar remodel came out fantastic. They all did a great job

It took them a little while to get back to us. They took two or three days to actually return the call. I actually had to call them back and they were apologetic for not returning the call, and then they came out the next day. When he came out, they took a day or two to get a quote back to us. Their quote was inclusive of materials and everything. The reason we didn't go with them was because the guy started talking to me about doing the work without a permit, and I found that a touch unprofessional. He also obviously didn't listen to me. It was a very detailed quote, I thought it was very descriptive and specific, but I also thought he dismissed everything I told him.

Response from American Kitchen And Bath Inc
We pride ourselves on being detailed, honest and above all, professional. We consistently pull permits on our jobs. This client’s job had been started over 5 months ago by others, without the permits being pulled. In an effort to expedite her remodel and relieve her extreme stress level, we offered to continue her remodel like she wanted. I was listening, and I explained in detail that in order to have her remodel permitted as she wanted, an appointment for an express plan check by the City of San Jose would need to be made which takes 4 – 6 weeks and at this appointment we would need to provide drafting and engineering with structural calculations. The cost of this process would be between $3,500 and $4,000.00 and it would delay her start time by at least 4 – 6 weeks. It is obvious that the client moved forward with her planned layout due to her contractor indicating a bath tub on his permit. He pulled a like for like permit indicating that this new layout is existing, which is not the case. A closet wall was being moved to allow for the addition of a tub, a window was being relocated, a wall was being framed for a pocket door and a second sink was being added. These changes were not included in this contractors permit. If this client is so concerned with everything being inspected, she will be very disappointed when she finds out that these structural, Insulations, moisture barriers, electrical, mechanical and plumbing changes will not be inspected because they are not like for like, which in my opinion if fraud.

The job went very well. Johans the owner of American Kitchen and Bath is very knowlegable of his craft, helpful and listens to what the customer wants. His staff is courteous, professional and very clean. I left for work each day and when I arrived home all the construction material had been cleaned up and put back in the garage, which is what we used for a staging area. They were very careful to keep the construction dust to a minimum and kept an easy access path to the garage for me, as I parked my refrigerator and microwave in the garage during the process. I found it easy to contact the office when I needed to clarify or ask a question as the work went along and I applaude them for persuing me to give me the answer, as I am very hard to get ahold of during working hours. They also were very good at coordinating with my cabinet man and the flooring installer. Very professional job, and my kitchen is beautiful! Thank you Johans and Chris and all the gang!
Description of Work: I had a complete re-do of my kitchen. Demolition of existing cabinets, flooring and countertop, re-do of plumbing and electrical, installation of new sink, dishwasher, disposal, enlargement of existing fuse box, new recessed lighting, dry wall and painting. They also made a new cement step for going out to the garage, and move a light fixture to a new location

American Kitchen and Bath remodeled our two bathrooms and our kitchen. We had a WC converted into a half bath, which required the walls to be extended so that there was room for a sink and vanity. The old water heater was replaced with a tankless model, installed outdoors. The kitchen counters were replaced with beautiful quartz, a peninsula was rebuilt so that we could install a dishwasher, and a large backsplash was replaced. In our main bath, the shower was rebuilt, the tub was replaced, the vanity counter was replaced with granite, and the backsplash was rebuilt. They also repaired and repainted the inner hallway of the house. Electrical work was redone for all four projects. American Kitchen and Bath was great throughout the project. The owner, Johans, is a real "hands-on" guy who is very knowledgeable, honest, friendly, and responsive. He tailored the project to exactly what we wanted. He did not oversell, made excellent choices for us when we requested that he do so, and we had excellent quality work at very fair prices. Communication was excellent. They did exactly what we asked. The service during the work as well as the after-sales service was also excellent. For furture remodeling work, I would call them again without hesitation.

Every thing went fine overall...from the time of the job, to the responsiveness of the managers. Well done.
Description of Work: We were given guidance from the very beginning. We just had no real idea of what we wanted. Michelle was a tremendous help. She did go with us at every step, from selection of the granite, to the limestone backsplash. She helped on the cabinets and the flooring. It was all inclusive. The workers were punctual and on time. Excellent job. When we had a problem with the caulking near the backsplash, they came out and replaced it at no cost. I would recommend them any day.

We had two bathrooms remodeled by AKB. The first was a larger bathroom that involved much work. We felt that the work went well for the most part. However, we felt pressured at times to make quick decisions, for example, on paint color, because the bathroom had to be painted by the crew that was on site that day or they would have to be rescheduled for another day. Our second bathroom, a smaller job, was a smoother experience, and AKB did a fine job. Again, it was quite expensive, but overall they did very good work.
Description of Work: Excellent tile work, prompt service. Tight scheduling was not an issue and work was completed on time. Expensive initial estimate. It is essential for homeowners to be very specific as to what they want in order to avoid confusion. The homeowner should familiarize themselves with terminology of the fixtures before finalizing orders.

Thanks for the nice words. The project was costly because the home had a concrete slab, and no attic. It makes things a lot more complicated and time consuming when you move things around. Sorry, we did not mean to pressure you about paint colors but we could not wait any longer. We have the paint color question on our detail sheet, and our project manager asked for it as well, but it was hard for you to decide. Anyhow, we appreciate working with you, and thanks for the biz Johans

The beginning of the remodeling process was great. Michelle took time to show my wife and I many options that we could do to each of the bathrooms based on our budget. She was very attentive to our needs. The project manager David was very thorough in ensuring that the work was done as planned. The workers did very good work and performed the work on time. My wife and I are extremely happy with the results. We highly recommend AKB to anyone who is planning on doing any bathroom upgrade/remodel.
Description of Work: AKB did 3 bathroom remodeling. The remodeling included removing all of the old fixtures and also a re-pipe since the house is an older one. Everything installed was new (shower, bath, tile floors, .etc) except for 2 of the vanities. Work was done in approximately 1 week.

They were terrific about coordinating with us while my husband did the flooring and painting and installed the light fixtures. And the finished job was excellent. The only reason I gave them a B rather than an A on quality was the piping. The original person they sent out was no expert and had great difficulty with our old pipes. He caused more problems than he fixed. I'm not sure how the job would have gone had my husband not been supervising this guy closely. (My husband's father was a general contractor, and my husband has considerable experience with remodels.) AKB fired the original plumbing guy and sent a different person out, fixed the problems, and even threw in painting of one of the bathrooms for free to make up for the aggravation. And, despite the problems, they still finished the job on time. The price was high, but you get what you pay for. I'd definitely recommend them, and would use them again.
Description of Work: AKB did the majority of the work on our two bathroom remodels, including new copper piping plus repairs to the walls after pipe was installed, cultured marble shower surrounds and vanity tops, new vanities, a new bathtub and reinstallation of our existing toilets.

We had interviewed a couple of contractors and AK&B provided timely and very thorough quotes. We needed the work done quickly and, on top of that, did not have a clear idea of what we wanted. Tim and Dave did a great job helping us through the process and were very patient with us. The quality of the work was quite good and the individuals who worked on the project were friendly, professional and conscientious. The pricing ended up being a bit more than we planned for but that was primarily due to "add ons" we requested after the job started. I would definitely hire them again.
Description of Work: AK&B performed extensive remodeling on two of our bathrooms as well as a laundry room. Work included retiling, like for like changes of shower, installation of vanity, toilets, fixtures and adding in ventilation.

I had saved for years to remodel my master bathroom and was anxious to get the job done, but because I'm a remodeling neophyte I wanted a company that would guide me through the process. I called many well-reviewed contractors I found through Angie's List, but Michele Crawford, AKB's rep and fabulous in-house designer, was the only person who took the time to do precise measurements, talk with me about my design plan and must-haves, and even look at our electrical panel to see if we had available circuits for the heating & new lighting elements I wanted. Once I decided to go with AKB, Michele helped me shop for my tile, flooring, and vanity/cabintery, which was wonderfully helpful because I was overwhelmed by all the choices and needed a guiding hand. Once our job started in mid-February, Dave, the on-site project manager, became my regular contact and he was also terrific, explaining to me most days exactly what was going to happen that day/week & promptly answering all my questions and concerns; I literally got instant responses from both Michele and Dave whenever I had a question. Every workman on our job was a professional who arrived on time and took pride in his work: Mike (tile), Bing (wet mop for shower), Brian (sheet rock and texture for walls), the electricians, and most especially Ron, who did all the demolition, sub-floor repairs, plumbing, framing, some painting, and all installation of fixtures. Ron spoke to me regularly, double-checked measurements, and always made sure I o.k'd the plans. Start to finish was 4 weeks, about a week longer than originally estimated, so very close to schedule. There was only one day where a conflict resulted in no work done. We had few surprises with our job and were always told in advance how much any change orders would be. I found those costs reasonable and fair. I had hoped to spend less money on this project as my bathroom is small, and I had actually received lower estimates from other contractors (some kept calling to pester me & even asked who I'd hired) but I knew from my first meeting with Michele that these were the folks I should hire. I don't like to micro-manage; I prefer hiring people who know what they're doing, listening to their advice, making choices, and then getting out of their way. Working with competent & skilled professionals is well worth any extra cost, and I couldn't be happier with the result as my bathroom is gorgeous. I will be hiring AKB again in 2 or 3 years to remodel my second bathroom, no doubt.

I initially met with the owner, Johans, to discuss a complete kitchen remodel. The meeting went very well. Johans listened to my requests and concerns, took measurements and pictures of my existing kitchen. Within a couple of days, he provided me with a rough design and a quote. (Note: we also received 2 other bids; one was from a reputable contractor that we liked but his price was significantly higher; the other company gave us a comparable price but we felt like we were dealing with a used car salesman and did not feel confident in him at all.) Once we made the decision to go with AKB, we met with designer Fred and he worked with us to provide a final design that incorporated everything we requested. Our choice of cabinetry was ordered and work was not scheduled to begin until all materials were in. This ensured that work could proceed from start to finish efficiently without having to wait for materials and therefore minimize duration of the remodel and inconvenience to us, the homeowner, which was much appreciated! Complete kitchen remodel from start to finish took exactly 4 weeks! On the first day work began, we met with Dave who essentially ran the entire job on-site. He was very knowledgeable and professional. He communicated with us so we would know exactly what to expect from day to day as work progressed. He was always available to answer any questions or concerns and troubleshoot any issues that came up along the way. Dave was on the job nearly every day, scheduled the workers from day one, and I was extremely impressed with how organized and efficiently he managed our job. Workers were here every day from around 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and we did not have one down day where things weren?t moving forward. Every day was a full and busy work day. Very impressive! You always hear the horror stories of contractors that accept a job and get started on it and then disappear for days or weeks at a time. Not with this company. I truly felt that I had their collective undivided attention from start to finish. The kitchen remodel started with demo of existing cabinets, small center island, and existing hardwood flooring. They removed a small non-load bearing wall and did some minor frame work. In our new design, appliances were relocated which required additional plumbing and electrical work. Recessed lights were also added. Wallboard was installed, textured to match existing, then primed and painted. New cabinets were installed with granite countertops and granite backsplash. We purchased professional line appliances and AKB installed them. Porcelain tile flooring was also laid on the diagonal in the new kitchen and the foyer. I wanted a stainless steel backsplash behind the new 48? gas cooktop, but could not find anything that I liked. So, I worked with Dave and he found a way to custom design what I wanted and made it happen! I am thrilled with the finished product! Although we initially contacted AKB for a kitchen remodel, we ended up adding more work as we went along. We had some concerns about a small intermittent water leak that we had above the kitchen, from the second floor balcony. We decided to have the balcony tile pulled up and the existing sliding glass door replaced so that they could hot mop and lay new tile to ensure that the balcony would be water tight and we would not have to worry about any further leaks. They also replaced the support posts which were rotting, and added a new wooden railing. New stucco was added around the door and on the balcony walls, which was matched perfectly with the existing stucco. AKB installed an exterior door from the family room to the patio, an exterior man door and metal security door on the garage. They installed recessed lighting in the family room and replaced a hinged door between the family room and laundry room with a pocket door. In doing this work, walls had to be retextured, primed and painted. They installed custom wood and glass barn doors in the entry from the foyer to the living room. I also have to comment on the workers that were in my home throughout this remodel. Each and every person who worked here was polite, friendly, hard-working and most respectful of me and my home. I believe they all take great pride in the work they do, whether it be demo and cleanup, plumbing, electrical that you don?t always see, or the finishing touches that you do see. Several of them said they believe in treating my home as if it were their own when it comes to the work they do, and it showed. Believe me? I know. I work from home so these guys also had to put up with me hovering over their shoulders and asking questions and watching what they were doing! Not because I didn?t trust them, but because I was curious and excited about the work that was being done and didn?t want to miss anything! I could not be happier with the end result of all the work that AKB did in my home. This includes not only the finished product, but the entire process as well. I absolutely love my new kitchen! I would highly recommend AKB to anyone who is considering a kitchen or bathroom remodel. I have already recommended them to several people and I will definitely call them when I am ready to remodel my bathrooms. Just a side note ? I found AKB using Angie?s List and I am not related to, nor was I friends with anyone who works there. My review is honest and sincere based solely on my first-hand experience with this company.
