The furnace is working but I will not use them again because they charged me two times for a service call AND they were to expensive for the small repair they did.

Very good customer service. Received prompt calls to schedule, notify when techs were on the way, and follow up after service. Quality seemed to be very good. Techs were very friendly and helpful. Only issue was cleanup after duct cleaning was not that good. Needed to vacuum material from a few rooms after service was complete.

I thought the technician was very knowledgable and professional, until it came time to pay the bill. He told me my ducts needed to be cleaned and proceeded to offer me discounts and special services if I paid for it right then and there. It was a substantial cost and I was totally taken aback by having to pay for it now to get a better price. If I have been a customer for 30 years, I should get the best price anyday, right? I told him I would only pay for today. It left such a sour taste in my mouth that I called another company to do the duct cleaning. Imagine my surprise when they told me they had never seen a cleaner system and didn't want to take my money for cleaning the ducts when they didn't need it! I should also note that their cost was about half what AAA wanted to charge me. Technicians had previously cleaned the interior of my furnace when doing a maintenance check up; this time AAA did not. He didn't clean the filters, didn't dust off the interior components. Wanted to charge me extra for that when the duct cleaning was performed. I will never use AAA again.
Description of Work: I have used AAA Furnace & Air for years. I was always happy with their service. I scheduled a maintenance check up for my two heaters on October 7.

AAA's service person came promptly at the time scheduled. He knew his job very well. He cleaned up after himself. Work was completed in about an hour. He offered to check my furnace and after 2 cell phone camera shots has convinced me to make another appointment and have my furnace cleaned and serviced. Work cost was as advertised - no surprises.

After they did the service, they wanted to charge me $120.00. I was under the impression it was $84.00, since this was the deal that was on Angie's List. I had also called to confirm the the price with a lady at AAA Furnace & Air Conditioning Co when I made my appointment. They should have informed me that I had to pre-paid for this service through Angie's List or the price would be more. If I would have known that, I would have purchased the deal on Angie's List to get the discounted rate.

AAA Furnace is the best company I've worked with since becoming a homeowner! They were able to schedule someone to come out to give a quote to replace an ancient furnace in the cottage in my backyard the next business day (the only provider that could). It was scheduled between 8 and 10, Byron called about quarter to 9 saying he would be there in fifteen minutes, and he did arrive on time. He gave me a couple of options, with pros and cons of both. After I decided which would be a better solution for me (the mini-split heat pump) he wrote out an estimate for parts, labor, and permit. He said take your time and think about it, completely understanding that this is a big decision with no high pressure sales tactics. I was thinking about when two days later the next tenant asked if she could move in in 1.5 weeks. I panicked and thought there is no way they can get this installed by then. So I texted Byron to ask if it was possible, and to my astonishment he replied seven minutes later "Can do. After my next appointment I'll call you back to verify." An hour or two later he called and asked if Monday morning 8 AM would work. I was still in disbelief that they could do it in essentially 3 business days. Sure enough about quarter to 8 that Monday morning someone from AAA called and said they were on their way and would be there in about fifteen minutes. Byron arrived with the installation crew of three guys at 8 AM. They wasted no time. They worked from the time they got there until the time they left (minus a lunch break) and finished by 4 PM. I still cannot believe it. The two indoor air handlers with the outdoor pump work great so far, my tenant loves it, and it has two year parts and labor warranty. Then comes the part that I wish I could give AAA Furnace an even higher rating than A because you just don't find people and companies like this. They had an issue pulling a permit on my cottage because one had never been issued for it before. Byron explained the situation and what I needed to do to get a permit issued. I went to the county and got the required documentation then went back to the city. They wouldn't help me unless they issued me a permit (I wanted AAA to do it, I didn't know what I was doing, but I got bullied by the jerk at the front desk of they city into getting the permit). So I got the permit issued, texted the picture to Byron he called back and said he wished he knew I was going because I didn't get the right permits. I explained that was the only way I could get the city to help me. He asked if he could pickup the permit, so he could get the correct permits. Since I needed to go back for another issue (big, big issues the previous homeowner had created) I suggested we go together. Byron met me at city hall to get the correct permits issued, but here was the best part. He stayed with me through the whole ordeal with the city, asking questions that I didn't think to ask. I can't thank him enough for what he did! I felt like without him there advocating for me as a homeowner, I would have been bullied by the city. I almost tear up when I think about how much Byron helped me that day! After I paid for it, Byron got copies of my receipts and had AAA issue me a check to reimburse me for the permit that the city bullied me into getting. I've since had the city inspector out, and everything was done perfectly. I can see the permits finalized. What a great company with great employees! Hire them. You will not regret it!!

The contractor was extremely busy. But once they were there and I was on their schedule, they committed to getting the job done, and the two guys came in and fully uninstalled my furnace in a timely fashion. Then, I requested that when the furnace was reinstalled, that they come back and put it up on a platform to avoid any components from being exposed to water if there was a leak on the floor for any reason. They put a platform up, and then fixed some leaking problems with the furnace itself that was happening. In addition, after the re-installation, certain components were not working right, and the guy came back, ordered specialty parts, and worked until he figured out the problem. I trust that if they do a job, they will make sure it gets done correctly. My biggest issue is that they were so busy, that it was very difficult to get called back on items or add services, but I guess that is because they do quality work.

From the bid to completion, things go well with AAA Furnace and Heating. I usually work with Jim Mcmann. The office is friendly, and will call you when they email the bid, and Gary, the scheduler, is able to answer questions, and get you scheduled. It's helpful to work with a larger company because AAA can do it all---install HVAC and water heater, plus handle all the electrical. The smaller HVAC companies often aren't able to install water heaters so would've had to coordinate a plumber and maybe an electrician, plus an air duct cleaning outfit. (I talked to 2 other companies where this would've been the case.) Installation went smoothly and finished ahead of schedule. This is the 2nd time I have worked with this company, and they always send out a professional team who have high standards and work cleanly. The crew made an effort to communicate and installed the furnaces, air conditioners, water heaters, and new drain lines for the AC condensate and the water pump drain. Panels and gas meters were labeled, and everything was picked up. The duct cleaning was amazing, too---could hear all kinds of stuff being suctioned out. They do comprehensive work and are competitive. It's a relief to work with this company. I wish I had known AAA earlier!
Description of Work: I needed to replace mechanical systems for two separate office suites. AAA Furnace & AC installed TWO separate, complete HVAC systems (4 ton AC, Furnace, that also included 2.5 gallon electric water heaters with dedicated electrical lines, plus drain lines. They also cleaned the air ducts.

Did some good basic troubleshooting, Looked for solutions not involving expensive repairs. Made significant progress, but finally concluded that the furnace required new gas valve (>$400). Installed one, resolved all problems. Spent ~1.5hours troubleshooting & fixing, would explain to me what he was trying, why, and what my long term options will be with this furnace. No hard sell, but let me know range of costs for various options. Spent much more than I expected, but by keeping me involved with the process, I am comfortable with the end cost. Very pleased with the service (especially making out the same day!)

They were on time and very professional. They explained everything they found and took extra steps to show me their findings. They were also very good about discussing what I should expect in the future and how best to prioritize any work that might need to be done. I found their pricing to be slightly higher than other providers offering a similar service, but with the extra inspections, their thoroughness, and the attention to small details, I feel it was worth it.
Description of Work: They inspected my furnace including all the working parts, the filter (which they replaced), and the inside/outside of the ducts. As a bonus, they also checked out my water heater and dryer vent which weren't part of the original agreement.

My parents are nearly 90 years old and wanted air conditioning added to their house. I was the contact person for all communication and I was at the house for all work performed. I contacted three different furnace air conditioning firms to get quotes. One company did not show for the scheduled estimate, a second company started changing the quoted price when we asked for more details, and the third company (AAA Furnace) arrived on time on September 5th, explained the options, and provided a quote. Overall the estimate experience went very well and we choose AAA furnace for the install. We contacted the company to schedule a date for installation and were able to pick a date (September 19th) convenient to us. On the scheduled date, three installers arrived around 8am. They asked where the air conditioning condenser would go, asked about the electrical panel, and I showed them the existing furnace. They needed access to the crawlspace under the house and put down tarp to protect the floors and carpet. They also needed access to the attic and there was tarp under the ladder as well. The installation completed around 6pm at which time they tested the system by turning the heat way up and then turning the AC way down. They cleaned up after themselves and left. Shortly after they left, we noticed a whirring noise coming from the intake vent when the AC was on. Since the install was on a Friday, we contacted the company on Monday to let them know about the noise. On Wednesday, they got back to us (they were closed that week on Monday and Tuesday) and scheduled a technician to come on Saturday morning (September 27th) between 8am and noon to take a look. On Saturday morning, around ~9:30am, I got a call from the technician saying he was in the area and was confirming we were home. He arrived about 5 minutes later. We turned on the AC and had him listen to the sound. He then opened the furnace, attached some wires to the control board and the sound was gone. Apparently the model has different fan speeds and it was set to HIGH which was causing the whirring noise. Changing that setting to MED-HIGH made the whirring sound go away. We then checked the heater and verified the fan speed HIGH vs. MED-HIGH fan speed noises were acceptable. Finally, the heater is in the garage near the door to the house. The gas and air conditioning lines were sticking out a bit and my parents have a tendency to grab them as they use the stairs to get into the house. I asked the technician what can be done and he said they could send someone out to move the lines closer to the furnace which would let us install a railing. A few days later, they came back, the lines were moved and everything is working great. Overall, very impressed with the company. While everyone always want perfect, sometimes stuff happens. What is really telling about AAA furnace was how quickly they sent someone out as well as how quickly they resolved our issues. I would definitely work with them again in the future.

The person who came out cleaned the unit, checked it and then proceeded to tell my renter that they were in danger from asbestos wrapping on the ducts under the house. She had just had a baby and was very upset. After talking to AAA and a few other companies about the matter, I scheduled a home inspection with an independent company. There was no dangerous material that was getting into the ducts as AAA has stated. I also had another inspection by a contractor who thoroughly checked the ducts and again found no sign of damage or leaking or any evidence that the insulation was even asbestos. This was very unprofessional of AAA to talk to the renter and not me, the owner who was paying them and also bad information. Very sad since I am a 2nd generation customer who had known the family personally.

I could not have asked for a better experience than I received from AAA Furnace. Like all providers, they educated me on the various furnace and air conditioning options that exist in the market. What set them apart is how they addressed a new code requirement for San Jose whereby the HVAC ducting in my home had to meet efficiency requirements. If you are in San Jose, you need to pay attention to this requirement when replacing your HVAC system. Basically, you can only have so much air flow leakage from your ducts and a separate contractor needs to conduct the test. I received three bids for this project. One bidder recommended replacing my entire ductwork for a cost of $6000. Another bidder had an add-on that I could purchase which seemed like a type of insurance. If the system didn't pass, they would come out and fix the problem if I had bought the add-on. If not, it would cost me a significant amount. AAA Furnace took a different approach where they first inspected my ducts and thought they were in good shape. They gave me advice that for my type of home, most air leakage occurred where the ducting connected to the register and recommended that I seal all of these. They also have their own testing machine and included a pre-test in the cost to make sure it could pass the first time. I felt they truly solved my problem at the lowest cost possible instead of using the situation to acquire a larger contract. They were also punctual, efficient in their work, and price competitive. I would highly recommend AAA Furnace.

We are a Real Estate Agency and Development firm. The first time I needed someone to check a furnace at one of the properties we manage I was having trouble finding a company that could come out in a timely manner. When I called AAA Furnace they were able to come out the next day. I have been using them ever since for all our needs. They have been prompt, professional and gone above and beyond to fit us in when we have had tight schedules. They have been honest with what we need and given us their opinion and the most cost effective options for our issues.

This was the reason that I joined Angie's List. This saga took over a year to unfold ... and now it's the reason that I'm leaving Angie's List ! I bought a new home and I felt that the A/C did not function properly (i.e. it seemed insufficient). I knew that the home had a new and expensive system, but it was not functioning properly. I knew that this company was not going to be the cheapest, but I felt that I was going to need truly professional help. It's a long story with many facets. The first visits were professional and at least in some ways helpful. They told me that the system is tuned to the size of the home, so I should not close vents to unused rooms or it would tax the fan as it tries to move air. They also indicated the the ductwork although high quality was not really laid out properly. They determined that the relatively new system is in fact 25% larger than necessary ... making me wonder even more why the unit seemed insufficient. Actually it would freeze up on hot days, since it would run continuously because the house was not being cooled. So they adjusted the freon. The first time they adjusted the freon they felt that it had been overfilled ... they guessed that this was probably to compensate for a leak somewhere ... so freon was removed from the system. The next time the weather turned warm the system performed no better or worse. So they came and added freon. There was also a pge power surge (?) that resulted in my thermostat going out. They replaced that and added a surge protector to protect the sensitive electronics in the system. This work was performed adequately, though not inexpensively. By this time the warm weather was ending and I went ahead and pre-paid ($159 ?) For a checkup the following year. When the time for that visit came the worker replaced the air filters and was about to leave. Having had the entire system not working properly for a full year now, I had only purchased the checkup to have the system checked ... was it leaking ? ... did it still seem to be tuned properly ? When I challenged him on that he did get the equipment and check the system ... but no adjustment was deemed necessary. The next warm weather the system still did not perform properly. Having spent an entire year with no resolution the manager was sympathetic and we agreed that the next warm weather that they would come out and examine and troubleshoot the system while it was not functioning properly. When that day came the technician managed to determine that there was an issue with the TXV (themal expansion valve) that regulates the consumption of the compressed freon ... and that this was a very common failure mode ! Then the unresponsiveness began. He didn't give me a quote, so I had to call. Then eventually he gave a quote for $1400. I did some research and this seemed even beyond the high end of appropriate, but he told me "because of my system ... " After some consideration I okayed the work. They were to order the parts and call me. But they never called. During this time the more I reflected the more uneasy I became. So I decided that I should get a second opinion ... even if it did cost ~$100 ... compared to the cost of the work that was planned this seemed prudent. So when the second company's technician came I told him the entire story ... I didn't want to start at day one again ! He verified that the TXV was the issue ... and made an appointment to fix it the following week for $425 ! So the work was done (by another provider !) and the system was fixed. And I didn't even have to cancel with AAA since they never called me back. So the summary is -- I could not use my system as intended for over a year -- I had countless phone calls and service calls attempting to reach resolution -- AND I estimate that it cost me about $1000 in excess electricity bills as the system ran endlessly while functioning ineffectively for over a year. -- with the only good news being that I avoided over-paying this company by another $1000 for the eventual repair !

I returned to my home on 11/15 after being gone for 10 days to no heat. I called AAA on Wednesday 11/26 and since it was Thanksgiving week I knew I would not get an appointment quickly. I was able to schedule an appointment for Saturday 11/29 but I I was called on Saturday morning and informed that the technician had car trouble and no one else was available but I would be their first appointment on Monday 12/1. The service technician arrived and was able to get the furnace started by tapping on a unit inside the furnace. He said it was an old unit (which I knew) and he wasn't sure if one or two parts that should be replaced would be available. I told him to check for replacement parts but also requested an estimate for a new furnace and a/c unit. He took my e-mail address and said he would contact me. After a week I was contacted by AAA but told them I had never heard from their technician about replacements parts or an estimate for a new system. She said he was still working on it. I never heard back so when I had a similar problem about 2 weeks later, I called a different company and within 4 days of calling them I had a new unit installed.
Description of Work: Was able to get my furnace started; but said it was a temporary fix. I was never contacted about replacement parts or an estimate for a new unit.
